Unable to open embedded Microsoft Excel 97-2003 worksheet in Microsoft Word 2013 docx document?

Below is the steps to reproduce this issue.
1. Open Microsoft Word 2013, create a blank Word document.
2. Insert Ole object of type Microsoft Excel 97-2003 worksheet or Microsoft Word 97-2003 document.
3. Save the document as Docx format and close the document. (Saving as Doc format works fine)
4. Open the saved Docx format in Microsoft Word 2013, now try opening the Ole object.
5. Error message is thrown as below image.

Hi,
This issue might be caused by the third-party software/add-in on your machine, interfering with the OLE process (the technical thing that lets you create/edit an object from an outside application inside Word).
Based on my tested with my local environment (Office 2013 & Windows8.1), if I enabled some Excel Com add-ins with Microsoft Excel 97-2003 worksheet, I would get the same error when I embedded it to Microsoft Word 2013 DOCX file. Then, I go to Excel>file>options>add-ins.
Then down the bottom select COM Add-ins from the drop down menu and hit go. Uncheck everything. After that, I could embedded the Microsoft Excel 97-2003 worksheet well.
Please try the suggestion and hope it's helpful.

  • Unable to save xls file from website in the "Microsoft Office Excel 97-2003 Worksheet" format. The browser is saving in unrecognized "File" Type

The version I am using is 3.6.11
The file is stored in the server in the format "Microsoft Office Excel 97-2003 Worksheet"
But when I download it, it gets saved in the unrecognized format type "File"
The servlet code written to download the file sets the content type to "application/vnd.ms-excel"
I am able to save the file in Microsoft Office Excel 97-2003 Worksheet format using Internet Explorer Browser without any issues.
But it does not work with the Mozilla Firefox. Any plug-in needed to make it work?

Did you try to add the .xls file extension yourself to those files?

  • Failed to export the report... to Microsoft Excel (97-2003) Data-only

I'm using Crystal Report version 12.1.0.892
I'm trying to export reports to 'Microsoft Excel (97-2003) Data-only' (an option I use all of the time), and am getting the message "Failed to export the report."
It only started this week.  I can export to "'Microsoft Excel (97-2003)" (and PDF, etc.) without incident, but it's not what I want.
I have not made any changes to Crystal Reports, but have applied updates to Microsoft Windows XP (ver 2002, SP 3).
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same error and have a subreport with 3 groups. The subreport data being returned is all in the Details section. All other sections of the sub are suppressed.
I can export the main report fine (it's just headers). I can also drill into the sub and export that fine, but of course get back only limited data. When I try to export the whole thing it chokes.
    Any thoughts?
    Many thanks for your help.

If your startup disk says it is full, you need to remove some of your stuff.
Either move some documents/movies/pictures to an external drive (if you want to keep them), or delete them from your startup drive. Then, empty the Trash.
If you move them to an external, you will still have to delete them from the internal drive.
That won't fix Office (I don't think), but it will make everything run better. You need a minimum of 10GB free (more would be better).
You might need to reinstall Office. It should work without problem (well, at least as little problem as Office can muster).

  • Microsoft Excel is not installed; install Microsoft Excel Viewer

When executing BW reports from the GUI, the following error is received.  Reports run directly from excel seem to work fine.
"Microsoft Excel is not installed; install Microsoft Excel Viewer"
This error is occuring on machines that were recently upgraded to SAP GUI 7.20 patch 7 and BW 3.5 patch 5.  In some cases  but not all, running a repair on Excel resolves the issue.  However, we do not want to have to run a repair on all machines that will be upgraded.    Does anyone no the root cause and an easier solution for this issue?

  • Excel 97-2003 Worksheet (.xls) Corrupted

Error Msg when opening "The file may be corrupted, located on a server that is not responding, or read-only.". Been through various google/yahoo searches but none of the given steps are able to resolve this issue. Software ExcelFix is able to recover
( view only mode) but asking for USD 160.
Is there any alternative cheaper way to recover ?
    Please help

    Hi,
Did this issue occur with the special file or every file? Would you like to tell us which steps/methods you have tried? Please see the following methods and test them if you have not used.
    1. Repair a corrupted workbook manually.
On the File tab, click Open.
In the Open dialog box, select the corrupted workbook that you want to open.
Click the arrow next to the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.
To recover as much of the workbook data as possible, click Repair.
    2. Open the file, cancel the error and convert it to the new (.xlsx) format
    3. Go to Control panel>all control panel items> default programs>set associations>set Current Default for extension 'xlsx' and 'xls' to 'Microsoft Excel'
    4. Modify the registry entries for launching Excel, it mgith be messed up.
    RegEdit > HKey_Classes_Root\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\edit\ddeexec should be
    [open("%1",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,0)]
    and
    RegEdit > HKey_Classes_Root\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\edit\command should be
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\EXCEL.EXE" /dde  (It applies to Office 2013 32bit)
    "C:\Program Files \Microsoft Office\Office15\EXCEL.EXE" /dde  (It applies to Office 2013 64bit)
Finally, if this issue still exists, I recommend we recover the data instead of recover the file, please follow the below link to do it:

  • Can't open Word 2007 (.docx) document on my Mac

I have Microsoft Office 2003 (which I purchased) on my Mac. I am unable to open a document that was emailed to me - it is a .docx file (Word 2007 on a PC). What is going on? Is there an update/download I need? I called Apple Support and they were totally stumped. What have those idiots at Microsoft done now? Are you telling me a document created in Word 2007 can't be opened in Word 2003? That is absurd. Is there even an update for Mac users who use Office 2003?

Please search the discussions before posting, as this question has been asked and answered many times already, and you could have answered your own question and saved you the time of waiting for a response.
Until Microsoft releases the file converters for Office 2004, you'll need to tell whoever saved the file to re-save it in an Office 2003 or older format.

  • Will Word 2016 have the option to save documents as the Word 97-2003 file format like Word 2013 does?

This is talking about if Word 2016 will have the option to save documents as the Word 97-2003 format like Word 2013 does or not.

    Hi Carolyn,
It sounds as though the filename extension association has become confused on your system. It's odd that it happened after conversion, but it should be easy to fix nonetheless.
Here are some instructions for changing file associations on both Mac OS and Windows:
Change File Associations in Mac OS X - OS X Daily
Change which programs Windows uses by default ... (Windows 7)
Change which programs Windows uses by default - Windows Help (Windows Vista)
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • DMS - Unable to open and Close Excel docs

    Since updating to SP3 :
    1. Excel documents, when opened, show as blank in Excel.
    Activity Log show as Opened
    2. Closing the Doc does not return doc to library
Activity Log shows nothing .... ie - the doc is still open
    3. I need to Reset the doc to do any further actions on the Doc
    4. After Checking out the Excel Doc, I opened it
Made no changes to the doc
    Closed it
GroupWise kicked up an E511 Error during the Close - Unable to REturn
    doc to Library
I wasn't in DMS mode while editing the doc !!

It's even worse than I thought
On a very rare occasion, opening the same problematic Excel doc works
But most of the time it does not
Per my previous post, this occurs on both T/S 2003 (with office 2003)
    and T/S 2008 R2 (with Office 2010)

  • Export to Microsoft excel 97-2003 issue

    Hi All,
I exported my report to excel. Up to some records it is fine But after some records i am getting more spaced rows then again it is coming normal .
Please help me what is the problem

    Hi,
If there is space between fields you have placed in report, then it will be considered as an additional object when exported to excel.
That may lead to extra space. Try making header and data field of same length if they are not already and then check it again.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to open Adobe Reader with ability to changes PDF to word

adobe reader with ability to change from pdf to word stopped working I purchased a new year and it does not work?

    John,
Glad to hear everything is working. I'm surprised, too, though, because these subscriptions are on auto-renewal when you subscribe (unless you cancel before the subscription runs out).
So....I just double-checked your account.  You had a CreatePDF basic subscription which expired on August 28 (I'm guessing that one wasn't on auto-renewal).
In any case, I think all is well now!

  • Adobe Reader 9 - Can't Open Embedded Excel Links

I currently have Adobe Reader 9.3.4 and Microsoft Office 2007 installed.  I am able to open a PDF document using the Adobe Reader software but I am unable to open embedded links to Excel documents.  I receive the message that the document you are attempting to open may contain macros, etc. do you want to Open.  I click on Open and than receive a message that Windows can't find the *.xls document.  This happens on both a Windows XP and Windows 7 platform.  I tested this same process on an Windows XP machine with an older version of Adobe Reader and the links worked fine.  Any suggestions to resolve this problem.

The application doesn't actually integrate with Adobe Reader, it just opens it by calling it with the command line and using the filename as a parameter. The application only checks if the Reader's window raised an error.

Start by deleting all of your microsoft preferences files in /Library/Preferences.
There is a Microsoft Preferences folder, AND a number of com.microsoft.xx plist files.
If you are running Lion, your Library folder in your home folder will be hidden. To unhide your Library folder, open terminal in your utilities folder and type:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
If that doesn't fix your problem, delete your Microsoft User Data folder in your documents folder.
