Unable to open or re-install iTunes

I am not able to open iTunes, I get the message 'this application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was nit found.' I tried to reinstall itunes, but it does not work either.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

latest message indicates I need Apple Application Update
With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Itunes will not open, uninstall or install, Itunes will not open, uninstall or install

Eversince I got the itunes message to upgrade my itunes my itunes has stopped working. I cannot open itunes, I can't uninstall it and I cant install a new itunes setup. What is going on?!
Everytime I click itunes to open I get this message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriatepermissions to access the item."
Ok so my next step is to check the permissions for the actual program and I have all administrator permissions linked to my account!
So then I thought maybe I should just uninstall it and start over... Go to control panel, uninstall itunes....  I get this message from itunes "The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\program files\itunes\acknowledgements.rtf" ... Weird... So I go to that address and try and delete or open the file... I get a message saying I have no permission to do so... so I guess I have to see if I can change the permissions right?! Still same thing... I have all admin permission for this file AND for all of my itunes file! :/
Fine... let me see if I can install itunes instead... Go to the itunes website... enter email... download setup... open setup... I get the same message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriatepermissions to access the item."
Can ANYONE help?! What am I doing wrong here?

Did anyone get back to you on the issue?

  • Unable to update, or re-install, iTunes on windows 7...

my family uses our desktop computer for syncing their iPod Touches with iTunes. Recently, they began having an issue with having iTunes open up without running it as an Administrator. It became more and more difficult to get it to open. I finally decided to uninstall iTunes and then re-install it. Uninstalling it was like trying to surgically remove cancer or something. It was everywhere. Online forums advised me to use a free windows program called revo uninstaller. I did, and boy does it remove everything. Keep that one in your back pocket. It cleans registry entries and everything else. So I tried to re-install iTunes and I keep getting this security error: 5. I can't get it to re-install for anything. My kids are searching the internet for this fix and that process, and nothing is working. HELP!
I tried installing the current iTunes, and even tried to regress back to 10.6.3 as directed on several help websites.

Does anybody know a fix for this?

  • Unable to import cds after installing iTunes latest version 10.1.0.56

I downloaded iTunes 10.1.56 after having problems with the 10.1.0.54 version. I can only download the first 1/2 of song 1 and nothing from the rest of any cd. many thanks, Lucky.
There doesn't look to be any newer versions of Dell firmware for your DVD-ROM GDRH10N. It might be worth heading to Windows update and checking to see if there's a firmware update for that in your optional hardware updates.
Otherwise, head to the following page at Dell:
    [Drivers & Downloads for Dimension E521|http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WLH&catid=-1 &dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=DIMP4E521&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False]
(It might indeed be worth entering your Service tag there, just to reduce the number of different available downloads for you to check through.
Check in particular to see if your BIOS and the video driver for your ATI X1300 is up to date.
There seem to be a lot of firmware updates for hard drives being listed for the E521, so also check to see if there's one for your hard drive. If so, it's probably best to update that too, just in case.
If you were behind on anything and you update, try reimporting another of the CDs that has been importing poorly. Do you get a better import this time?
