Unable to open files from within Photoshop

Hi, I've updated to CC 2014.2.1 and I'm continuing to get this message when I attempt to open a file from within Photoshop (it started when I installed a beta versionYosemite, so I switched back to Mavericks, but it didn't help, [so many updates with Cloud, I lose track..]).  I noticed someone else with a similar problem, but from 2013. Anyway, I get this message: 'Could not complete your request because of a program error.'  I restart Photoshop, then I can open a few files, but then the errors start over.
Also, I'm not really familiar with the 'forum' means of support, but if anyone knows a solution to this beyond 'google it', which I've done, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks Jeffery Tranberry—this did the trick. BUT while an answer to my issue gave the following feedback to Adobe....
Use of COVERFLOW if EXTREMELY IMPORTANT (in Photoshop) when working fast with hundreds of images. Who the heck labels every single image asset file—and knows what that is without a visual cue? WHEN IS THIS ON THE ROADMAP TO BE FIXED?????????? UGH! MAVERICKS has been coming for MONTHS. Why was this not vetted on Adobe's end as a valuable roadmap item for its users? I would have ranked this a high item from a user experience end and fought for inclusion on the developers roadmap. What is the ETA on a real fix concerning Mavericks & Coverflow use with Photoshop?

  • Timecapsule - opening files from within an application!!

    I have a time capsule... 500Mb
I have an airport extreme with external hard drive - 250 Mb.
Through Finder, I can place files on either of these drives and open them from Finder.
If I open Numbers, or Pages, then try to open any file on Timecapsule, it appears that there are no files
If I open Number, or Pages, then try to open any file on the Airport Extreme external disk - it works!
Simple question really.... why cannot I see or open any file from within an application that resides on Timecapsule?? It's driving me crazy!!!

File dialogs have the ability to "group" items, which prohibits you from changing sort options.  The group icon looks like six little squares.  Click on it and instead of grouping by date, group by "none" and then you can change sort orders.

  • Unable to open files from Finder

I just bought my Macbook Pro yesterday.  This is my first Mac so bear with me.  I bought and installed Office for Mac.  The problem is that I cannot open files directly from Finder or the folder stack on my Dock.  If I trt to open a Word or Excel file from there i get this message:
Microsoft Excel cannot be opened because of a problem.  Check with the developer to make sure Microsoft Excel works with this version of Mac OS X.  You may need to reinstall the application...............
I have already reinstalled the program (Now I have duplicate icons in Launcher).
The only way to open a file seems to be to open the program and then open the file from within the program.  I have already set the "Open With" preferences and this does not seem to help.  If Word/Excel is running, I can double click a file from the stack and it opens with no problem.
    Any ideas???

I fixed the problem.  Stupid me forgot to check for software updates when I installed Office.  Seems the most recent updates have fixed this problem.

OSX 10.8.2 - Column view - When I open a file from within Acrobat (9.5.4) the list of files is sorted chronologically (Today, Yesterday, Previous 7 Days etc.) Is there a way to turn this off. This started when I upgraded to OSZ 10.8.

  • Unable to open files from Dropbox

I am suddenly unable to open any files - InDesign documents, images, etc. that are stored within Dropbox.
This started happening after I bought a new laptop with Mavericks installed.
I do not have this issue with any of my Microsoft products, only Creative Cloud programs.
Is this a known issue. Is there any resolution for it?
    thanks
    Yvonne

Same problem here and this is really an absolute no go!
No problems before. I can save files from cc into Dropbox but cannot
place them into a InDesign document for example. They are simply not shown.
And it doesn't matter of PSD, JPG or any other file. I allways have to drag and drop
them from the finder into the InDesign document.

