Unable to overclock GeForce 670

NVIDIA driver: 310.19
This card is factory clocked at 1000Mhz.
In linux, it is stuck at 705Mhz (under load, max performance).
I am unable to overclock this.
Is there a work around here?
Any input is appriciated.

I think that information that the nvidia driver is reporting is incorrect... I get better performance on Team Fortress 2 on Linux than Windows yet the driver shows on "Performance Level" 2 and 3 the "Graphics Clock" is 705 MHz and memory at 3004 MHz but on Windows I see higher "Graphics Clock" 1019MHz - 1228 MHz
While I think "Performance Level" 2 is correct... 3 isn't
I have a MSI GeForce GTX 670 Power Edition OC
I don't do overclocking

  • Overclocked GTX 670 Card

Is it worth getting an overclocked GTX 670 card compared to the standard card?  That is, will it have an significant effect with Premiere Pro, particularly with CUDA acceleration?
    Thanks

Differences will be marginal, so if the price difference is marginal too, it is worth it, if there is a clear difference in price and a hardly noticeable performance gain, then no. In this short list of 670 cards, the Palit and Gainward cards @1.006 GHz look attractive.
These last two choices are hardly more expensive than some other cards @ 915 MHz.
The performance gain will be best noticeable when you do a lot of MPEG2-DVD encoding from HD material (scaling), or do FPS adjustments (frame blending) on export, since both are accelerated and when you use Maximum Render Quality.

Will Adobe test and certify the Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 for use with the mercury playback engine GPU acceleration feature of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 in the near future? Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance for any help.

Adobe only certifies after extensive testing... For many others, with at least 1Gig of video ram, use the nVidia Hack http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629557 - which is a simple entry in a "supported cards" file - and Mac http://www.vidmuze.com/how-to-enable-gpu-cuda-in-adobe-cs6-for-mac/

The initial BIOS version(1.0) Overclocked just fine. But when I upgraded to the latest version of the BIOS(1.8/1.9) Problems began to appear. CPU FSB Frequency or CPU Ratio could not be modified even with +1Mhz , If do so save and exit bios restart system for the first time during Windows7 starting process after microsoft logo appear then suddenly blue screen then restart the system and bad things happened.CPU Fan running at full speed nothing shows on monitor‎,That's right The same situation with overclocking failure But this time reboot the system three times save system form failed overclocking mechanism won't work the only option is to Clear CMOS.After Cleared CMOS enter the BIOS Cell menu this time CPU Ratio shows 60.

  • Unable to overclock i5 2500k

Last night I updated BIOS to the latest version which brought back the voltage control again. After doing the normal CMOS and default settings restore, I applied my OC again and tested it. It worked fine. Today I wanted to give lower voltages a try so I bumped them down a little, but when I entered windows this time I found that the overclock had not been applied. I've tried everything, it just won't overclock anymore. No matter what I put the multiplier on it remains at 3,3GHz and I've confirmed it with CPU-Z, 3DMark11 and RealTemp. I've tried restoring defaults and reseting CMOS again but that doesn't help either.
    Help me!
    My board is MSI P67A-C45.

I managed to fix the problem somehow, although I'm not sure how... In any case it runs like it should now.

  • My K8n neo2 wont overclock at all!! plz help...

Hi, I just build my new machine, and after much problems I finally have it up and running at stocks speeds just fine, the problem is that I spent a lot of money buying Top-Brand components so I could overclock a lot, (I like It) but I cant seem to go upweard of 205FSB!! anything above that and the board wont boot at all forcing me to clear the Cmos!! I find this completely unaceptable for this board, being that my last board (an Msi one with nforce2) could overclock and athlon XP 2500+ barton all the way up to a 2800+!! Im really dissapointed at this, if someone could give me a few pointers as to what tweak in the bios (Im using 1.3 right now) it will be very thankful!!  ok, my specs are below, thanks!!
    Athlon64 3500+ socket 939
    Msi k8N Neo2 Platinum with 1.3bios
    2+512mb Crucial Ballistix pc3200 cl2
    BFG Nvidia Geforce 6800Gt
    36gb Raptor Hdd
    Enermax 420W power supply
    Thanks!!!

