See:
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Unable to open firefox - get message that " a copy is already open and only one copy can be open at a time. I have dragged the app to the waste basket and downloaded another firefox app. However same result". I have a IMAC , V.10.6.3.
I get above message when I click on the firefox icon.

This worked, I used the method described in this link http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=365156, and opened the Mozilla profile screen with the terminal on my mac, using the language given in the links. Then I duplicated my original profile to save the bookmarks, etc. Put them in a folder listed Duplicate profile with the date. With the open profile screen, I deleted my original profile, created new profile folder and then a new profile. Note that profile cannot be created in the system library, it must be created on the disc, because the library will not allow writing into it. After I created my new profile folder, I dragged all my old information into it, and it worked. Firefox closed and the error disappeared. You must be VERY careful to make sure Firefox is closed anytime you are doing anything with the profile folders. I think that is what caused my original problem.

  • I restarted my Firefox this morning and it automatically updated to version 9.0.1. Since that update, I am unable to open Firefox - it is giving no response.

I restarted my Firefox this morning and it automatically updated to version 9.0.1. Since that update, I am unable to open Firefox. When I try to open it (and this is on a Mac), it does not respond and freezes with a white screen, the tab says "connecting...," and there are no bookmarks or anything showing on the browser. It does not respond at all - I cannot even click into the navigation to change any of the preferences. Please, someone help! Not having Firefox is killing me!

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Unable to open SYSTEM PROFILER

    Hi all,
I updated my software to 10.5.8.
Since then i'm unable to open system profiler.
    Tried using the:
    a) option button > then click system profiler
    b) spotlight
    c) apple logo > abt this mac>
    Please help.
    Many thanks in advance

    HI,
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.systemprofiler.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash then try to launch the System Profiler.
If that doesn't work you could perform an Archive & Install which would reinstall a new copy of the Mac OS X for you which would install the System Profiler app.
As with any installation, make sure and back up all important data first.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545
    Then repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Firefox will not open after fresh install in OSX Lion. "Firefox profile missing."

After recently upgrading OS X Snow leopard to OS X 10.7 Lion I downloaded and ran the Firefox installer package, only to find that Firefox could not open. The error message says "Profile missing – Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible"
I checked Firefox forums and found a script that when run in Terminal allows access to the (upper) Library folder; but this still does not solve the issue.
Obviously, with Lion Apple has deliberately placed a stumbling block in the way of would-be Firefox users.

Thank you. I solved the dilemma, which was one of my own making although I take no blame for it. You see, a while back I grew tired of going through the semantics of manually deleting Caches and Cookies and simply locked those folders (in Users/my name/Library) so that nothing could be added or removed from them without login credentials.
. . . There's where the fly got into the ointment. The Caches folder must be unlocked in order to run Firefox because it uses Caches to store files. Folder unlocked – problem solved.
It seems that OS X Lion has more warts than its predecessors (initially, at least), in that where Apple once gave the user full egress to all venues, it has developed a hard-nosed, up-in-your-face micro-managerial stance with Lion – such as making the System/Library invisible. This, of course, under the tacit label of "offering the user greater security" . . . against himself.
If you fully embrace that logic I've got some s. Florida realty I can dump I mean sell you on the cheap, lol.
    I appreciate your kind help.
    Thanks.

  • I trashed my mimetypes.rdf file to reset download actions, and now Firefox won't open because profile missing, please advise

Up until recently, when I would download a pdf file, it would automatically open, and recently, for some reason, it stopped opening automatically and just downloaded to my desktop where I wanted it. I found instructions on Mozilla if files downloaded but not displayed, that included displaying my profile folder and then deleting it. I trashed it (different from deleting?) and now if I try to open Firefox, I get the message that Firefox can't open/load because profile is missing. Please advise how I can get the profile folder back in.
    thanks

  • Firefox profile missing message when trying to open Firefox...so, how do I rebuild my Firefox Profile on an iMac? None of the existing responses/solutions work!

OSX Mavericks...After I download Firefox it will not open. Message box appears indicating my profile is missing or cannot be found. All existing solutions speak to 'Open Profile Manager'...there is no such program on a Mac. Mozilla expert/technician needed ASAP. Please explain in clear and plain language how I get Firefox back.

