Unable to relay audio to AirPlay speakers VIA AppleTV.

Hi,
So I just bought a Pioneer SMA4 Airplay speaker, which in itself is working perfectly (amazing sound BTW);
- iPhone > Spotify/AirPlay audio/video to > Pioneer: Check
- Mac > iTunes audio to > Pioneer: Check
- AppleTV2 > AirPlay audio/video to > Pioneer: Check
However, when I send audio/video from either iPhone/Mac to AppleTV2, it does not relay the audio to the (default selected) AirPlay speaker. The AppleTV then just sends the audio to my TV speakers (over HDMI).
(All software/firmware on all devices is up to date.)
Background;
Two reasons for doing this:
- I want to be able to watch movies on my Mac and stream the audio/video over AppleTV the AirPlay speaker.
- I would like to set this up as a multi (two) room solution; one speaker on optical audio + one speaker via AirPlay.
Hoping for a solution, or I'll return the AirPlay speaker...
Cheers, Joost

Ok thanks! I would say it is a design flaw, but that’s my 2 cents.

  • Airplay mirroring does not play audio on airplay speakers

    Hello!
I just got an airplay enabled hi-fi system and using it with my apple tv = very nice indeed. However, I just upgraded to Mavericks to use mirroring and when I do, the sound comes from the TV speakers and not the airplay system. It seems going into mirroring reverts the airplay setting in the apple tv menu where you select the speakers. I have also tried holding down the select button on the remote which does not bring up a menu with speaker options.
Does anyone know if it is even possible to use airplay mirroring and have the audio come from airplay speakers?
    Setup:
Macbook Air (mid '11) running OS X Mavericks v 10.9.1
Apple TV 3rd gen latest update
    Many thanks,
    Joakim

Repairing Permissions is a fairly standard Mac maintenance procedure. The particular problem I shared with you involved mirroring from a Macbook Pro laptop which I had just upgraded to Mavericks, partly in order to have the mirroring capability.
I have used mirroring from my iPad (which doesn't have the transparency of such maintenance tasks as permissions repair on mac computers with OSX) without any issues of any kind, so I can't address how to fix the problem on those machines.
One reason I wanted to have mirroring on the MacBook Pro was to have the features I prefer on it to the iOS environment on the iPad. Easier typing, easier navigation, and, it must be said, accessible maintenance procedures.
If you're interested in repairing permissions in OSX on Mac computers, though, I'll be happy to explain it, but you'll find it discussed many, many times on these support fora.
If your iPhone/iPad have the problem with audio that I had with my MacBook, then I think you should step outside the AirPlay discussions and go directly to the support communities for those devices to learn what, if any, maintenance tasks are available to users. This is beyond my experience.
I hope you have as much luck with your iOS devices as I did on the computer in this situation!

  • My ATV 2G with latest firmware doesn't stream audio to Airplay Speakers

    Hi everybody,
I have an AppleTV 2G upgraded to the latest firmware (5.1.1 / ios 6.0.1).
My problem is that it doesn't stream audio to my airplay speakers. I have the B&O Beoplay A8.
The speakers work fine with my ipad and iphone, but not the ATV.
I checked the aiplay settings, the speakers appear there normally and I have ticked them and they are the selection for the audio output.
Instead AppleTV audio is on the TV.
    Can someone please help me.
I got the speakers just for this reason. To listen audio from movies on ATV from the speakers.
    Every help is appreciated.

Timing-wise the problem coincided with upgrading the firmware on my Airport Express to 7.6.4 (reverting to the previous version doesn't seem possible).
Reverting to an earlier firmware version is possible with v5.6 of the AirPort Utility. Note: This version runs fine under OS X Mountain Lion but will not install without a workaround. Let me know if you need it.

  • Internet disconnects, wifi still connected but won't send audio to AirPlay Speakers

This is getting really frustrating. No one has any solutions, there was a UNIX command one that claimed to work for a lot of people, but it ruined my POS software and had to revert back.
Disconnects from everything connected to the router, but every single other device works fine.  This problem only occurs with my iMac, just like all of the other threads around the internet.

Some users with various Wi-Fi connection problems have reported that they were given the following instructions by Apple Support, sometimes with success. I can't vouch for this procedure myself. After completing the procedure, you'll have to recreate all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make sure you know how to do that before you begin. Taking screenshots of the preference pane may be helpful.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 2
    Reset the System Management Controller

  • No audio from Itunes Movies via AppleTV

I haven't been able to get any audio from any of the movies I stream from Itunes. Funnily enough, AppleTV works with Netflix and Youtube. The audio works here. Can someone help?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Could you please tell is where the movies you are playing from iTunes have come from. (I.e. are they from the iTunes Store or are they your own videos)

  • Airplay mirroring and airplay speakers

I would like to set up airplay mirroring so that audio gets directed to my airplay speakers and the images to the TV.
    LIke this:
    iPhone-->ATV-->Airplay speakers
I can airplay audio through the phone directly to the speakers, and I can also select speakers on the ATV and airplay audio from ATV apps directly to those speakers.. I can also airplay audio only from the iPhone through the ATV to the speakers, as long as I'm not mirroring.
However when I turn on mirroring, the audio always goes right to the TV and not to the speakers. I was told that what I'm trying do cannot be done with Mirroring. Is this right? Has anyone got this setup to work?
Would be nice if I can stream shows from a browser to the ATV and then audio to the Airplay speakers. So far I have not been able to get that to work.
    Help or advice appreciated, thanks!
    Sam

For what it's worth, I managed a workaround with VLC and Airfoil to mirror a video to Apple TV and send the audio to AirPlay speakers.   However, there's still the 2 second delay issue for most other sources, like Chrome and games.
It seems what's missing is a way on the Apple TV to redirect the audio to an AirPlay source while mirroring (holding down select does nothing in this mode, unlike Netflix or Movies where it brings up a source selection menu).  It would be SO COOL if this was implemented in a future ATV update - for all of us with projectors out there.

  • Airplay speakers from ATV2/3

In the settings-->Airplay section, it is possible to send audio to airplay speakers from apple tv. Example to another airport express or something. Does anyone know if this feature is restricted to audio from music only. When I play a movie, the audio comes from apple tv rather than the airplay speakers.
    Thanks.

Just audio from music, it seems.

  • Airplay audio from Apple TV via Express and Video to TV

    All:
I am hoping to play video to TV via HDMI and at the same time use the Airport Express connected to better speakers to play the audio via airplay.
Not using the optical out for audio as my speaker system does not have the optical input. I only wish the new apple tv 3 rumored to be out next week has one more audio output. In the mean time i was hoping apple tv could do the simultaneous airplay audio through airport express.
    Did anyone try this?
    Thanks

I have the same question, and have not found any way to mirror the audio portion of AppleTV video to Airplay speakers on my network.
But if your amp and speakers are close to the TV, you don't need to use the optical port. You could either use and HDMI splitter, or use the audio out on the TV to pass the audio to the amp/speakers.
NOTE: Latency may be one of the reasons Apple doesn't want to attempt this—the audio not syncing with the video... This weekend I am going to try using two third-party products, AirFoil and/or AirParrot, to see if I can stream video to the ATV and send the audio to other speakers. AirFoil has a video player built in that they say addresses the latency issue.

  • Is it possible to stream music to multiple sets of speakers via airplay direct from iphone4s on ios7 in the same way that you can in iTunes

Is it possible to stream music to multiple sets of speakers via airplay direct from iphone4s on ios7 in the same way that you can in iTunes / Remote?
I know this can be achieved by the remote app.
Airplay functionality appears only to support 1 set of speakers at a time?

Does anyone know how or if it's possible to stream my music from the iPhone to iTunes via bluetooth or wifi? Essentially I want to share the iPhone's library with iTunes (I know one can go the other way).
Here's why: I'd like to stream my music at work to my computer's speakers without taking the phone out of my pocket. I obviously don't have my home music collection on my company computer. And I figure if I place the phone on my desk to plug it in and play through iTunes, I could easily walk off without the phone. That would be bad (out of contact) and potentially sad (stolen).
It seems right now the only bluetooth connection to a computer is for the remote application.
Wait until November. Airplay/Airtunes iOS 4.2 announced for iPhone to iTunes/iTV. If you want a BT audio stream now, you can add a dongle to the PC for headset streaming.
As far as WiFi file transfer iPhone to iTunes, you can't. There's talks on it but nothing concrete. Except JB.

  • AirPlay Speakers audio syncing and other issues.

For awhile I have been having a lot of issues with AirPlay Speakers (that is, sending the audio from my Apple TV to my AirPort Express while syncing the video). These include:
Almost any app can have the audio go out of sync with the video. This usually can be fixed by pausing and playing again.
WatchABC Live repeating commercials and not going back to the show. (ABC 7 WABC NY on Optimum)
Certainly not the worst issue to have, but Hulu Plus will skip most commercials.
And now, Showtime Anytime is guaranteed to have the audio go out of sync for both live and on demand shows and it will not go back to normal unless I switch to my TVs speakers.
These issues have occurred since I had a 2nd gen Apple TV, and now I have a 3rd gen (Rev. A) with Apple TV version 6.2. The AirPort Express (802.11n 2nd gen) is right next to the Apple TV and connected to my AirPort Extreme via Ethernet, extending the network. I have tried connecting via Ethernet and it only seemed to lessen the issues slightly.

    Chris,
I also own a T400 and had huge issues with skipping audio. Try the following:
    1) Uninstall Intel Storage Manager and let Vista use the default driver for disc controller (I presume yours is by default in AHCI mode just as mine was).
    2) Then go to Control Panel -> Sound, select Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 and after clicking on Options, select Disable all enhancements under Enhancements tab (this is a time-proven trick I learned while using a Dell at work).
Pls let me know it this works for you.

  • I want to set my system audio out to my Airplay speakers (through airport express)

It seems like a simple feature to have.... system preferences>audio>main output then set it to AirPort Express, but no luck... any ideas on how to route system wide audio to Airplay? It would be totally ridiculous if this is not possible.

Sending audio sources, other than iTunes, via AirPlay will require a third party solution. One of them is Airfoil by Rogue Amoeba. AirPlay starts it journey from iTunes. In turn, iTunes uses a QuickTime CODEC to convert the audio to a format for streaming to an AirPlay-enabled "speaker" (AirPort Express, Apple TV, or other manufacturer's device that is AirPlay-ready)

When you set up the new Mac, you can use Migration Assistant to transfer both from your iMac and your external drives.  You can also use Target Disk Mode to drag over the things you want.

  • AppleTV to both HDMI and AirPlay speakers simultaneously

I have an AppleTV connected to home theater receiver via HDMI. I want to add wireless airplay speakers so I can send audio to them as we'll as through the stereo simultaneously. Will this work?

    That was my understanding too.

  • Airplay speakers keep disconnecting

I have a first generation airport express hooked up to a cable modem (via ethernet) and my stereo (via the 1/8 inch stereo jack). In the same room, about 8 feet away from the airport, I have a latest generation apple tv hooked up to a projector, connected to the airport express via wifi. The apple tv uses airplay to send audio to the stereo via the airport.
This set up will work for a time (anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes), and then without fail, the video I'm watching will stop as if I had paused it and the airplay speakers will disconnect. So if I then restart the video, the audio will play out of the projector's tiny speaker. I can, of course, navigate out of whatever apple tv app I'm in and go into settings to reconnect the airplay speakers, but this is extremely annoying, especially when this happens every single time I use the apple tv, and repeatedly. I can unplug and restart everything in my setup (the airport, the cable modem, the apple tv) and the problem will go away for a little while (maybe 30 minutes) but it always comes back. I'm really hoping to find a solution to this incredibly annoying problem. I've searched these forums, but haven't found anyone with a solution.
I have followed all of Apple's recommendations for wifi router settings. I have also used the wifi troubleshooting app to locate a radio channel that no one in within range is on (channel 10) and am currently using that channel, but it hasn't helped at all.

Have you tried any other channels on the router?
Connect the Apple TV via ethernet.
    Reboot ATV and Airport Express.

  • ITunes 10 won't play movie audio thru remote speakers

I just downloaded a movie and wanted to play the audio through my remote speakers. No sound. iTunes will play music files on the remote speakers, just not movies. Could anyone help me? I'd like to show clips of the movie to my students tomorrow!!

that's expected behavior. you can currently only stream audio from music files via AirPlay.

to do that, you need Airfoil. however, also check this: _*Preventing audio delays while watching videos with Airfoil*_.
