Unable to reinstall Win8 after downgrade

I must be missing something very fundamental...
I have a brand new W530. It came with Windows 8 Pro. I bought the Windows 7 restore disks from Lenovo because I was too late in changing my order from Win8 to Win7. I installed the Windows 7 Pro platform...mostly painless provided you access the owners manual and read what BIOS settings must be changed in order to facilitate the downgrade (one thing not mentioned is the disabling of the secure boot feature). Now for undebatable reasons, I want to go back to the Windows 8 platform. BEFORE downgrading I created a USB Windows 8 restore drive (not rescue, but a full 14 GB installation). Now when I boot from the USB drive I do not see any option to reinstall Win 8. If I pick the USB device, the unit simply reboots back into the boot menu on the USB drive. IOW, I simply can not figure out how to reinstall Windows 8 Pro from the USB thumb drive. I hope I dont have to order the actual disks. Any suggestions?

OK...I got it doing something. Not at all intuitive! The link above describes having an image of Win8 on the target drive or a blank target...I have neither because the win7 disks overwrite everything and puts a win7 image in its place so I dont see Win8 as an option but I do see Win7 as the "target O/S". So I pick it and then HAD to pick "use current partitioning". It would not let me repartition the space...indicated the drive was too small...??? So the unit is at 45% of something...I still dont know what O/S I will end up with at the end. The process is not very intuitive at all...should be a button to "replace the current O/S"  or "repair the current O/S". Will re-post at the end.
There doesn't seem to be any fully correct instructions because I didn't read anywhere that "secure boot" had to be turned off to even get anything started. I would think it to be a fairly easy and seamless process to go from win7 to win8 and vice versa especially on this machine.

  • Unable to open pdfs after downgrade from PS  CC 2014

    Greetings.
Our office has several seats of Creative Cloud, and our workstations are all Macs.
When InDesign and Photoshop upgrades to version 2014 were released, I installed them on our computers; only to discover that the upgrade is not compatible with OS X 10.6, so I had to downgrade - InDesign docs created in 2014 are not readable by InDesign CC.
Anyway, since then, I have one user who has followed the same procedure for some time, to create a pdf, which is as follows:
    - Open an AutoCAD dwg file in AutoCAD (in Windows), and save as a PDF 'Drawing 1.pdf'
    - Open PDF 'Drawing1.pdf' in Photoshop CC (in OS X 10.8.5)
    - Add Layers, and add information (colouring in)
    - Save PDF as a new PDF 'Drawing 2.pdf', saving the created Layers.
    - Open PDF in Adobe Reader to print the PDF.
This used to work fine, however now the PDFs that have been modified will not open - claiming they are corrupt either with the error message: 'This is not a valid Portable Document File (PDF) document. It cannot be opened.' or 'Adobe Reader could not open 'Drawing2.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).'
Of course this means that all the work done has been lost, as the file was closed after saving.
I am not sure if the downgrade is the cause, but this is the only thing that has changed since the issue appeared.
The user has an iMac running 10.8.5.
Any help with this would be appreciated!
    Cheers,
    m

    Hi MBP User,
Are you still facing this issue?
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall. Is this issue reproducible on other machines, if you have around you.
    Regards,

  • After un-installing Itunes, I am unable to reinstall.  I receive the following error message: microsoft.VC80.CRT.type="win32".version="8.050727.6195".publickeytoken="1fc8b3b 9a1e18e3b".processorarchitecture="x86". HRESULT: 0x80070424.  Help?

I had Itunes on my PC (Windows Vista, 64-bit) and it worked fine with my Ipod.  I purchased an Ipod nano, and it was not recognized by Itunes and I was instructed to un-install and re-install. After un-installing Itunes, I am unable to reinstall.  I receive the following error message: microsoft.VC80.CRT.type="win32".version="8.050727.6195".publickeytoken="1fc8b3b 9a1e18e3b".processorarchitecture="x86". HRESULT: 0x80070424.
I am also having trouble with Windows Updates, and receive the same error message: 80070424.  Perhaps the 2 issues are related?
If anyone is able to help resolve the issue so I can successfully install Itunes, I would greatly appreciate it!

I ran the sfc /scannow command, and yes the response was:   Windows Resource Protection could not start with the repair service.
A broken Windows Modules Installer then. It's a bit of an involved fix getting past it, but we've had success here with it in the past.
First, I'd strongly suggest setting up a system restore point.
Now try the Scenario III treatment from the following document:
Windows Update Error 80070424 in Vista
Head back into Windows Update and attempt to get updates again. If they still fail, this time with an 8000FFFF error code, try the following Microsoft document:
    Windows Update error 8000FFFF
If you get Windows Updates flowing again, stock up on any you're behind on (restarting the PC when requested to do so). This may take some time and may have to be done in several batches, depending on how far you've fallen behind. Basically, keep going back to Windows Update until it stops offering you new updates.
After the updates have been installed, restart the PC one more time (in order to ensure that any pending installs requiring a restart have been resolved).
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the 0x80070424 this time?

    In the Elements Organizer 13
The key to all this is to click on/select/highlight the Album that you have created in Local Albums.
Then make sure that the Sort By: (in the row below the highlighted "Media" header is set for Album Order.
You should see a number at the top left of each of thumbnails.
Then, click on the thumbnail that you want to move, hold down the click, and drag the thumbnail to the wanted new location
in the line up of thumbnails.
Often I had to press down hard on the drag.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
Also, in Edit Menu/Preferences/Keyword Tags and Albums/Enable Manual Sorting Options, I set all for manual.

I reinstalled my OSX today. Everything was fine, but I think I erred when I removed the reinstall drive after I hit the restart button. The setup assistant was never prompted and now the screen is blank. Does anyone know how I can reinstall the OSX without logging in or get the setup assistant? I need to redo, and have no clue what to do. Thank you for any feedback.

    Ok, I figured it out.

I reinstalled the manager but I am still unable to launch any of my programs from adobe. I tried to do a trail with a program and I am still getting the same message.

Davinci thank you for the update.
Please utilize any available uninstallers that are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once all of the available uninstallers have been run you will then want to rerun the CC Cleaner Tool.  You can find directions on the use of the CC Cleaner Tool and a download link at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.  After the CC Cleaner Tool is run then please reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop application from Creative Cloud Help | Creative Cloud for desktop.
The CC Cleaner Tool is designed to be used after running the uninstallers.  Without running the uninstallers first then a complete removal may not be possible.

Do you have another drive you can install SL on? If so, you can try installing SL on a 2nd drive, boot from that drive and use Migration Assistant to move your Apps and Data back from your Lion disk. I have not tried this, but see no reason why it should not work.

Acrobat 10 Pro: Unable to Install Updates After Virus Removed: Receive Error 1310 ?
Attempted to re-install the original Adobe Acrobat 10 Pro from the disk provided with the purchase; and it has put me in a trial; and is requesting that I purchase the software I already paid for, two years ago.

You can try a repair (may need to go to Control Panel>Programs & Features). A reinstall is a last resort, but if you go there be sure to uninstall from the control panel, run http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, and remove any part left of the Acrobat folder. Then reboot as the administrator and reinstall. Be sure to disable antivirus during the install.

  • Unable to open itunes after update

unable to open itunes after update

I had a user with the same issue after updates and I was able to resolve.
    I copied QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
I did so after uninstalling and re-installin, but I don't beleive that was necesssary.  Thanks to user thurdy.  This fix was from apple support for the error "iTunes stopped working".  Figured I'd give a shot and it ended up working.
For reference the user was receiving the following errors exactly:
"the procedure entry point ?fastfree@***@@YAXPAX@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library JavaScriptCore.dll"
    and
"iTunes was not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes.  Error 7 (Windows error127)"

  • Unable to open Pages after new hard drive

I am unable to open pages after recently having to get my hard drive replaced. I have a time machine that I could get the application/files off of, but when I try to open it it comes up with the message:
"Check with the developer to make sure Pages works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to re install the application. Be sure to install updates for the application and MAC OS X"
I have done all the software updates possible for both MAC OS and iworks compatibility, and nothing has worked. I do not have the original CD with me, so I cannot reinstall. Is there any other way to get the working version of the application off of my time machine?

