Unable to open tool options

I am not able to open tool options on the bottom bar in Photshop Elements 12.
This happens when I select the text tool as well as the crop tool.
Thank you

Perhaps you need to click on the tool options icon as shown in this picture:

  • Firefox hangs when opening Tools - Options, even in Safe Mode

I've just upgraded to Firefox 3.6.13. Prior to upgrading I removed all add ons. I went to Tools -> Options to check the settings and Firefox hung. I had to end it with Ctrl-Alt-Del. This happened several times. Then I started Firefox in Safe Mode and attempted to view Tools -> Options again. Firefox hung. It does not try to submit any crash reports (apart from the automatic Microsoft report that occurs when you end a program manually).
I can browse websites ok, open PDFs, view Flash, etc. I just can't view my options!

Thanks for the note about profile locations.
I deleted mimeType.rdf in my existing profile, still have the same issue - can't view Tools -> Options for the Applications tab, or download a file. Same goes for a new profile - the same issues arise.
Firefox never does crash, I can leave it in this hung state for hours (I left it in a 'not responding' state last night and it was still hung this morning).
I was going to add a screen shot to this post but Firefox hung when I clicked on the 'Browse' button. Perhaps this is an issue when FF tries to interact with my directory structure? Does that get us any leads on what's wrong?
FYI, I currently have my antivirus disabled & not running in the task bar just in case that was interfering somehow.

  • FF 3.6.10 hangs when opening Tools:Options

Precisely, with ff open if I select Tools:Options the pull down closes but nothing happens. If I click the mouse on the desktop I get an hourglass and nothing else happens. IfI click again, the ff title bar shows (not responding)...and nothing happens.
This also happens in safe mode with allplugins and extensions disabled and my antivirus disabled.
I've been using FF for years and never had such problems.
    Can anyone help
    jona

You can try to delete downloads.sqlite and mimeTypes.RDF in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]
Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]]
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • Unable to open AirPort options sheet in Network System Preference

    Hi there,
There are several posts (and a Radar bug number, 4273111) reporting a certain difficulty with systems that have been upgraded to Tiger. For some reason: When viewing the AirPort network interface in the Network system preference, certain installations do not allow one to open the "Options" sheet.
    To reproduce:
    1. Open System Preferences.
    2. Click on the Network system preference.
    3. Show -> AirPort.
    4. Click the "Options" button.
Normally, this should open an options sheet. However, on three separate systems I've encountered that have been upgraded to 10.4.x from earlier versions of Mac OS X (Jaguar to Panther to Tiger), the sheet does not open at all. Console reports the following when the button is clicked:
    2006-11-07 09:55:22.206 System Preferences[379] * Assertion failure in -[PreferencesApp _commonBeginModalSessionForWindow:relativeToWindow:modalDelegate:didEndSelector :contextInfo:], AppKit.subproj/NSApplication.m:3057
2006-11-07 09:55:22.229 System Preferences[379] Modal session requires modal window
I've tried replacing the following items (then repairing permissions after each attempt) with a known-good copy from another 10.4.x system (same OS version/build in each case—as of this post, tested through 10.4.8), without effect:
    /Applications/System Preferences.app
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
    /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Network.prefPane
    /System/Library/Frameworks/Preferences.framework
I've seen references to a similar error in Safari that was able to be fixed with a reinstall of Safari—apparently, something corrupted in WebKit.framework. I'm presuming something similar would work here (and it's been reported that an Archive and Install will fix the problem, but that's certainly overkill to correct such an issue).
I've got clients that are not happy about this and the problem has apparently been documented for well over a year now. The following Discussions threads cover it as well:
    "can't open airport options"

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1123291
    "Airport Preferred Networks"
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=722797
I'm happy to lend whatever troubleshooting assistance I can, so if anyone else out there can similarly recommend files I might try replacing that I've not already mentioned here, or any other information that could be helpful, I'd certainly appreciate it!
    Thanks much,

  • SunStudio12 freezes when opening Tools- Options

    Hello,
I'm evaluating SS12 for my project team. We were using pretty old sun workshop before, recently we have evaluated SS11. It's fine but lacks some features and SS12 is new so I wanted to try it. All looks fine except options in menu. When I try to open it, nothing happens and SS12 hangs.
What can couse such thing? I have checked Netbeans that came along with SS12 and it does not have that issue.
This might be a configuration issue as it was installed by server admin and devs have no full rights to certain files. Are the any specific files I need to have access to?
I'm running Solaris 10 and opening SS12 with jdk1.5.0_11 or jdk1.5.0_04 (tried both). There is SS11 on same machine (different dir of course).
    Thanks for help!

I'm not aware of any such hangs.
Could you please start the IDE from a console and when it hangs

  • Disable auto show tool options

    Hi -
I'm a new user of PE11, just upgraded from PE7.  I've read in the forum where users say they've disabled Auto Show Tool Options (Keyboard Shortcuts post on 10/15/12).  I would like to disable auto show but haven't been able to figure out how. Can someone please enlighten me?  Sorry if this question has been asked before, but there were no results when I did a forum search for "Disable Auto Show Tool Options."
I also read in that same post that users who disabled auto show use the F4 key to open Tool Options and F5 to open Photo Bin.  That leads me to believe that the window at the bottom of the screen - the one with icons for Photo Bin, Tool Options, Undo, Redo, etc - no longer appears at the bottom of the screen after auto show is disabled.  But if that window doesn't disappear, then why press F4 to open Tool Options or F5 to open the Photo Bin when you can just click on the appropriate icon at the bottom of the screen?
Finally, if the window at the bottom of the screen does disappear when auto show is disabled, how does one engage Undo and Redo?
    Thanks very much.

