Unable to play .avi files Elements Premiere 9
I am a new user. HP portable workstation running XP Pro, Nivida graphics
, using a older Flip camera.
When import from the Flip, .avi files are created. When I try to edit or view the files, the sound plays but no video.
I can see and play audio and video using the Microsoft viewer, but I can not in Elementss 9.
Additional information
Using a newer Flip camera that exports MP4 files, this notebook plays both video and audio.
suggestions Please.
Thank you in advance
Thank you for the response. The older Flip will be back into my office later today and I will respond to your questions.

Unable to play AVI files with Quicktime
I installed Perian and the xvid codec but still cannot play all AVI videos in QT. Not really a problem since I have VLC. However it would be nice to be able to play AVI files in QT as well
AVI container can accept a real mess of codecs, not all of which are provided in Perian. Use a utility such as
Media Info - http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net - to get details of codecs used in multimedia
to see which video codec is used and compare it with the list on Perian's web site. -
Maverick unable to play avi files
i updated my Mac Pro today to mavericks and now i can't view avi files or anything other than mp4 with quick view, using the space bar. need help
The best way to solve this problem is by downloading VLC media player. You will find problem even installing Perian or QuickTime 7 because many videos will not play in these media player. So to solve this problem download VLC from "http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html"

Unable to play Cineform avi files in Premiere Pro CS3
I am using Cineform NeoHD version 5.3.2 to convert the MXF files from my Canon XF300 into Cineform AVI.
Then I import these AVI files into Premiere Pro CS3 and here is where the problem begins.
Premiere is unable to play these Cineform files. All I get is about a second of audio, and a still frame of the video. This happens both in the source window, and also on the timeline.
The Cineform AVI files play perfectly fine when using Virtualdub for playback, but Windows media player behave just like Premiere.
Everything worked fine a week ago. Premiere appeared to use something called "ffdshow" to play the Cineform files, and I could edit without any trouble.
A few days ago, when I tried the same, that's when the problems came. Whenever I hit Play button in Premiere, a popup window came up, saying Premiere wanted to use ffdshow, and the options was "never", "no once", "yes once", "yes always".
When everything worked a week ago, I had to use the "yes always" option.
Now, it does not matter which option I use, Premiere will not play the Cineform files.
I did not make any changes to my computer between the day everything was okay, and when the problem appeared.
A Cineform representative suggested "ffdshow" is the troublemaker, so I uninstalled ffdshow and removed any traces of it I could find, but the same problem still exist.
Then I uninstalled Cineform NeoHD
Uninstalled and reinstalled Production Premium CS3 suite
Reinstalled Cineform NeoHD
Still same problem, nothing has changed.
It does not matter if I use 50i or 25p source files.
My system: (Laptop)
Windows Vista ultimate 64-bit
Intel 2,66GHz quad core CPU
4GB ram
Nvidia Geforce 8800M GTX
3x internal 7200rpm harddrives set up with raid-0
Anyone else experiencing this?
Any ideas what might be wrong?dont know , but this stuff might fix your prob.. overwrite whatever ffdshow screwed up...
cfrepair utility:
http://www.siliconimaging.com/DigitalCinema/SiliconImaging_support.html
cineform codec (neo player)
http://estore.cineform.com/NeoPlayer.aspx
never used the cfrepair thing..but did install neoplayer which gave me the codec to use cs3 with cf raw files ( sample of cf raw at the si 2k site -- avi ext )
ps.... to keep overhead down on my computer I took the resulting cineform "player" out of my startup directory....as it wants to run in background when you install it...no need for that for my purpose of just getting the codec -
Unable to open AVI files in Photoshop CS6
Unable to open AVI files in Photoshop CS6
I am running PS6 and want to open and edit AVI files. When I try to do that I get an error message saying "the video file cannot be opened" . This seems to apply to ALL avis - yet I can open and edit MP4, MMV etc. I installed Gspot to track whether it was a codec issue and when I try to open ANY file I get this error message : "Warning: DirectShow crashed while GSpot was attempting to obtain information about a codec. This is usually due to damaged, misconfigured, conflicting, or poorly written codec drivers. It is possible, perhaps even likely, that other media players will crash when they attempt to play this file as well, as most of them will also use DirectShow. GSpot was able to intercept the crash, and has attempted to identify the codec or filter involved; uninstalling or reinstalling this codec or filter may solve the problem. The codec was tentatively identified as: C:\Windows\system32\imaadp32.acm Unknown video codec #11" I have NO idea where to go from here. I see a site to download the "imaadp32.acm" codec but what about the "Unknown video codec #11". What the heck is that and what do I do about it. Any help would be appreciate, Cliff
ps I should add that the avi files DO open and play in Bridge. I have the latest Quicktime. Everything is up to date and PS and the computer is otherwise working perfectly !Thanks Curt and 'Mylenium'
I did re-set the prefs - but to no avail
I checked and my graphics driver and audio is all up to date.
No sure how to verify Windows Media Player's hardware acceleration options. I opened WMP Options /Perfformance tab and under Cd the DirX tab is checked.
Running Windows Vista - so does the same caution apply regarding a re-install of Windows Media Components and DirectX ?
Appreciate your help with this somewhat frustrating issue. I am converting some old 8mm film to avi with the hope of doing some edits then burning to DVD.

