Unable to print with custom Epson 3880 printer profile (same issue in PS CS6)

Lightroom 4.4.  Mac OS 10.8.3
I received 2 custom color profiles and put them into  /Library/ColorSync/Profiles.   From Lightroom Print module, I can bring in these 2 profiles and they can now be choices.  I select one of them as the Color Management Profile in the Print Module and then click the Print button.
In the dialog box that comes up with all the print choices, under Printer Setting/Advanced Color Settings, it does not display the custom profile I told Lightroom to use.  I also noticed that the profile changed if I changed the Media Type.  I don't want media type of glossy to use Epson's profile, I want it to use the profile I selected from within the Lightroom Print Module.  I want to be able to create new Presets to use the custom profile.
In the Printer dialog, I also set the Presets to default settings and that does not clear everything like I thought it might.

So far, so good.

If I understand what you're talking about (a screen grab would help), that's fine. There are no ICC profiles to again select. Driver should be set to No Color Adjustment.
In the Printer dialog, I also set the Presets to default settings and that does not clear everything like I thought it might.
In LR, you always select Default Settings (not a custom setting) for the driver because LR stores all the pertinent info in the print template. Now if you were printing in say Photoshop, a custom preset would be fine and save you some time in having to always configure the print driver. But not in LR!

  • Epson 3880 printer doesn't connect with mountain lion

My Epson 3880 printer is connected to my Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion with a USB cable.  Since changing to Mountain Lion, I have been unable to print.  I've replaced the driver on the original software disc with the current driver shown on the Epson website with no improvement.  The message I get tells me that the printer is "not communicating" with the Macbook.  Any thoughts on how to fix this would be great.

Try deleting the /Library/Printers/Epson and /Library/Caches/Epson folders, resetting the printing system in Print & Scan prefs, then installing the printers from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398.
    Hope this helps

Does anyone know how to fix this?

What EXACT version of Photoshop CS4 are you running?  You should be on Photoshop CS4 v 11.0.2.
Also run Apple's software update to see whether it offers you the latest Epson update:

Epson Stylus Pro 3880, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.
MOST IMPORTANTLY:  have Photoshop re-create its own Preferences:
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here:

Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • Color cast when printing from Lightroom with Epson 3880 printer

Just got an epson 3880 printer. Printing on epson paper is fine. But printing on Ilford or Moab or other papers from lightroom and photoshop have a terrible magenta color cast.
WHen I print the same image from Preview, with the same print driver settings, it looks fine. So somehow the adobe apps (or my settings) are messing up the color sync.
I used to have an espon 2400 which worked just fine.
I have Mac OSX-10.9.1. Monitor is calibrated. (Prints to epson paper with their profiles look great...it's just other profiles that are really bad).
    I need help!

Are you using moab icc profiles or are you using one of the epson profiles?
I always use the moab profiles which you can download from their Web site. This way you are matching the specific epson printer with the specific moab paper.
At that point you change the printer manages color to Lightroom manages color and select the specific profile. Very easy to do - they even have instructions on the Moab site for installing the profiles if you haven't done that.
Once installed you can also use them through the system print dialogs in PS but it is really much much easier to use in LR - Since coming on board with LR last summer, I have switched to doing ALL printing from LR. Since you mentioned that you are having the same problem with LR and PS, I'm betting you are using epson profiles and this will solve your problem.
    Hope so

  • Epson 3880 Printer won't print

I have an i5 iMac running OS x 10.8.4 that I recently migrated to (about 3 months now) from a PC.  My Epson 3880 printer and 1400 printer will not print from Photoshop CS6 or Lightroom 4.  I have printed text and less intensive graphics to the 1400.  When I print from these apps all I get in the progress is "Stopped - 'filter' failed".  It does not tell me what 'filter has failed.  I have deleted and reinstalled, restarted, googled the crap out of it and I see many having this issue up and a few have been solved but whenever I try one of the fixes listed - nothing.
Now when I try to print, say from mail, the 1400 is no longer printing at all, same message.
This is frustrating to say the least since I am a photographer and that's why I switched to mac.
Also, still can't find the generic ICC profiles for Epson that used to be installed with the driver (ie for glossy, matte photo paper).  One support forum did mention the location where the 3880 ICC profiles were buried and I found them and dragged them out.  No luck with the 1400 yet.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Trying to Print Via my epson 3880

I'm trying to print using my epson 3880 but once i get through to select the paper i want to use i only have options to use epson photographic paper, and I've got other papers that i want to use. does anyone have any ideas what i can do?
    thanks guys and girls

Generally, there are two issues.  First, you must know which paper to select, and second you must specify a feed-method that allows the paper you want to be in the list.
Second thing first, as it's more tricky.
The paper selection in the "Media Type" drop-down of the Epson 3880 Print dialog (the second print dialog presented when printing from Aperture) is limited by the selection you make for "Paper Size" in the Printer section of the Aperture "Print" dialog.  To get "Fine Art" papers to show (and be selectable) in the Media Type drop-down, you must specify a Paper Size that allows those papers.  Anything marked "Manual" should suffice.
An example will be helpful  .  I print most of my work on Epson's Hot Pressed paper, which I purchase in boxes of sheets.  If I am printing to 8 ½ x 11 inch sheets, I do the following:
In Aperture, in the Printer section of the Print dialog, I select "US Letter (Manual - Rear)":
(This is the key.  Selecting "US Letter" will not allow me to specify the paper I want.)
When I click the button "Print", another Print dialog opens.  This one is specific to the printer (in this case, the Epson 3880).  In that dialog, I specify for "Media Type" on the "Basic" tab of the "Printer Settings" tab of the "Print" dialog "Hot Press Bright":
This shows in the drop-down menu, along with other papers which must be fed manually:
I hope that helps.  Non-Epson papers should come with instructions telling you the paper to select.  For instance, I also print to Hahnemühle Harman low-gloss papers.  These specify that I select "Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster", which I do:
In the above dialogs, you can see that I have created printer presets for the papers I regularly use.

  • LR /Epson 3880 Color Profile / Monitor Calibration / Printer Calibration etc - X-Rite  Color Munki

Looking for opinions on the X-rite product colormunki or spyder etc. to calibrate my monitors with the Epson 3880.  My preview screen for printing in LR 5.7.1 looks VERY grainy (at times) and often the printer does not produce accurate color renditions of the monitor screen.  Do folks have an opinion on this or a path they followed to produce the best prints having post processed in both Lightroom and Photoshop?

Excellent.  Thank you.  I did not realize that you were working with two sets of profiles, one for the monitor to ensure correct color/brightness etc that best duplicates what you will receive from the printer, and a second color profile that adjusts the printers interpretation of the print colors for the type of medium (paper, e.g., gloss, hot press, etc) that you are using to produce the product.  This now makes sense to me.  Therefore, if I am using the correct color management profile in the color management section of the LR print module, e.g. let's say an Epson Hot press paper, if my printed product does not render the colors in the same manner as I viewed them on the monitor, my next step would be to calibrate my monitors using a X-rite device or Spyder etc.
Going back to the X-rite Colormunki verses for example a spyder of x-rite i1Display Pro, I assume that the colormunki is able to create a profile for both a monitor as well as the paper you are using. The Colormunki is twice the price of the i1Display Pro.  (I guess it scans the paper).   Unless you are using a non-standard paper from a manufacturer that HAS NOT created a profile which you can download, you do not need a Colormunki and the i1Display Pro (or Spyder) to calibrate the monitor is all that is necessary.
Finally, your point about ensuring you do not "double" manage the color profile in the software (LR or PS) and the printer driver software is very helpful.  The Epson 3880 printer driver allows you to turn off the color management by the printer but you also can set an input profile, printer profile, and a host of other settings etc depending on your production objective.  You were correct in that, in some cases,I was double managing the color, hence, my product was much more accurate when I choose one or the other.
Thanks again for being so clear and taking the time to respond in detail.  Much appreciated.

  • My mac air won't work with my epson PX730WD printer

I'm using a fairly new Mac Air 2 running OS X version 10.9.5, with an Epson PX730WD printer that has worked fine for the last 5 years with my previous Windows laptop. But since changing to Apple the printer seems to be forever disconnecting from my home BT wifi router.  It wouldn't have occurred to me that the problem might be the Mac, except I saw many posts on this site with the same problem, but related to different Mac operating systems.
I have re-started the Mac, re-started the printer, to no avail.
    Any help really appreciated, thanks

How do you know it really turn on?
Do you have a monitor/adopter so you can try the mini-display port/Thunderbolt port?
Maybe the power problem damaged the Mini itself or the HDMI port.

  • CS5 will not print on new Epson 3880, message paper out or paper not loaded correctly

CS5 will not print on new Epson 3880, message paper out or paper not loaded correctly

In the Print dialog box, click Print Settings and verify the Paper Size you chose. This is important because the 3880 has three paper feeds (auto sheet feeder, rear manual feed, front manual feed). And for each major paper size you have to choose not only the size but also the correct feed. For example, if you want US Letter, choose US Letter, notice that this menu expands to five more US Letter paper size options, and choose the specific US Letter paper feed you want.
If there is a mismatch between the paper size + feed combination you picked and the feed where the paper actually is, you can get the error that you're seeing. Because the Epson printer driver will look for the paper in a feed where there isn't any paper.
So if you've added US Letter paper to the automatic paper tray, in Paper Size double-check that you chose the US Letter submenu command that says just US Letter, not one of the other options like US Letter (Manual - Front).

I want to use my jetpack 890L as a wireless router to enable wireless printing with a canon laser printer. Is this possible, and does the jetpack support WPS?

I’ve used several wireless printers with a 4510 and 5510 Jetpack and they all print just fine. The MHS890L does not support WPS. The WPS Wikipedia article briefly addresses the reason why you should not use WPS.  If you’re having trouble setting up your printer the manufacturer has a toll free support line to help you. Your Jetpack has the Wi-Fi Password on the bottom, under the battery, and or in the LED display.

  • Lightroom, epson 3880, print dialog problems

Hi, I hope someone can help me - I am really struggling with lightroom 5 on OSX 10.8.5 and printing to Epson 3880.
Whenever I change the print dialog eg to rear feeder, or photo glossy paper it daults to top feeder, and premuim lustre paper. Printing directly after making changes has no effect. I have tried deleting the epson drivers and associated files and reloading, deleting and re-installing lightroom, and no joy.
The printer dialog works fine in elements and preview, its just lightroom where it seems to have no effect.
I hope someone can help because its driving me mad!!!!!
    Thanks

So it's the Epson/LR combo only?
If you haven't done it lately, I'd do the Epson-Apple driver fix hocus pocus which is to delete all instances of Epson printers from System Preferences>Print & Fax.
Then go to /Library/Printers and toss the whole Epson folder.
Toss LFP Remote Panel (IF you are using this utility for your printer).
Then reinstall drivers from Epson, never Apple.
When you go back to Print & Fax to add the printer, on 10.6 I had to wait almost a minute before the IP version of the printer showed up, whereas the Bonjour one shows up right away. Then add the IP instance of the printer. This is for printers on a network.