When the tool options panel is visible click the four-lined square at the far right and choose it from the menu there:

  • I can't open .doc downloads with MS Office. I click tools-options-applications and Word is not in the list of choices. I browse and double click MS Office to choose it only to get more subfolders. How do I choose Office?

When I receive a .doc (or .docx) to download from an email, open office or another similar application is chosen to open it instead of MS Office Word (have 2007 student). When I go to Tools>Options>Applications, Word does not appear on the list. When I use the Browse button, I cannot choose Word either. I double click on the MS Office folder only to get more subfolders.

== I think it's always been the case

I have a similar problem. Even though Word is listed under Firefox applications as opening .doc files, when I try to download a .doc file, it always asks me to choose an application and I have to go through an extra three steps to open Word.

  • After closing a browser window and if I open a new browser window , the browser will not open per my home page in tools/options/startup, it loads the last page

recently when opening a new browser, everything Is using and closed during my last session will open
multiple widows will open and whatever tabs were open per respective windows will open and not per tools/options/startup/homepage
this has never happened until just recently and nothing else seems to have changed nor has any new programs etc been loaded or changed

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default.
Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension.
You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • Firefox won't open PDF files after I removed older version of PDF-xChange Viewer and installed the lastest version of PDF-xChange Viewer. MS Explorer which I am now force to use works OK. I have checked the Applications window in Tools/Options and it l

Firefox no longer opens PDF files. Explorer works OK. I have checked the Applications window in the Tools/Options and it says I am using PDF-xChange viewer....It just does not do anything. I get the message in the Download Error window which says...."could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Is the same error which I get when I attempt to open a PDF file on a webpage using the Firefox browser....Explorer works OK so I am now forced to Explorer to read PDF files via a browser.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== After removing a old copy of PDF-xChange Viewer and updating to the last version

The error message suggests that the file (pdf) that you're trying to download cannot be saved in the folder Firefox tries to save it in.
This can be due to several things - it could be a non-existing folder (could be a problem with the updated application), the hard drive could be too full to store the file (less likely if you can generally surf the net without error messages) or it could contain an error.
To complicate things a little further, it seems to me that you have (at least) 3 different PDF-handling plugins in Firefox from different programs:
    PDF-XChange Viewer Netscape Gecko Plugin
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape "9.3.2"
    Zeon PDF Plugin For Mozilla
This shouldn't matter too much, thou, as it will most likely simply use either the latest installed or the first one it finds when looking up associations for files of type 'pdf'.
First, in Tools > Options... > tab General > section File download, select "Save files in" and Browse your way to a (non-writeprotected!) folder on a drive where you're certain there is enough free space - like the Desktop folder to make the files end up on your Windows desktop.
Second, under Applications as you mention yourself, find all document types related to PDF files, and set these to one of the programs. Check the entire list to be sure there isn't one hiding under one of the other programs' document types (Adobe Acrobat document, PDF X-Change and Zeon).
Restart Firefox, and try opening a PDF again.
If it fails once more, try changing the documents again to one of the other programs, like "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)".
If it STILL fails, change it to simply "Save file". Then you can simply browse your way to the download folder with Windows Explorer, and doubleclick the PDF file to see which program actually handles PDF files as default on the machine, and if it works properly.
If Firefox flatly refuses to save the PDF files in a folder which you're certain both exist and has space for the file, some (probably security related) program is most likely interfering with Firefox, preventing it in storing PDF files on the system.

  • Unable to open windows using boot camp.  Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."  Any thoughts, Thank you.

Unable to open windows using boot camp.  Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."   I am using an Imac , Lion operating system, and Windows 7.  It worked a few days ago.  Any thoughts, Thank you.

Note that nowhere in the Boot Camp instructions does it tell you to use Disk Utility to format the Windows partition. The Boot Camp Assistant program creates the partition & sets the +partition scheme info+ of the disk as appropriate for the Windows installer but the Windows installer itself is responsible for formatting the new partition with the appropriate +file system scheme+ (NTFS for Windows 7).
If you follow the instructions in the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide to the letter you should have no problems installing Windows.

  • How do I keep my tabs open when I close firefox? I have tried the method in this site (tools- options- general- when firefox starts... but it didn't work.

I used to be able to close firefox and have all my opened tabs saved. When I open firefox again, those tabs will be opened as I last closed firefox.
Now, I am not able to do it. The firefox was crashed at one time earlier and I have to open the task manager to force it to close because it is frozen and so was my computer. After I opened it again, there is no tabs saved which I kinda expected. Then I
go on web surfing and browse various websites. Now, when I close firefox, a box pops up warning me about the opened
tabs will be closed. So I googled the symptom and it brought me to this website, telling me that if I set
"tools->open->general->When firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time", it should behave as it was before.
I tried that but it doesn't work.
    Any help is appreciated.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history:
*do not clear the Browsing History
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/remove-recent-browsing-search-and-download-history
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

  • In Tools Options Tabs, my choice is to 'open new window in new tab.' Only opens tab, never window.

Running Firefox version 35.0.1 in Windows 8.1.
In Tools>Options>Tabs, my choice is to 'open new window in a new tab instead.' Whether the box is checked or not checked, I ONLY get tabs, no window. I do not want tabs for anything.
How can I fix it so I check the box and get a window?
    Thank you.

Uncheck that box in order to open new tabs in a new window.
To have complete control, however you can right click on any link and choose "Open in new window" regardless of what is checked in that setting.
    I hope this helps.