    (1)
Enter mac App Store and check if it state that Pages is installed on your machine.
If it does, you may download Pages 4.0.5 thru this channel for free.
    (2)
Assuming that you aren't far from your original DVD for a long time, you may remove every files related to iWork '09 with my uninstall script
    then
download and install the trial version,
    don't run it
Trigger Software Update to download and install the required updater.
I apologize but I don't remember if the updater 9.0.5 apply the entire required changes.
After that you will have an up to date package which you will be able to use during 30 days.
When you will be back home, re-apply my uninstaller
install the package from your DVD
    don't run the apps
Trigger Software Update to download and install the required updater.
After that you will have an up to date full time package.
    To get my uninstaller,
    go to my iDisk :

  • Can't find iPhoto photos after downgrading to Snow Leopard from Lion

I had my photos on my External Hard Drive being used as a backup for TIme Machine.
After downgrading to Snow Leopard from Lion (my computer was running rediculusly slow likely due to being so close to the minimum requirements), I can not access any of my Time Machine dates prior to the date I downgraded. I have reinstalled Lion to try to access the files that way, but am having issues finding my old photos.
Any help would be appreciated as I've got about 15000 photos of my kids on there.

There are issues with iphoto which changes versions..
I would strongly recommend you do an archive of the TC before you do any more playing.
I presume the TC is the only place you have these photos stored??? So your entire library is hard disk erase from total annilahation.. not good!!
Load a real utility into Lion.. archive is not present on the new version.. why apple why??
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
You can then do a full restore to an external drive.. or something fancy..
    Pondini is the saviour here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/15.html
There is a specific section on iphoto and its pain.
I strongly suggest you read the entire section from Q14-18 so you actually understand what TM does.

  • Major problems after downgrading to 10.2--stuck in console

I just created a disaster after downgrading my old G3 iMac from Tiger down to Panther (10.2). When I did the installation from the install disc, I set it to archive the old system and save all user settings. After the installation, I could not log in to any of the users accounts with the old passwords, which I know are correct. I then booted from the install disc, went into disc utility, and repaired permissions. Then, I (perhaps stupidly) used the "reset passwords" utility to reset the passwords of all the user accounts (to the original passwords). After rebooting, I was able to log into to each of the accounts, but immediately after logging in, I was immediately sent to the console! ("Welcome to BSD/Darwin," etc.). I was able to log in through the command line, and did a ls -l to confirm that the directories were still intact, but my unix skills don't go much beyond that. After exiting, I got bounced back to the (graphical) login screen. Could someone please help me out of this mess? I do have a Powerbook G4 and an external bootable hard drive that I could use to boot from (in addition to the install disc, of course), if needed. Thank you!

    Paul:
I hope you backed up at least your Users Folder before attempting this major procedure.
Here are a couple of articles you may have already seen that pertain to the operations you attempted to perform:
Mac OS X: How to reinstall a prior version
Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature
Here is what I suggest you do to extricate yourself from your predicament. Boot from the external HDD and see if you can access the info on your computer and try backing up your Users Folder which contains your data and library. You can use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to clone it, or just drag and drop it. After you have secured your Users Folder then boot from the install disk of the OS of your choice, wipe disk using a simple erase, then reinstall your OS. You can then migrate your Users Folder back.
    Good luck.

  • 3520 driver unable to reinstall on Win7 Home Pro 64bit (hungarian)

    Hi!
I am trying to reinstall the driver/software package of this product because after about 3 weeks ago the scanning stoped working.
Now I am unable to reinstall the drivers. Windows says You have no permission. (even with built in Admin account)
In the device manager I can see the HP DeskJet 3520 series devices under "other devices" but every instance (plenty of them) is either in state "?" or "!".
The "?" states says that one of the driver dll is not signed digitaly (C:\Windows\System32\hpinkstsb011lm.dll)
If I also forced a manual install but the windows complains only in ful Administrato mode, that the Digital Signature is missing.
The HP official driver install package terminates after finding the device online. The USB install also fails.
The printer and the programs in associations however works well with an another computer (Win7 Ultimate 64bit English)

    Hi Shwetha!
Thank You but I am already tried that at first. The installer sais nothing about why it cound not find the printer neither on Wifi (infrastructure and also ad-hoc) nor with USB cable.
