Unable to open documents in InDesign CC

Have been using CC for over a year. Suddenly I am unable to open documents I created  InDesign CC (as recently as last week).
I updated O/S to Mavericks at the weekend.
This is a HUGE problem! Any ideas how to fix?

Please let me know if I can provide any more information.

  • Unable to open documents because of missing plug ins

I am unable to open documents in CS3 (version 5.04)
    I am getting a message:"Missing Plug Ins: Conditional Text.InDesignPlugIn, WorldReady.InDesignPlugin.
The document "xxxxx.indd" uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?"
If I click on OK I get another window, stating "Cannot Open File", a list of all kind of missing Plugins and the message "Cannot open "xxxxx.indd". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign.
I don't want to switch to CS4 and as far as I know version 5.04 of CS3 is the latest.
Any ideas of what I could do to get the latest PlugINs or anything else that would help?
    Thank you!
    Anne

Probably, but it's 100% not necessary when going from CS4 to CS3. It might be a case of 'half read, then half-understood'.
As this is a really frequent question and there are still no sticky posts: anyone up for a "feature request" that makes InDesign check the version number before opening? (Of course that wouldn't work backwards to CS3. Still, it'd avoid these kind of posts when CS6 comes out. Note: not CS5, because that would have no problems opening CS4, but CS4 would have problems with Cs5! Oh, for planning ahead ...  )

  • Unable to open document. Please check to see if you have read permission for the above file.

    System:
    Adobe Acrobat X Pro, 10.1.2
    Windows 7 Enterprise, 32-bit
    Quad Core badass CPU
    4GB RAM
    MS Word 2010 (Office 2010)
I installed the latest version as Administrator and am running as Administrator. I have all rights to all files on the PC.
When I attempt to create a PDF from any Word document, whether .DOC or .DOCX, I get an error window every time:
    "Unable to open document:"
    "[document location]"
"Please check to see if you have read permission for the above file."
This happens after the little notice pops up "Starting the application which created the document...."
If I open Word and create PDF from the ribbon, it works. It still won't allow me to create from Acrobat.
It creates PDFs from Excel files but not DOC files. I've searched for solutions but found none. I did find this from July of 2011:
"I have found out from Adobe technical support that this is a known issue with Office 2010 SP1 installed. This is an FYI for anyone else experiencing this issue, remove SP1 and it will work ok. They said an update to correct this issue will be coming within the next quarter."
I have updated to the latest version 10.1.2 and still have this problem.
This is a major issue, because it also fails on batch conversions, which is what I really need for the 100 or so documents that need to be PDFed. I'm not going to open each individual file and save each one from within Word.
This is a KNOWN ISSUE at Adobe, and if you look through the forums you'll find many people having this problem, and so far, I have not seen any solution.
If anyone has found the solution, please post it here.
    Thanks!
    B

I think I found a solution. It seems to be relatet to normal.dotm.
In our environment we have upgraded from XP & Office 2003 to Win7 and Office 2010. Normal.dot is stored on the users home share. When Office 2010 is started for the first time (for a user) it takes some of the old stuff from normal.dot and puts it in the new normal.dotm. When this happens, we get this error in Acrobat X.
The solution is to rename both normal.dot and notmal.dot to e.g. normal.dot.old and normal.dotm.old. Office/Word 2010 will then create a new, "clean" normal.dotm.
(By the way, if you are in a corporate environment, you might have changed the default path to normal.dot in Office group policies. You can see it here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\14.0\common\general\usertemplates)
I would be interested in knowing exactly why/what in normal.dotm caused this error. I can provide you (Adobe) with a faulty normal.dot(m), if you're interested.

