Unable to read or download pdfs

When I click on a pdf file I get a white screen and the spinning color wheel, but it never displays or downloads the pdf. I have tried right-clicking and the command-click to invoke Preview but then I only get a pull-down option that says "Copy link." I can use Firefox to get the pdf, but it simply won't work in Safari. Others where I work can go to the same pdf in Safari and view/download it fine. I have a new MacBook Pro with the latest Safari on it (Version 2 point something). Any ideas?

After losing my two Apple Store rebate submission forms due to a bad installation of Reader, I now prefer to use Preview as the pdf reader for several very good reasons:
1) One gets a quick, clean dependable download off the net without the Adobe Reader icon junk around the borders--a FULL SIZE view of the document for easy reading.
2) Preview allows one to circle items on the pdf or annotate items with highlighted text directly on the pdf printout. Not Adobe. Great for maps and other things.
3) In many instances Reader opens at less than 50% view which requires a magnifying glass to read while Preview pops the same document to fit the entire screen vertically.
4) Adobe constantly interrupts my work to urge me to use Adobe updater while Preview is Apple software guaranteed to work with minimal hassle and only occassional updates as part of OSX updates.
So I trashed Adobe Updater, opened Adobe Reader preferences, unchecked the display pdf box to allow Preview to open the pdf files and then opened my main library's internet plug-ins folder and put the Adobe Internet plug-in in the disabled folder. I also opened the same internet folder in my user library and pulled and trashed the plugin. Now everything works as it should without Adobe's interference.

I am unable to read signatures on PDF files sent from my Los Angeles office - they use windows, any solution?

    Hey guys,
So this is follow up from my debarkle with the EDD. I found out my problem with copying files from Mac to EDD and vice versa was a result of a not so good EDD ( i had an apollo hard drive from imation) that was not very compatible with macs. So i did my research and found out that the best hard drives were Western Digital and Seagate. I bought the newest western digital EDD 1TB and formated it to FAT32 and guess what...no problems so far. The only problem is that FAT32 format doesn't copy files larger than about 4 gigs so i couldnt copy a movie from my brothers computer onto my EDD that was 1080p. You could probably resolve that by partitioning a small part of your hard drive in ExFAT? but yeah, hopefully that helped guys.

    Hi Blotontheland,
Thanks for the prompt reply. The interesting thing is that my Macbook Pro was upgraded today to Yosemite and I still have the spinning wheel on the start up screen before the login page comes up.

  • Unable To Read Online Adobe PDF Files

What is your OS? Have you tried to fix installation via the help menu?

  • I am unable to view or download PDF files using Firefox that used to open automatically.

Reading some of the other comments on the support site I wonder if in my haste in making sure I didn't get that malware virus if I didn't perhaps accidentally delete a necessary plug-in for Adobe Reader?  I'd appreciate any advice.  Thank you!

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extension) like <i>Adblock Plus</i> or <i>NoScript</i> or <i>Flash Block</i> that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • Download PDF inside a folio

    Hi,
I want to make a folio, where I can embed a link to a website on which the user can download a pdf (to open it in iBooks, if Folio can´t read a downloaded PDF).
So for example there is a link in the folio, you click the link and a webview will open a website where a pdf-download will automatically start and it will open a window: "open with iBooks". If you click this option it will open the iBooks-App with the PDF.
Is there a way to make a pdf-download-folio?
    Thank you.

Just link to the PDF. The in-app browser will open it.

  • I have the Mac OS 10.9.4  I am unable to read PDF's, so thought I would download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It will not install.  Is it comparable with my Mac OS?

I have the Mac OS 10.9.4  I am unable to read PDF's, so thought I would download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It will not install.  Is it comparable with my Mac OS?

    More information would be good.
What do you mean by "unable to read PDF's". How are you trying to read them and what exactly happens when you try?
so thought I would download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It will not install.
    Again, what exactly is happening?
And yes, the latest version should be compatible with your OS.

  • Unable to download pdf file in windows 8.1

After upgrading to windows 8.1, i have been unable to download pdf files sent via yahoo email, IE11 and Adobe Reader 11.  Did not have this problem before with windows 8.  I click on the pdf attachment, NOrton says that the file is safe but nothing happens.  Am unable to save the file to my computer either.  Have already reloaded Adobe Reader repeatedly, drivers for window 8.1 associated with the hardware on my system, newest version of internet explorer,, upgraded drivers for my Canon printer and still no downloads!!!
Can anybody help?  Microsoft community unable to give anymore suggestions.

Wrong forum (this is Digital Editions), but ...
I find .pdf files often won't launch properly on my Win8.1.  It starts the process but it doesn't do the right thing.
Try making sure you don't have any copies of Reader working (AcroRd32.exe on my 32 bit Win 8.1).
Start a copy from the start screen (or start menu if you've set one up) BEFORE you try to access the file.
Now try to do the download or open it from the downloads directory.
I find that way the file will open properly.

  • Unable to download pdf files from emails or websites

I used to be able to download pdf files from emails and websites on my Windows vista 2007 computer, but am now unable to save or download them.  Is there something I need to adjust in my security system which hasn't changed?

If you're using Vista it's the same procedure as with Windows 7 (which I use) From Tools>Internet Options, click the Programs tab, and then click the Set Programs button. In Windows 7 this will open the Control Panel>Default Programs window. From there you want to click Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Scroll down the list to Portable Document Format (PDF). click it and click the Change Program button. Choose Adobe Reader as the default program, click Ok and then PDFs will download instead of opening in IE.

  • Unable to download pdf files from websites

For a month now I have been unable to dowload PDF Files from websites.
I have un-installed Adobe Software & re-installed hoping this would solve
this on going problem. But I am afraid it has not this problem seems to
have accured since the latest up date of Sarfari I trust Apple are coming up with
some sort of solution to this current problem ??

Far as I know the problem isn't on Apple's end. I'm download PDF files with no problem. But I've experienced what you are in the past and I think you were on the right track when you suspected Adobe. In the main Library folder (not the one in your personal directory) there's a folder called Internet Plugins. Look inside for a file called AdobePDFViewer and delete it. If I remember properly, you force Adobe Reader to install a new one by just starting Reader and it will ask if you want to install the PDF reader. Or, you might want to look at this plugin which, in my opinion, beats Adobe's plugin hands down.

ya downloaded the trial version of acrobat. I guess it was free earlier and never faced a problem.
Acrobat has NEVER been free. Reader (formerly called "Acrobat Reader") has always been free, but the Creation/Editing software has always had a price tag.

  • HT1750 unable to download pdf files with the new lion instillation

I am unable to download pdf files after installing lion.

I have an imac purchased 4/2010 and same thing happened to me but can't find anyone to address it. The real tragedy here is that I paid for the full adobe creative suite, web premium back in 2010 and Adobe Pro can't open them, although it worked just fine before. Then I installed the latest version of Adobe reader and tried changing that to my default and that doesn't work either.
It's pretty lame that I have to go on my boyfriends windows pc to open and print a .pdf as the only alternative. I did not read about this when researching whether or not to upgrade to lion from snow leopard otherwise I would not have kept the old operating system.
    Why isn't apple addressing this???
