Unable to play 1080p HD videos smoothly? "Possible Solutions".

Have you read many similar issues of people running into problems viewing 1080p HD or higher videos once they upgraded to OS X Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite? Have you read that once they reverted back to Snow Leopard everything played fine again? That may be true, but such a headache! Before going through all of that hassle, you may first want to try something else before ruling out the latest operating system is the main cause for your mac slowing down. Your RAM cache could be the main culprit.
After exhausting all research and options I thought were available, I decided to finally call Apple tech support. Since I thought this was an issue after upgrading to operating systems beyond Snow Leopard, after hearing many others experiencing the same issue after upgrading to mountain lion or mavericks, I assumed it was the new OS X causing this slow down. Anyhow, I got connected with a tech support for free based on this issue happening after the OS X upgrades as far as I was aware of. We walked through a "screen share" on how I can free up RAM usage that might help speed things up a bit and help video display in 1080p work more smoothly; sure enough this helped a lot!
So if you're reading this and have experienced similar issues, there's no need for upgrading your ram if possible "just yet", and no need to revert back to snow leopard either "just yet". The cache in your library folders is more than likely the culprit, causing cluttered extra unnecessary things to run in the background and doing a "P RAM reset" and clearing out 2 different library cache folders on your system (should) clear things up like new again. If not, then you may need to upgrade your ram or have the graphics card or processor looked at b a technician to make sure those are running smoothly.
First I want to thank Kim the tech support representative for walking me through this, it helped a lot!
Here are the steps you'll first need to take to clear your ram and cache.
1. need to shut down your computer
2.hold down the option/command/P/R keys before you start up your macbook pro again. You'll see it restart and hear the bong chime again, then release all keys knowing you reset your RAM.
3. click on your desktop, then go to the GO menu for your system, then click on "Computer" on the drop down menu, followed by "Library" then "Cache" folder. select all and empty all contents of that folder into the trash.
4.Go to your "Finder" menu Hold down "option" key then scroll over to "Go" menu, you'll see the hidden library folder. Click on that library folder, then click on the cache folder, select all and empty all contents in that folder to the trash.
5. You'll need to reset your computer again before you can empty all contents in the trash.
6. try watching 1080p or larger videos on youtube or on your desktop again, you should be able to watch those high resolution videos again just fine, unless your RAM size is  too low, then you may need a RAM upgrade, or you may want to have your graphics card looked at to see if everything is working properly on it.

I think my settings are fine... and I've waited for the entire trailer to finish downloading so that I'm not streaming it. It's playing a local file. Did you play it on your iMac or MBP?
If some MBPs are able to play the clip and others aren't perhaps the issue is with my hardware.
ewww,
I did consider that the trailer itself is defective... I noticed that the bitrate on that particular trailer is quite a bit higher than normal at around 12mbits/s, compared to the norm of around 7-8. However to my knowledge at least, 12mbits/s should not be outside the realm of possibility on these machines.
In any case, I continue to anticipate the results from other MBP owners. I'd like to try to ascertain whether this is a software/firmware issue or whether something is amiss with my hardware.

    Hello ak_kanan,
    Welcome to the forums.
Try doing the following. In the browser swipe down from the top and choose Settings, now choose Content, here where it says Enable Flash change this to Off.  Now try going to the website that was not working (it will not work again this is fine) Once on the page swipe down from the top again and this time enable the Flash setting. Now reload the page and test to see if you have the same issue.

  • HT3209 Cannot play 1080p HD videos from iTunes. Anyone got any ideas?

I have a AMD 6 core @ 2.8 GHz, 16 GB of RAM and a Geforce GT 640 with HDCP support, but still cannot play 1080p HD videos from iTunes. Anyone got any ideas?
According to the hardware requirements, my system well exceeds them, but no joy!

UPDATE:  I backed up my phone, wiped it (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings), & then restored it through iTunes.  For whatever reason, that seems to have fixed the problem.  Movies now sync to my phone like they used to.
That process seems to have corrected 1 or 2 other minor issues, including one where iTunes was 'syncing artwork' for a long time on every sync.

  • Satellite C50-A-15L: unable to play music or video files via media player

    Hi all
I am having problems with my media player and explorer functions all of a sudden - it seems to have occured after a recent 'important update' (always causes more issues than fixes).
Anyway, since this update, I have been unable to play any music or video files via the media player or cut and paste any items when sorting files out.
All fine previously, but now when I highlight and click 'cut', the timer cuts in and the window goes straight to 'not responding'. Drag and drop works OK, then going back to delete files.
As for media files, double click one and no response, right click and 'open', again, nothing...
    Anyone else experienced similar problems?
Of know of a fix or patch?
    Many thanks
    Matt

From my point of few you have no problems with notebook but with Microsoft system.
    "Hotmail" isnt Toshiba product.
If you have problems login the Hotmail account, you should contact the Microsoft support for help.
By the way: you can always set the system back to early time point before you received any updates.
Windows 8 creates a restore point for you automatically during Windows Updates and other system maintenance events.
Open charm bar (Win key + c), choose Apps and search for Restore Point. Then click on Settings. On the left hand side you will see the option called Create a restore point.
New window would open. Within the System Protection tab choose System restore.
Clicking on Next would lead to next step where you could restore the computer to the sate it was before the selected event (windows update).

Songs and videos show and show that plays, but the time or the marker does not move at all, songs and videos don't play, also unable to transfer podcast or videos to my iphone, i'm running the newer itunes version 7.4.2.4.

Anything else to your setup? Any audio interfaces (if so, disconnect them and see if the marker moves)? Any plugins you have in iTunes?
Has the new version of iTunes ever worked correctly for you? If so, can you think of any recent changes to your computer that may have sparked this issue?

Your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

  • Recently, I am unable to play You tube videos. Why?

My MacBook Pro is only a few months old. I am still new to the system, and much of it greatly perplexes me. My job is largely dependent on You Tube, and I am really upset that my computer has somehow locked me out! All of a sudden, from one day to the next, I became unable to view You Tube videos. All I get is a black screen where the video should be, and there is no button to click to view the video. I cannot figure out what went wrong! I recently did a recommended software update, and joined MobileMe, but other than that, I haven't changed anything. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Any way to import, play 1080p/24fps video from Sony DSC-HX200V

This Sony camera only comes with Windows software, but apparently iMovie/FCP can import.  However, the website states:
    Notes
When importing AVCHD movies as "iMovie" or "Final Cut Pro"
The AVCHD encoding method of the 2011 model is different from those of models released before 2010.
By updating the Mac OS to the most recent version (10.6.7 or higher), importing is possible.
    Cannot import 1080/60p(50p), 1080/24p movies.
Anyone know how I could convert the 1080/24p video shot by this camera, easily, into a format editable by FCP X? (or FCP studio 3)?
    Thanks
    Bob

That information is obsolete. FCP imports AVCHD media in any frame rate.

  • Can ATV 2 play 1080p HD video shot with my new camera? Or do I have to convert the files?

...Or do I have to convert the files? If so, can it be done in iMovie, or do I have to grab some additional software?
    Thanks!

You have the option of creating a lower quality version that will work on both or make a copy for each. 30 fps isn't something I come across too much being in the UK but when I do I make a copy for each, I suspect my Apple TV 1's will be obsolete some day and then I'll delete the lower quality copies.
You might find my User Tip helpful when it comes to exporting for both models.

  • Unable to Play facebook video

    Unable to Play facebook video

All videos on Facebook are h.264 encoded so they don't need flash. Don't spread false information, iPad safari can play Facebook videos since last year. I used to play them without an issue on my iPad but I guess the latest software update screwed that up.
    http://www.intomobile.com/2010/04/27/facebook-enables-ipad-friendly-video-playba ck/
The link says videos uploaded on Facebook are encoded in iPad friendly format, YouTube videos are already iPad friendly so you should be able to play most videos on Facebook on your iPad safari.

  • Hi Team - Not able to play 1080 p videos on Youtube. Website scrollling is also choppy.

    Hi Team
I am unable to play 1080 p videos on Youtube though 780 p videos are getting played nicely. Earlier I used to play 1080 p videos also but now it stopped after installing latest firefox update. But from archives I installed 28.0 version but still the same problem persists.
Also website surfing is not smooth its choppy and website halts while scrolling or browser gets hang while surfing.
Please suggest me what can I do. I have updated graphics drivers and everything.
    Thanks
    Shailesh

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
*check for updates for your graphics drive drivers<br>https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

  • How can I play 1080p MTS file without conversion?

    Hi,
I wasn't yet able to find a decent player capable to play 1080p MTS files smoothly? I acquired the snapshots using a Sony DSC-HXV9 and I don't want to convert them. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

This MTS files can't be direcly played by media player. You can find yourself a converter app. But since you don't want to convert your videos I recommend you VLC player, it may help you .But the quality may not very good. for some free converter app: Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip, freevideomaker.

  • Safari won't play You Tube videos properly

No doubt this is likely related to the ongoing problems I've been having with Safari running Flash as covered in depth in this previous thread -
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1790656&tstart=0
Klaus was very helpful in that thread and things got incrementally better - but not solved...it's still very slow compared to any other browser. So rather than re-hash everything that's already been done, I was just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem? The YT videos will load and play but they are all jerky and sputtering. Other browsers (Firefox etc.) all can play the same videos smoothly with no issues.
I don't have redundant Flash players in my HD Library Plug-Ins folder and User Library Plug-Ins - but I do have something called "UnityPlayer.plugin" in my User's that I'm not sure what it is...

    Here is unity Player plugin.http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/unitybrowserplugin.html
Not sure if this anything to do with your problem