  • Attachment list - Unable to open document

    Hi all,
I archive TIF image of Account Payable documents via the BAPI Archiv_Create_Synchron_Meta which create attachments to the SAP documents.
When I go to the transaction code FB03, I open one of my documents and, in "Attachment list", I find my archive in the attachments.
But, when I double-click on it, an error message appears and says: "UNABLE TO OPEN DOCUMENT".
BUT I have also tried to attach DOC, XLS, PDF and I CAN open it easily!
I have one entry for each doc type in transaction OAC0.
    What's the matter ?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Interface builder is unable to open documents of type iPad XIB

    Hi,
I got a application from my teammate, and it is for both iphone and ipad devices (which it is developed under iPhone SDK 3.2).
I have iPhone SDK 3.1.3 installed in my mac book. When i tried to compile the application for iphone simulator i got the following error.
Interface builder is unable to open documents of type iPad XIB.
The above error is for interface builder created for ipad.
My Question is we can't compile the application on iPhone SDK 3.1.3 which the application developed under iPhone SDK 3.2?
Please shed some light of this?
    thanks

Go to your project settings, and delete the line that says Interface Builder Plugin search path or something similar.
    the exact line in project.pbxproj is: IBC_PLUGIN_SEARCH_PATHS = "${PROJECT_DIR}/**";

  • I am unable to open documents

I recently got the new iPad and I have been unable to open documents.  I was previously able to on my old iPad.  Any suggestions?

What documents are you trying to open? You must have the appropriate apps installed on your new iPad. Do you have those apps installed?

  • Pages won't let me open a document, says "unable to open document"

Pages for my iPad 2 is preventing me from opening one specific file. I reaaally need that file back but I can't open it or transfer it anyway. Every time I click on it it says "unable to open document." Pleaaaase help!

Hey mate, do you already have iCloud enabled?  If not, then do as RickHanson-Sacto mentioned about and see how you go,
If iCloud was already enabled, then you've possibly run into the same issue I just had.  I opened up Pages & Numbers on my iPad, and all the icons were black.  Clicking on any of them gave me the 'Document can't be opened' message.  If I signed into iCloud.com, I wasn't able to download the documents either.
After a lot of messing around, it seems like it was something to do with file conflicts, and maybe they caused problems when I updated to iOS 5.1 or the new Pages/Numbers App updates?  I don't know, but somewhere along the line, the file conflicts were blocking all documents from being accessed.
The way I fixed it was to fire up Pages & Numbers on my iPhone.  It showed me my documents, but when I clicked on them, they told me there were conflicts in the files, and presented me with two options, one a black icon, the other a normal document icon.  I clicked on the normal one, and the document seemed to open and load. Additionally, with Numbers at least, the files all updated on the iPad too, and all the documents could now be downloaded via iCloud.com.  I had an issue with Pages on the iPad, in that it wasn't updating the documents as I was fixing them on the iPhone, so I simply uninstalled Pages on the iPad, and then re-installed.  Once iCloud was enabled, all the documents loaded up properly.
I really can't say if this is the same issue you are experiencing, but I figured I'd mention it.. just in case!!
And another tip.. until iCloud gets fixed-up good 'n proper, for your own piece of mind, whenever you edit a document in Pages/Numbers/Keynote, just before you finish-up, hit the 'wrench' icon, choose the 'Share and Print' option, and then click 'Save to iTunes'.  Choose the first file type, and it'll save a copy in a different location on your iPad.  That way, if a file gets corrupted by Pages or deleted/corrupted by iCloud, you can simply click the + button on the Documents page, and select 'Copy from iTunes'.  This will show you all the documents you saved. They also show up in iTunes should you want to pull them off the iPad quickly.
Sorry if this is no use to you, I hope you manage to get something back!

  • Unable to open documents in pages for iPad

I use iWork for work on a regular basis. All my documents are organized in folders. Some of my documents show inside their respective folders but I'm unable to open them. For example in one folder I have 12 documents raging from January thru December and I can see all of them, but when I click on December to open it doesn't do anything. Clicking on edit doesnt let me highlight it either. I can't delete it or open it. When logging in to iCloud the documents dont even show on there. Fortunetly I can recreate the damaged documents but I can't get rid of them. Anyone having the same issue who has successfully deleted these? Thanks

    Hi Ankit,
Thank you for your advice, but Im still having problems.
Back to the OP.  To avoid the threads getting confused, I suggest the other user starts a new one?
I have tried ensuring that PDFs are automatically opened by Adobe.  I used the path you suggested.  However, I'm still having the same problem.
When I went to do this, Adobe was listed in the "recommended" list of products with which to open PDF files.  However, I ignored this and followed your guidance.  Once I had done, nothing happened (i.e. Adobe icon was not added to the 'Other products' list below the 'Recommended').
To me, this speaks of either a bad installation or bad association in which something is causing Adobe not to recognise itself.
    What else can you advise?
Is there, for instance, a way to have a clean removal of Adobe, and then reinstall?  I don't even know if this will work.

