Unable to prepare hard drive for arch install

I am dual booting Windows 7 and Arch Linux. I have tried both the original disc and the 4/27 test snapshot.
When I start going through the install process  and get to "prepare disk" section. I see double partitions:h http://i.imgur.com/TGxh5.jpg
sorry the big photo.
I have no idea why this keeps happening when I try to install arch. I have accomplished installing it before a week ago some how, but I screwed something up and had to reinstall the system again.
I tried deleting all the partitions and repartitioning them using gparted and the tool on the install disc with no result. I can easily install and partition the hard drive no problem. I am currently on a livecd of gparted so I am able to post to the forum. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

It's an issue with the snapshot isos going back several weeks at least.  If you don't know how to work around it, you'll have to use the last stable release.
Or, take the oppurtunity to learn LVM.  The last snapshot I tested, LVM lvs weren't affected for some reason.
I've used the latest snapshot release and still have this problem. tpowa told me to use archboot. So I loaded it up. Saying I need a gpt partition, so I made it one and partitioned it with gparted and added a 512 fat32 partition, win7, boot, root and home. Still have issues installing it. I've installed Win7 like 4 times today, I hate windows, wish I didn't have to use it
I do have a UEFI mobo also and it is enabled. I also can't figure out how to install windows now since I get an error saying "disk is of a gpt format, windows can't install" so im kind of clueless now.

  • How to prepare hard drive for installaton of PSE 13 upgrade

I would like to install PSE 13 upgrade on a notebook where I have PSE 5 installed.  How should I prepare the hard drive for the installation? Should I uninstall PSE 5 before installling PSE 13?  I have found that uninstall programs leave files behind does Adobe have a cleaning tool?
The notebook is a Dell, Latitude E6400, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.27GHz 2 GB RAM
32-bit operating system, Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1

KCav45 we do have the CC Cleaner Tool available at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6.  The most which it would remove from Photoshop Elements 5 would be the licensing files.  Even for Photoshop Elements 13 the uninstaller must be run first and only the licensing files are affected.
I would recommend running the uninstaller available through the Programs and Features Control Panel to remove the Photoshop Elements 5 installation.  Your photos should not be affected.
I did find Use Backup, Restore to move catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later although I am unsure if it is relevant for Photoshop Elements 5.  If you have questions regarding transferring the photos, and any tags or organization you have done, to Photoshop Elements 13 I would recommend posting in the Photoshop Elements forum at Photoshop Elements.  The community in that forum will be more familiar with the topic of moving your photos.

  • Erased Hard Drive for Clean Install of Leopard, Hard drive is gone!

I put in my Leopard Install disk to do a clean install of everything as I was going to give this iMac to someone. I erased the hard drive and then started the Leopard install. It stopped half way through and that was that! Now the hard drive does not appear as my Macintosh HD anymore. When I open disc utility, it lists it as just a 150MB hard drive; no name, no volume. If I try to format it again, it says "resource busy". If I try to install Leopard, it just keeps looking for a drive to install it in. Bummer. Any ideas how I can get my hard drive to be recognized again? It is an iMac G5, 5 years old with no other problems before this. Thanks.

Try shutting down (powering off). Then start it up again using your Mac OS X installation disc, and run Disk Utility as you did before. This time, try going to the Partition tab (instead of using the Erase tab). Reset the +Volume Scheme+ to *1 Partition*, even if it already has only one partition. Click the Options button, and make sure it is set for *Apple Partition Map*. Name the volume +Macintosh HD+, set the Format to +Mac OS Extended (Journaled)+, and Apply.
See if that works any better.

Thank's for your reply - nice to know that they are independent operations.    I appreciate your thought about the 30 day trial, however I already made the purchase.
Here is the rest of my plan - please advise what you think.  I have a desktop computer with a 64-bit CPU and two 500 GB SATAs.  I thought I would create a virtual PC and run Vista in it.  Then I install PSE 5.

  • Partition hard drive for Leopard install?

I'm giving serious consideration to partitioning my hard drive so I can run BOTH Tiger and Leopard.
Has someone tried this? If so, input appreciated.
    thanks

What are you hoping to gain by doing that?
One thing you should consider is where your Home folder will be. Are you going to have two home folders with two document folders, two photo folders, two mail accounts, etc?
I have run my PowerMac with multiple boot drives installed. I used one of them to "test" applications (freeware, shareware) from the internet before putting them on my "main" volume. It worked fine; you just use Startup Disc in System Preferences to change back and forth. But I only used the home folder on my "main" drive as my real home folder. I didn't keep any important work or info on the drive I was using as my sandbox. You could do a similar setup with partitioning until you are fully comfortable that Leopard will meet your needs. But then, how will you remove the partition? Or would you ever?

