Unable to read task sequence configuration disk

Target Server is an HP ProLiant BL460c G5
I'm trying to load my reference iso via the iLO connection, mounting the image to the CD drive.  I used the same process to create the WIM file on my Source Server and it worked fine.  I boot from the CD, it loads windows files, then comes up to
the SCCM screen with the error "Unable to read task sequence configuration disk."
Any ideas what's going on?

In my case I had the same error using SCCM boot media in a USB 3.0 port. Solution was here to use a USB 2.0 port to solve it.
Maybe this will help you:

  • "Unable to read task sequence configuration disk" error message. How solve?

    hello guys.
Today I was testing the Windows 7 image on a virtual machine and got the error message as pictured below. Does anyone know what to do to solve?

    Hi,
Have you checked the smsts.log? Are you booting from PXE? or USB?
Please bringing up a command prompt in WinPE and running IPConfig confirms that there is no network connectivity.
    Best Regards,
    Joyce

  • OS Deployment - Unable to read task sequence, WpeInit.exe does not start automatically

Ok so this is a very very weird one.
this is my first time actually coming to the community for help. I need assistance asap.
I have 4517 systems in SCCM 2007, we have a mixture of PXE enabled offices and offices with just DPs that use boot media for OSD. I use the SAME boot image for our PXE enabled task sequence as I do for our boot media. I create an ISO file for our remote
staff and they in turn use it to OSD in those offices.
We have three offices where no matter what I do WPEInit doesn't seem to run and it either instantly reboots (no network) or prompts with the error message in the title. Interestingly enough if you PXE boot that SAME machine it works fine using the identical
    boot image.
    We have tired:
    - New USB keys
    - Different machines
    -  BIOS defaults
    -  Legacy settings for UFEI / Defaults
    - PXE boot (works fine...)
    - Another SCCM Boot image from an earlier Task Sequence (still doesn't work)
    - MDT Boot image, works fine...
any clues? What makes these three offices so special that they refuse to work with a boot image that works everywhere else in our Canadian offices?!

I believe this issue has to do with how the USB drive reports its "type." In my testing, a USB drive that reports itself as a "fixed" disk will not work as an SCCM boot disk.  They have to be "removable." USB drives that
are certified for Windows To Go for example have NOT worked in my experience, because they report as a "fixed" disk. This is usually a problem with high capacity USB drives.
We found some 16GB USB drives that work great, and they report to the OS as being "removable." DISKPART can tell you whether a driver is fixed or removable. In the screenshot below, the second drive will not boot SCCM. The first drive will.

  • Scanner(Warning) : 027: Unable to read the sequence number from the Workstation object.

    Hi
We are having trouble storing inventory scans from some workstations.
We have a windows ONLY environment, with middle tier servers. (ZEN65SP1,
    W2KSP4).
Some workstations are storing fine. The Storer function is working and we
can see the storer functions for the 'good' workstations in the Inventory
    service window.
However some workstations can't store to the inventory db, but DO populate
eDir ZENworks inventory 'minimal information' but show "Scanner(Warning) :
027: Unable to read the sequence number from the Workstation object." in
    the Scan Status...
The Inventory service window shows no attempt by these workstations - it's
almost as though the scan file is not arriving (though eDir knows/displays
    the scan file name)
How does the workstation access the scandir in Windows only/middle tier
environment? Does the scan xml stream get sent to the MT via http and then
on to the scandir via CIFS?
    Any suggestions/explanations welcome!!
    Many thanks

  • 027: Unable to read the sequence number from the Workstation object

    Environment:
    NW 6.5 sp4
    Zen 6.5 sp1
We had a problem with our inventory server processing .STR files a couple
months ago - had to turn off inv. policies on workstations while we resolved
it. Now it's resolved and we're running inventory again. We have a large
number of workstations reporting this error:
027: Unable to read the sequence number from the Workstation object
They have no data in the DB, although they do have minimal scan info, and
the last scan status date matches that of the sequence number error.
I've seen this sporadically in the past and have been able to resolve it by
initiating a full scan on the individual workstation. However, that does
not seem to be making a difference this time.
Novell's troubleshooting document basically says see if the server's
running, and see if there's data for the workstation in the db. Then call
    tech support.
    Any other ideas?

The machines I'm troubleshooting have valid formats for their STR names,
but that doesn't necessarily mean they are valid STR sequence numbers.
Does removing the value in the reg key cause the STR file name to be
    recreated?

I've verified that none of our images contain the c:\zenworks history
folder, and we run a script that cleans up any zenworks items before
sysprep (i.e. makes sure there's no registration info on the
workstations, etc). Our imaging scripts also clear any ZIS info to
avoid any duplication as well, so I don't think imaging would be causing
    this.

Good tip about the hist.ini file, I didn't know about that. It does not
solve the sequence number error, but it does seem to force a full scan
of the system and cause the new scan to be stored in the DB, which was
    not happening before.
    Thanks!

  • Unable to obtain task sequence from SCCM 2007

    Hi,
I have problem to deploy OS to one of my new model laptop due to no NIC driver in boot media CD. When running task sequence wizard, i encounter error " unable to find a valid network adapter driver" and I have google it and get the solution.
However the task sequence did not deploy to my new laptop in SCCM collection.
Step that i use to deploy OS for this new model
    1. Download new NIC driver into USB drive, load it during WinPE and able to obtain IP address
    2. Add the computer to SCCM deployment collection using tool "SCCM add Computer to Collection v.1.0.0.3" with new netbios name and i saw it inside the collection
3 Task sequence did not push to this new model and from SCCM server i unable to ping it , it display error
"Ping request could not find host xxxxxx. Please check the name and try again"
Is that the reason of the failed deployment?
    Regards,
    Chungb

did it obtain IP address from DHCP server? is DNS server address is configured in DHCP scope? can you ping using IP address?
if drivers are proper will suggest to update it in boot media & enable command line support to make it easy for deployment & troubleshooting.

  • Music Downloads - unable to read or write to disk.

Hi, I'm new to iPods, and when I try to download music
I get the message Unable to update iPod, unable to read / write to disk....
Originally I had no problems now unable to download more than one song at a time, and only the manually... it's taking ages...
Does anyone have any ideas? I've restored, reset everything and downloaded the latest software....

    Hi,
Unless you are using OCR (optical character recognition) software when doing the scan, the result of scanning a document is only an image, a picture of the document. Since you only have a picture of the document at this point, the only thing that you can do with it in Word is to insert the image into the document. As an image, you won't be able to edit or search the text that appears in the image. You need to run OCR software to examine the image and convert the images of the characters into editable text. If you are already using OCR software, reply back and let me know which application you are using, and I'll try to help you further.
    Hope this helps,
    Ken

  • Unable to sync - getting error message unable to read or write to disk

Please help! I got this ipod for christmas and am unable to sync it. I have already restored factory settings, recovered it, restarted computer, went to hardware device manager and it says device is working properly - what do I do now?

Are you getting this exact text when you attempt to sync your iPod?:
"Attempting to copy to the disk "------" failed. Disk cannot be read from or written to."
If so, try looking through this article about that issue:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod

  • "unable to read or write to disk.."?

when i connect my ipod to my computer to put songs onto it, it acts like it is working and then a window pops up that says something about not being able to read or write to the disk. i've upgraded the software and reset my ipod, but still nothing.. plus now my ipod is completely empty.. and i've had it for over a year so the warranty is expired..

Does the message indicate any sort of "data error?" I don't remember how the Mac represents a data error, but my best guess is, sadly, a faulty hard drive. The Mini's hard drive is a tiny 1-inch Microdrive, which can be rather fragile especially if it's knocked around while it's spinning. You might try a disk utility that can perform a surface scan of th drive to see if this is the case; if it is, there's really no choice but to send it in for repair or get a buddy who's REALLY handy to put a new drive in. (mind you, it's NOT EASY!)

  • IMac Core 2 Duo unable to read 10.5 install disk

    Hey all,
My father has an iMac Core 2 Duo that shipped with 10.4. Later I installed 10.5 on it, and was running it using an external drive as the Time Machine backup. All was fine, until his HD crashed a few weeks ago.
It was out of warranty, so they brought it to Not-So Best Buy, and them put in a new HD and restore everything. Well, for whatever reason they didn't install 10.5 on it, but the original 10.4. As I don't have my 10.5 install disk, I went out this morning to purchase it for him.
Upon returning home, I inserted the 10.5 retain install disk and the iMac does not recognize the disk. it says it is a blank CD. In inserted it into my MacBook Pro and it recognizes the disk fine.
Is there something on the newer iMacs (newer than my Core Duo MacBook Pro) that I don't know about to try to get this disk to be read by the iMac?
When I put it into boot disk mode (holding the option key during startup) it does not se the install disk either.

It sounds like the iMac may have a bad optical drive.
Use Disk Utility on your MacBook Pro to make a 10GB partition on your external drive. Use Disk Utility's Restore feature to clone the Leopard DVD to the partition. Hook the external drive up to the iMac. See if the iMac will boot from it and allow the install to proceed.

