Unable to pass microphone audio to speakers

I've been googling for an hour or so now but I'm unable to pass audio going into the mic to the speakers, I've my amp with a guitar hooked up and want to be able to hear what I'm playing through my speakers.
I've checked in the systems preferences where the input is boosted up, and also in Audo MIDI Setup where I'm unable to check the box for "thru"
If I've to use garageband for this it's fine. Please notice that recording works perfectly fine.

Usually your sound input isn't redirected to your output, because for most users they are using a mic and this could create feedback. Since you are using your guitar amp to feed the audio to the input this of course won't happen to you - but there's no normal way to redirect your audio input to your audio output. There is a solution though.
The app Soundflower allows you to redirect your input and output to different devices, including pointing either at the other. It's free, and you can download it here:
http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower
I used this on my first generation Mac mini (with no regular audio input jack) to record sounds playing on my system. Works absolutely great.

  • Unable microphone audio input into iMovie HD

    Well, I can import audio from an external Mike (iMic) that records to iMovie, plays in imovie playback, can drag to desktop and play in Quicktime, can record into GarageBand - BUT WILL NOT PLAYBACK THROUGH THE DV RECORDER OR RECORD...%$#$#@$ There is just no audio there. Importing CD audio from iTunes works fine. Recording into GarageBand works fine, but when I transfer that file to iTunes and then import to iMovie same thing ... no audio ...
    I've wasted all afternoon trying to figure out why not. Any suggestions?? I have to have audio dub for the project I'm working on...
    Also, I have the same audio "click" glitch with transitions that I'm seeing in the discussions ... and I haven't figured that one out either.

    Spent an hour on the phone w. a "product specialist" at Apple who decided the problem must be w. my DV deck (SONY DHR-1000 .... not sure how he concludes that the deck can simply not receive the microphone audio when everything else comes through OK ... this never happened w. iMovie 4 ... only since switching to iMovie 5.
    Also, see new entry ref. glitches and "pops" in audio w. transitions in iMovie 5 ... still trying to solve that mystery and the product specialist blames it on my video since we can put transitions between iPhoto stills and iTune music without the glitches.

  • Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

    Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
    The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
    Instructive documentation - not very good.
    Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
    Could use timer tracking of the record process.
    Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

    That is an issue for the developer of that Download Helper.

  • Unable to make microphone to work on NVIDIA MCP55 onboard sound card

    Hello.
    Some time ago, I bought a nice HP xw9400 Workstation (with Dual Core AMD Opteron  2216) from Germany. Despite it's starting to become old by today's standards for some stuff like gaming, it's still quite okay to use and the SAS HDD makes it boot fastly. And it has one of the best cases, you can plug PCI/PCIe/PCI-X cards very easily and it's very nice to change or add HDDs. Maybe I'll upgrade the CPUs (I can upgrade the bios and it seems it can support better CPUs) if I find them on eBay or other place.
    I have less problems with Arch than the rest of distributions, but I still have weird issues. Despite my computer hardware is somewhat old, I still experience weird problems everywhere (it seems I have some kind of weird "luck").
    I have problems using my microphone under Arch with "NVIDIA Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)" onboard sound card , here is the relevant info.

    Sorry, that was wrong, I meant
    arecord -l
    Have you tried making a virtual loopback device like above and using
    arecord -vv -fdat out.wav
    You should see the #### fluctuate as you speak into the mic. If not, then unmute and turn up your mic in alsamixer. That loopback device will allow you to capture your sound card and hear it at the same time. Another way to do it is to use a jumper from line out to line in on your sound device. You won't be able to hear it while you record though.
    If your sound device works, then you can capture what's going through it. You'll need to determine which vitual device your mic is.
    Example
    arecord -l

  • Unable to record just audio with Mac Mini - no isight

    I am trying to use Podcast Capture on a mac mini connected to a generic monitor (no isight) and it is unable to initialize the audio subsystem. I am assuming this has to do with it needing a video camera, but surely that isn't required to record an audio only podcast. I have a microphone plugged into the line in and it works successfully in Garageband. Please help!

