Finally made the switch from PC to Mac, after my PC crashed and burned. I Do not have a backup on an external drive, and I was unable to recover any data from the trashed PC hard drive.
Can I download my library, or is there a way to get my itunes content on my new Macbook Pro? I have almost 10 years of music and stuff on my iTunes, so I really hope there is a fix!
Thanks! No backup is a huge mistake.

Recording on DVD - "Unable to recover TOC" error
Hi all
Whenever I try to record on a DVD a face "Unable to recover TOC"
I've tried to change the recording speed but no use.
When I go to DVD properties and click on enable recording it does not recognize the DVD or any other CD in the drive.
Please some helpHi,
1. What software do use to burn cd/dvd disks? Try to use Nero, Ashampoo burning studio, Alcohol CD and DVD Burning Software,
2. Then, I advise you to use high quality medias as TDK or Verbatim.
3
Go to device manager and remove the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Reboot the notebook and wait until the CD/DVD drive would appear again
If you still have problems, maybe there is a problem with your cd/dvdrom -
Hi all,
Whenever I try to burn a disc with iTunes (I'm backing up my whole library), I get this error: "The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry." I'm using MBP and the SuperDrive is Matshushuita UJ-857D.
Anyone know what's going on? I've tried 4 different discs and SuperDrive has destroyed all of them so far
Thanks!
Nicksame thing is happening to me... first my superdrive would hang and i would have to force a restart... now i bought a BRAND new lacie external dvd burner and i am getting "The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry." it looks like all the posts dealing with this are fairly recent... probably an OS problem... hello??? apple???

Eroor after ligin - Unable to Recover Previous State
Hi,
I have fresh eBS vision installed on suse 9.0,
1. I logging in to eBS home page
2. I traing to open resposibility and getting error:
'Error: Unable to Recover Previous State
Transaction context has been lost for the page you requested. This error could have been caused by an expired user session or a system failure.'
What does it means, how to avoid this error?
Tnx,
EdgarDid you re-run all the updates to get your computer back to the point it was at prior to "initilization" (by the way, "initialization" really refers just to formatting a disk and not all the subsequent OS installation, etc. that you did)? It is possible not all components of your applications are in synch with each other. I could easily see this happening with Quicktime and possibly Safari. Text Edit is probably so simple that it is not trying to interact with other components on the computer.
Since Safari and Quicktime are easily available I would just download them and reinstall them. -
Unable to recover deleted item in Exchange 2010
I'm on Exchange 2010 Sp1 and Outlook 2010. I'm trying to recover a deleted item from the dumpster and when I do I get the following error message.
"Outlook was unable to recover some or all of the items in this folder. Make sure you have the required permissions to recover items in this folder, and try again. If the problem persists, contact your administrator."
I am the administrator and I fairly sure I have been able to do this since migrating my mailbox to Exchange 2010 from Exchange 2003. I've rebooted my PC. Any ideas what is going on?Thanks for all the suggestions. That's correct. On my second non problematic PC I can login to my mailbox and recover deleted items without any problems. So same mailbox but different computer no problem. Actually I can recover a deleted item on my problematic
PC for other mailbox no problem too.
In regards to Mumin CICEK question my dumpster is set to 30 days. I tried multiple messages. Even messages that I had just deleted and emptied from deleted items. And again I can recover those same messages from another PC no problem.
In regards to the Windows profile may be corrupted I thought about that too. But what is interesting as using the same Windows profile if I login to a different mailbox I don't have any problems either.
I'll try fixmapi.exe as that seems like a good idea.
One last bit of additional information. My Outlook has hung and crashed on me several times of the past. It has happened when I've been connected to differernt mailboxes. From memory the debug mentioned something about a sharing violation. Maybe I should
turn off my anti virus to see if there is a corralation? -
I am unable to recover my purchased ringtones from the itunes store. Does anyone know how to do this?
My account's balance shows at the top left of the store's page on my computer's iTunes, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option. If yours doesn't show (you've tried logging out and back into your account to see if it then shows ?), and you didn't have any pre-orders or auto-renewing subscriptions that might have used it, then you could try contacting iTunes support and see if they can help : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