I think your problem is your power supply. Check what that MAX amp on your 12V rail.
I have nearly the exact same setup as you do and was unable to overclock the memory without lowering the memory timings much earlier than I expected too. For me I'm able to raise my FSB up to 207 at 2-2-2 timings. The max overclock I achieved was 220 X11 at 2.5-3-3 for a speed of 2420mghz. But it was not completly stable (it would bout but would lock up while gamming).  I had expected much better results than this... I bought good memory (Ballistix pc4000) I had a good 480W power supply... my processors ceilling should be around 2.6ghz. After reading this review on Anand Tech I think I found the answer... Athlon 64 Memory: Rewriting the Rules
On page 10 they make the remark that their Antec True Power 465W power suply was limiting their ability to overclock memory.... The Antec True Power is rated to supply 22A on the 12v rail. My power supply is only rated to supply 18A.  I bet your 420W is rated even less.
After reading that I fiddled with async overclocking and was stable up to 230FSB... then my hard drive freaked out... I was using sata port 1. I moved the hard drive to SATA port 4, but haven't tried much overclocking since.  Maybe if they put out a bios revision that I can adjust the HT on I'll try again. Until them I'm settled for running at 2277mghz.

  • NEOFis2r NO Overclock

    OK
Here is the problem. On arrival, I was unable to overclock my board with 1.2 BIOS in the BIOS. It appears to overclock, but when you check in Windows, indeed it is NOT. If I use the Core Center, I was able to overclock just fine, until I enabled Hyperthreading. Now even the core center will not overclock the board. I did an uninstall, and reinstall of Core Center and still no luck.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

    Leroy
I can sure understand where you are coming from, however, this board was and still is advertised as a fully functioning board. NOT a beta product. I will not "flash back" because this board CAME with 1.2.
I have no issues doing BIOS upgrades for performance improvements, etc., but this is a board that does not function. MSI has my money, and took it without bothering to tell me that the product did not work.
If I were impatient for a new feature, your comments to me would be justified, however I refuse to "wait around" for what was advertised to work, and just plain doesn't work.
You have no way of actually knowing if any of these issues will ever be fixed, you are only hoping they will be addressed. From what I have read, there has not even been a single post from MSI about these issues.
For me to get my money back from my distributor, I HAVE to return this board by this Wednesday. I contacted the MSI rep. personally on Friday about my problems, and have yet to get any sort of answer. In fact he played dumb to the whole issue.
Sooo what are we left with (from my perspecticve)
    1. Onboard sound mike input is crap
    2. cant O/c from the BIOS
    3. Cant o/c from the Core Center (After hyperthreading is enabled)
    4. Fans stop running when using the core center
    5. System hangs on boot at random
    6. BIOS 1.3 was released then mysteriously PULLED, with no explaination
    7. 1.4 apparantly still is killing boards.
    8. System temps are way off
    9. 2 days until I am STUCK with this POS

Ah, there is more than meets the eye to it.
I recently newly installed Windows 8.1, why didn't it auto install it to GPT? I'm not gonna do a reinstall right away to test if it's working.
btw: what about GPT and SSD trim? It thought that didn't get along well?
btw 2: Is this particular thing also related to the fact that I can't enable the "Windows 8 feature" in the bios and so also not "Secure Boot"? With it enabled the PC won't go to Windows and keeps hanging on some black/yellow letter UEFI screen...

  • GeForce MX 440SE flickers/flashes...

I just got a MSI MS-8847 GeForce 4 MX440SE-T. Put it in and I am quite
satisfied with the performance (coming from an overclocked GeForce DDR). The
thing is that while in Windows it will randomly flicker/flash to a black or
black/white line looking screen for a split second every once in a while.
Not quite sure what could be causing it. Any ideas? Thanks.

    2x WD 20 gig HDD
    CL 6x DVD6240E
    Samsung CD-RW SW-248F

    Something interesting...
I returned the card to exchange it for another, thinking it was defective... They were out of MSI cards so I got a Chaintech 440SE card. Took it home and it did the same thing.
I just swapped the 440SE for my girlfriend's Ti4200 and it does the same thing (yes, the Ti4200 was so I could play games on her new computer, lol). That pretty much rules out the video card being the problem...
I'm thinking maybe a motherboard/chipset issue with the GeForce 4 line of cards... I remember an old issue with the original GeForce cards (as well as LX and early BX chipset boards) was not enough power to the AGP port. Also went hand-in-hand with cheap power supplies. I'm sure that's not the case with me though, as I bought a 450 watt Enermax for exactly that reason, instability when overclocking after I got the GeForce.
The issue with GeForce cards was mainly with early AMD 760 motherboards (like the one I had when I got my GeForce), where the AMD board wasn't giving a clean enough power supply to the cards to make them work properly, resulting in lockups. With BIOS revisions most boards would work at AGP 1x with no SBA or Fast Writes...
In any case, what I'm getting at is what chipset do you have on your motherboard? Mine is a KT266. Perhaps it's an issue with that chipset or a series of VIA chipsets.
Either way, I have not tried it without my RAID card in, as my RAID runs my system partition. I do have a spare 2 GB drive I was gonna put in an old system, but before I do that maybe I can put it in this system and put 2k on it to test if it's the RAID or not.
Glad to know someone else has this issue, hopefully we can narrow it down and figure out where the blame lies.

  • Please help - performance issues with Lr 2.3

I really hope some user/s or Adobe support members could help me with tweaks/suggestions to improve Lightroom 2.3's sluggish performance on my computer.
First of all I have read about 100 different forum topics this morning, have used the forum search extensively and I cannot find any one topic which talks about different methods for improving performance. So I really have tried to find the answer before asking for help and I have done a lot of googling to try and find some simple answers but after all this reading I am more confused than when I started out.
Let me first explain what I am experiencing and I will try and be as detailed as possible.
1 - When I browse the library it is incredibly slow rendering the thumbnail previews. I found a topic which talked about degfragging the LR catalog using sqlite and contig, I did that and it made no difference to performance.
2 - I left my machine running an entire day to render the 1:1 previews thinking this would help me with the slow thumbnail issues but it made no difference. It is however faster now when I double click and image and get the immediate 1:1 preview :)
3 - I have turned off the Automatically write changes into XMP, suggested on another topic, that made no noticeable differences to performance either.
4 - A few months ago when I was still running 2.1 I found a topic either here or on Google that told me to delete the entire previews folders and let LR recreate them from scratch, I did that back then and that did not make any difference either, turned out to be 24 hours of waste time for me.
5 - I tried changing the following settings under catalog settings (has not improved anything):
    size: 2048 Pixels
    quality: High
    automatically discard 1:1 previews: Never
6 - The only slow performance I am experiencing in LR is the thumbnails and this slows down my workflow dramatically. Everything else in LR seems to be quite fluid and usable and fast. I notice many users have complained about the slow thumbnails issues and I was praying that 2.3 was going to sort this out.
7 - I have also noticed that when scrolling up and down the thumnail list it sometimes uses more than 1 processing core and then sometimes not and then when I stop scrolling up and down the thumbnails and leave it alone for 5 seconds suddenly all 8 processing cores spike to around 50% usage with processing "something".
8 - I have tried making my thumbnail previews different sizes, also makes no difference really, unless I go to the smallest size and then it seems ok but then it's hard to see what's going on at all with thumbnails that small.
9 - Lightroom is only using up 1.1 GB of available memory so I do no think the slowness relates to memory and I am running my memory in a proper DDR3 configuration.
10 - I have tried playing with my graphics card settings (below) but it does not seem to help no matter what I try.
11 - Overall it "seems" that Lightroom is trying to re-render thumbnails continously, I know technically this may not be true but as an end user this is how it feels to me.
My computer specifications are as follows:
Intel i7 965 Extreme Edition (not overclocked)
    Intel DX58 Smackover Motherboard
    6GB DDR3 Ram (not overclocked)
GEForce 9800GT Video Card (with WHQL driver)
    SATA 2 1TB Seagate Drives
    Windows Vista X64 (SP1)
    Lightroom 2.3 X64
NEC 30" Display running at 2560x1600 resolution
The way I have LR configured on my PC is as follows:
    - Program files installed on main C drive which is a 250GB partition on a 1TB Seagate Sata 2 drive with 190 GB Free space all the time.
    - Lightroom catalog is on my E drive which is a 1TB Seagate Sata 2 drive
    - Camera Raw Cache is set at 10GB and resides on the same E drive as the LR catalog
    - My E drive has 100GB Free Space
    - I have tried tweaks to the video card settings to be Lightroom spe

