Unable to print in Reader X

I am unable to print in Reader X, also it happened in Reader 9 - perhaps with the (clean) install of Snow Leopard from Leopard.  I am also using Neo Office (an OpenOffice for Mac).  Neither the Print Icon, nor the Print menu work - it does not bring up the dialog at all in X.  In 9xx, it would ACT as though it printed, but fail with a "no pages were selected", even though they were.  So, today I uninstalled 9xx & installed X fresh.  When it didn't print, I reinstalled it.  It still doesn't work.
Any help appreciated.  (I can print just fine from other apps.  ; main printer right now is networked Xerox Phaser 8560)

For the record, Mac 10.6.5.
PDFs are the problem, I also see no link for a "possible" solution.  Every other application can print, including Firefox, Neo (OpenOffice for Mac), Preview, etc.
My workaround has been to close Acrobat Reader, then open the PDF in Preview and print from there.

I am using reader 11.0.10.32 in Win7 Professional 64 bit.  I am unable to print from Reader.  After selecting print all pages, the progress bar goes through the proper page count. After that a pop up window appears with the message: The document could not be printed.  After pressing the OK button that pop up closes and the next pop up window appears with the message: There were no pages selected to print.  After pressing the OK button, the pop up closes and the pdf document is still visible in Reader.
I can print from other programs to that printer.  I can print from Reader to other printers.
I was able to print to all printers before.  I uninstalled Reader and reinstalled it from the Adobe web site.
Any suggestions to make it print?
    Thanks.

  • Unable to print from Reader 9.4.2

In Windows XP Professional using an HP 5150 DeskJet printer that works fine printing from other applications, I am now unable to print PDF files displayed by Reader 9.4.2. In all cases, I get an "unable to print file" dialog box. If I close that, a new dialog box tells me that no pages have been specified even though I have taken care to specify the pages I want to print. I tried the procedure (found on or linked from this Web site) for printing files as images but I get the same dialog boxes and no printouts. I think it's possible that one of the Reader program files may be missing, but which one--and where can I find a replacement?

I am unable to print a pdf from a website through Adobe Reader on my mac. It keeps telling me that no pages have been selected - I have uploaded the latest version of Adobe with no luck and have never had this issue before !

  • I am unable to print PDF's using either Adobe Reader or Safari. In Adobe Reader, I get an error message from my Cannon printer that says, "/usr.libexec/cups/filter/pstocupsraster failed". In Safari, I can only print the first page of a PDF.

To try to resolve this problem, I have done the following actions.
    1 - I have run Disk Warrior.
    2 - I have repaired permissions.
3 - I have deleted all plist that are either Cannon or Adobe.
4 - I have downloaded and installed the lastest versions of Adobe Reader and the Cannon printer drivers.
I am still unable to print PDF's.
In Safari, I can print only the first page. In a multipage PDF, Safari only seems to recognize the first page.
In Adobe Reader, I get an error message from my printer: "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstocupsraster failed".
Any help would be greatly appreicated!

    Quit Safari.
Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:
☞ If running OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.
☞ If running an older version of OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and copy the line below into the text box that opens:
    ~/Library
Delete the following items from the Library folder:
    Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
    Relaunch Safari and test.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select "/var/log/cups/error_log" from the file list. Post the messages from the time of the last printing attempt.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

  • Unable to print drawing properly in Acrobat - however with Adobe Reader no problem !!!

Got a pdf (converted ACAD drawing) of which certain sections appear hardly readable on screen (grey, distorted ??)
Tried all print options (colour, B&W, save PDF again, check rersolutions, contacted supplier of printer etc.) I could think of but no improvements
By mistake I printed the file direct from explorer view and amazingly enough TEXT OKAY !
Printed original file to CutePDF_writer and - once again - section could be read without any problem
Thought I give the free Adobe Reader a try and once again: no problem at all
Adobe Acrobat is fully updated - beside a Java flattening scripts I have not had anything modified.
Strang situation: only with the professional tool I am using very often I am unable to print as required.
Looks to me the file to be printed has some fonts not recognized / supported / missing in my Acrobat software?
When yes how can I check & resolve ?
Actually puts me in a delicate position now - help urgently needed !
Assume I have to add fonts ? But got no warning anything missing...
And: should a professional software tool not at least match options / features of a free version ?

    It's even getting more weird

  • Adobe reader 9 unable to print - please help

The printer works properly, but everytime time I try to print something off of Adobe Reader 9 while in PDF form it won't let me print. The error it gives me is Unable to print(window pops up, I hit okay or X it out) then another pops up saying, There is no selected item to print. It shows page 1/1 and it says how many pages to print printer has ink and paper it allows to print other stuff just PDF dosen't work for some odd reason, I use Windows XP can anyone help me? Thank you for reading.

    Hi GKaiseril:
    Answers to your questions:
What product and version was being used by the person who could not save the PDF?  *Not sure but likely Acrobat Reader 8.0
Did you apply Extended Reader Rights or Enabling Comments? *Yes. Extended reader rights.
Did you apply any security? *No security added.
I found out that she was 'adding' changes onto the 'filled' form that I sent her.  Perhaps that form was not reader-enabled or, she has done something that was not allowing her to save.
    Is her troubles normal?

  • Unable to print in adobe reader x

I have windows xp and i recently updated to adobe reader x and now am unable to print. i have tried to print 'as an image' but I don't see a option for that on my printer ( I have a HP Deskjet D1420). I also tried uninstalling this version and putting an older version back on my comptuer but it downloaded this one again. I have many things I need to print, and I have no solutions. This is very frustrating and I'm disappointed that you would release something without the print function!! Please help.

I have the same problem.  Upgraded to Adobe Reader X v10.0.1 and now I cant print to my HP Laserjet 2600n over a network connection.  Haven't tried a direct USB connection.  Strange, because Adobe Reader can print to my other laser and inkjet printers, and other applications can print to the color laserjet in question.  I am going to try to go back to a previous version of Adobe Reader until this problem gets ironed out.  Hope it works.  If anyone is looking for a previous version, you can download v9 from Adobe's website at

  • Unable to print with new installation of Adobe Reader X

Yesterday I installed Adobe Reader X on my Dell laptop running Windows XP.  After installing, I was unable to print to a HP Laserjet 4700 printer (only printer I tried).  I rebooted my laptop and tried to repair Adobe Reader and I still can't print.  I uninstalled, rebooted, and re-installed Adobe Reader X and it still won't print. When I click on the print button it just locks up with the hour glass symbol running (only locks up Adobe Reader). I have Adobe Acrobat 9 full version on my computer also and it works fine printing the same documents (a newspaper article without graphics) to the same printer.
Any ideas what could be happening and how to fix it?

Ditto on Darrenz16's problem.  New WIN7-64 Home Premiun system with Adobe Reader 10.1.2.  Reads several files, then starts locking up when I try opening new files.  Seems like Reader is failing to release some resource and eventually running out of whatever it is.  Rebooting seems to help temporarily.  Never had this problem on previous systems.  A set of good examples are the .pdf files at the bottom of this page:  http://www.hussman.net/weeklyMarketComment.html
I can open a few, but then Reader locks up trying to download the files.

Acrobat has NEVER been free. Reader (formerly called "Acrobat Reader") has always been free, but the Creation/Editing software has always had a price tag.

  • Unable to Print with Adobe Reader 9

I just installed the free Adobe Reader 9. After opening a PDF document and attempted to print, I received an alert from Adobe Reader stating that there are no printers installed.
This is not the case, there are several network printers installed and I'm able to print to them using other applications, such as Word, Browsers, etc.
Anyone have any ideas before I uninstall this beast of a reader?
    Thanks!!

My machine has been fine since I last reinstalled adobe reader 9. Tried to print a large pdf file today from my inbox in outlook express and machine again experienced the same problem. Was not able to open my printer and faxes window and unable to print anything else. I resolved the problem by taking the following actions:
Opened Administrative tools in control paneland went to Component Services and clicked on Services(local).Scrolled window down to Print spooler and highlighted Print spooler. Tried to Stop the service. After some time received an error 1053 indicating that the service could not be stopped successfully.
I then Tried to restart the service. This appeared to work correctly. at this point tried to reopen printer and faxes window and could now see my printers briefly before getting error msg indicating spooler problem again. When clicking on my printer icon I could see the document that I had tried to print when I experience the original problem in the printer queue. At this point decided to try and find the file in question. Found a file in C:\windows\system32\spool\printers directory with an filename of xxxxx.spl. This is the spooler print file. I then tried to delete this file but was not allowed to do so by the system. I then used a program called unlocker assistant and deleted the file. Hey presto all printing is now restored and working well again.
It appears that the spool file generated was corrupted and the spooler could not handle the problem. Am not sure where the problem is created. It could be with adobe 9 or it could be a windows spooler problem.