  • Mk:@MSITStore cannot open file from within RoboHelp

Have recently upgraded to RoboHelp 8 and now see the much discussed "Cannot open the file: mk:@MSITStore:<path>" error but only when trying to view .chm files from RoboHelp for Word, by clicking "View Primary Layout".  Weirdly enough, some projects display the .chm correctly when clicking "View Result" right after generating the help file, some projects do not.  Viewing .chm directly from output location is always fine.  For very small projects, the "View Primary Layout" button seems to work.  For very large projects, the error message always occurs.  I've un-registered and re-registered hhctrl.ocx as well as downloaded, replaced and registered the previous ocx version (4.73.8412.0) as well as re-registered itss.dll  The OS is Windows XP Professional with IE 7.  Suggestions please?  Thanks!

I recently ran into a problem viewing some pdfs and Word Documents in a generated html help file.
    Setup:
pdfs and .docs in baggage files
links to the baggage files created in tables
    2 tables in each topic
pdfs/docs in first table in each topic opened without a problem
pdfs/docs in second table would not open -  address bar display:
    (Example)
    mk:@MSITStore:C:\EOCs\!SSL!\Microsoft_HTML_Help\BlueMedicare_EOCs.chm::/2012_EOCs/2012_WS_ Book.pdf
(Pause for much gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair, angst, frustration and thinking) but no pdf (or Word doc)
I can't change registry entries or any other computer settings.  No administrative rights.
Anyway, it couldn't be an outdated registry entry because within one project, some pdfs and docs displayed as expected and others didn't.
Checked to see what the differences were in the tables/cells that worked vs the ones that didn't.
Looking at the HTML,  I found "target=_blank" in each row of the tables that failed to display a baggage file.
I replaced "target=_blank" with no replacement text -  I left Replace with blank.
Voila!  All pdfs and docs open just as expected.
    I hope this helps someone.

  • Numbers 3.5 unable to open files from '08

I just home with my new computer and it has Numbers 3.5.  I had Numbers '08 on my old computer.  I am unable to open my files on the new computer.  An Apple Care person told me that I need order iWorks '09 from Amazon or Ebay, wait for it to arrive in the mail, install, open every single file and save in '09 version and then REPEAT this with the 3.5 version of Numbers.  Any other way around this??? That will take days!

No, unfortunately that's the only workaround. You can't open them directly.
These are documents you've had but not opened in 5 years? Maybe they should just go to the trash

Have you logged-on to the new account that was created by the Migration app for the Windoze files?  That user should have normal access to them.

  • Simply cannot open file from within Illustrator CS3

When working in CS3 in 10.5.8 I go to open file and select a document nothing happens. It is as if I did not attempt the command. This just began happening about a week ago. I've been on CS3 for over 2 years. In order to open each file - I must locate the file in its folder and double click on it to open the file. However going to open recent files does work. I have tried re-launching Illustrator by holding down the Shif/Option/Cmmd to refresh the prefs but that did not work. Any ideas? thanks.

Good job on your troubleshooting so far. Answer could be in the OS rather than within Illustrator. Try running Applications>> Utilities >> Disk Utility and fixing the permissions.
Mike has the probably cause of this if repairing the permissions with the disk utility does not work do not give up on this procedure.
You can do it manually in case the disk utility over looks this folder.
Control or right click on the folder where these files are and then go to get info and where it says Ownership and Permissions  check to see if all the users listed have permission to use the contents of the folder, it will say read/write.
This can also be true for specific files and for directors higher up like folder for a client that contains these other folders,or partition of a drive which contains the folders and parent folders as well as for an entire hard drive so you have to check the entire hierarchy on occasion. If it is a foder or higher directory there is the option oncce you set the permissionfor the directory to have it apply to all files and directories contained within.
Mike's advice and the folder are fine then it might be a corrupt settings folder. So you can try this as well.
    1. Quit Illustrator.
2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe illustrator CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.