    Hi Don
Thanks for the reply, I have tried changing any/all settings on the card set to performance versus quality and still it has no effect. I just got the latest video driver for the GT9800 which was released on the 3rd of March and that has no effect either. I tried loading the 32 bit version of Lightroom without any improvement to speed on the thumbnails whatsoever so that rules out the possibility of it being something to do with 64-bit.
I read an Adobe knowledgebase article saying that the Nvidia control panel conflicts with certain Adobe software but they do not say how to turn it off and I also cannot even find the answer to that on Nvidia's forums either. So I still cannot say whether or not the Nvidia control panel is the problem because I cannot disable it.
I phoned a friend this morning who is running Lightroom 2.3 on a simple Core-2 Duo machine and his thumbnails render in half the time that mine do and my hardware is top of the range stuff in comparison so you can imagine my frustration with this thumbnailing issue. My friend also has an Nvidia card 8800GT I think.
I have spent so much time on this and I am no further to a solution and this blurry thumbnail issue is seriously messing with my eyes and it does not make for a very pleasant user experience.
What concerns me is that while Lightroom is idle and the machine is idle Lightroom is not doing anything in the background like rendering thumbnails. It only starts rendering them once I scroll down a page, no doubt by design but for more powerful machines there is a lot of processing ability going unused. The thumbnails on the filmstrip render a lot faster compared to grid view but their rendering state is also not retained and once I have scrolled past 100 images and then scroll back they are all blurry again and I have to wait for them re-render all over again. All this re-rendering of thumbs is a really big waste of time.
I also noticed something else interesting this morning, I opened task manager and left it open while I was scrolling thumbnails (continuous scrolling without waiting for them to render sharp) and only one core was being used to do this processing, I tested this multiple times and left it open while I scrolled through 5000+ images and only one core the whole time was being used. Only once I stopped scrolling and Lightroom began it's rendering of the thumbnails (about 10-15 seconds after stopping scrolling) did it only then start using multiple processors, I'm not sure if that has something to do with anything and memory wise I have 4.2 GB of available memory and Lightroom is only using about 425 Mb of memory.
I have changed the size of my thumbnails to below halfway on the slider and that made only a slight difference, although now they are so small on this 30" screen that I am now suffering even more eye strain as a result.
I am busy loading LR 1.x to confirm whether any of these behaviours existed back then and will report back.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 - Bug Report

Just thought I'd report on a ton of bugs that hit me after using CC 2014 on a project though I have no idea what is causing any of them except most likely the underlying Mercury and/or Lumetri Deep Color Engines.
The BIGGEST ISSUE was FLICKERING, most of the other bugs happened in trying to find a way around it. Seemed to experience these problems on two different computers.
Computer 1: Windows 7, Geforce 670 (from memory)
    Computer 2: Windows 8, Geforce 750M
Workflow: 3 minute HD music video edited in PP mainly using multicam, direct link grade in Speed Grade utilising the new master clip and clip grade, effects (Red Giant's Universal's diffuse glow, glimmer and Knoll Light Factory, plus RGB curves) and overlays then applied in Premiere with a couple of shots sent to AE for object removal.
    Bugs:
Applying perhaps a range of effects seem to results in the image flickering (tried rendering it in software, CUDA and OpenCL engines) and oddly enough only in the second half even though the clips where at same location, same take, same effects and lighting. Often removing the Universal diffuse glow or glimmer effect seem to remove the flicker though the odd clip that didn't have it applied would also randomly flicker so seems like the render engine is freaking out.
At one stage the export resulted in white flashes and even effects not being applied and randomly appearing on/off.
Another time on export the effects were applied but the footage disappeared entirely
Anti-flicker under the motions tab would not remember/display it's value upon loading, displaying 0.00
Anti-flicker on export if perhaps adjusted again after loading the project produced pure RED image on export
Sending a clip to After Effect from Premiere often would not render in Premiere (would produce error, blank or crash) so I had to render proxies in After Effects for it to come across into Premiere. Never had to do this in the previous version of CC.
Overlaying footage and using Screen resulted in a darker image on one clip, maybe something to do with Lumetri applied to a master or independent clip and the order in which effects are being calculated.
Premiere crashed often, usually if it was struggling to display image and then you tried to follow up with commands, move the timeline position or save for instance
Premiere if it didn't crash occasionally it would have laggy play back, and this was just trying to play a single DNxHD clip with no effects applied in a native timeline.
If you need any more information to help fix these bugs let me know and I'll attempt to deliver.

Adobe, I can't believe you're so out of touch on this issue that you are telling people to try removing curves effect. At this point I'm beginning to think that you are deliberately misleading people to downplay this issue. We have told you multiple times that we are a studio with 5 editing stations, all different configurations and graphics cards, and have experienced the issue on several projects and varying levels. This is a MAJOR bug that is crippling business everywhere, that you can read about on several forums, and you are still tell people to 'try removing curves'. For simple edits that don't use many effects, no problems (which is why there are not more complaints because must people do simple edits). As soon as you pile on colorgrading and effects the flickering starts.
For the rest of you folks trying to get through this, don't waste your time like we did trying to self diagnose the problem removing/changing effects and trying different combos. It will go away one minute, only to randomly return the next. The ONLY true solution we have found is to go back to CC pre 2014. For those of you in mid-project, that means rendering out your work now, maybe without effects if you have to, and start over.
Don't waste your time trying 'removing curves' like Adobe has suggested.