I was running Lightroom 3.6 with the OS Windows XP (Sp3). The whole system crashed, I am unable to recover the serial number. I then upgraded my OS to Windows 7 (x64) and down loaded Lightroom 4.4, I wanted to buy a licence so I then upgraded to Lightroom 5, now when I try to register I am asked for the original licence/serial number. Where do I go from here??????
If you upgraded from 3.6 to 5 (you didn't indicate buying 4.4) then you will need the serial number from 3.6 in order to be able to use 5. If you did not keep a record of it there is a chance it might be available thru your Adobe account online, but if not, there is likely not much you can do except to return the upgrade and purchase a full version. Try contacting support using chat and explain your situation to see if they can help.
Serial number and activation chat support (non-CC)
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/service1.html ( http://adobe.ly/1aYjbSC )
If you did purchase 4.4 then that should be sufficient to use to activate 5.
I can never be sure what goes on with Lightroom, and the Adobe site (even when it works properly) makes finding information about products difficult these days so I am at a loss to confirm anything I say. -

Unable to recover Windows 7 Starter version!! Please help me !!
Dear All,
I was accidentally switched off the power cord whilst I was installing software since then, I was unable to recover my Windows 7 Starter in my HP Mini 1100 (Intel Atom). currently, I am trying to recover my Windows 7 Starter through HP Instant Web but to no avail !!! Please kindly help me to recover my Windows 7 Starter in my HP Mini 1100 ( Intel Atom). Please help......thanks......Beginner00.Hi,
Here's an alternative option you could try.
You can use the following method to create your own Windows 7 Starter 32bit installation media.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the entire 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create Windows 7 installation yourself using another PC. However, there is no download directly available for Windows 7 Starter, so you'll need to download another version ( any one will do, but the link below is for Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit - the source is Digital River ).
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32bit.
For the key on your COA label to work, you will now need to use the method described in the following link to convert this ISO to an all-version installer– the section you require to modify the ISO is Stage 1 Universal DVD ( although you’re going to be creating a usb installer, the method for modifying the ISO is the same ).
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/85813-windows-7-universal-installation-disc-create.html
Once done, use an application such as Rufus to create a Windows 7 bootable usb flash drive.
Use the Flash Drive to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Additional drivers and software you may need for your notebook can be found by entering either the full Model No. or Product No. Here.
Regards,
DP-K

Device Failure unable to recover
been having burning problems. My machine is almost three years old. Recently it it has been saying "The attempt to burn a disc Failed. the devise is unable to recover or retry." About every tenth try it works. I've updated all software. It occurs in both mp3 burning and audio and data. Help
EXACTLY the same problem -- I'm getting the run-around as to whether it is because of recent iTunes updates or relates to the Matsushita drives they put into these.
The problem is widespread -- slowing the burning speeds HAS NOT helped. -
Unable to recover database after rman recovery and database open resetlogs
I am running Oracle 10.2.0.5 on OpenSUSE 9. I have been trying to upgrade the database to 11g, through dbua. I was getting stuck at one point during the Oracle Server install and the upgrade failed and I was forced to restore the database to an earlier backup.
Below is the current place that I am stuck. As you can see I opened the database multiple times and reset the logs. Now I am afraid that my controlfile and redo log backups are out of sync and i can't get them back on track. Before when I actually got the database recovered RMAN would immediately throw:
RMAN-06900: WARNING: unable to generate V$RMAN_STATUS or V$RMAN_OUTPUT row
RMAN-06901: WARNING: disabling update of the V$RMAN_STATUS and V$RMAN_OUTPUT rows
OPA-00600: ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: ...
The database would open with ALTER DATABASE RESETLOGS but any query on non-system tables would fail and throw:
ORA-04045: errors during recompilation/revalidation of LCRS_DEV1.FACILITY_REF
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [17069], [0x1158ED180], [], [], [],
I hope I have not dug myself into too deep of a hole here.
Here is the trace from my most recent attempt.