    # Click the Finder icon in the dock.
    # On the menu bar, click the ''Go'' menu, hold down the '''option''' or '''alt''' key and select ''Library''. A window will open containing your Library folder.
    # Open the "Application Support" folder, then open the "Firefox" folder.
    # Rename the ''profiles.ini'' file to ''profiles.ini-old''
    # The next time you start Firefox, it should start with a brand new profile. See the following article for directions on recovering data from your old profile.

  • I am unable to open firefox 4 properly without an error! HELP!

This is the message I now get everytime I try to open Firefox 4 broswer:
"Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features."
Now I have tried reinstalling it, disabling all the add-ons (including my Webroot), and scanning for every possible problem. I have 21 gig free space, so that's not it either. It does open and go to my home page, but it's jumbled and I can't do anything. Not even come to Mozilla's site. It just opens a tab and does nothing else.
I miss my Firefox already! Please does anyone know why this is happening and how I might fix it??

Okay I just updated the Graphics driver like it suggested in my system details part. No change.

  • FF won't open. Profile missing, but no profile.ini to delete

Firefox (running on Mac OS X 10.8) got stuck in the middle of an update. When I force quit it and then tried to restart, I got the profile missing error. I followed some help threads that said to delete profile.ini but no such file existed anywhere on my computer (I've done multiple Finder searches). Help?

  • A hardy ghost of Firefox is apparently running in my computer and I am unable to open Firefox, even after Window restarts and an uninstall/re-install. How do I find and fix this problem?

What happened first is Firefox was revving and using most of my CPU, ultimately "not responding" too easily and for too long, so I closed it in order to reopen it, but Firefox remained running in background (Task Mgr, Processes) after closing, continuing to use almost all my CPU, so I ended the process in Task Mgr.
When I went to re-open it, window opened and told me Firefox could not be opened because another "instance"(?) was still running, to close it or restart Windows. I couldn't close it because I already closed it AND ended the process, so I restarted Windows.
When I tried to open Firefox, I got the same pop-up. I think I restarted Windows one more time, and then uninstalled Firefox, except for my personal settings (in order to save the bookmarks, which I couldn't find in the Firefox folder in Program Files (only Favorites, which were not my bookmarks; I later wondered if they were part of the Firefox add-on "Add This" --??).
I then uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it. When I tried to start the newly re-installed program, I had the same pop-up telling me Firefox was already running and to close it or restart Windows.
I searched my computer folders for anything that might help, did a Search of the computer for "Firefox", and was given some Firefox folders and if they weren't from the new re-install, I deleted them. One thing I noticed was that the program folder did NOT have the program (Firefox.exe) icon to start Firefox.
I uninstalled Firefox and had to resort to using Internet Explorer, which I do NOT like. My rich library of bookmarks are who knows where.
I don't know if this is related, but in searching my computer's Administrative Services and Component Tools (and the like) hoping to find something that would help me fix Firefox, I inadvertently learned that "MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly. Name: .NET Framework 1.1 Config."
Please help me get Firefox back and figure out what is going on in my computer that led to this. I am a basic user and not techno-computer saavy, so if anyone can help me with this, please give me step-by-step bonehead instructions.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer!

  • After opening Firefox & getting my info, I go into another application but am unable to open Firefox without Quitting it first. I have the latest update of Firefox. How can I get back into firefox without quitting Firefox?

After opening Firefox, I was always able to in & out of it till I shut down my computer. Now, after opening Firefox, I go to another application then back to Firefox, I have to "Quit" Firefox and reopen. How can eliminate the back & forth of starting & quitting Firefox before I shutdown my computer?

uninstalled firefox ....deleted all files still remaining under mozilla firefox directory in program files ... to avoid having to reprogram all my settings, reisntall all addons as well .. I did not remove anything from mozilla firefox that is stored in either appdata or under the windows users directory (if any)
... the as suggested reinstalled the latest version of the firefox browser using the link you provided in the email ..; tested and several issues still remain present and unresolved ....
so please this is urgent or I will have to jump browsers and start using chrome .. because we work 14 hours a day 6 (sometimes 7) days a week, to get ready for the launch of our newest venture and we cannot lose that much days on browser related issues ... so please instead of putting me through week long step process .. of do this .. do that .. can you please actually look into the issue from your end .. I use firefox for so many, many years thta I deserve this kind of support .. thnx Robert