I hope someone out here can help me as I'm having a similar problem upgrading to 13.1.2.  I posted this under the wrong section about a week ago, so I'm reposting my issues here for convenience.  I'm a Creative Cloud user.  I have been using the 64-bit version of Photoshop 13.0.x on my system successfully for several months now.  I have Windows 7, 3rd gen (Ivy Bridge) core i7 processor, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB Hard Drive, and am using an NVIDIA GeForce 670 video card.... so my system has plenty of processing power.  Several nights ago, my Adobe application manager pops up on start up (as normal whenever there's app updates to be done) and says there's an update available for Photoshop (version 13.1.2, I think.. or something close to it, anyway) and Bridge.  So, as normal, I apply the updates... Everything completely successfully according to the Applicatino Manager.  However, when I try to start photoshop after the update, I get this window that pops up immediately upon double-clicking the Photoshop 64-bit icon on my desktop: "Adobe Photoshop cannot run on this computer because this version of Photoshop requires Windows 7 or later."  All I can do is "X" out the box to make it go away, so I did.  Weird because obviously I have Windows 7 and all of my other software works great on my system, and I have Lightroom 4.3, other Adobe stuff, Serif software, ACDSee, etc... and I get no problems out of ANY of them running on my officially licensed version of Windows 7.  So just for the heck of it, I uninstalled Photoshop completely and then reinstalled it using the Adobe Application Manager.  It installs version 13.0, which then allows me to open and use Photoshop as normal.  I proceed to "check for updates" from within the program, and it takes me to 13.0.2 I believe.  I can use Photoshop as normal after that.   Here's what I think is funny... I can check for updates to my heart's content after updating to 13.0.x.  The program thinks there's no updates available after 13.0.x.  The only way my system knows there's a later version out there is if I power down my system and restart it.  Then and only then will Adobe Application Manager come up and tell me there's an update available (13.1.2) which, if I chooose to install (and I did), takes me back to the error that I mentioned earlier: "Adobe Photoshop cannot run on this computer becuse this version of Photoshop requires Windows 7 or later".  Soooo with all of this said... DOES ANYONE know how the updated version of Photoshop (13.1.2) for Creative Cloud Subscribers checks to see if it's running on a Windows 7 system?  For whatever reason, it doesn't think I have Windows 7 after updating to it, and I'm stuck!  I know if I contact Adobe Support, they're going to want to uninstall ALL of my Adobe software of which I have alot, and then reinstall everything... and quite frankly, I think all that is a bunch of crap!  It's plain and simple... Photoshop works BEFORE the update, and will not open due to this error AFTER the update, so there's some issue with the updating procedure that causes Photoshop to not recognize my Windows 7 system, and I just pray that SOMEBODY out there might be able to help me change some setting on my system that will cause Photoshop 13.1.2 to actually work!
UPDATE: I decided to check the 32-bit version of 13.1.2, and it works!  So it looks like this error is limited to the 64-bit version.  That just makes no sense at all to me.
    UPDATE # 2:
I followed Jeff Wright's advice about checking the installation error log.  I had no errors... An error log doesn't even exist in my case.  The funny thing is that the 32-bit version works beautifully!  After reading this thread,  I thought that the problem might be related to my video card driver.  Although I don't see any logic to that, I decided to go out to the NVIDIA website and update my driver.  The driver I had was only 3 months old.  Anyway, I did it.  I then uninstalled Photoshop using the Windows 7 uninstall program utility and reinstalled Photoshop.  I get the same error message when I try to run the 64-bit version of 13.1.2.. something to the effect of "this computer must be running Windows 7 to run this program."  However, the 32-bit version loads and works perfectly.  Since I'm now at my wit's end, I decided to uninstall Photoshop again, but this time using the REVO uninstaller utility hoping that somehow that the Windows uninstaller wasn't working correctly.  I completely uninstalled it, reinstalled it using Adobe Application Manager and get the same results.  As long as I stay at 13.0.x, Photoshop works fine in both the 32-bit AND 64-bit editions, but as soon as I using Adobe Application Manager to update to 13.1.2, the 64-bit program won't run.  I just don't understand how the 32-bit version will run perfectly, but the 64-bit version won't.  THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY !!!

I hope someone out here can help me.
