Unable to open RH 8 in Win Vista

Hi,
You might notice that I haven't posted much to the forum.  That is because I've been very satisfied with RoboHelp 8, up to this point.
My company bought RH 8 in Aug 09, and I've used it regularly since then. Usually when we come out with a new release of our product, I've written the  online help first, and the paper documentation after that.  This time, I've done things differently, and done the paper documentation first.  As a result, I haven't used RoboHelp for several months.  I tried to open it yesterday, and it will NOT open.  When the splash screen displays, it gets to where the HTML drivers are being loaded, and stops at that point.  So, here is what I've done.
1. Tried to open a sample project by clicking on an XPJ file.  No luck.  I deleted the CPD file for that project, and again tried to open it.  No luck.
2.  Defragged the computer, tried to open RH 8, no luck.
3.  Completly deleted RH 8, and installed a new instance.  No luck
4.  Deleted installed software that had been installed since RH 8.  No luck
I don't have an older restore point to which I can go back.  All of my projects (3 major ones) have been worked on in my computer, not on the network.
I'm sure that there is something that I've overlooked, but it doesn't come to mind at the moment.  I've consulted with some of the IT people in our company, and they haven't suggested anything else either.
Any input that would help me resolve this problem would be truly appreciated.  Thanks in advance,
Vic

Hi Vic.
I fear my previous response may have been incorrect as the dependency between RH and MS Word was removed in RH8. Peter Grainge seems to think there was a similar problem recently that was solved by a new Windows profile. try creating a new user on the PC or logging on with another user. That should help narrow down the problem.

After updated to iTunes 11.1.4 for windows vista , I was unable to open iTunes and it keep error message. My iphone unable to USB hotspot the internet to computer. Pls Help

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Unable to open Itunes in Vista - data execution prevention (DEP)

I'm unable to open itunes on my computer. I can install it but not open it. It says that the data execution prevention has stopped the running of the program. I have tried to change the settings of the data execution program, but it will not allow me to accept itunes - as it says that DEP has to be activated for itunes and cannot be deactivated. What do I do?

One temporary solution is to run itunes through XP rather than vista.
To do this go to the program icon (makes sure its not a shortcut, and the actual program icon, you can find this in your program files if its on on your desktop)
    sideclick on the icon
    go to properties
    compatibility tab
check Windows XP service pack 2
    tell it to apply
This should allow you to use itunes

  • Unable to open multiple PDF files in Acrobat 9 Pro - Vista

I have a staff member that is unable to open more than one PDF at a time.  If a PDF is currently open and another one is selected the program will crash and close.  It gives a message stating the program has crashed and must be closed and also gives an option to check online for a solution.  Has anyone else seen this issue or know a fix for it?  Thanks in advance.

No. Starting with Acrobat 9 it is no longer possible to open multiple PDF files in the same window.

  • ERROR Message "UNABLE TO OPEN" and "E_IO_Cannot_Open"

Trying to download 6 ebooks from Hive and I can download the acsm file but when I click that I get an error message "Unable To Open" and "E_IO_Cannot Open." The computer is authorised and uses Win 7 with ADE 3.  I tried ADE 4 but no better.  I have an older PC using Vista and ADE 2 and that will download okay but it is constantly being used so it is not convenient.  Does anybody know what's wrong?  Thanks.

    Hello,
To try to help you, please, could you give some more informations ?
    - the operating system (XP/Vista), the edition ( Pro/Home...) and the service pack
    - usually, the installer installs the both files in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Sql Server\Samples. Is there any change in the location or have you moved the both files ?
    - could you check with the files explorer , that the 2 files are read-write and not read only( find one file, right-click on it, properties and in the 1st tabpage, you should see a checkbox read-only ( if checked , unchecke it ) ?
    - have you Sql Server Management Studio Express Edition ( at least SP1 ) ?
If no, download it and use it to attach
    in the object explorer,
click on your instance to expand it
    right click on databases
in the contextual menu, click on attach
in the new form, click on add
you arrive on a second form : find your file , click on it, and OK
it's the simplest way to attach ( the sp_-attach_db is complicated to type )
the error messages are sometimes more clear in SSMSEE than in Sqlcmd
Try also to attach ( thru SSMSEE or Sqlcmd but in using the windows authentification )
NB: i hope that you are not trying to attach AdventureWorks on a remote instance and on a remote computer ( it would explain access denied )
We are waiting for your feedback to try to help you more efficiently
    Have a nice day

    I'm having a similar issue.
Did a fresh install of 11.2.0.1.0 under Windows 2003 - latest updates - IE 8.
I can access Enterprise Manager from other computers - but not from the local server.
    I've tried both: https://oracle.xxxx.xxx:1158/em and https://localhost:1158/em
Both give me the generic "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" - but if I access from another computer it comes up - so I know everything is working...

  • Server 08 R2 DC - unable to open ADUC, netlogon does not start

Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for any possible support.
Note:  All identifying server/domain names have been replaced with "CORP" "Sub" and "Sibling" where appropriate.  Our forest consists of 3 domains - two which are 'siblings' at the top, CORP and Sibling, (corp being
the primarily used one), and one which is a 'child' of Corp (Sub).
Today we identified that on one of my domain controllers (named for this post, CORP-DC6) we are unable to open ADUC. This is only one of our 8 DC's, and it does not hold any FSMO roles; the only two important pieces on this server is that it's where we manage
our OCS from (we use ADUC on this system to enable a user for OCS, create SIP addresses, etc) and that Certification Authority is installed on the system.
Attempting to open ADUC gives error "Naming information cannot be located because: The target principal name is incorrect."
Web searches for this prompted me to check DNS for issues.  In looking into DNS, I found that the system was somehow assigned a different IP address than it should have (it was now at 192.168.1.124 instead of 192.168.1.290 where it should have been).
I moved the IP address back to the correct IP, and rebooted.
The issue was still there, so I continued searching; which lead me to a suggestion to check out my netlogon service.  I found that the Netlogon service was NOT running.   When attempting to start the service, it fails and I am presented wih the
following error in the System event log:

Additional Info that may help out:
When I open Server Manager, it seems to think the local system's name is WIN-3OL3DIFK4S instead of CORP-DC6; similarly opening Device Manager from w/in Server manger gives a message about managing a remote system; even though I am managing the local system.
There are additional errors in the System and Application log which are certainly issues, but I do not know if they pertain to the main issue at hand here or not.

