Unable to open microsoft office

I am unable to open Microsoft office at all. I restored my system yesterday and it worked. shut down and logged on today the same issue. I show that an update was done last night so I am checking here first b/f I call microsoft.

How is this related to Firefox, or any Mozilla product?
It sounds like what you need to do is repair your Microsoft Office installation, then check Windows Update for any updates again.

  • Satellite A60-106: Unable to open Microsoft Office 2003

I have Satellite A60-106 laptop with windows XP home edition pre-installed. After recent failure of windows i have used product recovery DVD of toshiba. Following that I was successful in downloading other software like microsoft works, one note, Norton antivirus from CD. But Microsoft student and teacher edition 2003 CD is not opening in my CD/DVD drive.
It makes normal CD accessing noice after inserting, but not accessible. Pressing 'run' shows error message as D:\ not accessible, I/O device error.
The same CD (microsoft 2003) opens with other computers.
So where is the fault and how to rectify?
I have tried all sorts of advice through web.
Can some one please help me?

    Hi
For me it looks like a hardware fault. The error says that the drive is not able to read from the Microsoft CD.
There must be something wrong with the drive lens and therefore the lens cannot read the CD and the drive is not accessible!
Possibly after lens cleaning you could use this CD.

Orginally I downloaded OFFICE from the Apple Store App, so unable to reinstall as it suggest.

Which version of Office, 2004, 2008 or 2011
    and
MS Office is not available from the App Store, so where did you get it?

Many years ago synced iCal with Microsoft program. Since installing Lion whenever I try to create an event in iCal it flashes up message "Unable to open Microsoft sync services Power PC applications no longer supported." How do I get rid of message?

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services.  (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.)  If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature.  Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

  • Making iWork the default apps for opening Microsoft Office documents

Is there a way to make Pages, Numbers and Keynote the default apps for opening Microsoft Office documents, such that if I double-click a Word document it launches Pages and opens, etc.? I know I can do it by double-clicking the Office document and dragging it to the appropriate iWork app in the dock, but it would be nice to have it happen by default. That way I can put Office in my rearview mirror!

Fantastic - worked exactly as advertized. Thank you both!! Office is now a distant memory (except when I have to save in MS formats to send files to the unfortunate masses).

  • Problem opening  Microsoft Office & PDF Email attachments

Just got a Motorola Razr.  Having a problem opening Microsoft Office (e.g. Work, Excel) and PDF Email attachments.   Receive message "winmail.dat Unsupported file type".   Can open jpg files.  I have Quick Office, which is suppose to enable you to do this, but does not seem to make a difference.   Wonder if it is an Android 2.3.5 issue.  I used to have a Blackberry and this was not an issue.  This is a showstopper for me and I will return the phone if I can't read Microsoft Office and PDF files attached to emails.  My email server / client is Verizon.
    I would appreciate any recommendations.

Hope this is one of those "better late than never" scenarios.
The problem sounded familiar, and it's one that's been around for a long, long time.  I don't think it's a Razr problem, or a Droid problem, but it is about email clients.  I've had similar issues with email on computers.
The problem starts with Outlook's RTF format.  It saves the document's formatting info (bold, underline, etc.) and other info in the winmail.dat file, and some email clients simply can't decode it.
The sender can change the format of what they're sending, though, and I believe that the most recent versions of Outlook can change those format setttings on a person-by-person basis (don't want to start a rumor here because I could be wrong about that).
Just copy and paste the error message into Google (or your preferred search engine, and you'll see some info that might be helpful.

  • Unable to reinstall Microsoft Office 2008

The Genius Bar reinstalled my operating system (Mavericks).  I have been unable to reinstall Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.  It doesn't seem to even be able to read the CD.  Should I be able to install Microsoft Office 2008 or will I be forced to upgrade to 2011?

My experience with Microsoft Office on the Mac is that when reinstalling an operating system, Office asks you to resupply your authorization credentials.  As I recall, that is something like a twenty character code that identifes you as a legitimate purchaser.
Once your Mavericks was reinstalled, how did you recover whatever you had on your machine previously?  Was it still in place?  Did you recover it from a backup?  Did you attempt to run Microsoft Office from either the backup or where it had been before attempting the CD approach?

How can i open microsoft office word documents on my ipad 4 and edit it. How to transfer my scaned documents on it

There are a number of apps that are compatible with Office documents. Apple makes iOS versions of their own iWork apps (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) that are available free if you purchase a new iOS device and that can be purchased separately for older devices. There are also 3rd party combined suites that cost less than the separate Apple apps. Ones often recommended include Documents 2 Go,  Quickoffice and Office2 HD.
If you can accept needing a network connection whenever you want to use the apps and have an Office 365 subscription, Microsoft has just released their Office Mobile app, though it has significant limitations. Or a server-based solution such as CloudOn might be an option for you.
    Regards.

