Unable to open iphoto pictures in aperture
I've moved my files from a mac mini to a macbook pro using time machine. I previously had my iphoto pictures linked to aperture. Now in aperture, when I'm in faces I can see the faces for all of my photos, both iphoto and aperture. However, when I go to an iphoto event via aperture in the browser pane I can see outlines of the iphoto pictures and file names, but on the image its self. If I click on one of the images the picture does not come up and there is an icon that looks like a picture or folder with a red slash through it. When I go into iPhoto all of the pictures are there. So, it appears there is a linkage problem between Aperture and the iPhoto library. Does anyone know how I can restore getting to my iPhoto pictures from Aperture? I'm hesitant to reimport as I don't want to duplicate everything.
Thanks

Is this the badge you are referring to? That is telling you that the images referenced master is offline. You will need to try to reconnect the masters using File->Locate Referenced Files.
Take a look at the manual for this before going ahead with it. See Working with Referenced Images

How can I open iPhoto pictures in Aperture
I want to open my iphoto library which is on an external drive and stay in Aperture to process the photos.??
Is there any way you could update your iMac to MacOS X 10.7.5 or later and iPhoto 9.4.3?
Then you would have compatible versions and could do as TD has suggested - open your Aperture Library in iPhoto or vice versa. But with iPhoto 9.2.3 this will not be possible.
See: Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
The upgrade to iPhoto 9.4.3 will be worth it. WIth the unified library iPhoto introduced Master-Version pairs like Aperture and you can switch freely between the two applications. -
Unable to open iPhoto 9.4.1 after update
Hello,
Since I updated iPhoto on my computer (version: Mac OS X 10.7.5), I am unable to open iPhoto. It crashes each time I try.
The same happens with Aperture ...
In consequence, I can't access my pictures :-(
What should I do?
Thanks for your help.Terence,
I reinstalled the OS, it still crashes.
What else can I do?
Enclosed the first lines of the crash report.

I just replaced my hard drive and restored everything from Time machine. However, I am unable to open iphoto and the following message appears Your photo library was not found. Do you want to find your iPhoto Library?
Where do I find this library?
thanks
ShakTwas quite a hassle if I am honest which was eventually resolved but I don't feel qualified to help anyone through the process as it required a trip to my local apple store and a genius bar appointment.
Personally, I would do anything like moving pictures out of folders etc. Certainly not creating a new users. i don't think that is an elegant solution
Try the following which MAY just about rescue the situation for you but if they don't work you may have to do something more drastic.
(1) Holding down Cmd & Alt at the same time, start iPhoto by clicking on the iPhoto icon. From the resulting menu choose Rebuild photo library by selecting all available options given to you and then pressing REBUILD!
If that doesn't work
(2) Fire up Utilities. Go to migration assistant. Chose 'From another Time machine back-up'. Open the 'Users' option that comes up next and from there select Pictures, then uncheck everything else like Applications etc (you don't want to do a full migration of everything) and click go.
If that doesn't work, take a deep breath and this step is rather complicated but it worked for me. First of all close iPhoto! Then go to new Finder window.
From the Finder window choose Pictures, then iPhoto library, press CMD and the letter i. It brings up a new window. Go to Sharing & permissions. From there select the padlock to unlock settings. and then select User account, then press the 'cog' icon next to +/- abd choose Apply to enclosed items.
This may take a while. Once completed, re-open iPhoto.
And that should (I stress should) cure it.
Good luck. -
I am suddenly unable to open my pictures in Adobe Photoshop. It gives the following message: The document “Tina-19.jpg” could not be opened. Photoshop cannot open files in the “Adobe Photoshop JPEG file” format.
What does this mean? I have opened my photos in Adobe Photoshop for years and suddenly I get this message and can't open any of my picturesJoeLib wrote:

