Unable to Open Photos - JPEG, TIFF, etc... HELP!

I have been using PS CS4 for well over a year and, until this week, it has been flawless. Now, all of a sudden, when I try to open a photo file from PS nothing happens. Ditto for selecting "Edit In" (Photoshop) from within LightRoom... In this case PS opens normally from LR but, again, no photo appears. The problem applies to all formats...TIFF, JPEG, etc.
I have tried all my other programs (Canon DPP, DxOptics Pro, MS Word (Photo import and LightRoom), and others and in all cases ALL my photos open normally. It is limited to just to opening in PS CS4.
I have tested my drives, checked Program Compatibility, and have run every diagnostic program I can think of in WIN7 with no abnormal indications on any of them. I went through the Sart-Up items and nothing has changed. I have even Uninstalled the program and re-installed it. When the problem occurs I can re-start the computer and sometimes I am able to open photos for a while and then... nothing...again, only in PS. Have reset Prefereces continually and removed all Plug-Ins... Also disabled the "AERO" function within WIN7. The computer and all other programs operates perfectly in all other respects... no slow down, no errors.
I have not added any other software.
What have I missed? Is there some "Hidden" file somewhere that has been corrupted and wasn't addressed when I re-installed the program?
Would appreciate any help possible...

RE: Your Reply     I have uded Dual Screen forever... No changes have been made to the system or it's contents...The Preference Re-Set was Ctrl/Alt/Shift to reset PS Preferences. I think the important point is that my photos are recognized in all my other photo programs and MS Word (Import Photos). PS is the only program that is failing to open the files (JPEG, TIFF").I can open PS and use Adobe Bridge to bring up a CR2 RAW file (it does) but when I click "Open" to present it in PS the photo will not come up.
I checked the WIN7 Error Log and it shows several PS failures and gives an Error about 40 digits long and then says "Check WIN7 Action Center". I checked the site and went through all the Compatibility, System, Software checks and they were normal. I also went into Win Explorer and checked all the computer Components/Conflicts/ Memory/ etc. and they were all either "O.K", "Normal", or "Operating Normally". In all other respects the computer is absolutely normal.
Darned if I can figure it out.

Unable to transfer photos (jpeg) from desktop to SD card for Cannon Power shot camera.
Appears as if successful, jpegs show up in SD card window,  but they do not  show up when I put SD card in camera.
Go through entire process to no avail.  SD card is not locked.
    Thank You

    Ahh, extra info ahead...
Pictures on SD card, SanDisc-SDHC, 4GB Card, are jpeg.  The ones I would like to put on the card are jpeg as well.
    SD format MS-DOS (FAT32) .
    3.876 GB available on card.
    I have
Exported the pics from iPhoto to the desktop. Inserted sd card into side of iMac.  The icon of card popped up.
    Attempts to no avail:
    1)   Dragged the photos to the disk icon for the sd card.
    2)   Dragged pictures into the DCIM folder (where all photos taken on camera resided).
    3)   Created new folder.  Put photos from desktop into folder and dragged ne folder inside DCIM -since pictures taken at different times had their own folders inside the DCIM folder.
Every time the photos/files end up showing up on the sd card as long as it is in my computer but when ejected and inserted into my camera, all imported photos/jpeg file are gone.
    Hmmmmm

  • Unable to open any jpegs

I just noticed that I am unable to open any jpeg files on my MacPro.  I cannot be sure when it started but in the last two days it became apparent to me.  when I click on a file on the desktop or in Finder, nothing happens. The icon of the item is highlighted but it doesn't move, budge or give an error message.
The only recent that happened on my Mac was that some fonts had to be cleaned up b/c of an issue with Office for Mac but I can't imagine that has any relationship?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.
    Bernice

Do these steps in order and as written and do not skip ahead:
Find a JPG file on the desktop and right (or control) click it.
In the pop up should be Open With...
Go to the bottom and select Other.
Look for the program Preview and select it. At the bottom will be a box to check that states "Always Open With". Check that box.
    Then click Open.
You should be able to open JPGs again.

I have just installed PE13 on a new Mac. When I try to open photos it crashes. Help please.

If you haven't already done so, then try closing the Message app via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the iPad's home screen double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Message app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • When I email photos from iphoto(9.2.2) the recipients are unable to open the jpegs - why?

When I email photos from iphoto (9.2.2) the recepients are unable to open the files, and command I tells me they are locked-
How and where do I unlock them?

You can't unlock files on their machines.
iPhoto sends HTML emails and not every email application (or user) knows how to work with these.
Send Plain text emails via Mail instead. That's pretty foolproof.

  • I am unable to open Photo on my MacBook Pro after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get says "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!

I am unable to open iPhoto on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.3)  after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get is "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Reinstall it.This time delete the receipts first.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update.

  • Writing XMP to multiple file formats (PDF, JPEG,  TIFF, etc)

    Hi,
I am developing a server-side component that embeds XMP data into a file (of various formats) and then provides these files for client download.
I have been using the XMP toolkit for generating the metadata, however i now have the problem of getting this metadata into the relevant file. I could always develop this myself but it seems like a huge amount of work. So to make my life easier, does anyone know of any toolkits (from adobe or otherwise) that support writing XMP data into different file formats (PDF, JPEG, TIFF, AIFF, MPEG etc) ??
I am developing in Java so I would prefer Java libraries, however I can always use JNI calls to C/C++ (as i have with the XMP toolkit).
Any help would be very appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jude

    Greetings,
I think we should standardize some information, I know for a fack, that I will support adding XMP metadata in the HDF, RIFF, IFF and OLE file formats. If you have any specific suggestions on the chunk information or signature information that I should use, let me know?
For my part, I was thinking of adding RIFF,IFF chunks with the name \ xmp in those file formats. For OLE, maybe an added stream with the xmp name (in UTF-16).
    Comments welcome everyone!