  • Unable to open files from 3rd party websites/applications

    Hi all,
My new macbook arrived with QT 7.0.4, I used it perfectly for a week with no problem, but now after carrying out a 'software upgrade' via system preferences to QT 7.1.1 I now find that Quicktime will not open hardly anything!!!! Not bad considering Apples information at the download window states that 7.1.1 was implemented to fix bugs that prevented QT from opening files in 3rd party applications. Whats going on?.......
In the mean time I've had to carry out a system reboot to go back to QT 7.0.4 and now its back to how it should be. What version of Quicktime 7 am I going to have to wait for before this issue if rectified?
    Cheers
    Smarteee

    Thanks all

  • Still unable to open files (from My Pictures) in PSE 11.

Have tried several things including going right into C./Program Files etc, etc.( found I could not find Security to check on read/write possible problem) but still cannot access PSE 11 directly  from My Pictures when I highlight a picture/go to File/Open With/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 and the file will not open. Error reads not valid Win32 application. All fine when I go from PSE /Open/ etc... But, I want to be able to access from My Pictures.
Not sure about going to default...Once again, please advise. I have looked through various sites and find others seem to have similar issue.

So, according to Apple Support, this was verified and determined as normal operation for 10.5.x. How lame.

  • Suddenly unable to delete files from within the Dock

I got my iMac about 2 months ago, and I'm pretty sure I was always able to drag a file (or folder) from, say, the Downloads stack directly to the Trash without having to open Downloads in Finder.
For some reason it doesn't work any more, and I have to resort to opening the Downloads folder every time I want to delete a file. Has anyone else encountered this issue? And more importantly, does anyone know how to fix it?
EDIT: Never mind! A restart fixed the problem. Thread can be locked/removed.

  • Unable to open files from web on Sharepoint 2013

I have a user who is having an issue opening any files on sharepoint site. I have checked technet for possible solutions and this is what has been done so far:
Environment: VDI using Xendesktop with Windows 7 Enterprise, Office 2013.
    1. Ran repair on Office 2013 professional plus (32-bit)
    2. Uninstalled and re-installed office.
    3. Cleared the cache from Skydrive/ Office document upload center.
    4. Tried to reproduce issue on another thin client with a different user logging in and accessing the same file...no issue.
User can download the file and upload the file with no issue just cannot open it online in webapps using IE9.
The OS is a 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise and he has used IE9 32 bit and 64 bit with same issue.
Permissions were verified to the file as well.

what error user getting? did you try to different user on the same machine or same user on different machine?
did you see any error in ULS logs?

  • Unable to open CS3 Files from within the application

    Good Afternoon
I work as IT Support for company looking after 10 ADOBE Creative Suite 3 end-users.
One of my colleagues is unable to open Illustrator or Photoshop files from within their respective applications, but she is able to open them from outside ok.
I have reinstalled ADOBE CS3 and this appeared to resolve the issue, only for it to return again a day later.
She has no other applications or processes running during her attempt to open a file from within CS3.
She will click on Open and the 'Open File' window will flash up for a split second, then the whole application will be frozen. It is as if the 'Open File' window is there, but isnt there because we cant click on it, but the application thinks it is displaying and so she can not click on anything else. The only way to close the application is to end the process under Task Manager.
While I am sitting here tearing what little amount of hair I have on my head, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Is this a Windows problem or an ADOBE problem do you think?
I look forward to any replies.
    Thank you

    Hi Bob
    Ok...
Opened illustrator but was unable to open the 'Open File' window.
Changed the screen resolution, it suddenly worked!
Changed the screen resolution back to as it was before, it also worked.
What could cause this do you think?
By simply changing the screen resolution and back again, the 'Open File' window displayed itself.
    Very bizarre!

  • Opening files through mini bridge, from within photoshop.

When opening files/images from within photoshop use adobe mini bridge, the files open slowly with a long delay?
Can't figure out why, but when files are open directly from photoshop it is lightning fast.
Running on a iMac OS X Yosemite
    Version 10.10.2

Okay.. Yeah, that's why I'm running Windows 7 still
This may have to do with some of the bugs Apple introduced into Yosemite. They are working on a fix. Can't really think of much else, other than make sure everything is up to date. Maybe someone with more knowledge of Mini Bridge will find this post.