  • Using my MacPro to install on a hard drive for an iMac?

I doubt this it the proper place for this, but don't know where I should be.    My friend has an iMac with Snow Leopard that needs a new hard drive. He wants me to re-install his OS X and software for him. Since he lives miles away he is sending the new hard drive as well as the software for the install. Is it possible for me to install the hard drive in my MacPro then send it back to him and still have it work in his iMac? (The new hard drive would be installed in his iMac.)
If this will not work, can you suggest the proper way of going about it without using his computer?

Yes, you should be able to help him out. Be sure to prep the new drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X. You can restore his software after installation. If he sends his software on another hard drive, then you can use the Setup Assistant to restore from his backup.

  • Where can I buy a larger hard drive for my late 2008, 15" macbook pro?  From reviewing questions and answers on the support community it would appear that having Apple remove the old and install the new hard drive is recommended.  But how/where?

Where can I buy a larger hard drive for my late 2008, 15" macbook pro?  From reviewing questions and answers on the support community it would appear that having Apple remove the old and install the new hard drive is recommended.  But how/where?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance

  • Can not fine external hard drive for time machine sence lion was installed

I can not fine external hard drive for time machine sence lion was installed, it don't reconise it at all.

I have a Mac Mini (late 2009) and I have an iomega 1TB external hard drive connected to my mini via firewire and usb (usb allows me to use the usb ports on the external 1TB drive to daisy chain other devices).  Since I installed Lion, my Time Machine  and this 1TB drive (and its partitions) is finicky.  Sometimes it is mounted and sometimes it is not.   This issue has only surfaced post Snow Leopard and in the Lion era. I am not the first to say this but the whole reason I went Mac was b/c of Vista.  I am beginning to think that Lion is the new Vista.  Sorry for the latter, just venting... b/c this ain't the first issue with Lion.

Just user to user....based on past and current history, Adobe Tech Support is not going to help you with a technical issue which is preventing you from using your purchased serial number for Photoshop Elements. Version 12 is not the current version. And, the Adobe Tech Support is limited even for the current version which is 13. If this matter involves a purchased activated serial number trapped on a crashed computer while you are trying to install on a 3rd computer, then probably Adobe Chat Activation can be of assistance. If that is the case and you want to explore that possibility, then click on the following link
    Contact Customer Care
    Photoshop Elements
    Adobe ID, Signing In
Adobe ID, Sign In, Account Help
    Chat Panel
If the above link does not hold its set, then you will need to navigate to the Chat Panel using the above titles as guides.
Are you getting one of those "too many computers with your serial number" messages? Then the above should apply to your situation.
    Before the above consider....
    a. For Photoshop Elements technical issues please post your question in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum. Somehow your
question got posted in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum.
    b. Have you verified your Photoshop Elements serial number at the Adobe web site (http://www.adobe.com) - after signing in with your
Adobe ID and Password, type My Products in the Search field and follow the path to your product in My Products. Click on Adobe
Photoshop Elements 12 in your list to reveal the serial number.
    c. Do the install with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.

I found information on how to transfer my itunes library to a new computer. I am going to use an external hard drive for this to transfer my itunes folder to the new computer.
I will then download and install a new version of itunes on my new computer.
My question is this. When I do this, will itunes have all my album artwork for all my library? My library has a lot of my own music and I have spent quite a bit of time copying album artwork that itunes did not add. I am really hoping I don't have to do this again!
    Thanks for your help!

Have you tried the Seagate SSHD connected externally to the MBP via USB?  The drive itself may be faulty.

Does your printer have a slot for an SD card?  Is there are card in the slot?  If so, the computer is trying to mount that card as an external device.  It might be corrupted so that it can't be read.

A PowerBook G4 can't run Snow Leopard OS 10.6, however, it can run Leopard OS 10.5. But you must use a retail (black) Leopard install DVD.
What does the selling of your MacBook have to do with installing Leopard on your PowerBook?

Oh ok, well that was what the test said prior to reformatting the hard drive. Now, it doesn't find any trouble no matter how many times I run it. That's what has me so confused, everything seems to check out and yet...I can't do anything, not even install the software!