This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Please ensure that the target SPN is registered on, and only registered on, the account used by the server. This error can also happen when the target service is using a different password for the target service account than what the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) has for the target service account. Please ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both updated to use the current password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (CORP.COM) is different from the client domain (CORP.COM), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server.

Smply based on a quick look through of the dcdiag and the various event log messages, It seems to me that the NetLogon service not starting up is causing most of the errors; but I am not aware of how to get it to start up.

Thank you for the quick response!
Windows firewall is disabled for all network profiles.
We have do have 7 DC's in the forest.  here's an image i created a while back that lists our DC's and shows the replication partners (not really relevant, but this shows the DC's) http://i.imgur.com/AtjGuiM.jpg
I believe May 27 was a date in which we performed maintenance/upgrades on our vmware virtual hardware on this VM; when we upgraded the virtual hardware, it created a new NIC device on this server (which is how the system lost it's IP address configuration).
Today, I assigned the correct IP to the 'new' NIC.
will look at link about Kerberos
I'm unfortunately not familiar enough with the purposes of the internal vs external forwarders to comment on this or make a change at this time.
    IPConfig info shown below
DNS is AD integrated, each domain has it's own DNS servers and have conditional forwarders to point to the other domain when appropriate. I believe each DC is also running DNS, but via DHCP we only pass out at most two DNS servers to client systems (main
    office, it's 192.168.1.7, 192.168.1.8)

  • Unable to open the export file during Import ABAP phase on tar(System copy)

    Hi Experts,
We are encountering the following error during Import ABAP phase on target system as we are performing system copy on target system as part of hardware migration(Data center migration).
    Scenario:
    Sourrce system -  BI- ABAP(7.01), Win 2003 x64 unicode,Oracle 10.2.0.4
    Target system - BI-ABAP(7.01), Win 2008 R2 unicode, Oracle 11.2.0.1
Actually on source system the data has been generated using migration monitor by using table splitting option and transferred on target system thru ftp option.
During Import process while selecting the Database installation type we have selected the installation method as "Standard systemcopy/Migration(load based)" and not checked the option "Start Migration montior Manually".
As far as my concern this error has nothing to do with this selection.please correct me If i am wrong.

  • Error message: "Unable to open the physical file" when trying to attach AdventureWorks database

I have searched the internet and this forum and have not found an answer...
I am trying to install the AdventureWorks database into my single instance of MS SQL Server Express 2005.  I am logged into my machine as an administrator and logged into SQL Server 2005 express 'sa'.  I attempt to run the following script:
    exec sp_attach_db @dbname = N'AdventureWorks',
    @filename1 = N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\AdventureWorks_Data.mdf',
    @filename2 = N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\AdventureWorks_log.ldf'
The error message I get back is:
    Msg 5120, Level 16, State 101, Line 1
Unable to open the physical file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\AdventureWorks_Data.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".
The folder "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data" and all the files in it are read-write.  I am 100.0000% certain the files "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\AdventureWorks_Data.mdf" and "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\AdventureWorks_Log.ldf" exist!  They are the result of running the installation program AdventureWorksDB.msi, which I downloaded from: http://www.codeplex.com/MSFTDBProdSamples/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=4004.
What do I have to do to install the AdventureWorkds database????

    Hello,
To try to help you, please, could you give some more informations ?

Unable to open AVI files in Photoshop CS6
I am running PS6 and want to open and edit AVI files. When I try to do that I get an error message saying "the video file cannot be opened" . This seems to apply to ALL avis - yet I can open and edit MP4, MMV etc. I installed Gspot to track whether it was a codec issue and when I try to open ANY file I get this error message : "Warning: DirectShow crashed while GSpot was attempting to obtain information about a codec.  This is usually due to damaged, misconfigured, conflicting, or poorly written codec drivers.  It is possible, perhaps even likely, that other media players will crash when they attempt to play this file as well, as most of them will also use DirectShow.  GSpot was able to intercept the crash, and has attempted to identify the codec or filter involved; uninstalling or reinstalling this codec or filter may solve the problem.  The codec was tentatively identified as:  C:\Windows\system32\imaadp32.acm Unknown video codec #11" I have NO idea where to go from here. I see a site to download the "imaadp32.acm"  codec but what about the "Unknown video codec #11". What the heck is that and what do I do about it. Any help would be appreciate, Cliff
ps I should add that the avi files DO open and play in Bridge. I have the latest Quicktime. Everything is up to date and PS and the computer is otherwise working perfectly !

    Thanks Curt and 'Mylenium'
I did re-set the prefs - but to no avail
I checked and my graphics driver and audio is all up to date.
No sure how to verify Windows Media Player's hardware acceleration options. I opened WMP Options /Perfformance tab and under Cd the DirX tab is checked.
Running Windows Vista - so does the same caution apply regarding a re-install of Windows Media Components and DirectX ?
Appreciate your help with this somewhat frustrating issue. I am converting some old 8mm film to avi with the hope of doing some edits then burning to DVD.
    Cliff