    Take a look at Soundflower, which will allow you to record audio from any source:

  • No Microphone Audio L305D-S5881

    Despite updates of the drivers I cannot get any microphone audio on my L305-S5881 Satellite Laptop.  Webcam works fine.

    Contact Dell Technical Support. Explain the issue and troubleshooting we have tried. Tell them to setup a "Part Only Service" to send you the Dell Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D PCIe x1 sound card, part number 0DR8F. Read through the XPS 8700 Owner's Manual for instructions on how to remove the left side cover and install the PCIe x1 sound card.
    * Download and save the Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D driver to your windows desktop
    * Once you receive the sound card, restart the XPS 8700
    * Press F2 to enter the bios
    * Go to Advanced
    * Go to Onboard Device Configuration
    * DISABLE the Onboard Audio Controller
    * Press F10 to Save and Exit
    * Allow the XPS 8700 to boot all the way into Windows
    * Click Start- Shutdown- Shutdown- Ok
    * Disconnect the power cord from the XPS 8700
    * Facing the front, lay the tower on its right side
    * Remove the left side cover by removing the thumb screw
    * Install the PCIe x1 sound card into an available PCIe x1 slot on the motherboard. Be sure it clicks into place
    * Close the cover
    * Stand the XPS 8700 up
    * Reconnect the power cord
    * Power the XPS 8700 on
    * Install the PCIe x1 sound card driver
    * Restart the XPS 8700
    * Connect the speakers to the green jack, the microphone to the pink jack

    Ok, got it really sorted.  Don't know why it's like this by default though.  Had to mute the front mic (the one I'm using) and enable capture.  Done.  Phew, somewhat odd.

  • Unable to Pass Parameters to I5Grid in SAP MII 14.0 SP05

    Hi Experts,
    There was a bug in SAP MII 14.0 SP04  where we were unable to pass parameters to I5Grid dynamically. I understand that this bug has been fixed in SP05 , so we applied following patches:
    Patches installed :
    a)      XMII05P_4-10008694.SCA
    b)      XMII05_0-10008694.SCA
    Note details mentioning this issue :
    2016927 - I5Grid does not take into account overridden parameters when updateGrid(true) is called
    But even after applying these patches, I am still not able to pass parameters to I5Grid dynamically from irpt page.  Does anyone have any insight to it? Is it working for any one of you?
    Regards,
    Kirti

    Hi Chirstian,
    I see this change working. I was doing a mistake while passing parameter to I5grid.
    What I was doing-
    Grid.getQueryObject().setParameter(1, linename);
    Correct Way:
    Grid.getQueryObject().setParameter("Param.1", linename);
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kirti

  • [SOLVED]Sound issue - xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers.

    When I booted this morning the computer showed that arts died and blabla messages, and when I started Amarok I got this nasty error that I occasionally get when I am not in the 'audio' group:
    xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers.
    But I am in the audio group and everything used to work yesterday
    I will post logs and versions later, just to see if it is some common issue or not.

    But if I want to pass the value of the owner in cursor , I am unable to pass this value through unix.
    Following the procedure which i am trying to implement.
    create or replace procedure OWNER.PRC_TESTING_OWNER(OWNER IN VARCHAR2) IS
    v_owner varchar2(100) := owner;
    CURSOR main_cur IS
      select
      i.ROWID  rid ,
      emp_name,
      deptid
      from v_owner.employee;
    CURSOR subset_cur(c_deptid NUMBER ) IS
        SELECT *
          FROM v_owner.DEPT d
          where  d.dept_id=c_deptid;
    --##main loop
    FOR i IN main_cur LOOP
          FOR j IN subset_cur(i.deptid) LOOP
    BEGIN
    insert into v_owner.RESULT_TABLE
    END;
    END LOOP;
    END LOOP;How can i pass parameter value of the stored procedure through unix script(that is "owner" in this case), when these parameter value is
    used in cursor? :(
    Can anybody help me regarding the same?
    Thanks in Advance !! :D

