Unable to open MPEG-4 video

I am uable to open a MPEG-4 video ON my I-mac Any Help would be appreciated

Any suggestions on these lines?
First, take Harm's, and then Jim's advice to heart. G-Spot will tell you all about these files.
Also, exploration of some of the other H.264 CODEC's might yield better results (look closely at Jim's comments first). Some find that Apple's works best, some like Lead's better and others have better results from MainConcept's H.264. Remember, look at Jim's comments, as AVCHD will be a different animal.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • I have iMovie '11, and I am unable to access mpeg HD video files that I want to edit.  The files are fine (I can open and watch them using VLC), but I cannot seem to import the files into iMovie. File Import does not work.  Any suggestions??

More detail: I have a bunch of mpeg HD video files that were shot on a SONY HDR-HC3 Handycam camcorder.  I would like to edit these into a single video production.  I can access and view the mpeg files using VLC (Quicktime does not work with them).  However, I seem to be unable to get the mpeg files to interface with iMovie '11 -- I cannot use the File --> Import command, nor can I drag-and-drop them into iMovie.
Is there something anyone might suggest to get this to work?  Or are these files incompatible with iMovie?  If so, I assume I must purchase a different video editing software program (e.g. Adobe Premeir Pro).  Suggestions???
Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration

Yes, I tried that.   The files were ordered by their original numbers as imported from the camera, but I batched them through Phocoshop to downsize all of them into a more manageable file size.   I opened that destination folder from quick time  from where it said select image sequence.   I clicked on the first one and opened it.   The result was a large image with an arrow indicating a movie was ready to go.   When I pressed the arrow, though, I realized it had only imported that one frame so there was no movie.   The files are Jpgs and are about 450 KB each.
To your knowledge are there any links to iMovie tutorials or quick time tutorials that may address this situation?  Maybe there will be one I haven't looked at yet.
        Thanks

  • Unable to open BBC news video

On the BBC website I try to open news clip videos but it informs me I do not have the latest adobe software.  I then download it but it still comes up with the comment 'unable to view as you do not have the latest version of adobe flash'.  I can view the ITN news clips, You Tube and MSN video clips.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi glspaobidos,
Please let me know what OS and browser are you using.

  • I have an album of 30 videos, and recently am unable to open those individual videos. Any ideas?

I have an album containing many videos and recently am unable to open those files.  I used to double-click and the video would start; now it shows the picture only. Any ideas??

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when you try to play a video in iPhoto?
can you play the video from outside of iPhoto with QT Player?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
Download and install QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later and try playing the videos again.

  • Can't see Thumbnail or open MPEG-2 videos with QT

Hello, I am new to MAC and not really a computer expert. I have transfered all my video mpg2 files on my new MAC (from a Sony DCR-SR85 which has a hard drive / i transfered the file to my computer as if it was an external drive). Thumbnails do not appear and i can't open with QT (no codec). I can open with VLC, but to check the file, rotate them, etc... i would like to see the thumbnails (so no need to open them 1 by 1). I looked at a few forums and responses seem very technical so i could not figure out what to do; i still have checked that:
    - I have OS 10.7.5 so reading MPG-2 should be possible ?
    - i have found in system / library / QT file (after struggling to find how to get there...) that i have indeed a file Apple MPG2 Codec component
    - i have also read it might be the Sony files are not exactly MPEG2 ?
My main aim is to locate the Video which need to rotated, so i can do the same with Image Browser from my Canon Camera.
Is there is an easy fix, that would be great. I there is a specific Software which could help, i may get it.
    Thanks for your help.
As it is the first time i try to post sth on internet, i am not even sure how i will see respone if any, but that will be the second step.
    Cheers
    Serge

Hello QuickTimeKirk, thanks for taking the time to reply to my query. I have just opened up one of the few video i can open with QT (.Avi) and i could check that the version of Quick Time i have is indeed 10.1, so it does not seem to be the issue. Opening of the files is not my worst concern, although it would be great to be able to open them. What bugs me is the fact that if i look in a certain subdirectory with a set of videos coming either from my Canon Ixus or from my wife Canon Ixus or from my Sony Camcorder (.AVI, .MOV or .Mpeg), either in Finder, Image Browser, or even Adobe Premiere, i can't even see the thumbnail of the mpeg2 file, so it is dificult to sort out. Any ideas ? Cheers. Serge

  • Premiere CS3 - unable to open MPEG-4 files

    Hi!
I have footage from 2 different cameras. Project involved combining these 2 for DVD as end destination. Half of the footage is in quicktime format and the other half is MPEG-4. I am unable to import the MPEG-4 files into Premiere - I get the error Unsupported format or damaged file. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Import MPEG-2 video into PhotoShop CS6

Does anyone know why I can not import MPEG-2 video file into PH CS 6?

    Hi there -
Do you have any other Adobe programs installed? Photoshop CS6 can only open MPEG-2 video files if a decoder is installed, such as Premiere Pro or After Effects.
See this Adobe Help article for more information about supported files types in Photoshop CS6: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/supported-file-formats-photoshop-cs6.html
EDIT: Here is an extremeley technical post about this issue - http://forums.adobe.com/message/4700873
If you have further issues with this topic, please post in the general Photoshop forum where experts will be able to give you much more specialized help.

  • How can I get my MPEG-2 video imported?

I just bought LR4 and intended to begin incorporating all of my video with my photos for a complete gallery.  I am unable to import mpeg-2 video.  I can import avi, but anything that is MPEG appears to be an issue.  Are there any codecs or plug-ins that will make these importable?

Are you saying you are trying to connect to the iPad via USB (probably via the Camera Connection Kit)?  If so, that doesn't work.  I don't think the Canon is an airprint printer, so your only other choice is to connect printer to computer via USB and download some application that routes airprint commands to the printer.  On the Mac, Printopia is one such application (there are others).  I don't know about PCs.

  • Unable to open video attachments in an email

I am unable to open video attachments in emails I receive !!

What is the file type for the video attachments?
    Copied from this link.
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format.
If the video attachments are Windows Media Video files (WMV files that include a .wmv file extension), WMV is a closed/proprietary Microsoft video format. Microsoft stopped providing and supporting a Windows Media Player version for the Mac and OS X many years ago. There is a 3rd party player that provides for this on a Mac and there is a 3rd party app that provides for this on the iPhone.
