Unable to recover from repair discs

Hi  I am not able to find the system image on the DVD that I have burnt. It is asking for drivers installation. I am not sure what drivers it is looking for. Can somebody please let me know what is it looking for?
Thanks, Shiva

Hi, The model of the thinkpad is 3249-CTO. The operating system is windows 7 PRO. I used the following steps to burn a copy:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht004960
Boot media was burnt to CD and then Data media to a DVD. When I load the boot media it loads the RnR menu and later it asks for load drivers and I am stuck here.  NOTE: I am trying to install this on a new HDD. Thanks, Shiva

  • Unable to boot from install disc to repair volume

    Hi
Recently ran Onyx which told me the volume needs to be repaired (my Macbook has otherwise pretty much been running fine, perhaps a little slow on startup but no major issues). Not very clued up on using Macs sadly so did a little googling about how to go about this.
Am I right in thinking that I definitely need to repair this even though things appear to be running alright? If so, do I do this by booting from the install disc?
I attempted to boot my Macbook from the install disc to run a repair but I just can't seem to get this working! I put the disc in, restart the machine and hold C, but the mac seems to just boot up as normal. Am I doing this incorrectly?
Any help is appreciated, like I say I'm pretty hopeless!

Perhaps. See #6 in [Formatting, Partitioning, Verifying, and Repairing Disks|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/DU.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Using Snow Leopard+ forum), especially the yellow box there.

  • Unable to recover using recovery discs

    Persario CQ61-327sa
My hdd failed so I installed another one and used the recovery discs I made when I first got the lappy. The recovery discs run fine, but when the 3rd disc finnishes I get this error code

I have tried 3 times with no luck.
    Any ideas?

    Hi:
If you can read your Windows 7 product key on the bottom of your notebook and you can live with whatever software is available on your notebook's support and driver page, you can make your own W7 installation DVD.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn as ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Equium A100 - Unable to boot from bootable disc

    Equium A100-549
My partners son has a 2 year old Toshiba laptop that has become slow over time. I had made a backup of the system with office etc installed using Acronis. Anyway, decided to clear it off by running Acronis and the image saved. The program runs as normal and it drops down to a dos like screen ready to restore. It then sits there with the curser flashing as normal and then it locks up, and doesnt allow you to browse to the image.
I though that this may be corrupted, so reinstalled Acronis. Made an Acronis boot disk to run the image and it ignores the disk and boots straight to the normal hard disk (IDE 0) Still no joy. Then tried the laptops restore disk. In the BIOS I specified CD device as first, and also the restore disk says place in drive and turn off.
Then as it boots hit F12 which brings up a menu allowing you to boot from CD drive. I have done this, but it doesnt appear to look at the CD and just loads windows from the HDD. I removed the CD from system devices and rebooted. It found it and added the new device to itself and requested a reboot. Still no joy!
Scanned with Norton but still no good. Removed Norton. The result is the same. Able to read from the CD and also write to it as well. Ran Toshibas diagnostics on the device and all appears ok with it.
Tried to make a boot disk on flash stick, but this is ignored also, even though specified boot using other devices.
Basically it looks like I cant get it to look at the CD before loading off the HDD.
Would flashing the BIOS cure it? - Registry error causes this?
Is there anywhere that I can speak to someone from Toshiba about this?
Any info / help much appreciated

Worked first time. I was in the middle of running a downloded version of system mechanic to see if it would find anything. Anyway, I placed the restore disk in it and pressed C on reeboot and it worked - foolishly I stopped it and tried again. It worked again. Had searched the entire net and a few forums before coming here. One post and its fixed!!!!
A life saver, especially at christmas as I didnt want to have to buy another laptop.
    Once again thanks

  • 2007 iMac won't boot from startup disc

My brother passed away and I inherited his Mid 2007 iMac. Works fine, but all accounts are still in his name and I do not have his passwords. Trying to wipe the hard drive and do a clean start, but unable to boot from startup disc. It was purchased with Snow Leopard, but has been updated to Lion 10.8.3. It appears that there may be a security feature that rejects any attempt to boot from startup disc. Is there another way to wipe hard drive and start clean?

    Sorry for your loss ...
The original startup disc will not work on a Mac running v10.8.3.
The fact that you do not have the admin password is a problem because you will need it to repair the startup or restore OS X using OS X Recovery

  • MBP not recovering from sleep / Strange 'freezing' crashing...

I'm having a VERY strange issue here.
Over the past week, my MBP (only 4 months old?) has become suddenly unable to recover from sleep. I'll be watching a movie in FrontRow, 'sleep' it from my Apple remote, and then when it re-awakens, the screen fires up but it's black (as in, the backlight is obviously on and drive/fan spins up, but no image on display).
Then, just tonight, I've been working on some websites, nothing too intensive, maybe running iTunes and Safari in the background alongside 'DreamWeaver', and the whole system just FROZE. I can't type, I can't move the cursor, the screen is completely frozen. I kept waiting for the familiar 'kernel panic' screen to appear or something, but I've never seen any Apple machine do this before...
It's kinda worrying as I'm not particularly stressing the machine or anything.... any ideas??