    It's not the parameter in the cursor that is the problem, it's that you are trying to use static SQL for something that won't be known until run time (the owner of the table).
    You would need to use something like ...
    declare
       l_owner        varchar2(30) := 'SCOTT';
       l_ref_cursor   sys_refcursor;
       type l_ename_tab is table of scott.emp.ename%type;
       l_ename_array  l_ename_tab;
    begin
       open l_ref_cursor for
          'select ename
          from ' || l_owner || '.emp';
       loop
          fetch l_ref_cursor bulk collect into l_ename_array limit 10;
          exit when l_ename_array.COUNT = 0;
          for x in 1 .. l_ename_array.count
          loop
             dbms_output.put_line(l_ename_array(x));
          end loop;
       end loop;
       close l_ref_cursor;
    end;

  • CP4 Microphone audio saturating/overdriving/clipping my recording

    I've been using CP4 for over 1.5 years.  Using xp professional on work pc and Vista on home PC.
    When I record audio it has always automatically ajusted my volume when setting the microphone level. I then record and playback/edit.  Sometime I insert audio into the original recording - no problems.
    2 days ago I tried recording.  The audio was overdriving and distorting the recorded audio wave file.  When I looked at my microphone audio settings via Contro panel>audio settings -  it was pegged at maximum
    No matter how softly I speak, it overdrives and clipps the recorded audio file.  If I try and insert additional audio into a previous recording, It completly saturates the wave.
    I try the same thing on my personnel PC with CP4 and everything works fine.  I can import audio that I record on my personnel pc back to my work pc, and it imports and plays just  fine, but if I try to re-edit and insert additional audio into it - completly saturates the audio recording file.
    Questions: What happened to cause this?
    If I record in Adobe presenter or Soundbooth on the work pc, everything works OK.
    Somehow the CP4 audio recordings are getting screwed up.
    Should I reinstall the SW?  Haven't tried that yet, but need some help.
    I went back to figure out what SW i had loaded since the last project.  I loaded Skype and it worked fine.  I also enabled my webcam and it worked fine.  I also added skype to my Vista pc and everything worked fine.  I re-recorded CP4 audio after installing the webcam and skype on my vista pc and it worked fine.
    I uninstalled skype on my work pc, it did not fix problem.  Outside of un-installing CP4 and re-installing can anyone give me advice?
    Thanks:
    Thanks
    John

    Interesting....... as always.

    I am unable to transfer my audio book from my Mac laptop to my iPhone.  Can anyone help me?

    Then restore from you Mac laptop's backup, if you have not been backing up then you may be in for a very painful lesson on why backing up is the VERY FIRST thing you should do with any new Mac. Create a backup plan and use it on a regular basis. If the laptop was using 10.5.x or later then you have absolutely no excuse for not backing up. Sorry for being terse and blunt but Time Machine has been built into 10.5.x, 10.6.x and 10.7.x so we have had years to have a seamless and mindless method of backing up. If you have been using an earlier verision of OS X there are quite a number of methods of backing up.
    If you aren't successful then take the laptop and iMac to your local Apple Store or AASP and they may be able to help you recover your contacts.

    I am unable to burn mp3 audio files to cd.Every time it says failed due to media write error.I have tried different speeds.Can anyone help pls?

    There are several different incompatible media sold as writeable CDs. You MUST match the media to the abilities of your drive.
    I was flummoxed by buying 8x media when my drive was a 2x drive. I needed the other type, and there was nothing helpful in the diagnostics or the packaging that helped me understand that.
    EDIT: There is an interesting helpful feature buried in System Profiler ... (read the last two lines of the report):

  • Built in audio output (speakers) are playing through different channels.

    My built in audio output (speakers) are playing through different channels. How do I make them both play through the same channel? It has something to do with the audio midi setup. When i click "Configure Speakers" on th Built-In Output I don't get the option of "-" for which channel the audio should go out of, I just get "1" or "2" as an option. This happens when i select them to be both stero and multichannel speakers. Any ideas on how to fix it?

    Is there a red light glowing inside the jack? It sounds like a faulty jack. Read this:
