Unable to print wirelessly, printer status is offline???

Every time I try to print wirelessly I get a message stating my printer is offline?

Setting a static IP address solved the offline issue for me:

  • Unable to connect wireless printing

I cannot the wireless network for wireless printing through my phone or computer. It asks me the passcode but I didn't set up any passcode and it happens as soon as I bought from the shop. Can someone tell me how can I fix that problem. Thanks!

This is likely caused by your ISP controlling the router and local traffic.  DSL ISP routers are notorious for this.
There are several ways to solve it:
    - Fix it dead - get your own router and attach it "on top of" your existing thomson router and direct all network attachments and traffic to your own router.  Shut off the wireless of the ISP's router.
    - Patch it - this sometimes works:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know this, enter the current IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

I'm running Windows XP. The power comes on, the printer goes into the ready state but I can't print anything because the status says the printer is offline. I printed a bunch of stuff this afternoon, but when I tried again tonight I couldn't print anything. Any ideas? thanks.

    Hi oyfpro,
The Xfinity router may need some tweaking.
Login to your router using the provided instructions by Xfinity and navigate to the wireless settings.
Change the channel to 11 or something less crowded.
Change the network encryption to WPA2 as it is the most secure and most reliable.
Last but not least, update the firmware on the Xfinity router to make sure it's fully up to date with everything.
    Thanks.

Reset the printer to it factory defaults.  Use WPA2-AES encryption in your router.  Try another fixed channel, never 'auto'.  Power off both printer and router.  Power on router, wait 2 mns.  Power on printer and connect to your SSID with your password.  Now try.

  • Hp touchpad unable to configure wireless print were do i find IP for printer

I have a secure system . Touchpad lets me do anything but print. when I try to set up it can not find my printer. It asks for the IP address for the printer. I was able to print until i set up a secure site.
I also have a laptop that is doing the same thing my printer is an officejet j6450 wireless my op sys is win 7 I have downloaded all patches and software for win7.  unable too print.

Yes, your Norton could be in the way.  Have you added Norton since you installed your printer or was it there before?
Go to Control Panel > Printers and delete the printer, then re-add it:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.  Print a Wireless Network Test to get the IP address.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.

  • Unable to connect wireless print server while using wireless modem to ISP

Unable to connect an HP Laserjet 1320 thru the JetDirect ew2400 External Print Server to an imac G5 that uses the 2WIRE352 modem for ISP access thru ATT. Either the ISP is connected and works, or the printer works but no internet access. HP (after 1hr 15 min.) said I need to change/access the "infrastructure" in the OSX. Is that correct? & if so, how do I do this? Do I need to hire Apple Tech Support to do this? How much will that cost. I'm ready to send the Print Server back to HP for a refund.

I would post your issue in the Printing & Faxing forum area. More chance for some of the gurus like Greg Sahli to respond.

The HP Officejet Pro 8000 has been working successfully for the past year via wireless on a home network with 3 computers using an ATT Uverse internet router.  The router was changed to a different new ATT wireless router with a different network name and WiFi password and the printer does not work wirelessly. The printer does work dedicated to one computer with a USB cable.

  • Unable to use wireless printer or gateways/bridges with new D-Link 2750

I have setup a new D-Link modem/router and connected my printer, HP Inkjet 4500, and a Netgear Range Extender WN200RPT. I had no problems with connecting them, but I can not print with any of my computers and the Netgear can not connect to the internet throught the ethernet ports. Verizon wants me to sign up for the Premium support, but all of the equipment worked with my old modem/router. Any ideas?

Also, (don't know if this is relevant) but I've got three sticks of ram: 2 2GB modules and 2 1GB modules. They are grouped together properly.

  • Problem consistently printing via new (summer 2011) AIRPORT EXTREME BASE STATION and Brother wireless printer (model HL5370DW). What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help you folks can offer. I'm a newb here and will try to offer as much detail as I can about the dilemma at hand.
Scenario: Home network has been recently set up for wireless internet access via NEW Airport Extreme Base Station (purchased September 2011). Units accessing the network include: 2011 Macbook Pro, 2011 Macbook Air, 2007 Macbook, 2009 Macbook Pro, 2 iPhone 3GSs, and a 1st-gen iPad (and a partridge in a pear tree AEBS is configured to run WPA2 encrypted network, as well as a WPA2 guest network. I am attempting to yoke a BROTHER HL5370DW wireless B or G/ ethernet / usb-capable printer to the main network such that any and all units can print wirelessly or its equivalent (i.e., via printer hooked to AEBS through USB hub)
Problem: Despite configuring the Brother printer to recognize the main WPA2 network I created, I am unable to get wireless printing to work. My workaround was to physically connect Brother printer to AEBS via USB, specifically using a Belkin USB hub (after all, I wanted access to usb drives, as well as the printer). This workaround works ONLY SOME OF THE TIME. Generally, after a fresh boot of any computer or after a restart of the AEBS, any given computer will be able to print (i.e., any computer wirelessly connected to the main WPA2 network recognizes the printer). HOWEVER, at random times, printer access is gone (as is access to USB drives connected to AEBS's usb hub). Wireless networks are still up and running when that happens. IS THERE A WAY TO GET THE USB HUB's devices (i.e., printer and usb drives) to ALWAYS REMAIN AVAILABLE AS LONG AS THEY STAY CONNECTED TO THE AEBS? In other words, what accounts for the intermittent loss of the usb peripherals?
Sometimes, I just shut the airport off on whatever computer is having this problem, and the problem goes away. Sometimes, the problem is present across all computers in the house, sometimes only a few are affected. I can ALWAYS see the AEBS in the Airport Utility if the AEBS is connected to the particular computer via ETHERNET CABLE.
    My theories:
    - true wireless printing (i.e., without usb hub workaround) doesn't work because the N network somehow isn't backwards compatible with the Brother printer, which, i believe, is B/G. Although...isn't Wireless N networking supposed to work with BG devices? I did find a thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2570774?start=0&tstart=0 ) that explains some of the particulars of WPA2 encryption and Wireless B/G issues, but it was beyond my level of comprehension (I'm a psychologist, but not an Apple Genius
    - The usb workaround is only intermittently viable because of some flaw in the Airport or Airport Utility that causes dropouts to happen when a Macbook Pro or Air's lid gets closed or one gets opened after having been at a different network (e.g., at my office).
    QUESTIONS:
    - Should I try to use my old router (7 year old Linksys WRT54G) as an access point and connect the Brother printer to that G-router? How do I do that?
    - I wouldn't mind just relying on the usb hub method if I could just insure more consistency (i.e., no random dropouts of peripherals). How could I do this?
    Rule out:
    - wireless printing works on my printer - it was being recognized back before the AEBS. I had the Linksys router running a WEP network and had the wireless printer talking with no cables to the router and the computers. (I just don't want to revert to using WEP encryption given its lack of security and my trying to protect HiPAA related health information on behalf of patients)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    13 ASCII characters = 104 (aka 128)-bit WEP
    encryption
If turning off WEP works, then you just need to
provide the cameras with the "Equivalent Network Password".
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual
standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit
WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier, vendors use certain
algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords
(or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use
of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than
lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different
vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX
key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be
hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice
    versa.
You may find the following article helpful:
    - Apple article, especially the part about
    "Third-party client to Airport".
Brilliant idea about trying the system with No encryption on... that DID solve the problem... almost.. once I turned off the encryption option, and restarted the Airport, I got a dialog box showing that the "Base station needs attention" but it didn't indicate WHAT kind of "assistance" it needed. Nonetheless, I closed out of the Airport program only to find that the indicator light, which had been Green, was now, flashing Yellow and I could not connect anything, including my computer. I opened the Airport program again and found the ONLY way I could get the Green light on was to select some sort of encryption option... then the light would go Green again but my cameras would not hook up again, and when I went back in and ONLY changed the option to NO encryption, I got the yellow flashing light and the "this base unit needs attention" warning...
I think your suggestions are almost on the mark... is there any way of reconciling the WEP coding between the cameras and the Airport??? Or turning off the encryption option and STILL have Airport work?
Thanks again for your help and suggestions... I really appreciate it.

  • Unable to connect to a Wireless Printer (Printer always Offline)

Hi, please help me. I am desperate now, even though I feel very happy at first when I purchase my macbook air.
    My computer:
    1. 13.3" macbook air with latest OSX Lion installed.
    2. 12" Acer notebook with Windows 7 installed.
    My wireless router:
    1. Linksys WRT54G2 V1
    2. TP Link TP-MR3420
    My printer:
    HP Officejet 7500A Wide Format
Initially, I am using my Linksys router to create my home network. I connect my printer to the router and everything works like a charm. I can print wirelessly without any effort at all from both of my mac and windows computer using the Linksys router.
This works just fine until 2 weeks later, when I upgrade to a new TP Link router. I did the same process as my 1st router and the printer finally connected to the router. This time also, both mac and windows computer can print wirelessly without any problem.
The next day, however, when I want to print using my macbook air, it couldn't detect my printer, saying that it is disconnected/ offline. I check the wireless connection status - both printer and macbook is connected to the same network. I try many suggestions from HP website such as:
    - Reset the printer network setting and reconnect my printer
    - Reset my printer setting in my macbook air and re-add it
But still I cannot print using my macbook. Other windows computer can print with no problem at all.
    What really have happened?
    Please help.

I have exactly the same problem.  The same printer (HP 7500A wide format) is working fine with a windows PC but not my macbook pro; despite doing everything HP recommends.  It seems almost certain to be an Apple issue, as it works fine on the old PC.  HELP!

  • HP PhotoSmart 6520, Printer offline, Wireless printing from Windows 8.1 and others

My parents own an HP PhotoSmart 6520. They have 3 or 4 computers. 1 Is connected to this printer via USB cable. 3 Are "connected" over wireless. The printer has the latest firmware updates according to checks from the printer front display.
    Problem is this:
    1) When first starting the printer, and the printer gets on the wifi network, all wifi-available devices can print to it over wifi. We are also able to browse to the printer config web pages to see status, and change configs as needed.
    2) After about 5 minutes of printer inactivity, all wireless clients can't print to the printer to print, and can't connect to the printer's web page. (The printer appears to be offline to each OS that uses WiFi to get Internet access.
    3) If we visit the printer control screen, physically attached to the pinter, find the network configuration, and choose to "turn off" wifi at the printer, then after off, "turn on" wifi and see an IP address get assigned, then all WiFi machines can print to the printer over WiFi. However, after 5 minutes, again, the printer is offline. No matter what or how much each WiFi-based machine sends to their printer queue/spool, the printer remains offline.
    4) If the USB-connected machine prints to the printer over USB, the printer once again becomes available over the wireless network.
The work-around is terrible. (Cycle WiFi access every time they need to print from Wireless devices.)
    Things we have tried:
    1) This is running the latest firmware according to the WebService section request to check for upgrades. They are on the latest according to the results. (no help)
    2) DHCP was the initial config for network settings. I moved to a DHCP server configuration with static IP served by printer MAC address. (No help)
    3) I switched to totally static IP address, thinking it might be a DHCP lease-time/renewal issue, or custom vendor string issues or bug. (no help)
    4) Enabled/Disabled IPv6 even though they are on a NAT-ed network with only IPv4 support. (no help)
    5) Visited printer config with web broswer, and change energy saver setting from "5 minutes" to "15 minutes" because the ~5 minute window seemed like an approximate time limit. (No help)
    6) Enable/Disable other settings through the web and restart the printer. (No help.)
    7) Suggestions listed here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-6520-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5169038/model/516... (No help)
In testing this, with static IP or not, from other machines, when we can print over WiFi to the printer, the IPv4 address is ping-able from peers on the network. After ~5 minutes pass, and the pinter goes "offline" there are no ping replies to the static or other IP address assigned to this printer. By all accounts, when the printer is "offline" it really is no longer on the WiFi network. Meanwhile, oter devices can ping each other. (All computers, smartphones, tablets, etc can all respond to ping.)
None of the other devices suffer from dropped access to the WiFi and Internet.
    Suggestions?
I do not have access to this right now, but I can walk my parents through whatever steps are needed to resolve this.
    Thanks!
    P.S. Other things tried:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/If-your-printer-drops-off-your-network/...
    1) When online, generating report, reports online
    2) When offline, report reports that it is still associated with access point
    3) Printer is about 2 feet away from the access point it is communicating with and has max-bars showing signal strength.
    4) Channel allocation for WiFi was selected based on least used channel, and works very well for all other devices on this channel.
    5) There is only one accesspoint with the name it associates with.
    6) The only options for power-saving "auto-off" we see via web pages from printer are: 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes, and changing to 15 minutes does not allow the printer to remain online for 14 minutes -- it still goes offline to the network after ~5 minutes -- even agfter changing this settings and power cycling the printer.
    7) No wireless extender is being used.
    8) We tried static IP, Dynamic IP, and statically assigned DHCP served IP.
Once printer is "offline" when visiting printer to tell printer to disable WiFi access, then re-enable it, all machines with items in their printer queue/spool *immediately* de-queue/de-spool their printer jobs to the printer.

    Hi @TheSynAck,
I see you are using a Hot Spot, I believe we have found the reason for the connectivity issues. There may be a setting that needs to manually configured for the Hotspot to 'allow' your printer access. Also, hotspots may have limitations and restrictions that may cause connectivity issues.
Take a look here: Setting up the Printer as a HotSpot, it shows a Laserjet but the same steps apply.
Keep in mind that Hotspot connections are 'best effort' connections due to the issues of inconsistencies within the connection. They are not routers. Therefore, you may experience issues in the future when using the Hotspot for your connection. Usually a powercycle or hard reset of the HotSpot will resolve such issues.
I would not recommend getting another Hot Spot as the connection is not guaranteed, you could however try a Wireless Router if you are looking to upgrade anyways.
With the PS 6520 you also have the ability to print using the HP Wireless Direct printing option. Please click on the link below to get started:

I hope this gives you a better understanding of the intermittent connection issues.