Some more history - I'm not too techie so added everything in I thought might be significant!
- Installed Mavericks on iMac in October 2013
- experienced regular low memory issues - used Memory Clean app as a workaround
- last week decided to upgrade installed memory from 4gb to 16gb. Faster loading but still running out of memory - just takes longer to do so.
- also last week purchased 2gb Time Capsule (to back up 660gb on 1TB drive)
- one successful Time Machine backup completed last weekend.
- I decided to try and clear some space, tidy my folders, old music files, delete duplicates etc (Not system files)
- then tried out 'time machine restore' just to test it out. Deleted files and folders recovered ok using Time Machine menu (the one that looks like outta space)
- yesterday, Avast Anti-Virus flagged virus detected (sorry, I didn't manage to capture details) and quarantined file, but I couldn't get any windows to respond so forced Mac to shutdown.
- attempted regular reboot , system hanging on white/ apple symbol screen.
- attempted Safe reboot - reboot stalls at mess 'BootCacheControl: unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist no such file or directory.
(I don't know if this is significant)
- attempt NPRAM reset, reboot hanging at Apple symbol still
- attempted reboot into Disk Utility. HD drive verified ok. Permissions checked and Safari permissions fixed (only)
- finally attempting restore from Time Machine Backup via Disk Utility. Stalls at 'select a backup source'. Menu is 'searching for Time Machine Backup....'
Nothing is listed, after a few mins machine just goes to sleep.
My Time Capsule and networks are all switched on. No idea what to try next! Most of the problems like this that people report on this forum are due to bad "utilities" like Memory Clean and Avast.
Your Mac probably didn't have a virus. There has never been an OSX virus "in the wild". Third party antivirus software is of very dubious utility on Macs. Macs are not PCs. OSX has anti-malware protection built into it already.
Do you have any other third party "utilities" on your Mac, such as CleanMyMac or MacKeeper?
Is the RAM you installed the recommended type of RAM for your Mac?
Take a look at this page: Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
But your OS may be damaged beyond repair, or beyond what disk utility is able to repair.
In that case you have a few options:
There is a small chance that a (reputable) third part utility like Techtool Pro 7 may be able to fix your OS.
Try to boot into single user mode (restart, hold down ⌘S until you see a black screen with white text) and repair your hard drive. Here's a reference with directions: Repair Your Hard Disk in Single User Mode | Everything Macintosh
bite the bullet, boot into the recovery partition or internet recovery, and erase your HD, reinstall Mavericks from scratch, and start over. Your documents are probably still on your Time Machine Backup. I wouldn't reinstall the documents via a migration- you don't want to reinstall bad system files along with your documents- but you could copy them one by one back to your internal HD. And most importantly- don't reinstall any third party "utilites" like Memory Clean or Avast (or any other third-party antivirus software, for that matter). -
I have a Sleekbook 14 b109 purchased from an ebay reseller preloaded with windows 8.1. Window 8.1 Update has caused many of my preloaded apps to stop working. By utilizing information from the forums, I got the store app working, but most others still don't work. Strangely Office 365 continues to work great. Refresh also does not work. So, I have come to believe I need to restore/reset the PC.
But, I failed to create a 8.1 restore USB (no DVD) after I got the system. I also have been unable to find the product key for my windows software. Even if I had the product key, I wouldn't want to create the recovery media now because of the state of the software. So my question is, what are my options?
Probably the easiest would be to purchase a download version of windows 8.1, reload the PC, and create a recovery USB. Once that is complete, I could attempt windows 8.1 update again. At that point if it messed up again, I would have everything I needed to recover. Looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance.Hi Ljtinnin,