Try setting your SMC controller - especially if its a wake and sleep related issue.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Likewise in Utilities, open 'Console' to look at your logs. There will be diagnostic messages (I hope) about the crash.
You could also run the activity monitor to make sure processes aren't topping out and hogging the CPU.

  • Iphone cant recover from a lost of service

I am in canada, my Iphone sometimes lost the carrier signal and a "no service" message appear at the top left corner. The thing is the phone seems unable to recover from it even if I move to a full signal strengh location. I need to do a full hardware power off/on (holding the button) for the signal to come back. This is happening on my wife iphone too and all my friends with iphone have this problem too. the thing is its also happening with multiple service carriers (telus, Bell, fido, ...)
This looks a lot like Iphone software bug to me. That makes me think AT&T is NOT the problem in the US, its the phone.

Carrier was initially set at the Telus store and an carrier update happen when I sync it on Itunes. Its always set on Telus, I dont see any manual/auto settings. I was saying in my initial post that it happen on multiple carriers because my friends with iphones are on Bell and Fido and they also have the same problem. I even saw one of my friend phone went from 5 bars signal to no service while it was just standing there on a desk.
The problem happen yesterday. I set it to airplane mode then set airplane mode off and after that it search for a signal and found it. At least I dont have to reboot it anymore.
Also, the iphone is not very good at picking up signal inside buildings has other phones with the same carrier will pick up 5 bars while the iphone will be go down to 2 for example.

  • I AM UNABLE TO CONNECT TO ANY WEBSITE USING FIREFOX. EVEN THOUGH, I HAVE BEEN USING FIREFOX ON THE SAME COMPUTER FOR YEARS WITH NO DIFFICULTY. THE PROBLEM AROSE AFTER COMCAST, MY ISP, RECOVERED FROM A WIDESPREAD OUTAGE THAT LASTED 5 HOURS.

I SUCCEEDED IN TRANSFERING ALL MY BOOKMARKS TO GOOGLE CHROME. THIS WILL ALLOW ME ACCESS TO WEBSITES WHILE I WAIT FOR A METHOD TO REPAIR MY FIREFOX PROGRAM. IN A PREVIOUS MESSAGE, I EXPLAINED THAT I WAS UNABLE TO ACCESS ANY WEBSITE USING FIREFOX AFTER COMCAST, MY ISP, RECOVERED FROM AN OUTAGE THAT LASTED 5 HOURS. WHENEVER I TRIED TO CONNECT TO A SITE, A POP-UP MESSAGE APPEARED INDICATING: "UNABLE TO INITIALIZE THE APPLICATION'S SECURITY COMPONENT. THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS PROBLEMS WITH FILES IN YOUR APPLICATION'S PROFILE DIRECTORY. CHECK THAT THIS DIRECTORY HAS NO READ/WRITE RESTRICTIONS." I EVEN REMOVED FIREFOX FROM MY COMPUTER AND DOWNLOADED IT AGAIN, FIGURING THAT BY NOT MERELY USING AN UPGRADE, I WOULD BE INSTALLING A COMPLETELY FRESH DOWNLOAD. UNFORTUNATELY, I RECEIVED THE SAME DISAPPOINTING RESULT, WITH THE SAME POP-UP MESSAGE RE-APPEARING. HOWEVER USING BOTH GOOGLE CHROME AND INTERNET EXPLORER, I WAS ABLE TO CONNECT TO WEBSITES. SO I HAVE TO CONCLUDE THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH MY INTERNET CONNECTION.

Press '''START + R''' in keyboard to open the '''Run''' box(or '''start''' then '''run''') , type in the RUN box '''%APPDATA%''' (or copied in just i wrote, bold text) then click '''OK'''. A Windows Explorer window will appear, in this window, choose '''Mozilla''' then '''Firefox''' then '''Profiles'''. Each folder in the "Profiles" folder (e.g., "xxxxxxxx.default") is a profile on your computer (maybe is one file if you have only one profile).

  • L755-S5244 - W7 system repair disc could not be created... unable to parse... XML data. (0x800705B9)

After creating a backup image of my W7 Toshiba laptop OK, the last step was the option to create a system repair disc. However that returned the following error:
System repair disc could not be created
Windows was unable to parse the requested XML data.
    (0x800705B9)
Note this is *not* the same as "system recovery discs"! I already have a set of those discs which work OK.. What I need is a system repair disc which allows booting into special recovery mode to repair W7, to restore a backup image, etc.
Note that my computer is working fine. I just need to be able to make a system repair disc in case there are future problems. There always are, eventually.
In googling this problem, there are many reports of this error but no clear solution. Some of the reported fixes refer to microsoft help/support/social/technet links which no longer exist. I tried one of those suggestions, SFC /SCANNOW, which didn't find any system file errors on my computer. So that's not the cause.
It may have something to do with the OEM W7 version which Toshiba puts on its laptops such as my L755-S5244(?). It's possible that Toshiba has intentionally or accidentally disabled the normal commands to make a system repair disc in W7. Does anybody know for sure?
    Thanks.