Unable to open iphoto after ver 11 upgrade
Unable to open iphoto after ver 11 upgrade.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I purchased a new BlackBerry Z30 recently from http://store.shopblackberry.com/store/bbrryus/en_US/pd/productID.298806900/categoryID.66826600/paren... and my Phone Model number is STL 100-5. I also purchased a Z30 Leather flip case manufactured by BlackBerry. I am using my BlackBerry Z30 along with the Z30 Leather flip case.
1) Within the first 2 weeks of receiving and using the new BB Z30 device, I noticed a problem of screen not responding some times. My phone has been freezed at the lock screen. My phone is not responding to any key except for the power button. So, I had an option of only restart/Turn Off my BlackBerry Z30 device. All the time whenever I had this problem, I have to restart my device in order to make it work properly again. I complained about this issue with BlackBerry Technical Support. They assisted me to reset the device to factory settings by taking a full backup. After reset also, I still had the same issue.
2) I am using Sandisk Extreme microSD card of 32GB with my BB Z30 device. Some times due to the restart option, all the data which I had on my microSD card is being erased and is filled with an unknown files.
3) I'm also unable to open some pictures which I have taken using BlackBerry Z30. As I observed, most of the pictures which I taken using Blackberry Z30 are unable to be open/view them after a few days. Still, I am able to observe the properties of those pictures. They are in JPEG format only.
4)Also If I create a Word Document on BlackBerry Z30 using Docs to Go Application and saved it. After closing that particular document and If I try to open it, the document file is not opening and projecting me an error of "This is not a valid .Doc file", but while I check the properties of that particular document it is in .doc format. I tried to transfer the file to my laptop using bluetooth. After a few seconds (approx 2-3 seconds) automatically the transferring is cancelled by the BlackBerry Z30 device. However, I tried to transfer the file within that short time using Bluetooth. While I tried to open it on my laptop using Microsoft Office 2013, the file is displaying with a squares of upto 4 pages while I had a content in it of 3 lines only. While I opened my file using Microsoft Office 2013, there is only squares available in that document.
5) My new BlackBerry Z30 is taking a long time of approximately 6-7 hours to charge the device from 10% to 100%
I request someone to help me with this issues. I would like to thank everyone who can help me with these issues in advance.
Solved!
Go to Solution. On 7th of Jan 2015 I made my device to factory reset. Also I removed microSD card from my device. As I observed for these 3 days, one time while I received a missed call, I tried to have a look at it. I observed that my screen has been freeze at the receiving call position and its not responding. I tried to close and reopened the display of my device with a flip case which I'm currently using for my device. At this time, after 3-4 swipes to unlock the device, again its back into working condition.
About Documents, I'm able to create, save and open the documents without any issues till now.
About Pictures, they are also working fine without any issues.
I also observed the charging time as approximately 3 hours for charging the device from 14% to 100%. -
Hi,
I am unable to open Iphoto, I get an error message that reads "you cant' open the application because it may be damaged or incomplete. Any thoughts?Hopefully you have a back-up just in case.
If you have TimeMachine just restore the iPhoto.app
You could also try holding the option-command keys down when you launch iphoto, See if you can repair this way to make it happy- if it is a database problem.
IPhoto is on your install DVD if you need to reinstall a fresh copy of the app. -
I am unable to open some pictures?
I am unable to open some pictures, all I see is a blue square with a ?.
If it worked before reset preferences. Start PS and immediately hold down ctrl/alt/shift keys (alt/option/shift on mac). If fast enough you will get a reset window.

where are my photos? just tried to access time capsule after my first back up and am unable to open iphoto to verify they were backed up.
You can't open your backups directly with apps.
But you can see some types of files in your backups. If you're still on Snow Leopard (or Lion with iPhoto '09 or earlier), see the gray box at the end of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #15.
If you're on Lion with iPhoto '11, you can use the Finder to see the iPhoto library, per the beginning of that same link. All you can see there is the library and size. -
I've just downloaded 'Aperture' and I'm still unable to open iPhoto?
Hi, I have just downloaded 'Aperture' at a cost of £55.00! as I was unable to open up 'iphoto'.
I now have Apeture latest version available, 3.5.1.
I have 'iphoto 9.5.1'
When I click on iphoto, I get this message:
To open this Aperture library in iPhoto, it first needs to be upgraded with Aperture 3.3 or later. Quit iPhoto and then open your library in Aperture to upgrade it.
When I click on Apeture, and try to use 'iphoto' I get the same message?
can anyone help please.
Cheers, Mike
My Old Macbook Pro
Software OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB
Memory 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duoo.k. Mike, the iPhoto application and the Aperture application are, fine, your external drive is fine.
When I click on iphoto, I get this message:
To open this Aperture library in iPhoto, it first needs to be upgraded with Aperture 3.3 or later. Quit iPhoto and then open your library in Aperture to upgrade it.
Your iPhoto library is not fine. Where is the library stored, that iPhoto is trying to open?
My photo's are both on my harddrive and my external harddrive. My external harddrive is has only iphoto pictures on it.
I thought this means, that your iPhoto library is on the external drive?
I do not have a problem with my external harddrive.
It is very rarely attached to my computer, and only used when I want to search for a particular place we have been to.
So, do you have a second iPhoto library on your internal drive? Do you get the above error message only when your external drive is not attached? -