  • Unable to open photo editor in photoshop elements 11

After initial install on my windows 7 64 bit system , all aspects of the software worked for about a month and then I could not open the photo editor. All other aspects of this product opens and works fine . Unfotunatly I cannot use the editor or open photos previously modified in the editor. I can open the editor if I log in in safe mode but no other way. I have done 2-3 clean installs as described in previous articles, there are no errors just won't open. Any ideas>?

Went through verified firewall disabled and turned off defender ,previously removed antivirus that I was using. Uninstalled  and reinsatalled now recieving error  "
    PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.

  • Unable to open photo's e-mailed to me in .jpg format

When I receive a photo I am unable to open it. A blank page on Live Photo Gallery flashes but no photo appears. All photo's are jpg
I have sent the same e-mail to my work PC and photo opens just fine.
    Thank You

This affects me with Thunderbird with large jpg files. (TB 24.5.0)
The same files which crash Thunderbird will also crash Firefox if you try to open them with it. (FF29)
They will open fine in any image program I possess, or any other web browser, so I'm assuming it is a Gecko problem?
The crash of either T-Bird or FF is also kicking me out of my session, so I have to login again.
Open the files in an image viewer, convert them to any other file type (e.g. tif) they open fine in T-bird and FF.

  • Unable to open photos

Recently, after adding new photos to my iPad, a new problem has developed. I am unable to open the Photos app. When the icon is pressed, I get the message 'Please wait - Updating Library', then after three or four seconds the main app screen reappears. I have tried restarting the iPad, and also tried a reset, although I have not done a full erase and reset. Any ideas?

First step is to reset your iPad. You will not loose anything:
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the
Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Unable to open files in InCopy6, etc.

We have been using an InDesign/InCopy workflow for a little over a year. Until recently, we were using InDesign5 and InCopy 5.5, and we had no problems opening and working in the assignments. In the last month or two, some of our new freelancers purchased InCopy6, and it quickly became apparent that it was not compatible with files created in InDesign5. They were unable to open packages, or if a package could be opened it ultimately crashed and lost the changes.
We have upgraded across the board: designers all have InDesign6, and editors/copy editors have InCopy6. However, this upgrade has not resolved the problems and, in fact, the problems seem to be increasing. Many of the files still cannot be opened (often, InCopy shuts down when trying to open a file and says "a serious error was detected"); this seems to be happening more with larger files. Also, some projects open but have pages missing from story/galley view.
Our designers say that they are continuing to work and create assignment packages as before, and even our veteran editors and copy editors are having issues. Does anyone have insight into what may be happening and how we can resolve it? At this point, it's getting hard to rely on this workflow.

    Here's a follow up.
I've isolated the issue to a corrupt .indd file. I can't explain how the file got corrupt, but I'm fairly sure this is the cause of my issues here.
    Here's what happened.
    We use a Dropbox workflow.
I start by creating templates for what we call "program guides." I believe I originally created the template in question with InDesign CS5, but it may have been created with the pre-updated version of InDesign CS6. I don't remember. I then save the stories to a stories folder in the root folder of the document so a compliance officer can edit the content via InCopy CS6.
When a client needs a Program Guide, I then open that template and re-save it into a client specific folder. I delete/unlink the stories and re-export new stories into a stories folder located next to the specific client's Program Guide. Program Managers then edit the marketing portion of the Program Guide content via InCopy CS6.
The issue in this case - the Program Manager could not edit the document, nor could he see the "Galley" or "Story" tabs indicating that InCopy could not see any linked stories.
    - I tried re-saving the document, deleting and re-exporting the stories; same result
    - I tried exporting the document in .IDML so as to "clense" it and eliminate any corruption; same result
    - I tried eliminating elements from the document, one by one, to asertain if a corrupt element (image or text box) might be the culprit; same result
    - I finally created a new document, with new text frames and cut and paste the "text only" into the new document/text frames - this worked. When I exported the stories, InCopy was able to see and edit them.
As I believe my original work flow was correct, I still regard this a "bug" in InDesign as the issue seems to have something to do with the way InDesign saves/re-saves an InDesign document.
I do believe I have a tempory work-a-round that will allow me to continue using an InCopy workflow until Adobe updates the software.

  • Please Help! Suddenly unable to open Mail, Address Book etc

This morning when I woke up my IBook my Mail was still open from yesterday. When I tried to open ICal it kept crashing. So I restarted and then suddenly ITunes, Mail, Address Book and ICal would not open at all!! (However, it seems that iPhoto, Appleworks, Safari etc is fine).
I do have a IPhone, but haven't synced in a week or so. Not sure that that would be relevant at all.
The other weird thing that has happened, is that all the info on the top right hand corner of my menu bar (my airport, date, weather snitch, spotlight etc) disappeared a few weeks ago. It has been blank there ever since. When I just did a check of those applications ( internet connect, weather snitch) they also didn't open now.
Thanks in advance for any advice at all...
BTW, I just ran verify disk, and it stopped with this error message:
" the underlying task reported failure on exit" - The volume needs to be repaired.
Really hoping that someone can help me with this!

Hi ALSVLA, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!

I am transferring my mother's address book and mail etc to my computer from an external hard drive enclosure and am not able to open it due to this message:  You can't use this version of the application Address Book with this version of Mac OS X. HELP!  Is there a way to open her older applications and get the info out?

her email is in user>Library>Mail folder. Hopefully you've created another user on your Mac for your mother so she would have her own user Library.
