Unable to open video project in Soundtrack

Neophyte FCE 3.5 user, now have high def movie on timeline which needs some audio editing. Tried to open project in Soundtrack (which came with FCE 3.5) but project name is "grayed out" & won't open.
Not really sure whether I should be editing audio in FCE proper or with Soundtrack. I need to make volume adjustments in ambient sounds, delete some extraneous sounds & fill in resulting gaps, and add some music. This is my first "dry" footage, most of my stuff is underwater and only needs a music soundtrack.
Thanks

Thanks, Tom, that is nice and clear. Will proceed with confidence.
But,ummm, why does FCE 3.5 come with Soundtrack? What do the grownups use it for?

Travel and detours have kept me from following up sooner. If the problem that you wrote about still persists.....
Let us go back over that Adobe document regarding troubleshooting damaged projects.
    3. Delete the Application Preferences
Where you able to follow that path and delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file at the end of the path? And, after you did, did the saved/closed programs still refuse to open? If you could not carry out this procedure, what were the limiting factors that kept you from do
    7. Test to see if individual media files are causing the problem.
That is an important one. How far did you get into following the instructions given in the document? If you could not complete the test, what was the major block that prevented you from doing so?
I want to make sure that we have gone through everything in that document and ruled all factors there in or out. If it was a matter of you not understanding the instructions, I am hoping that the above will channel you questions to me so that I can clarify anything that you did not understand in the Adobe document instructions.
I do not recall if I asked previously. Even if you cannot open all your saved/closed projects, can you still open a new project and save/close it? Maybe even reopen it?
    Please review and consider.
    Thank you.

  • Unable to open iMovie project?

I made a simple iMovie 09 project and burned it to a DVD via iDVD.
Then, to save space on my HD, I moved the project to an external HD.
Now I want to go back to the project to make some edits.   But when took it out of the external HD and placed it on my desktop, I am unable to open it in iMovie.   I've tried simply clicking on the project icon as well as doing File>Import>Movie.  I also tried clicking and dragging the movie icon from the desktop to iMovie with no luck.  iMovie just doesn't see to want to recognize it.
    Can someone help?   Thanks?

    Hi
There are so many things to this.
    A. Flash drive - I even don't know if they would ever work - very doubtful
    B. External hard disks - MUST be Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted -
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most other things BUT NOT FOR VIDEO no matter if iMovie, iDVD or FinalCut is used.
    C. In the folder iMovie Projects - There are NO MOVIES - but text-documents related to the projects and this document points to the Raw material in iMovie Events folder and how it is supposed to be Played/Viewed in this particular project. e.g. play Clip A from 00:00:01:13 to 00:03:45:02 and so on. So there are no movies in the project folder.
    D. So if both iMovie Events and iMovie Projects folder are copied over to an external hard disk - Then the iMovie in the second Mac has no links to this and will not find it.
SO to be able to work with one project on two Macs - all moving's of Events and Projects should be done within the iMovie Application - Not on DeskTop/Finder - do not alter or move any folder named
    • iMovie Events
    • iMovie Projects
on DeskTop/Finder - as they can mess-up and be very hard to impossible to mend.
    Yours Bengt W

  • I am unable to open video files on this website.

When I click on video links of the following website--http://tubtub.com/--I receive an error message that reads as follows:
    "File not found
Firefox can't find the file at mms://TITLE.tubtub.com/.
Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors.
Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.
    Try Again"
I had initially seen a window that was named "Launch Application," which, seemingly, allowed one to choose an application by which to open the video links. I chose my VLC player to do this and checked a box to associate this "Launch application" window with the VLC player, but received an error message that VLC was unable to open the file that began with an "mms" URL. Then I was never able to get back to that "Launch application" window to select another application, such as Windows Media Player, Real Player, etc. I even tried uninstalling my Firefox browser and the VLC player and reinstalling them both, all to no avail.
Please explain how I may get these video links to play and the "Launch Application" window to open again. I recall having used TubTub.com successfully before.
    Thank you.

  • Unable To Open .prel Project

I'm running Premiere Elements 9.0.3 (PE9) on Windows 7. When I launch PE9, I get the "Welcome" window with the three options: "Organize", "New Project", and "Open Project". When I click on "Organize", I can see the ".avi" files that I’ve imported, and under the "Organize" tab, I can see my Video Projects (.prel files). However, when I click on "Open Project" on the "Welcome" window and then select any of the ".prel" files, none of these projects will open any longer. The small “Load Project” window is displayed and indicates that 100% of the project is loaded, but the PE9 window remains blank.  If I then attempt to open a second project from this PE9 window (File => Open Project...), then I get a pop-up window that contains the following error message: “Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.” When I click “OK” on this pop-up window, the same pop-up window appears again. When I click “OK” on this second pop-up window, Premiere Elements crashes and all of the windows close. (Note: I could open all of my “.prel” projects a couple of weeks ago -- I have no idea what changed.)

    BobEZ
First, there is no Premiere Elements 9.0.3 Update version of Premiere Elements 9. There is one for Photoshop Elements 9. So, I am assuming that the 9.0.3 was a typing error and that you meant to type 9.0.1 which is the required update for Premiere Elements 9.
There is an Adobe document on damaged projects that you might want to check out.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-projects-premiere-element s.html
But the first thoughts that come to mind on a problem such as this
    a. Have you moved or deleted any of the source media that went into any of these projects?
    b. Can you still open a new project in Premiere Elements 9.0.1?
    c. Is your video card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card? Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements, and are you running the program as Run As Administrator or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
    d. Have you tried to delete the Premiere Elements 9.0.1 settings file (Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs) found in the path (for Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit)
    Local Disc C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    9.0
and in the 9.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work to solve the problem, then delete the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exits. (Be aware that the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file (new) will be generated after you open Premiere Elements. Make sure that you are working with Folder Option Snow Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the whole path.
Let us rule in or out the above considerations. And, if necessary, we will go into your computer environment, including optimization and the possibility of pile ups of preview files and conformed video and audio files. Are the Scratch Disks directed to a hard drive space with enough free space to accept them?/
    More later.
    Thanks.

