Unable to print from iPhoto '09 - asks for a theme

I just started to experience the following phenomenon: when I try to print from iPhoto '09 (v8.1.1), I get the following error message:
"No available theme.
There were no themes located. Until at least one theme has been installed, this feature will be unavailable."
How can I install a theme? If theme refers to contact sheet, one per page, etc., I can't get to that page. The error message appears immediately after clicking Print.
BTW: I am still able to print from Preview.
Thank you.

First try the following:
1 - move the themes folder to the desktop, reboot and launch iPhoto.
2 - close iPhoto, move the themes folder back to where you found it and reboot.
3 - launch iPhoto and try printing again.
If the above doesn't point iPhoto to the theme folder you'll have to reinstall iPhoto by deleting the theme folder you found, the application and all files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Then reinstall from the disk it came on, apply the latest updaters and try again.

  • Unable to print from iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite?

Whenever I want to print from iPhoto, the application on the IMac becomes unresponsive and will not print. This all started after upgrading to Yosemite. My printer is updated, so now I have no idea how to make this work again. Any help would be great.

OK and I see the issue is only with iPhoto. The only thing I can think of is resetting the printing system and then re-installing the printer(s). DO NOT use any of the printer's software for installing, simply follow the directions for adding a printer in Mac Basics: Printing in OS X - Apple Support.
To reset the printing system, open System Preferences - Printers & Scanners - locate the device in the window on the left and right click the offending printer and select Reset Printing System....
After you have reset the printing system and re-added the device then shutdown (not restart) the computer for about 30 seconds and restart and then test.

  • Unable to Print from iPhoto from MacBook

Trying to print from iPhoto using MacBook Intel. In version 5 there was a print button on the tool bar. In version 6 there is no print button on the tool bar and when I go to customize the tool bar, there is no printer option to choose. So from there I just went to FILE, PRINT. Nothing will print on a networked HP laser jet printer from iPhoto. If I drag the picture to the desktop, it is a JPEG and prints w/o any problems. However, I'm not able to crop the photo because it opens in Preview view. Has anyone had problems such as this printing directly from iPhoto itself? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How are you connected to the printer, wired or wireless?
They did away with the Print button but just type Command-P to bring it up. Try going into the Print Setup menu and selecting the printer before starting the print cycle. Try repairing disk permissions with Disk Utility.
You might try removing and then reinstalling the printer driver for the HP with Printer Setup Utility.
What version of iPhoto and the system are you running?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Unable to print from iPhoto without preview.

Hi everyone, new to this, so please bear with me. Old Toad can you help me please, I love my Mac OS X, and am reasonably savvy, but suddenly iPhoto will not print from the File Menu without going in to Preview? In Preview, you have to click again on File and Print, and not print from the button on the bottom of the Preview Screen. I have had my Mac for one year, and learning all the time, but she has not always done this, please tell me what to do in laypersons language, many thanks for any help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Just select the thumbnail and type Command-P. That will open the print window and you can go from there. OR, double click on a thumbnail to bring up the Edit mode and then use the File->Print menu. Apple moved the Print option to the Edit mode. That has confused a lot of us at first.

  • In iPhoto the double click to enlarge a photo is now a ! in a triangle and I am Unable to print from iPhoto. This has just happened out of the blue.

    Hi All.
In iPhoto I have lost the double click that opensup photos, the double click now appears as a ! in a triangle. At the same time I have lost the print facility in iPhoto. This happened out of the blue and I have been unable to reconcile either problem. Can anyone help please.
    Bill

The ! means that iPhoto has lost connection to the origianl file.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Problems printing from iPhoto 6: Page setup & Preview

I am having trouble printing from iPhoto v6. For starters, the miniture preview frame in the print screen does not conform to the paper size selection or image orientation. (It is always a big square.) Only part of a 4x6 image image is seen in the frame. This makes predicting the final result impossible. To make matters harder, the print dialog does not remember what paper size was last used and many internal "Advanced" options reset the paper size to "letter". Simple choosing any printer preset resets the paper size. Switching from advanced options to the iPhoto options seems to alter other selected options as wlll.
I have the most current driver for my printer. I have no problem printing from Aperture or Photoshop. I have custom color profiles and am not entirely a novice, but I am wasting much paper and ink and spraying the inside of my printer!
The use of the native iPhoto print routines seems mutually exclusive with using Advanced options. I understood that the first iterations of iPhoto wanted us to depend on the Mac Print routines, and it was always a little touchy but I would have hoped earlier problems would have been sorted out by now. I want to print my own pictures!
Much confusion and no place to find good instructions. For example, should I be using "Full Page" or "Standard Prints" Standard settings in the print interface? There appear to be several places to select print sizes but they do not seem linked together nor is it obvious which one is determinitive. Under color options do I select Color Corrections <none> or <Colorsync> which then forces me to use driver recommended by Canon despite the fact I have a custom profile identified in Color sync utility. It just isn't working for me.
Are others notiing that iPhoto print routines are no longer working for them? I would like to see the internal print routines working intuitively before additional efforts are made to facilitate purchase from outside printing sources!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Just ran a test and I got a perfect card. Here's what I did.
1 - create the card and type Command-P.
2 - select Stylus Photo R200 under Printer
3 - click on the Advanced button
4 - in the bottom drop down menu select Paper Handling
5 - select the radio button "Use documents paper size: 7.00 in x 10.00 in
6 - now select Print Settings in the 3rd drop down menu
7 - select the type of paper you're using and the print quality you want. I used Photo and High Speed. (also used plain paper for my test)
9 - put a piece of 7 x 10 paper in the printer (yes, you'll have to trip the paper beforehand or use card stock designed for this)
    10 - click on Print
11 - when the paper exits the printer quickly put it back in the printer
That will do it. Now there is a caveat. Putting it back into the printer before drying tended to get my leading edge nipped. If you use heaver card stock I don't think that will happen but just be aware. If you wait a moment to put the page, turned over, back into the printer to let the ink dry a bit, all you'll have to do is press the middle button which will be blinking red and that will feed the other side thru when you're ready.