  • Unable to edit documents in InDesign CS4

    Hello,
A work colleague has recently changed their laptop and installed CS4 - since the getting new computer he has been unable to edit documents (which are fine on my machine). He can select objects and reposition on the screen, but can't edit/delete. He can place the cursor and type new text, but can't edit existing text and is unable to move the cursor with the cursor keys.
The objects are not on the master page or locked.
Our Corporate IT has recently revoked all admin access to our own machines - could this affect InDesign? (No-one else seems to be effected)
We have tried uninstalling/reinstalling and deleting the prefs, but to to avail.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for the reply.
My colleague had CS4 installed on his previous machine and had been using it without problem for over a year - its only since receiving his new laptop that the issues have started.
Unfortunately, I don't think setting up a new user account is really an option (it requires assistance from our parent company's IT dept.).
Yes, we did follow the instructions in the link when replacing the prefs files.
    Regards,
    James

  • Unable to open downloaded applications - Indesign & Illustrator

Hi - I purchased a one year subscription for Indesign and Illustrator yesterday.   However, the entire suite downloaded after quite a few hours.  I am unable to open InDesign & Illustrator.   I keep getting an Adobe comment box saying something like - to renew your subscription with a link or the message try again in 15 minutes.   I had downloaded the updated Download Assistant.   This is very frustrating as I need to work on some files I had created previously when I took out a subscription a few months ago which expired due to an accounting issue.
    I would appreciate your assistance

  • Unable to open documents after scanning

I am unable to open my documents after scanning. I keep getting the message Adobe reader could not open because it is either not a supported file type or because the file is damaged, then it redirects me to a buya subcription Adobe reader XI. These documents are just regular standard 3 to 11 gray scale scans, nothing special. I just need my regulay Adobe reader to open A PDF file. Please help.

just to clarify, you're scanning a document and then you are saving that as a pdf file, correct?
in particular, you are not trying to add the scanned document to an already existing file (pdf or otherwise), correct?
if yes and yes and your reader and can that pdf ok, you have a scanner problem.  try updating your scanner's drivers.

  • I am unable to open documents in Photoshop CC. Do other people have this problem? Is this a bug?

I am getting the above messages when trying to open a document in Photoshop CC. My photoshop has the most recent update. I don't have a ton of stuff open in other programs. Usually this will happen after working with Photoshop for about 10-20 minutes. When I get these messages I have to close Photoshop and reopen it to open documents and start working again, only to have to do the same thing 10-20 minutes later when files don't open. Is anyone else having this problem? Please let me know if I can provide any more information.

  • Unable to open documents in Adobe Reader 9.4 - showing as not 'currently installed'?

    Hi,
This problem has been driving me crazy all day...
I installed the patch to opgrade Adobe Reader 9.3 into 9.4 this morning; as soon as I did I was unable to open PDFs, getting an error message along the lines of "you are not authorised to view this".  To try and resolve this, I uninstalled reader and installed it again directly from the Adobe website.
I'm now getting the following error:
"This action (i.e. opening the file) is only valid for products that are currently installed".
I uninstalled and reinstalled twice more, same issue.
I have tried repairing the installation in Adobe.  To clarify, I can't double click/right click open PDFs.  However, if I drop them onto the Adobe Desktop icon they open normally.  I am also unable to open PDFs which are attached to emails without dropping them on desktop, then dropping them on Adope icon.
I'm using 64 bit Windows 7, and it is my work desktop that is affected.
    Does anyone have any advice?