Use a product such as OpenOffice, LibreOffice, Google Docs, iWork, or Microsoft Office 2008 or newer. In the case of Word documents, you can also use TextEdit.

  • Opening microsoft office documents from link in flash site

I have created a flash site, (its an internal site so nobody
outside the network will be able to access it) and I have numerous
documents linked in it. The documents all reside on the same server
as the flash website. When I click on the link to open a microsoft
office file (I have .doc, .xls, and .ppt on there) IE gives this
    error:
    Action canceled
Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you
requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable. I have
tried adding the domain to trusted sites under tools->options,
but that doesn't seem to work. After I get the Action canceled
error, if i hit enter or click the Go button next to the address
line, it will then go on and open the file. There is some kind of
communication error I can't figure out. The odd thing is that .pdf
files are not affected. They opened just fine from the get-go. Only
Office files. Is there a line of actionscript that needs to be in
there? Or a setting in IE that I am not thinking of? PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thanks

ie has added security for activex controls... so you will
    need to look at
the security settings for your browser and relax them...
    either in popups
or/and in the advanced section of the tools menu...

  • Unable to send Microsoft Office documents as a attachment to an email

MacBook Pro Mac OS X 10.9.4
    Microsoft Office for Mac 2011
    MS Exchange mail server
When i am in Microsoft Office Word or Excel and trying to send the document as an email attachment
I get an error saying  “unable to mail please make sure your program is configured correctly and that you can send mail with it”.
The work around is to open Outlook and create an email with an attachment.  This works BUT I would like to be able to
send from within Office documents as well.
    Anyone have a suggested correction?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Based on my research, users who encountered the similar issue are able to fix this issue using one of the following method:
    1. Restarting Mac and holding the Shift key down as it booted to start the Mac in Safe Mode. Then restart Mac normally.
    2. Try to rebuild your Outlook 2011 database. You can do it with pressing the option key and opening your outlook and rebuild the database.
Since this forum is specific to the Office for Windows version, it's better to post your question the forum for Mac:

  • Unable to open all office files

I unable to open any ms office word and excel files, its showing files are corrupted.

    Hi,
Does it only happen to Word and Excel? What about other Office applications, like PowerPoint?
Please first try to launch Word and Excel in safe mode: Press Win + R and type "winword /safe" or "Excel /safe"in the blank box, then press
    Enter.
Click File->Open to open the file and check result, this will help to determine if any add-ins caused the issue.
You might want to repair your Office from Control Panel, the installation might be corrupted. For steps on how to do this, please check this article:

  • Sharepoint 2010 and Unable to Open MS Office Files

    Hello,
I have this annoying issue that I'm experiencing. My IE11 is unable to open *any* sharepoint files. I have to "download a copy", then "add document" in order for me to update files, pure annoyance.
This is just for one client.
Here's the stuff I've done so far
    Change a new PC
Remove Office 2013 OEM and Install Office 2010 Standard (cannot open file)
Remove Office 2010 Standard and Install Office 2013 (cannot open file)
    BasicAuthLevel registry (no go)
Disable all IE Plugins except Microsoft ones (no go)
    Use IE x86 (no go)
    Use IE10 (no go)
Use IE Tab on Firefox (no go)
Trust Center and Trust all Content (no go)
Delete Cache, reset Advanced Setting, "reset" (no go)
Uncheck "Autodetect" on LAN setting, then recheck (no go)
Add sharepoint to Trusted Sites (no go).
Use CCleaner to clean PC, then reinstall Office (no go)
Uninstall all other office product except 2013 Office. Remove Sharepoint component via Repair, then re-add (no go)
I've Binged and tested many solutions and unable to find it. I use fiddler to see what stuff is being passed back and forth.
The file is 100kb. If I use "download a copy", its downloaded right away. However, if I open with Sharepoint, it takes forever, then eventually give me this error (see attached).
Please advise. I've seen odd issue, but never this one where I cannot Bing it.

    Hi Samir,
For troubleshooting your issue, you can take steps as below:
1.Make sure you are using IE 32bit.
2.Go to Internet Options>Advanced tab, uncheck "Do not save encrypted files to disk".
    3.Delete the Office File Cache:http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/office-2010-fix-office-document-cache-error/
