Unable to open Finder window from Safari download list

I have just noticed today that I cannot click the magnifying glass in the download list in Safari to open the Finder window with the location of the download.
I have tried deleting the PLIST file as well as reinstall Safari - still can't get it to work.
Anyone have some ideas?

If you are referring to the com.apple.Safari.plist try something different.
Quit Safari.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy/paste:  ~/Library/Safari
Click Go then move the Downloads.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari to test.

i am an e7 user. I was recently downloading a couple of videos at the same time when my phone hanged and had to be restarted. When it did restart, most of the files had to be redownloaded. All except one. The downloads list claims that the file has been saved. The video plays bt isnt completely downloaded.
The problem now is that i cant delete the video through the file manager. The error msg says web:already in use.. When i tried deleting the file from the downloads list of the web browser, there was a similar msg.
So how do i remove this file from my phone??
I tried downloading a couple of file managing softwares bt that didnt really help....
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Retry after clearing the Browser Cache.. If that does not solve.. Reboot the phone and try again...

  • Can't open finder window from dock

I have pinned my Applications folder to the dock, and when I click on it it automatically comes up as a grid. When I click and hold the folder it gives me four view options: Automatic (selected), List, Grid, Fan. I do not want any of these - all I want is for it to open in a finder window when I click on it. I am pretty sure I used to be able to do this in 10.1, why can I not do it in 10.5?

There is a trick to doing this -
In Finder, right click Applications and create an alias.
Drag the Alias into the dock.
That should do what you are looking to do.

  • Drag File From Safari Download Window to Other Volume - Moves not Copies File - Bug or Feature ?

    Hi,
Appreciate comment on what I thought was unusual Mac OS behavior.  Running Safari 5.1.5, OS 10.6.8.
Mac OSs in my experience copy a file when it is dragged and dropped to another volume/drive. (Let's leave classic desktop out of this.)
It may be the first time I've ever done it in any version of Safari, but just dragged a file directly from the Safari Downloads panel onto another drive's icon - and it appeared to "move" the file from its original download destination to the other drive and not simply copy it onto the other drive.
Didn't look like a copy and standard Finder delete since I didn't see file in the trash, although it was gone from the finder window for the download folder (Desktop in my prefs), and afterwards Safari Download Window magnifying glass icon "can’t show the file “filename” in the Finder because “filename” has moved since you downloaded it." It's reproducible.
Assuming it's not unique to my configuration, is this a bug or "feature" ?
    Thanks.

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the General tab.
You can deselect: Open "safe" files after downloading.

I am trying to open PDF files from safari, but when I click on them they open in a separate window and the information is encrypted. Any ideas on how to get them to open them in Adobe? Any help please!

The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :
    605124.pdf.html
    Change the extension to .pdf
And it opens and works perfectly, I just tested it:

  • Can I stop a Finder window from opening on a mounted volume?

I work in an elementary school. One of the startup items on our kindergarten computers is a shared network applications volume. I have set the Finder preferences to not show connected servers or the hard drive on the desktop. However, when the computer is turned on, even though that shared network applications volume doesn't appear on the desktop, a Finder window opens that shows the contents of that volume. Is there a way of preventing that Finder window from automatically opening? I could use Simple Finder, but there are things I don't like about Simple Finder based on what the kids need to do.
    Thanks!

I haven't tested this with AFP, but try launching "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and entering these commands:<pre>
defaults write com.apple.finder FXOpenWindowOnMount -bool false
osascript -e 'tell application "Finder" to quit</pre>
Then relaunch the "Finder" by clicking on its "Dock" icon so the changes take effect.
This also assumes the volume is being mounted by the account in question - you mentioned that the window opens after turning the computer on and the shared volume is a startup item, which makes the trigger a bit ambiguous...

  • Is there a way to view just one open Finder window (without any other Finder or other application windows coming into view) from a Desktop hot corner in Yosemite?

I just upgraded to Yosemite from Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro. Previously, I could view just one open Finder window by viewing the Desktop via a hot corner and then selecting Finder from the Dock. This would pull only the top Finder winder into view, without showing any other open Finder windows, and most importantly, any other open application windows. I could then easily drag files/folder from my Desktop into the Finder window (which I do A LOT). Since upgrading to Yosemite, whenever I use the Desktop hot corner and select Finder from the Dock, it pulls every open application and Finder window back into view, putting Finder in front.
Is there any way to view just one already open Finder window (or all Finder windows for that matter) without seeing all other open applications, without having to Hide the other applications or using Spaces?

Yes I've created an Automator Application that does the job, but the "watch me do" function that does the Mail Merge is a rather Clunkey work around, as the mouse moves all over the place, thats the part i want to remove and replace with a script, or work out a different way around it that avoids the "watch me do" function.
Is this Possible? or where/who is there i can ask to write me a script, im not a novice to scripting, but i am a novice to Applescript.

  • Safari 5.1.1 opens all windows from previous session

Since updating to Safari 5.1 (maybe 5.0 not sure) Whenever I begin a new session (open Safari from the closed state), it opens ALL the windows I had previously viewed in the previous session! Now, I can plainly see a "button" to do this trick in the History Menu (Open All Windows From Last Session), but I'm NOT clicking on that menu item. It happens exactly when I open Safari. I've looked everywhere for a preference or option to turn that "feature" off, but, Alas, I have not found anything to do so. Mind you, these are NOT windows I had open all at the same time in my previous session, just that I may have been searching for something and either had a bunch of windows open to compare items or used the little tiny red button in the upper left hand corner of the window to close that window and then sometime later, opened a new window with a different URL. Once, it opened so many windows that it ground the dual CPU's to a near halt. I had to shut it down with the power button because "Force Quit" wouldn't come up. This has really been agravating.
I'm desparate. Any ideas on how to fix this would be very appreciated.
    My equipment is: 24" iMac 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo / 4GB RAM / 750GB HD purchased in 2007 OS X Lion 10.7.2.

