Unable to play songs

Well, I had this problem previously. The songs on my iPod are greyed out and un editable, playable etc
I remember there is a preference or setting that must be selected to allow for files to be played, or dragged to my library from the iPod, but I cannot remember it.
Does anybody know it?

That is what I mean by greyed out incase I didn't make it clear

  • Unable to play songs from cd

i have just imported songs from a cd onto itunes but when i try to put them onto my ipod mini it says it can't because my ipod is unable to play them. does anyone know what i am doing wrong?

In iTunes, right click on the header bar (the bar that shows song/artist/album etc) and select "kind".
This creates a column that shows what type of file the song is. What does it say?
Is this a new problem? Is it just this CD or are others affected?

  • Unable to play songs continously

I'm unable to play my songs continously.  It plays one song at a time and then stops.  How can I fix this?

    What happens?

  • Unable to play songs already bought

I bought an album on the itunes store, but I am unable to play some of the songs from that album. Everytime I try to play the songs, a box pops up asking me for my apple ID and password to authorize my computer, but even after I enter the information I still cannot play the songs. I even tried to buy them seperatly, but they still didn't play.

Delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

  • After installing Windows 7 i am unable to play songs.

After installing 32 bit Windows 7 everytime i play a song it becomes stuck on 0:00, i have gone through all the discussions on the website and have yet to find a solution, i really want to avoid reinstalling itunes.

To anyone who has the same problem, i ended up solving it by updating my sound devices.
After installing Windows 7 the whole computer would not produce any sound. I own a HP laptop so i just went on the HP website and updated the sound devices on my computer which for some off reason furthermore made iTunes play songs again. I dont fully understand the reasons behind this, but it works.
    I hope this helps.

  • Unable to play songs or videos on Itunes

Songs and videos show and show that plays, but the time or the marker does not move at all, songs and videos don't play, also unable to transfer podcast or videos to my iphone, i'm running the newer itunes version 7.4.2.4.
    Can someone help me please?
    Thank you

Anything else to your setup? Any audio interfaces (if so, disconnect them and see if the marker moves)? Any plugins you have in iTunes?
Has the new version of iTunes ever worked correctly for you? If so, can you think of any recent changes to your computer that may have sparked this issue?

  • Unable to play songs(music files missing)

I've bought albums and single songs on iTunes a while back(almost 3-5 months ago) and what ever selection I pick to play it doesn't let me. On the left of the song I seleceted it shows an explanation point with a circle around it. When I click play on it, instead of playing it it says the following:
"The song "___" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
And when I try to locate it it is not found on my Mac at all. I accidently deleted the music files for the selected songs I bought on iTunes and I need instructions or some type of solution to re-download my songs and albums back for me to play it. Please help me.

I guess the Apples support page can help you:

  • Unable to play songs Downloaded from Nokia Ovi Sto...

    Hi,
I bought Nokia N8 when it was launched. I was using another laptop and music download and playback were working fine there.
Recently i have changed my laptop and Have registered it for Music download through Nokia Ovi Suite and Music player.
I am able to download songs but when i try to play them it throws a message that it needs to install Microsoft DRM software, after i click OK. It either simply hangs or errors out and closes. And the songs show a orange triangle next to them.
Have googled the problem as much as i could but cannot make any sense of the error. Have tried playing downloaded songs from Ovi Suite and Ovi Music player. Both are causing the same problem.
When i try playing the Downloaded songs through Windows media player, It tries searching for Security update then errors out saying that it cannot find the update.
I am running Windows XP SP3 with all Windows updates installed.
Any help in resolving the issue would be Highly appreciated. If there are any Nokia people here, Kindly help me, Its very irritating to download songs and then not be able to play them
Thanks in advance for your help.
    -Anant

I have actually progressed a bit but it is not for the faint hearted and will not work for most:
    1. I had an image of my installation from last year when my OVI PC installation worked so I rolled back to that. That suddenly allowed me to play most of the titles I had downloaded prior to when the image was made.
    2. Unfortunately this did not allow me to play the titles I had downloaded post the image creation. I have tried just about all solutions on the web including MS DRM fix up and installing a new DRM folder.-nothing worked. However, the other day I copied the drmstore file only from my most recent installation before the rollback and it seem to have the DRM information for more then 60% of my music titles. 60% of 38000 titles is a lot better then 10% of 38000. It is now running with my older OVI Music software.
    3. I have spoken to Nokia numouros times; the click one title at a time still means I have to take half a year off work; the techs have intimated (not promised) that the greying out of all titles after downloading one title may be removed - here is to hoping!
In summary: if you have older backups by the actual drmstore file you may be able to retrofit it in the DRM folder and it may work. I am not game to try with a more recent OVI player upgrade so I will keep playing the one year old installation.

  • Unable to play songs in itunes

I get the error message that the original file cannot be found whenever I try to play or transfer music from itunes.
If I locate the song it works fine but as I have over 15000 it is going to take a very long time to locate them all. What has happened and how do I rectify this matter quickly and simply?

Same exact problem. I have my music stored on an external harddrive because of space problems on the internal. Up until the update, my iTunes Library on my internal harddrive had no problems locating the music on my external harddrive. Now it won't locate it. I followed advice from another discussion (take Library out of folder, reactivate Previous Library) but this did nothing. When I move my music back to my internal drive, the Library will locate it. This is not practical. I have 40 Gbs of music. From other threads, this seems to be a major flaw with the update. Help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Unable to play songs purchased on iTunes

I just purchased two songs on iTunes but they are only playing for a few seconds. This  just happened and is the first time it has happened. Please help!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • Unable to play songs that previously played -- "unknown error (-206)"

A few songs which I used to listen to often will no longer play in itunes match. I deleted them from my home machine so they live only in the cloud.
When playing the album it will skip the songs with no inidication that something has gone wrong. However, when I attempt to download I receive the following error:
"There was a problem downloading [Song Title] / [Album Title] / [Artist]. An unknown error occurred (-206). Please check that the network connection is active and try again."
What can I do to resolve?

Delete and redownload it if doing so is free in your country.
