Hi all,
Composing a slide show with occasional switches (import export) to ppt.
I have a recurrent bug on re-opening a keynote file.
I am working on a keynote presentation, saves it OK. At some point, it comes from powerpoint, and also I cut/paste graphics from an original Illustrator .ai file. The following problem occured to me 3 or 4 times, and I cannot diagnose if it comes from working with the ppt imported file (all seems to work fine after my initial ppt import), or after my adobe illustrator cut and paste. Cannot reproduce the bug on purpose, but it is recurrent.
The bug:
When I quit keynote and try to open again my .key file (worked fine up saving and so up to this time...):
I have the failure window (approx translation from French):
" Impossible to ope file XXX because it is not a valid keynote document ".
Any hint to a reported keynote I/O problem ?

Are you double clicking on a Zip file when you get this message? If so, you need to set your file associations so that the proper application opens them.

You may first want to look into Safari's "Installed Plugins" section within the browser. This is (usually) found under the Safari Help header in the top of a browser. I say usually, because I don't use Safari often and mine is an older version. They handle applications and plugins like most others, to a point.
I see in Safari Installed Plugins that mine would use

Acrobat Reader & reader plugin v9.5.5 for web browsers
(in Safari 5.x, where I looked into this)
While I use FireFox, SeaMonkey (Mozilla) and others, where I can choose in preferences the helper applications to open from the browser, Safari has different methods; so if you can change this in the preferences or settings of Safari in a later version I am not certain.
You could see what the defaults are by using Safari help menu to open the Installed plugins, and maybe find out what happend to Adobe reader plugin. Could be it was 'sandboxed' in a later OS X and needs to be installed differently to be accepted as safe.
It is easier to set how a file type is handled once it is inside the computer and not held in the browser; by file type in general or specific to each single document. I do both, and seldom let an a browser do these things due to security considerations. I download and open them, only then if I feel they are safe.
Sorry to not have a specific answer for that anomaly.

UNABLE TO OPEN FCP 6.02 PROJECT FILES AFTER INSTALLING LEOPARD!

**Unable to open FCP 6.02 project files after installing Leopard**. Tested and found that the files can be opened on another computer with OS 10.4.10, but not OS 10.5. Spoke to apple support many times, and have tried reinstalling FCP, but it didn't work.
Apple is now saying to erase my HD and reinstall from scratch. This presents a problem since i have software installed but no disc due to a move, (they are deep in offsite storage).
Anyone have this problem? Anyone know a fix?

There is a section in the manual on the migration tool... I don't have my machine fired up right now so can't direct you to the exact page. I think a search for migration or migrate should do it.
Two other things to try:
1. There have been numerous reports that Quicktime 7.3 is what is killing older projects. According to one of the third party program makers Apple re-wrote Quicktime changing the null value to Zero from minus-one. I'm not a code junkie so can't vouch for this but the upshot would be, go back to Quicktime 7.1 or 7.2 not 7.3
2. There is a Quicktime plugin called "Perian". For lots of people it has caused numerous problems.
Look for Perian on your machine and if you find it, drag the app to the trash... re boot and try again.
Of course the ultimate solution would be to reinstall Tiger, Final Cut Studio 2 and Quicktime 7.2. So far the most stable combined setup for me and lots of others on G5 machines.

Can you actually see that the attachment has a .jpg extension? Some mail systems strip it off (I've seen AOL do that) which makes the attachment difficult to open.

I cannot open my previous keynote'09 files in keynote'09!

I use Macbook pro (Early 2011, 22GHz i7, memory 8GB) and installed Maverick as soon as it was released.
I have used iWorks'09 since I have bought this mac, and had no problems so far, till I recently installed new version of iWorks.
Recognized that new iWorks are just trash, and relieved to hear that my iWorks'09 are still available,
I removed the new iWorks from my dock and now use the previous version of iWorks as I had.
The problem is, most of my previous presentations done by previous the version (iWorks'09) can be open without problem
but I cannot open some presentations which are nothing different from those can be open.
It says " You need a newer version of Keynote to open this presentation" everytime I try to open them.
I cannot understant why I need newer version of Keynote to open previous presentation,
because I am using iWorks'09 now. Plus, I don't want to use newer version of iWorks.
Do I need to install newer version of Keynote again nevertheless, to open these files?
Please help me if you have any idea!!