I did a fair amount of goggling and reading, then... I tried 3 different downloadable boot disks from maximumpcguides.com, spirebyte, and mydigitallife.info. They all work exactly the same. When booting from one of those discs, there are 5 options offered. I had to make text notes (below) because there's no way to make screen images in repair mode.
    1) Startup Repair - apparently works OK, at least it went through the process and found no errors. That's as it should be, because this computer is working fine! My only objective here is to find out what can be done someday when it malfunctions, as all computers do eventually..
    2) System Restore - doesn't work
big red X: "To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore." That makes no sense because I only have one Windows installation! This is an important option. Is there any way to access it when Windows 7 won't start normally?
    3) System Image Recovery - It found the image file I had created previously. But I didn't want to risk it on a properly functioning computer (no reason). So I don't know if it will actually work right... someday when I really need it.
    4) Windows Memory Diagnostic - doesn't work
"Windows cannot check for memory problems. An error is preventing Windows from checking for memory problems during startup. To run the Windows Memory Diagnostic manually, boot the computer from  the Windows installation disc, and then select Windows Memory Diagnostic from the Windows Boot Manager menu." However there is no such thing as a Windows installation disc on Toshiba OEM W7. Or is there? Also, I can get to Windows Boot Manager by pressing f8 during startup then select Repair Your Computer, but it won't do anything. Again, it requests the Windows installation disc, which I don't have. Then at the end of all the verbiage... "... Status 0xc000000e; Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible." It would be nice to run a good memory diagnostic because I just  upgraded from 4G to 8G RAM. Suggestions?
    5) Command Prompt - apparently works OK, at least it listed the directory when I entered "dir".
I feel that chances would be better if I could somehow get this W7 Toshiba laptop to make its own system repair disc, which goes full circle back to my original query... Can it be fixed to avoid the parse XML data error?

  • Disk Repair Boot from OSX Disc...

Have a bad issue: my iMac has been found (using disk verify) to be corrupt. It tells me to boot from the installation disc to repair. Only problem is my DVD SuperDrive is dead! How can I boot from a disc if the drive won't mount? I've used three other external drives and none are recognized.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!!

Even if you can't repair the drive from the MacBook Pro in TDM, you should be able to move your user files to either the MacBook Pro or an External HD until you can repair or replace the iMac.

  • I am unable to open Photo on my MacBook Pro after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get says "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!

I am unable to open iPhoto on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.3)  after installing ilife 11 from a disc.  The message I get is "you can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete.  What can I do?!  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Reinstall it.This time delete the receipts first.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update.

  • I just bought a MBP after my PC crashed. How do I set up my itunes library on my new Mac? I do not have a backup drive, and I was unable to recover anything from the trashed PC drive. Can the library be rebuilt/restored??

Finally made the switch from PC to Mac, after my PC crashed and burned. I Do not have a backup on an external drive, and I was unable to recover any data from the trashed PC hard drive.
Can I download my library, or is there a way to get my itunes content on my new Macbook Pro? I have almost 10 years of music and stuff on my iTunes, so I really hope there is a fix!

No backup is a huge mistake.
You can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

  • Corrupt Boot disc - how do I boot from OSX disc to run Repair Disc?

I have just run Verify Disc and it has identified problems which requires me to boot from my OSX disc and run Repair disc.
I think I do this by switching on while holding down C....is that right?
ALSO I can only find my Leopard boot discs and I am currently running Snow Leopard....do I NEED to use the Snow Leopard discs to boot up?
    Thanks in advanced....worried!

Unfortunate that your HD and Time Capsule are playing up at the same time, to say the least.
Hopefully your data will be salvageable, and there are several software options to try, here's a couple:
    free (I think) http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/35373/disk-drill
    and paid for http://download.cnet.com/Data-Rescue/3000-2094_4-211375.html
I've not used either, but the paid for app may look pricey but it seems highly recommended byt those that have used it.
Have you tried re-booting the Time Capsule - still seems hard to believe that's gone down as well. Good luck.

  • HT203167 I am unable to recover my purchased ringtones from the itunes store. Does anyone know how to do this?

I am unable to recover my purchased ringtones from the itunes store. Does anyone know how to do this?

My account's balance shows at the top left of the store's page on my computer's iTunes, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option. If yours doesn't show (you've tried logging out and back into your account to see if it then shows ?), and you didn't have any pre-orders or auto-renewing subscriptions that might have used it, then you could try contacting iTunes support and see if they can help : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • When I go to disc utility, repair disc is not functioning, neither is the verify disc. There is a statement that says,"start up from the mac OS X intallation disc and then choose utilities Disk utility. However there is no option for that

Verify disc and repair disc are not working.  They give me the option to install the "installation disc" click on utilities>Disk utility from there.  When I try this, there is no option to do this that I can find.  Can anyone help me to do this?

You can't run Repair Disk from the Utilities folder. With 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6 put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 or 10.8 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
