Unable to read PDF's when recieved as e-mail attachment

I've developed a new sympton on my iPhone 4 in that I am unable to read any PDF files that are sent to me as an attachment on an e-mail.
The files comes as an attachment  winmail.dat file.
I have checked the help section which advised me that the e-mail sender is the issue as the e-mail was sent in RTF.
I've checked this and the e-mail was definatly not sent in RTF, it was sent in HTML.
I have tested this myself by sending myself and e-mail from my Outlook account on my PC to then recieve it on my iPhone (same e-mail account), sent in HTML and I am getting the same winmail.dat again.
Funny thing is I had done the same thing only yesterday and it worked OK although I have since had no end of trouble trying to (unsuccessfully) backup my iPhone to iTunes but that's a story for another thread!
Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
James

At this time, I do not really know the answer, but for now all is terrific. Earlier, along with the .pdf file, I tried to send a 93kb .doc file, and the same thing happened, no display at all. I have tried both of these files many ways. ( I realize that this may not have anything to do with the result ), but yesterday, I added an IMAP Gmail account that worked as it should. I just did a delete on the Gmail account, tried both files, multiple times, and they load and display entirely as they should. I will do more research, but I no longer have any problems with the world's greatest phone. Thanks.

    More information would be good.
What do you mean by "unable to read PDF's". How are you trying to read them and what exactly happens when you try?
so thought I would download the latest version of Adobe Reader.  It will not install.
    Again, what exactly is happening?
And yes, the latest version should be compatible with your OS.

Thank you for your quick response. Nothing happened when I opened it. Just before I posted my concern I registered for Adobe, and voila, I went to my message and it opened. Just think that it was meant to be.

  • Unable to read PDF files created by FTP Adapter

    Hi,
I am unable to read pdf files generated by FTP Adapter with its default settings.
Can anybody guide me how to proceed with it. I guess I need to change something in encoding mechanism in FTP Adapter Outbound Connection Pool, but not sure what has to be.
    Thanks,
    Richa

    Hi all,
I have got its solution. I was unable to read .pdf files because FTP adapter  was sending the files just by changing the extension from .txt /.xml to .pdf that is the reason that it was not readable.
We had to write an java code to convert .xml file to .pdf file and then paas it to FTP ADapter.
    Thanks

  • Unable to read PDF attachments past 1st page in iOS4

    I have upgraded to iOS4
Now I am unable to read PDF attachments past the 1st page.
I have received a number of suggestions (like resetting the phone) but to no avail.
Anybody else with the same problem?

    Thanks for the valiant attempt!
I uninstalled Stanza and hard reset the iPhone (Home+Sleep until the Apple appears)
I tested a couple of new messages with fresh PDF attachments, and the problem
    did not go away.
At this point I may have to consider some sort of software corruption with my iOS4

What exactly is "it"; can you post a screenshot of that?
    Other things you can try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html
...or wait and see if the next Reader version fixes the problem (likely to be released later today).

  • Upgraded to iOS 7 now unable to read pdf

I recently upgraded to the iOS 7.0.3 and I am unable to view pdf files with Safari's native pdf viewer.
Is there any help or am I lost to the search for yet another app?

All of my husband's contacts were gone when he updated, and his son helped him figure out how to copy them over from his Contacts list on his desktop Mac. Mine were fine until a few days after I updated, then I suddenly found a completely empty Calendar AND Contacts list for absolutely no apparent reason. (One minute I'm checking on a text in Urgent Care, an hour later - after not using the phone at all - I'm standing in line at a pharmacy, someone who I know calls me, and her name doesn't show up. I opened my calendar to set up an appt with her and the whole freaking thing was empty!
I has synched (backed up) my phone about a month ago, so I did I again, assuming that would restore my data. Nope. For some reason I tried it again, and it worked. I'm still missing anything I put in since my backup, but it's still way better than nothing.

  • Intermittent 'Unable to read file' error when exporting/opening .html to .xls

    Hi, hope someone can help.
I have an issue where I export a report from the Salesform platform to Excel. The file that is being exported is in html format and the report does not include any Pivot tables.
The 'Unable to read file' error occurs intermittently, when Excel is already open and you export/open it from Salesforce...
Have tried using Excel in safe mode with all the add-ins disabled and still no joy. The
Do not save encrypted paged to disk option has been un-ticked the in Internet Options -> advanced.
The issue happens in IE and other browsers, after raising the issue with Salesforce support they advised to raise the issue with MS instead, so here I am to see if anyone can help!
Any help would be much appreciated

Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, uncheck "Do not save encrypted files to disk"
check your GPO settings to see if you have configured this to be unchecked.
    Thx.

  • Unable to read pdf's

I am unable to access/read pdf's online. The pdf part of the address is greyed out and the screen is blank. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • I am unable to read pdf files using Acrobat Reader on my MAC OS X. Any suggestions?

How do I read pdf files using my MAC OS X?

You can read pdf files with preview. Select a pdf document, right click on it, and choose Preview. You can also get info and select to choose Preview for all.
You can also install Adobe Reader 10.1.3 for Lion. It will also install a plug-in to read pdf docs in the browser.

  • Safari unable to read pdf

    Hi community,
Safari is having problems reading pdfs online.  Firefox is capable of reading them, but not safari.  I've seen other threads, and the most common solution is to go into the Macintosh HD-Library-Internet Plugin folder and deleting any plug in with pdf in it.  However, I do NOT have any such plugin. Does anyone else have another solution option?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
It may be that you will need to 'reset' Internet Explorer, but you can certainly check if this issue is being caused by an add-on as follows.
Click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, open System Tools and click on 'Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)'.  See if Internet Explorer now runs correctly.
    Let me know.

When i run the above code in Se38, I get an email with a attachment that i am able to open. The problem seems to be with user WF_BATCH.
I have already checked all the existing threads on this. I did this coding as per one of the SDN threads itself.
I am able to open the PDF attachment even when i test the method. The problem is only when it is run through a task/workflow.

  • Unable to read PDF files

I have a new Mac Mini which I just migrated from an old iMac (the one with the half-dome base). Some PDF files came over with it and some have been received since. When I click on them I get the following message:
You can't open the application because it is not supported on this architecture.
    Any thoughts?

I'm supposing that your old iMac was a PPC model that was able to run the "Classic Environment" -- and that you migrated over an old version of Adobe Acrobat or Reader that required the Classic Environment, which is not available on your new Intel Mini. Locate that old Adobe Acrobat or Reader and eliminate it on your Mini.