  • Can't print from iPhoto. I have the :"There were no themes located"

I've read other threads. I have the Themes folders in both the HD and User folders. I tried moving from the User folder to the HD folder and rebooting. I cannot however, reinstall from the disk onto my iMac , because I installed the application from one of the two MacBooks I bought last year.
Could there be a problem with the Themes folders? I see similar files - one ending in -V.IPBookTheme and the other ending .IPBookTheme. Just trying to think of something. Any tips would be appreciated.
I don't imagine I could reinstall iPhoto 7 at this point could I? Would my photos transfer backwards okay from iPhoto 8 to 7?
I actually dislike Events so much that it might be worth it. But for now I would settle for printing from iPhoto. Thanks for any help.

because I installed the application from one of the two MacBooks I bought last year.
That is in violation of the Apple licensing agreement.

You'll have to buy a copy of iLife for you computer and do a fresh install.
An iPhoto 08 (also known as iPhoto 7) library is not compatible with iPhoto 6. You will have to start over with iPhoto 6 by creating a new V6 library and importing just the Originals folder from the V7 library.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Since upgrading to v 4.01 I am unable to print from a .pdf opened in the browser. How can I fix this?
I can save the page, open in Adobe Reader and print. When in the browser the File - Print command does nothing. Printer screen does not open.
    Windows XP, all updates installed.

    Hi,
One thing to slow it down: low ink. Please check ink cartridges and replace if required.

  • Can't Print From iPhoto 8 to Color LaserJet

I recently purchased an iMac with iPhoto 8 installed. This is the cleanest, easiest-to-use version of iPhoto yet!
Except for a huge problem: I cannot print from iPhoto to my HP Color LaserJet 4650. I can print to that printer from all other applications, including photos in Photoshop and Preview. But when I try to print from iPhoto, I get a message on my printer saying "insufficient memory," which is not true. There is enough printer memory (160 mb) to handle almost any print job I can throw at it. Also, others can print photos from their older versions of iPhoto to the same printer without issues.
I have called HP, who say there are no known issues with their printers and iPhoto 8. I have also trashed the iPhoto preferences with no luck. Even my outside tech guy is stumped. For the time being, I can work around by exporting photos to the desktop and printing in Photoshop or Preview, but I would like to print directly from iPhoto. Any advice?

    Scott:
Thanks for the direction. Tom Rice's link took me to a site where I downloaded some scripts and a driver. After selecting the driver for my HPCLJ4650 everything worked just fine. I don't know why Apple and/or HP are not aware of the problem, but when I read the discussion link you sent me, it sounds like there are a lot of users out there having the same problems with their HP printers and iPhoto '08.
    Anyway, I appreciate the help!

  • Printing from iPhoto to Epson Stylus R1900-Lack of Layout and other options

I have just begun using my MacBook Pro for photo use, and also just acquired an Epson R1900. When I print from iPhoto to the R1900, I can only print 1 photo per page. The usual Epson screen which has an option to change layout, e.g., to multiple photos per page does not appear. If I try to print from Mail the usual Epson screen does appear. Why not in iPhoto like it always has in the past on my iMac when printing to my previous, Canon i950? This is a major concern to me since my wife likes to keep our photos as multiples per page in a scrapbook. I'm using iPhoto '09, vers. 8.1.2., and OS 10.5.8, and the latest update of the Epson driver for the R1900 which claims to be fine with OS 10.5.8.

Well, I found how to get to "Settings." There is a button in the photo area entitled "Customize," which leads to a screen with various options on the bottom, one of which is "Settings." If I click on that I get a small dialog box including the option to select "Multiple Photos per Page." So far it looks like I need to do some very tedious custom sizing to get, say, 4 photos on 1 8x10 page. There is a "Layout" button on the "Customize" screen; however, it only wants to give me horizontal or vertical page orientations; or ones which have the option of adding a title underneath. In the past, if I choose multiple photos per page (or "N up") I could then choose how many: 2, 3, 4, etc photos per page and the program sizes them accordingly. I still get that when I use my old iMac with iPhoto '05 to print to the Epson R1900. Works nice and easy.
Also, I'm confused by the fact that iPhoto '09 does not allow a "Page Setup" file command. This is making it difficult for me to get the photos oriented in a way that they will fit in groups. So far, iPhoto '09 is proving to be very awkward to work with compared with my past experience with iPhoto '05.

  • Color off when printing from iPhoto if photo was scanned in.

When I scan a photo to a file or into an application and try to print from iPhoto, the colors are off. Usually darker than they appear in the photo. If I do a direct print from the scanner to the printer the colors look normal (OK). Any idea if there is some type of adjustment for this?

What color profile do the pics have? Is the printer set to the same profile?

  • Printing from iPhoto only has two paper presets?

When I print from iPhoto to my Epson R1800 I only have access to two paper presets. matte and matte fine? I do not want either of these and I believe it is effecting my print jobs. I tried looking into modifying the presets via this link, but the truth is that when I open the ...Contents/Resources/Presets.xml file I see all the presets are in there, so the issue is somewhere else?
Apple has a dev guide on changing these presets here:
