Unable to print to pdf from a pdf

We're having a issue where we're unable to print to pdf from a pdf with acrobat 9 std, so far a 64bit machine. We get the following errors
"the document could not be printed"
"there were no pages selected to print"
We see the issue with all pdfs. Acrobat 7 std works fine, as does printing to pdf from other applications with 9 std. So far it only effects acrobat 9 std. We've repaired the installation and updated to the latest. We do have however only see this with one machine, but we haven't looked past this one machine yet...Any ideas?
thanks all,
cg

XP pro 64bit. Just updated to 9.3.3, still have the error being thrown.
The user fills in a form from our intranet and then prints it with the adobe printer creating the illusion that its write protected. I'm not one to stop them, given the forms are low value and all. Possibly if the process is uncomplicated (that's key here) then saving the document to the desktop and making the change and write protecting it there before transmittal might be an alternative, as long as it doesn't rely on passwords and keys...
Sorry I'm an adobe noob.
thanks,

  • I am unable to copy fillable fields from a pdf form into Microsoft Word or notepad....Help! thank you!

I am unable to copy fillable fields from a pdf form I created in Adobe X Pro into a Microsoft Word or Notepad document. Please help! Thank you!!

I have created a fillable form. Part of the information from that form needs to be copied and sent to another department at work. Once i complete the fillable form (e.g. select options from a drop down, enter test in test boxes that are on the form) when i copy that section, i only get the non-fillable information pasted into word or notepad, the drop down selections and fillable text do not copy.

  • I am unable to print color photos from i photo using a Brother Printer

I am unable to print color photos from i photo using a Brother MFC-6490CW all in one.  The photos appear to be in grayscale.  I have checked the printer settings, but for some reason I am not able to access the color management on my printer from printer set up.  It only gives me the standard option.  I have spent hours checking Bother's website and Apple's and I am not able to come up with a valid answer.  I know that the color print works.  If I print something from the internet of from outlook it will print in color.  I know all of my cartridges are in working order, I have cleaned the print head on my Brother, but I am still not able to print photos in color!!!
What puzzles me the most is why I am unable to really access the color management menu on my printer?  It just does not come up.  I have the option from paper handling to print photos, but this has nothing to do with the quality.  I have also tried printing the photo from an Adobe PDF file and I still have the same problem.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thank you.

In the Print dialogue box click on the little triangle to the right of the name of the printer. That will expand the dialogue box.

  • Creating PDFs from a PDF in Snow Leopard

    All,
With Snow Leopard, I'm unable to create a PDF from a PDF using Acrobat 8 or 9 because it doesn't work and theres no fix, yet.
What I do.... someone mails me a PDF, I make comments, fill in info, etc, and need to create another PDF from that one that saves all of my entries as a new PDF where they can't be changed. The "Print to PDF" used to work.
For now, I have to import the PDF into Indesign or Illustrator, which is slow and a pain, make the comments there and save to a PDF in that application.
I'm looking for a new way to solve this easily (as I have a lot of files to save). Would love another "print to PDF" option within Acrobat.
    Thoughts?

<<It won't work with Acrobat but you can take the file and open it in Preview and then save it as a PDF in Print dialogue. Or why not do a Save As in Acrobat and give it a modified name. >>
    Sig,
The open in Preview and save as a PDF worked quite well, thanks!
It won't work in Acrobat, because it saves all of the comments and additions as they are, and still can be modified (or may not print.... stamps don't print or save well.).
    Thanks for the suggestion.
At some point I'll upgrade to CS5 with the lastest Acrobat, but as a part time in the business, I'll wait for now.

  • How do I print 2 pages from a pdf file and enlarge it

how do i print 2 pages from a file and enlarge it  to email

    Hi stevebulldog,
Do I understand correctly that you'd like to extract two pages from a PDF, and then send them via email?
To extract pages from a PDF, you need to use Acrobat. If you don't have Acrobat, you can try it for free for 30 days. Please see http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.
I'm not sure what you mean by "enlarge" it. When your recipient views the PDF, they can enlarge the view (zoom in on the PDF) by choosing options from the View menu in Acrobat or Reader.

  • Can no longer print multiple files from a PDF package

Prior to our upgrade to Acrobat Pro X, we had the ability to print multiple files within a PDF package.  We would simply select the files we wanted to print, say print and it would print them all.  It no longer does so, although it still allows us to select multiple files and to select ALL from the print menu but then it only sends the first file to the printer.
We have tried it on both Windows XP and Windows 7 and it won't work correctly on either one.
Does anyone have any ideas?  This is very frustrating as these packages are created by folks bundling their e-mail messages to send to the fileroom for printing and filing in the official case files.  With the old method we were able to quickly print out all the messages without attachments, and then would only have to individually print those messages that had attachments.  As stands now if we get a package with 100 messages in  it we will have to select and print each file individually instead of being able to print the 75 without attachments as one print job and then only have to do the seperate handling for the remaining 25 with attachments.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I'm using windows 7. The Acrobat that came with the Adobe Creative Suit 4 is Adobe Acrobat Pro. When I am on a web site that has a page in PDF I click on the printer icon and the print page comes up but the preview side is blank and will not print the page.

  • Printing a PDF from a PDF generates a log file

I have pdfs that get generated from a web site and for whatever reason when I go to print them to pdf I just get a log file. I can print to pdf from any other pdf file. I need to do this so that it basically flattens the pdf and the end user can't see where I have typed or added a text box to blank out stuff.
I've tried examining the doc and stripping it of everything.
I've tried making it compatible with Acrobat 8 v1.7
I've tried opening in Acrobat STD, no security set and resave and yet when I open it backup the minimal security settings are back.
I have acrobat 8 std, and reader 8. The original pdf was v1.3, produced apparently from the web site with GPL Ghostscript 8.15, everything is allow in security except doc assembly, commenting, signing, creation of template pages.
Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    George

There is one on the fonts tab of the settings. This one is for problems with embedding and says to create the PDF anyway. Font embedding with unlicensed fonts is a common problem for failure in the creation process and that is why I was suggesting it. Also, your discussion of security raises a flag. It suggests that there is some security setting and that may be the issue.

  • Unable to print multiple copies of a PDF

I am running Adobe Reader X version 10.1.3 on a MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.
For some reason I can only print one copy of a PDF at a time, even if I set the number of copies in the print dialogue box and the Printer dialogue box.
    Help!  It's very frustrating!
    Thanks

    Hello there,
Is it with a particular PDF (eg protected) or any PDF you open? Have you checked your printer settings and check the documents are being proccessed on your computer as opposed to being sent to your printer to be proccessed.
    Hope this helps

  • Searchable pdfs from old pdfs?

I've got about 15 years of pdfs from technical journals, etc. scattered in a number of directories (technology changes, and new categories emerge, etc.).  Rather than attempt to sort, etc., I'd like to dump them into one storage directory and let search tools find what I need.  To do that, I need all these old pdfs to be searchable.  I have a scanner that will do OCR, but I have a real issue with wasting the paper to print them all, only to scan them back in.
Is there a software solution to this?  I'm running Lion OS.

Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service. For Verizon, call the company’s customer service number for mobile broadband support (800-786-8419) and ask to have your account transferred.

  • Creating SAME SIZED pdf from two pdf's

i am probably not following instructions very well and i am not finding an explanation in the documentation so i am hoping someone can help me out here.
i have two pdf's. one is a cover page of a magazine and the other is a page inside the magazine where my work is mentioned. i wish to combine these two pdfs into a SINGLE pdf but in a way that both the pdf's are the same size. i feel like i am missing a settings somewhere for this as each time i do this the inside page is printed into the pdf document at half the size of the cover page.
i have tried saving out as png and making sure they are the same size and resolution but this prints (out of Preview) with white borders all around.
i have tried saving out as Optimized pdf and setting the sizes to 8 x 11 and 72 dpi but this then prints out of Acrobat as a highly rasterized document that is unreadable.
can anyone help me with a step by step on how this can be done? it seems like i should just be able to open two random pdf's in the CREATE pulldown and then tell Acrobat to print them at some specified size (this would be very easy!) but i must be missing something.
    TIA