Thanks, that is much more descriptive then the discussions message above.
How To Disable Lion's 'Resume' Feature
Wednesday July 20, 2011 7:00 pm PDT by Jordan Golson
Resume is one of the main new features to OS X Lion, one taken directly from iOS:
Now apps you close will reopen right where you left off, so you never have to start from scratch again. And when you install software updates, you no longer need to save your work, close your apps, and spend valuable time setting everything up again. With Resume, you can restart your Mac and return to what you were doing — with all your apps in the places where you left them.
Now, this feature might be all well and good, but what if you want your Mac to behave like it did in Snow Leopard? Resume can be easily disabled, but the option is fairly hidden.
Head to System Preferences and select the General tab. At the bottom of that page is a checkbox labeled "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps." If you uncheck that, your apps will continue to behave as they did in Snow Leopard.
    Hat tip OS X Daily.

  • Can't open Finder windows or Preferences

I can't open Finder windows or Finder Preferences.
When I click on the Finder icon in the dock, use File>New Finder Window, the Go menu, or Finder>Preferences, nothing happens. I even tried opening a folder from Spotlight and "Open in Finder" from a stack but still nothing. I ran a cleaner (Cocktail) but no change. It's like having a virus. (Safari Autocomplete and Facebook login also stopped working about a day before I noticed this).
The only thing problematic that has happened recently was while I was on familyguyx.net, the page loaded without any trigger to one of those pop-ups that repeatedly appears until you reset your browser. Since then I haven't been on that site but these other issues have started.
    Any help is really appreciated!

Do you possibly have the Applescript menu or even some text processor in your dock?
If you have the Script menu, open the script editor from that menu and type this into the untitled window:
    tell application "Onyx"
    activate
    end tell
    Then run it.
If you don't, open a text editor-if you can-and type the same thing into it. Select all of the text and look for Services>Script Editor>Run As Applescript. That should run the above script and open Onyx. Services is under the Application Name menu.
If those don't work, let me know what you have in your dock, and maybe I can figure out another way.

  • How do you stop popups.  Every time I open a window in Safari another window opens up

    I have iOS 10.10.2, 2.3 Ghz Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 memory.
Just recently, every time I open a window in Safari, another window opens up with advertisements.

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

This could be a Launch Services issue. The following article describes how to manually reset Launch Services — the notes at the bottom of the article also provide information about the side effects of deleting each of the files involved:
    Resetting Launch Services
If you prefer using a cache cleaning utility instead of following the manual procedure described in the previous article, take a look at this other article for general troubleshooting and cache-cleaning procedures. Actually, you should also verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described there:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
The most appropriate utility for this particular problem probably is Tiger Cache Cleaner, but you may also want to consider other utilities, such as OnyX, or Cache Out X, which are free. Whatever utility you choose, be sure to read this first:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
As an example, this is how you should proceed with OnyX:
    1. Quit all applications.
    2. Launch OnyX and enter your administrator password.
    3. Go to Maintenance > Reset and check LaunchServices database.
    4. Un-check any other pre-checked options.
    5. Click the Execute button.
    6. Restart the computer.
BTW, if you’re running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), as your profile indicates, it would have been more appropriate to discuss this in the Mail & Address Book - Tiger forum. If the discussion applies to both Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, it doesn’t really matter, but it’s difficult to know that in advance.

  • Can't open any windows in Safari even after re-install

I can't open any windows in Safari, even after installing Snow Leopard, not even the "About Safari" info window. I'm using Firefox to get online. I can open the program itself, but can't do anything else. I'm suspicious that it may be a virus, because I'm getting some weird messages on restart, such as asking me if I want to use some wireless network I never heard of, and if I want to give somebody access to my Twitter account - very strange. My son was using a website when this happened.

    Greetings,
I'm suspicious that it may be a virus
Not possible, since there are no viruses for Mac OS X. You should ask your son what site he was one and whether or not he downloaded and installed anything. And you should turn off wireless networking and delete any networks that you didn't specifically setup. Use Ethernet to connect to your modem/router for Internet access.
Are you sure that Twitter is asking to give somebody access to your account, or just authorize them to follow your tweets? I've never seen Twitter do the former for anyone, ever.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Unable to open X windows display

    hi
I'm trying to transfer some very old PV-wave (visual numerics) routines into solaris 10 and I keep getting the following errors
WTINIT: Unable to open X windows display.
WwError: Unable to create top level shell.
Now I know I haven't given much info here but I have a feeling that its simply that I haven't set some paths properly. Where does one normally call the X windows display from.
    Much thanks
    Anna
    Sunblade 1000 running solaris 10.

    Hi
Are you logged in to the machine remotely or locally?
If locally, then you shouldn't need to change anything.
There are two things that normally control the X display: the DISPLAY environment variable and the X authority. DISPLAY is usually set to [hostname]:0.0 (unless you have more than one display or are using an X server that emulates mutliple displays).
For X authority, you can either use xhost, which is simple but poses security issues, or xauth, less simple but more secure. If you are safely behind a firewall, and you trust your colleagues, then "xhost + [hostname]" is the quickest solution.