  • Unable to read the sequence number

I've tried to delete the registry key and the hist.ini file. But I'm
still getting the same error. Have you been able to resolve this
problem? Do you have any other ideas? Thanks...

This post is in the wrong place. I was responding to another post - I
guess I hit the wrong button. I'm having problems getting the
workstation to show up in the inventory. It keeps getting the error in
the title. I've deleted registry keys, hist.ini file, renamed computer,
uninstall - reinstalled, it's just not working...

  • Task Sequence Read Error

    Hi All,
I've started creating OSD deployment through bootable media. I've  injected the Dell PE Driver pack into the Boot Image and then created the ISO. I've then burnt the ISO to usb. All good so far (I think), but then on booting the USB we get past the
loading screen and immediately get an error stating:
'Unable to read Task Sequence Configuration Disk'
At first I thought it was just that it was unable to see the NIC Card, hence why I enjected the Dell PE Driver Pack.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Are you plugging the USB stick into a USB2 or 3 port?
If 3, have you included USB3 drivers  on the boot image? Bear in mind the versions of WINPE you are using will impact what drivers you need:
    3.0
Windows 7 code base. It is included in WAIK 2.0.
    3.1
Built from Windows 7 SP1 code base. It is included in Windows Automated
Installation Kit (AIK) Supplement for Windows 7 SP1 available from Microsoft's website.
    4.0
Built from Windows 8 code base. It is included in Windows ADK (Windows
Kits 8.0) and available from Microsoft's website.
    5.0
Built from Windows 8.1 code base. It is included in Windows ADK (Windows
Kits 8.1) and available from Microsoft's website.

  • Create Task Sequence Media Wizard Fails

When attempting to create a bootable media for a task sequence I get the error: Media creation failed with the error message: A required privilege is not held by the client.  Refer to createTSMedia.log file to find more details.  Upon looking in
this log file I see the following in red:
    Unable to apply (0x80070522)
    Closing image file C:\Users\sccmadmin\AppData\Local\Temp\_tsmedia_7156\Cache\LSA00022\WinPE.LSA00022.wim
Failed to create media generator (0x80070522)
CreateTsMedia failed with error 0x80070522, details=''
Media creation process that was started from Admin Console completed.
CreateMedia.exe finished with error code 80070522
I get this error with trying to create an iso as well as trying to create a bootable USB drive.
The SCCM Console was started with admin privileges.  I get this same error trying it on the console installed on my workstation and the console installed on the sccm server.  I am a local administrator on my workstation and sccm console.  I
recall successfully creating media before but for some reason this doesn't work any longer and I am not sure what changed.
SCCM Server: OS and SCCM version are 2012 R2
    Workstation: Windows 7 pro

OK, I would explain the symptoms you have as you have shown at the beginning of this post, explain the difference in policies between the Dev and Prod boxes. Ask that they create a temporary policy to add the default setting of Administrators back
in for you to do some testing.
I am guessing as this is applied to your servers and workstations, based on what you have said, that this setting resides in your Default Domain Policy GPO. Which is possibly the exact issue that Hai Deep had in the post Jórgen posted here
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/83b11a23-24ec-46b1-9a5f-52d335dc92b5/unable-to-create-task-sequence-media-privilege-not-held-by-client?forum=configmgrosd
The above post also says it was a user right which caused the issue, so there is a fair amount of justification to apply the test.
Is your Dev instance in the same Domain or is it a completely separate lab?
let me know if you have issues,
    Thanks,

  • Deploy Task Sequence to VPN based clients

Can task sequences be deployed to VPN based clients? Its not an OSD task sequence, the task sequence in question has a couple of program installs and relatively small in size.
The client machine(s) do receive the deployment although the status deployment remains on "Downloading", so I assume the device cannot locate the content on the DP within the VPN (configured Slow) boundary.
The packages in the custom TS are located on the DP, so its either the boundary or a task sequence configuration.
Just to note - Software updates are deploy successfully to VPN based clients within the same boundary, so I'm inclined to say it might be the task sequence?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Thanks - although where is this configuration in the program/package(s):
"Check the packages/programs called in the TS to ensure they are correctly set for slow-link behaviour."
    Oops, sorry, it's on the deployment;
    Step 10. here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682178.aspx
On the Distribution Points page of the Wizard, specify the following information:
Deployment options – Specify the actions that a client should take to run program content. You can specify behavior when the client is in a fast network boundary, or a slow or unreliable network boundary.