I am having trouble opening my iPhoto library in Aperture now that it has been transferred to an external hard drive.
Versions being used:
MacBook Pro 13-inch mid-2010
OS X v. 10.9.1 Mavericks
Aperture v. 3.5.1
iPhoto v. 9.5.1
Order of events: got MacBook > took pictures > created an iPhoto library > upgraded to Mountain Loin > added more photos to iPhoto library > upgraded to Mavericks > purchased and downloaded Aperture > copied iPhoto library to a 750 GB WD My Passport.
When attempting to switch to this iPhoto library while using Aperture an error stating, “Unable to Switch to Library. Aperture cannot switch to the selected library because the file system of the library’s volume is not supported.” iPhoto can access this iPhoto library with no problem. What is missing? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.“Unable to Switch to Library. Aperture cannot switch to the selected library because the file system of the library’s volume is not supported.”
Aperture 3.5.1 is checking for file system compatibility, iPhoto not always.
copied iPhoto library to a 750 GB WD My Passport.
Check the filesystem on your WD drive. Did you remember to format the drive for MacOS, before you copied the library there? It needs to be formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled) to be used with any photo library. iPhoto may be able to open the library, if the filesystem is not supported, but you are risking data loss.
You can reformat the drive with Disk Utility, if the file system is wrong (after backing up your iPhoto library to a different drive). See:
iPhoto: Issues with FAT32-formatted drives
Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture

You see the File System in the Finder's "File > Get Info" panel, when you select the drive in the Finder and use "File > Get Info" from the main menu bar or press cmd-I. -
Unable to open iPhoto after upgrade to 9.1.3 (bought on apple store)
Hello all
I am unable to open my iPhoto after upgrading it with version 9.1.3 , bought in the apple store.
The searching icon never stops.
I trieded to synchro with my iPad (where I have a backup of all my pfoto's) but the system tells me that all photo's are still on my Mac.
Can someone help me out, because I am rather a rookie in this kind of things
regards
WaldoTry this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a new, test library. If you can then then your library is the culprit.
If that's the case make a temporary, duplicate copy of your library (Finder ➙ File ➙ Duplicate) and apply the three fixes in order as necessary.
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library /Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Image problems when importing modified Iphoto pictures to aperture 3
I seem to have a bit of strange problem with modified pictures after they are imported in A3.
I am using Iphoto 8.1.1 and have just bought Aperture 3. I decided to import all my iphoto pictures using the import iphoto library function.
I noticed that all images that had (in iphoto) been edited using the retouch function to reduce blemishes have problems in Aperture. The problem appears to be where the brush was used is now pixilated in that area and it just looks like a cluster of "noise". This only seems to happen when I used the import iphoto library. I tried to replicate the issue importing some of the same pictures individually and there was no issue. Than I made a new library tried to import iphoto library and same issue ones again. Exporting the picture out of aperture keeps this error. It's quite a worry as I have several hundred of these pictures and I am not sure what to do. Any suggestions?
Please have a look at the links below for an example of before and after import.

http://files.me.com/dan_801/s0zn6d (after importing into A3)ok quick update - I opened up the aperture library in finder and located the image. The master appears to be the correct image but in Aperture itself it's showing a different image. The picture in Aperture appears to be pointing to the preview directory within the library structure. I tried re building the review and thumb and same issue again. When I export from aperture it also seems to export the preview version as oppose to the master. How do i fix this issue