Keynote 6 uses a different file type to the previous version and they are not backwards compatible.
I removed the new iWorks from my dock and now use the previous version of iWorks as I had.
If you have not deleted Keynote 6 from the applications folder it is still installed on the Mac and can be used.
If you want to use your files created in 6, open them in Keynote 6 and save them as in the previous version.

Unable to open Canon 7D CR2 raw files in Photoshop CS6

Hi Folks,
I have been trying to open Canon 7D CR2 raw files in Photoshop CS6 (Extended) (Windows 8.1) but I'm always getting the error "Could not complete your request because the file format module cannot parse your file".
I installed the Camera Raw plugin ver 8.8.0.397 today. Did this initially by downloading and running the CameraRaw_8_8.zip available here Camera Raw plug-in installer. Still got the error.
Went and did the Check Updates in Photoshop and updated the Camera Raw (and other components) but STILL cannot open the CR2 files.
I can see the thumbnails in Bridge but when I double click to open them in Photoshop, same error.
Cannot seem to get past the "Could not complete your request..." error.
Any ideas?

I have tried opening them on both my office and home computer but neither of them work.
Hmmm... could it have anything to do with the lens (Canon Macro Lens EF 100mm1:2.8 USM)

Unable to open the document when combining files.

We have a user that gets an error when combining files. It says
Unable to open the document:
<Filename and path>
Please check to see if you have read permission for the above file.
Retry and cancel buttons.
We get this error on every subsequent file, it works on the first one after the computer starts.
This computer has Windows Vista Business with SP2, Adobe Acrobat X with the latest patches.
It doesn't matter if the files are local or on a network drive, the same always occurs. I have cleared
all user and system temporary files, re-installed, verified the Acrobat Add-In for Word 2010 is active,
verifed the PDF printer is working fine. It only happens when trying to combine files. I have given the
user local administrator privilidges, tried with my account that has domain admin priviledges, no luck.
I really need some suggestions...

I have found out from Adobe technical support that this is a known issue with Office 2010 SP1 installed.
This is an FYI for anyone else experiencing this issue, remove SP1 and it will work ok.
They said an update to correct this issue will be coming within the next quarter.

I have scanned photos and negatives using Kaiser Baas Photo & Negative scanner. I am unable to open the jpeg files produced using Photoshop Elements 6, any advice on how to?

I don't seem to have any trouble opening the file in pse 6 on windows xp.
I'd reset the pse 6 editor preferences and see if that makes a difference.
Press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt just after starting the launch of the pse 6 editor
Keeping holding down the keys until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the photoshop elements settings file
Press Yes in that dialog

Can someone help? I am unable to open MS Word 2011 .docx files after installing LION OS.

I recently had a hard drive failure on my iMac. A new 1TB hard drive was installed along with OS X 10.6.8. Since restoring files from Time Machine, I am unable to open .docx files using MS Word 2011. I receive a 'convert file' dialog box. I can open .doc files that were restored from Time Machine and any new files in .docx format. I cannot open any .docx files restored from Time Machine. Has anyone else ran into this problem and do you have a workaround or solution?

TextLayout.swc does not resolve to valid file

Hi, I have not worked in Flash for awhile and have spent way too long just adding a link to a simple button. I have scoured the web looking for AS3 button examples and tried them all. No matter what I try, I keep getting the following error when I publish. When I try to click the link in the swf on my html page it doesn't link to anything and just goes back to the collapsed state of the flash file.
Here is the error:
Warning: Library path "$(AppConfig)/ActionScript 3.0/libs/11.0/textLayout.swc" does not resolve to a valid file.
Perhaps I should mention that I am currently evaluating Adobe Cloud versions, trying to decide if I'm going to be purchase the membership. Not sure if that matters but thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for the response. I actually shouldn't have any text fields at all (which is another reason I thought it was a strange error). I'm using an expanding ad template with a library that only consists of only graphics. I don't see any text fields in symbols or movie clips at all. I was looking to try to set it back to Flash 9 but it doesn't look like that is even an option with Flash CC. The farthest back I can go is 10. Hmmm. Kind of stumped at the moment.

Unable to open Notes

I mentioned this in a similar thread in the iPhone 3Gs forum, but I have an iPhone 3G, so I figured I should post it here too. I am unable to access Notes: the app opens, displays a blank note for a few seconds, then crashes back to the main screen.
The problem occurred a couple of days ago, soon after creating a new note - the first new note since I installed the 3.0.1 update. I'd had no trouble with Notes prior to this.
I've tried restarting the iPhone, both normally and via hard reset; I've also Restored the phone via iTunes and then from my last backup. I'm still experiencing the same issue.
Anyone else seen this? I have some Notes I'd be pretty sad to lose, since I gave up carrying a notepad and pencil when I discovered how handy Notes was.

I have this problem since a week ago and cannot find out any solution for it. Can anyone help on this?

Unable to open Photoshop 7 missing a file HELP!

I had a virus sometime ago, when I went in to open Photoshop 7 I noticed my Icon was missing from my desktop, I looked into the photoshop 7 and files are there but I do not see an exe file, and really not sure what files are missing looks to have most other files just no exe file. how can I get it back, I cannot find my install disk, I do have my serial #, is there anyway I can download the needed files?

I would concur with Rave that you may want to look at Photoshop Elements 11 for a low cost alternative which may give you the functionality you need. What is the current version of Camera Raw Plugin installed on machine?
it should be 5.2 and later because Canon 5D Mark II start supported since relase of Camera Raw 5.2.

Unable to open old .avi and .mov files

I teach and have a number of .avi files that I wish to use in class. These files open and play fine in Windows XP, but which do not open in OS X (10.6.2). It looks like some of these files date from about 1996 and 1997. Under older versions of OS X and Quicktime, I believe I could open these. Please guide me, because I am totally clueless as to which codec or what that I would need for these to work.
I have installed Flip4Mac, have "Reclaimed" the files to be played by Flip4Mac (Quicktime), and I have tried Quicktime Player 7 as well as Quicktime Player 10.0, Real Player 11, and a downloaded a codec (XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha component, and a player Divx 7. I have tried to set the "Open with" setting in the information box for these files to correspond to these programs, but this and none of my attempts has worked. Surely I am doing this by brute force (no understanding).
Finally, I have a .mov file that was made under OS 9 using an Alaris web camera. This plays with Quicktime in Windows XP, and I believe it used to play under older versions of OS X with Quicktime. What do I need to do to access this file with the current Quicktime in OS 10.6.2?
By the way, it seems that Apple eliminated the Quicktime control panel pane. Thus I cannot see any settings for Quicktime. Thank you.

Why do the .avi movies from my 8 year old camera play with Quicktime, but I had to use the VLC Media Player to open old .avi files?
AVI is a file container -- not an audio/video compression format. As such, lime the MOV file container, it may contain almost any valid combination of audio, video, and/or other data. Whether or not a particular file will play is determined by whether or not you have the the required codec(s) installed on your system. Be advised that AVI is a relatively old file type support for which the developer dropped a decade ago but Windows users continue to embrace due to its versatility and the fact there are so many AVI files available for download. Unfortunately, not all codecs have been transcoded for use on the Mac platform, And, some of those that have, are only availaby for use with System 9. Of those that have been made available for OS X, some are not available for Intel platform use. Further, with Apple's current move to update QT technology, things are likely to get worse for AVI users. My personal advice would be to move on to newer, more efficient compression formats having specific/improved file type features and to convert anything you want/must keep to those compression/file formats.