I am having trouble playing MFX files in Premiere Pro CC. The audio is out of synch. Is there a way to monitor the audio correctly?
Many thanksChances are the pinnacle is producing .avi files or MPEFG1/2 streams - iTunes may know how to decode the audio but not the video. Download Handbrake and try running the Pinnacle files through it and adding to iTunes - use Universal format unless you have a specific device in mind.
Keep copies of the originals.
Another option might be to try to install Perian. Can't remember if the Apple MPEG2 plugin allows MPEG2 to be played in iTunes.

Is microsoft avi the highest quality format to export an avi file in premiere pro cs4?
Hello,
I exported an avi file in premiere pro cs4 in media encoder using Microsoft avi format but the quality turned out poor on dvd, what's the highest quality format I can use?
Please help
Thanks
ElioElio,
As has been stated, DV-AVI is not the format FOR a DVD-Video. However, it can be used (and often is) as a transport medium into a DVD authoring program, like Encore.
Can you please outline your workflow from PrPro to the final DVD, and is it a DVD-Video (will contain MPEG-2 material in VOB "containers"), or a DVD-Data, that is then played on a computer with something like Windows Media Player, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, etc.?
Good luck, and please let us know exactly what you are doing, and the programs used.

Cant play .avi files in Lumia
Hi, iam using Lumia 520 and i can't play .avi files on my Lumia.... I read that .avi format is supported in 520,but iam unable ... So kindly please help me....
Hi aadhi07,
Welcome to the Nokia Support Discussions!
Where did you get the .avi files and what's the error message when trying to play it? Does this happen to all .avi files or in some .avi files only?
Upon checking, the Lumia 520 supports .avi, however it can only play a maximum of 720p.

Flash CS5 unable to play .FLV files on Macbook Pro
I have a colleague who is trying to put together a Flash package for me on her macbook pro. It needs to play an flv file. She is unable to play flv files on her computer either in Flash or using the Adobe Media Player. I have no problem playing the same files on my macbook pro, we're both running the latest OS and have version 1.8 of Adobe Media Player.
She went to the Adobe site to download the latest version of Adobe Media Player, hoping that might include whatever component is missing on her system. Because of Adobe's decision not to distribute AMP that didn't help. She has Flash Professional CS5 11.0.2 on her system. When she imports an flv video into a Flash project and tries to play it she gets an error message saying it can't stream the video. Note that the video is on her hard drive, it is NOT on the internet so no streaming should be required.
The actual error message is: "the video player is in the connection error state. It enters this state when a video stream attempted to load but was unsuccessful. There are two possible reasons for the error: no connection to the server or the stream was not found."
Since it's a file on her hard drive, and she has loaded the file into the Adobe development environment successfully, the one thing we know for certain is that neither of these reasons is correct. Something is obviously missing on her system, what is it and what can we do to fix it?I'm getting error too (Error #2044: Unhandled NetStatusEvent:. level=error, code=NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound). I'm getting this with CS5. This file was previously made in CS4 and never got this error.
Everything (fla and flv too) is on external hard disk.
As this work requires to be exported to mov, I've found out that everything needs to be on the mac (don't know for pc), like on desktop.
So, let me wrap up disadvantages I got with Flash CS5:
- TextField.embedFont makes the font disappear in CS5, so I can't use it, so I can't "play" with text in a comfortable way (in CS4, with embedFont = true, I was able to rotate and stuff). Now I have to make a bitmap out of it. It means 3 lines of code and a new variable, instead of just an easy one.
- I have to rebuild my entire source path structure for AS classes, as my old one (that took me years of effort to be reasonable and used to work just fine in CS4).
- I have to move stuff from my hard drive to the desktop, to make flv be played and to make a mov out of my animation.
CS5 is making my job harder and making me lose a lot of time to find out errors that have no good reason to exist (it was not error. just "place CS5 doesn't like"). -

WMV3Server plays avi files containing WMV3/9 video and MP3 audio
WMV3Server
To play avi files with WMV3/9 video and MP3 audio encoding on Mac OS X as of 2005-01-24 you will need:
Mac OS X 10.2 or later
WMV3Server
Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X
An .avi file containing WMV3 video and MP3 audio.
Instructions:
Launch the WMV3Server java application and click the "Open" button.
A standard open-dialog window appears. Either navigate to the avi video file or drag the file into the open window to have the window switch to the folder that contains the avi video file. Select the file and click the "Open" button or press return on the keyboard. The open-dialog window should close.
Next, click the "Start" button. The movie will be cached and WMV3Server will display "Server Started"
Open Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X. Pull down the "File" menu on the menu bar at the top of the screen and select "Open URL..." Enter the following address:
mmst://localhost:1755/
Windows Media Player should connect, buffer and play.
The download page (in Japanese) for WMV3Server is here:
http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Bay/8128/
The download link is:
http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Bay/8128/WMV3Server-0.4.zipUpdate: By playing around with the settings in the Default Applications preference pane (a free download) I somehow got the files to open automatically in QuickTime Player (with Flip4Mac WMV 2.0.1 installed) and they now play (instead of showing white video as they had previously. Unfortunately, I don't recall what I changed.
Here's a sample file (apparently a beer commercial.):