    Hotwheels 222,
It might help to think of PDF as a container that can have many things such as text, photos, graphics, vector elements, etc all wrapped up inside it.
Normally the content is created in another application such as InDesign, Illustrator, MS Word, or many other appliations. In the application you create a blank document and add or place images, type text in any font you desire, place or create some vector elements (if the application actually have any vector tools), and even other multimedia like audio/video as long as the application supports them,
The photos can all have a different resolution, the vector elements have no resolution (I'll explain), the text may be in many different fonts and they all retain their separate characteristics inside the PDF.
A PDF created from an application like Photoshop will just have one resolution because PS is a pixel based image editor and a PS document can only have a single resolution.
. . .the idea that two adobe products cannot communicate from acrobat to photoshop in terms of a pdf resolution in photoshop seems very inconvenient. . . Again, since a PDF may have many photos with different resolutions, even if PS could get this info (which it can't) what resolution should PS decide to use? PS leaves this up to the user to decide based on what they want their final output may be.
You mention a document you have that "appears to be no images inserted" and "it appears as if it is one image"?
Are you referring to the Cover pdf?  The PDF producer is "Adobe Acrobat 10.0 Image Conversion Plug-In" is a tip off to "Test Screen Name" and myself that it came from Photoshop.
While its possible this document was completly created in Photoshop, it is also likely that it was created in another application like InDesign, etc. exported from there as a PDF and then the PDF was opened in Photoshop which rasterized the content and flattened it into a image file with the resolution that you chose when opening in PS and then saved again as just an image in the PDF format. The graphic artist that created this probably did this because they didn't want to give you a print quality PDF that you might try to extract elements from.
You mentioned you thought the doc was from Adobe Illustrator (AI)  AI is primarily a vector creation tool which also allow for the inclusion pixel based raster images (with a specific pixel resolution) to be placed in an AI document if wanted.  Strictly speaking, vector objects don't have a resolution. They are based on math,
It basically says, place a point at such & such X, Y coordinates, now place another poing at some other X,Y coordinates, it takes into account the arc or angle between the two points and says draw a straight line, or draw a curved line ,etc. Since these are only mathematical instructions. this can be enlarged as big as you want and the relationship between the 2 points and the arc of the curve or line will dictate how the enlarged line or curve will be redrawn.
Vectors are "resolution independent" you can draw a vector logo at 1 x1 inch, and enlarge it to 50 x 50 inches or even as large as a house and it will still print crisp and clean. Note, this only applies to the vector content in your document; any pixel content is stuck at the resolution it was created at.
To inspect elements in a PDF use the Object Inspector in Acrobat Pro. Since a PDF may contain many differing objects you need to click exactly on each object to get any info about the selected object. So if you had 10 photos in your PDF you would need to select each in turn and it would give you the pixel dimension, resolution, color space and profile, etc. if you clicked on text it will identify the font. It is well named, an Object Inspector rather than a Document inspector. Try it yourself with different PDFs you may encounter. If for example, it gives you the exact same info (resolution, pixel dimensions. etc) no matter when you click, then you are likely dealing with a whole single image. If you get different pixel dimension, resolutions when you click in various different areas you are dealing with a PDF that had separate distinct elements.
    . . . i can't see why i shouldn't be able to get a document that is 17.7 x 22.9 at 72 ppi down to one that is 8 x 11 at 300 ppi.
In Photoshop, go to the Image menu, Image Size. This will show the pixel dimensions (width & height) at the top. If you don't interpolate (Resample) Photoshop can only put the same number of pixels into different size documents. When you squeeze the same # of pixels into a smaller doc the resolution goes up. When you place the same # of pixels in a larger doc the resolution goes down.
Remember, that resolution is PPI (Pixels Per Inch)! If you do the math this will start to make sense.
Below note that each dialog box has the EXACT same pixel dimensions.
In the first box it shows the 1275 x 1650 pixels in a document of  17.708 x 22.917 inches. This yields a resolution of 72 PPI.
In the second box I changed the document size to 8.5 x 11 inches and the same 1275 x 1650 pixels now increase the resolution to 150 PPI.
In the third box I changed the resolution to 300 PPI and the same 1275 x 1650 pixels now decrease the document size to 4.25 x 5.5 inches.
If you click the Resample Image box, Photoshop will interpolate (resample) the image by throwing away pixels or by adding pixels, but there is no magic involved, and the results are never as good as one might hope for.
Like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, some things are best when they are "just right"

  • Acrobat 9.3.4 issue: Creating single PDF from Multiple PDFs

    Hey all,
    My setup:
    • Mac OS 10.6.4 / Mac Pro dual / 6GB RAM
    • Adobe CS5 Master Collection
    • Acrobat Pro 9.3.4
Just ran into issue (critical) I have not encountered before, but it is frighteningly reminiscent of the InDesign CS5 problem of the "Document fonts" folder issues and Small Caps/All Caps. Here's the scenario:
    1. In an IDCS5 document I've used the "All Caps" command to give a heading that characteristic (font used is Avenir 95 Black; type 1).
    2. Export to PDF (Print), and receive a correct PDF, with the All Caps designation showing/printing correctly.
    3. Open it in both Acrobat 9.3.4 and Adobe Reader 9.3.4, and the file is correct (see attachment 1, below).
    4. I then make several other single-page PDFs and save them all to a new folder.
After creating these single-page PDFs for client review, the client has requested that a random number of these PDFs be compiled into a single PDF, which is no problem--it's a common request which we do all the time. The steps for this are:
    1. Launch Acrobat Pro 9.3.4
    2. Choose File>Create PDF>Merge Files into a Single PDF; dialogue box pops up.
    3. Click the "Add Files" button in the upper left corner of dialogue box (Single PDF button is selected in top right corner of box).
    4. Navigation window pops up, allowing me to choose the folder created in step 4, above, which contains the PDFs I need.
    5. Highlight the desired PDFs, and arrange them in the desired order; click on the "Combine Files" button in the lower right corner of dialogue box. 6. PDFs are generated, and I save the resulting PDF; I then open it in either Adobe Reader 9.3.4 or Acrobat Pro 9.3.4 to verify all went well, and to my disappointment, notice the incorrect interpretation of the "All Caps" line of type (see attachment 2, below).
I have verified that a PDF file exported through IDCS5 works correctly, and making the 'combined' PDF by making a new IDCS5 document and adding the necessary pages and exporting a single PDF works correctly, as well. The problem is that the "Combine..." feature in Acrobat Pro is our workflow, because it allows for single PDFs to be combined into one WITHOUT having to set up a new IDCS5 document specifically for the final PDF; to do so would require countless numbers of IDCS5 files in order to get the randomly chosen pages into one PDF.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if I overlooked a similar post, my apologies. Thanks in advance...
    Cheers!
    Mikey

The issue is related to font embeddings. If all of the pdfs had contained the entire font set rather than font subsets this would not be an issue. The way to tackle the problem is to use the PDF optimizer to remove ALL font embeddings. Then use the Preflight to to re-embed the fonts.

    hi,
    I've somes url like :
    http://www.server01/mydoc1.pdf,
    http://www.server01/mydoc2.pdf
from another server (server02),what is the solution to merge
a new pdf document on server02 from theses urls from server01?
I try with cfdocument but it doesn't work...
    thanx for your help
    regards,
    Pascal

I try with cfdocument but it doesn't work...
I don't expect it to. Cfdocument is for converting from CFML
and HTML to PDF, not for merging.
Since you're on CF8, you can use the cfpdf tag. The following
example downloads two PDF files, then merges them. However, I get
the feeling there should be a more efficient way.

  • I am unable to print (any website) from the latest Firefox, but print fine from Internet Explorer. Using Windows Vista on a desktop machine.