  • Unable to open X5 project

The project I work on is created with RoboHelp X5. One of my
clients is updating his own help for my project and uses RoboHelp6.
Now the project he just sent back to me won't open in RoboHelp X5
    anymore. I always get error:
"This project is from a newer version of the program. This
project is no longer compatible with this version. Please make sure
you have the newest version installed".
However I cannot upgrade to RoboHelp6 since other clients are
still using RoboHelp X5. Asking everyone to upgrade is not an
    option.
I also tried opening the "hhp" file instead of the "xpj"
file, but that also fails with the same error message. In addition
I then get the message "Unable to create database. Check that the
    directory is not read-only."
All the files are on the local disk of the PC (not on a
network drive) and the folders are writable.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Welcome to the forum.
Option 1] Hop over to PayPal and send me an obscene amount of
money! I'll come and fix it wherever you are.
Option 2] Delete the CPD file before opening the project from
the XPJ file. It will open and should be OK provided the client has
not done anything RH6 specific, like use variables. There's more
about this in the topic about Opening Projects on my site.
Are you aware that you can run both X5 and RH6 on the same
PC? You have to buy the full version of RH6, not the upgrade, but
    they work quite happily together.

  • Unable to open IMovie Project in IDVD

I have created a 40 minute movie in IMovie 08 (my first). I am unable to open the movie in IDVD 08 and Garage Band. The project name is visible in the media browser but is not available for selection.
I have published the movie to the media browser and it still is not available to IDVD.
I am new to apple computers and have been unable to get help with this problem.

    Here's two things to try:
This frequently helps solve some problems. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

  • Can't open video project--missing codecs and offline media

I tried opening a project in Elements 7 (old, I know), but it said that "this type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed." When I close the dialog box the project opens and the music is there, but the pictures and videos have been replaced with a red screen that says "media off-line." I tried opening a different project I created a few weeks ago and it opened just fine.  I store all my projects on an external hard drive.  Any thoughts on how I can get my video back?

    Great news!
CODEC's are a subject that could fill a good-sized book (and has), plus new ones, or heavily tweaked ones, appear almost quarterly, so that book would need to be updated every 3, or so, months. For general discussion on CODEC's, there is a link in that mentioned article, down a bit, and more detail is offered.
What often happens is that one will have many CODEC's installed on a computer, and much AV material is covered by those. Then, if the OS gets upgraded, or one moves to another computer, the list of installed CODEC's does not include one that is necessary. In those cases, knowing the exact CODEC required, is the first step (MediaInfo, or G-Spot will be helpful here), and then downloading (might be free, or for pay) and installing the required CODEC, will usually solve the issue - so long as one's NLE (Non Linear Editor) can use that CODEC. Many will just be a simple install and reboot, but some are quite specific, and might, or might not be useful for editing, depending on the NLE. An example of this is DivX, and Xvid, which can be used for playback, and DivX for Encoding out of PrE, but PrE usually does NOT edit material with either of those CODEC's, even if properly installed on a system.
Glad that you got it sorted out, and happy editing,
    Hunt

  • Unable to open PC projects on Mac

after double checking both versions are latest and greatest, i'm unable to open CC 2014 Premiere Pro PC projects on a Mac.
'...made on an incompatible version of Premiere.'
    PC - 8.2.0 (65) build, 2014.2 release.
    Mac - 8.0.1 (21) build 2014.0.1 release
    any thoughts? many thanks!

    Hi Nor_Cal,
OK, I can see how you might have some trouble here. You should look to IT for guidance on installing updates for your enterprise licensed software.
does that mean every time i want to update (something that's a feature in CC), i have to completely uninstall my suite and 'download' a new build from IT?
No. Typically, your IT department will package application updates for you to install. You can request an update package from them when an update is released or when IT decides that the update should be installed on your computer.
If you'd like to be proactive with your IT department, you can point them to Adobe updates for enterprise customers here: Creative Cloud for enterprise Updates | CCE Updates for IT Admins
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Unable to open/edit project in project professional form PWA(project server 2010)

i have been working perfectly and opening my projects with project professional from PWA
All of a sudden,i get this error: no permission to read enterprise global file when trying to edit my projects in project professional from the PWA
i have also tried opening the project from project professional directly and it says (you do not have sufficient permissions to  perform the requested action)
please what is the cause of this issue and what can i do to resolve it?

    Hello kehinde,
The cause of this problem is somebody changed something.
To resolve, I would clear out the cache to see if that resolves anything.
Then, I would reboot system and see if that resolves.
If still no go, then I would look into security settings, and start doing some detective work.  I keep a version of project server in a separate instance, that is completely out of the box, so I can have a reference point for settings.
If still not solution, then I would resave the global file settings.
    Cheers!

  • Unable to open MVC project in Visual Studio 2008

I started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through
DreamSpark ). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio.
However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Is there perhaps some way that I can edit
the project file so that it will load and compile correctly?
Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully. However, I notice that MVC references in my unit-test project don't seem to be resolved either - is this perhaps because MVC2 isn't actually installed
    properly?
