Unable to print or edit some photos in iPhoto 5

When viewing in the library I have two rolls whose thumpnails are square and have no I.D. numbers, P10103..., and when I go to print, the image is blank and an exclamation point appears in the upper right hand corner of my print screen.
Also no image appears when I go to Edit. Before installing iPhoto 5.0.4 these images printed and I was able to edit them. The pictures were in the previous iPhoto version.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you rename or move any of those files from the Finder? If not then manually check and set the preferences on the iPhoto Library folder and contents as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.

The date they were taken us in the EXIF data and is included in the export
However it is trivial to modify it so I doubt that it would hold water in court

First off it would be good to learn how to use iPhoto - editing is one of the most basic operations - what version of iPhoto do you have? Have you watched the videos and looked in Help?
In general you select the photo can click edit - to straighten you use the "Straighten tool" - to remove areas around the photo you use the "crop tool"

  • Unable to print colors with my photo ink hp348 on HP C3180

    Hi,
I've been using HP C3180 for several years now, mostly to print pictures and scan. I have always used original HP ink. Few months ago my scanner stopped working, however it was successfully repaired in the HP service. I dont know if this is related, however since that time I'm unable to print colors with my photo ink 348...
First of all - when I put only the photo ink into the printer, I get the 'e' error message and the 'check color ink' as well as 'copy' buttons are blinking on the device.
When I put the color ink with my photo ink into the device they stop to blink and the 'e error message' dissappears- however the colors are being printed from the color ink, not from the photo one - which makes a huge difference - but Im sure you know that.
I used to print with this printer in the past with only the photo ink inside, and it was printing colorful pictures, and I did not get any error messages, with one ink inside..
Please help me fix this issue
also - I do have the option to print in color ticked - so this is not the case
it looks like the printer does not recognize the photo ink and it treats it as a black ink.....(but I can assure that it is the photo ink)...

    Hi,
Seems like you have issue with the photo ink cartridge. Try to call HP support for potential replacement.
    Hope it helps

  • After editing a photo in Iphoto the picture loses it's file size

After editing a photo in Iphoto 09 version 8.1.2 the file size of the photo reads at 0 KB of memory, resulting in a corrupt photo that I can still see but I am unable to import it to Facebook or other sharing sources. I have tried a few methods to recover the problem by repairing iphoto by holding alt & command during startup and have also manually imported the same photo again from my camera to try it out again. The photos import on the iphoto app with a file size but shortly after editing some of the photos ( Enhancing and Boosting the colour ) they loose their file size. This problem is happening to numerous of my edited photos and I would love to be able to share them to the world!
    Thank you for your help
    I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8

What version of iPhoto? Is OS X 10.6.8 as you state correct for your OS? How are you seeing the "file size"? what happens if you export one of these photos to the desktop - Exporting From iPhoto

  • If i edit a photo in iPhoto on an ipad will iPhoto on my macbook pro have the edited version as well

If i edit a photo on iphoto on my ipad and then conect it to my laptop will it
save the changes i made the photos on the ipad or will it revert them to
the original version which is the verion they are on the macbook pro?

iPhoto on the iPad and on your Mac ar completely different programs. They do not sync in both directions.
If i edit a photo on iphoto on my ipad and then conect it to my laptop will it
save the changes i made the photos on the ipad or will it revert them to
the original version which is the verion they are on the macbook pro?
When you upload photos to your iPad bysyncing albums and events to it using iTunes, and then edit some photos, and connect the iPad again and sync again, then the synced albums will be replaced on the iPad by the new set of albums. The changes will not sync back to iPhoto on your Mac.
If you want the edited image to appear on your mac, savea new copy to the camera roll and then connect the iPad to your Mac. Import selected photos from the camera rolll to iPhoto.

I cant seem to open some photos on Iphoto. I downloaded like 3 months ago from my phone into the iphoto. I could access ALL of my photos back then but when I try and access them now I cant seem to open the file. When i open iphoto and open the folder thats on it, i can see ALL the photos that are there but when I click on different ones some appear in the larger screen but A LOT of them dont appear. Iphoto seems to have erased the file or I dont know.
Also I tried clicking on the photo that doesnt appear and making it "Reveal it on finder" - "original file" and it says 'The operation can’t be completed because the item can’t be found.".
I really want those photos because they involve a really special family vacation, please help me find those photos

A LOT of them dont appear.
What do you see in the window when you click on those?  A blank, black window?  An exclamation mark?  What?

    No.
    Have a current backup.
Hold the option command keys and launch iPhoto to launch the First aid.
Start with repairing permissions first and proceed from there.
If you need to be more agressive, try the tried and true:

  • Some photos in iphoto are missing and there are blank thumbnails which when i try to open them show an exclamation sign

some photos in iphoto are missing and there are blank thumbnails which when i try to open them show an exclamation sign

The exclamation make is an indication that iPhoto has broken the file path to the original photo.
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • When I edit a photo in iphoto and then email it, sometimes the edits don't show up in the email. Any suggestions?  thanks

When I edit a photo in iphoto and then try to email it, sometimes the edit does not take.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • When using time machine with external hardrive to backup, some music items from iTunes and some photos from iPhoto do not transfer to backup hardrive.  What am I ding wrong?  Using latest version of mountain lion.

When I use time machine with my external harddrive to back up computer, some music from iTunes library, and some photos from iPhoto library are missing when I check backup disk.  I am using latest version of mountain lion.  Am I doing something wrong?

First, Time Machine doesn't completely back up the iPhoto library while iPhoto is running. Make sure you quit iPhoto after making any changes to allow a backup to take place.
This simple procedure will clear your Time Machine settings, including both overt and hidden exclusions. If you have a long exclusion list that can't be recreated easily, you may prefer a more complicated procedure that preserves the exclusion list. In that case, ask for instructions. Otherwise, do as follows.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file selected. Copy it to the Desktop. Then move it (the original, not the copy) to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password. Reboot, recreate your settings in the Time Machine preference pane, and run a backup to test. If TM now performs as expected, delete the file you copied to the Desktop.

When I try to enlarge or edit a photo in iPhoto 11 i see a black triangle.  Can someone help an old man?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Can edit some photos in Photoshop, but not all

Hi, I recently had to archive and install for a system problem. When I tried to edit photos from iPhoto in Photoshop (which always worked before), I had problems, so I reinstalled Photoshop (actually twice). Now most of my photos will open in photoshop I go to edit them, but there are a few albums that won't. Is there any reason why some would not open, even though all my preferences are set to edit in Photoshop? Thanks!

'm sorry to jump into this - but I've never posted to one of these before. I'm having a similar trouble - I tried to change the folder names (in Pictures through Finder not iphotos) and lost access to most of my 2007 photos. The thumbnails are there. I tried deleting and reimporting. I've done all I can think of - restored from trash, deleted and reimported on a thumbdrive. You name it. Finally I got it all straight - went through all 1000+ photos and they appeared - deleted the extras out of trash - went back to remake a slide show and now I'm right back to where I started somehow.
Problem is that all the solutions I can find have a rebuild of the entire library - and I'm terrified to do this as I have photos dating back to 2001 that I do not want to lose or lose access to. I have all these photos in larger groups on another computer - so I could delete 2007 altogether - and reimport - but they are a subset of the photos on the other computer and that is a tremendous amount of work.
Any pointers on what to do that will ONLY affect 2007 photos. I feel like I'm going mad. Really want to get this solved and would appreciate any help. As you might imagine - I'm not very good with these things - so the simpler the directions the better
