Unable to remove unused user variables (Captivate 6)

Even after removing all Advanced Actions, and every object on a slide, and every asset in the project Library, I'm still unable to remove any user variables. CPT prompts me that the variable is still in use; it's not.
Is this a known issue? What's going on here? Any workarounds?
Copying-and-pasting slides to a new project loses all the Advanced Actions and in-use user variables, so that's not an option.
For now, I'm just living with a cluttered collection of unused variables, but this is of course less than optimal.

Thank you, Lily. Your tip got me part way there -- I was able to remove some of the variables. There are still some legacy user variables that I'm unable to remove -- CPT still thinks they are in use; they aren't. Bah! I suspect there is some sort of file corruption at work.
Per your thought, I'm going to put in a feature request for a Usage function for variables. Great idea.

Removing unused "user" variables in FM

I have a chapter book we are working on with many user defined variables. I would like to update all of the variables in one chapter and then import the updated variables into all chapters. I know how to do this. However, I would then like to go into each individual chapter and remove any unused variables within each chapter so that I only have a list of active variables in each chapter and the list is not so long. As you may know, this is easily done in the book menu. For example, define the variables in the first file of the book (leave it open). In the book menu select all the other component files (they do not need to be open). Then perform a
File > Import > Formats
Import from Document [ FirstFileName.fm]
[Deselect All]
[*] Variable Definitions
[Import]
However, I would then like to go into each individual chapter and remove any unused variables within each chapter so that I only have a list of active variables in each chapter and the list is not so long. Any way to do this easily?
For generous definitions of "easily" ...
I open each book component file. Put the text cursor in some text, then...
Special > Variable
select a user var
[Edit Definiton]
[Delete] all of the user vars
when the "convert references to text" appears
[Cancel]
The deletions continue. The Cancels save all those in use.
Aftermarket tools doubtless streamline this.
I use a similar process for Xrefs.
Of course, the real problem often is multiple slightly variant defs and xrefs all trying to do the same thing. Those take a bit more work to clean up.

Shared Services 11.1.2 Unable to remove assigned user from a security group

In Shared Services 11.1.2 - trying to remove a user from the assigned users list of a security group. Initially, I am able to remove the user and the assigned users total decreases by one - but when I relaunch the group properties - this user is still in there? The change does not hold. AD updates no longer working also unable to remove old users Authentication

Currently on BO XI. I have issues with our AD authentication:
Our network team decided to move the AD group that we were using for Business Objects. Once they did this, no new users were being imported and invalid ones were no longer updated whenever we click "update" on the AD plugin page. The good thing is that all of the users are still there in BO and not deleted even though the group location in AD has been changed.
We changed the mapped AD location so that it points to the new location but we are still having the same problem. No new users are being imported and we are now unable to delete users that are no longer in the current AD location.
Whenever we try to delete a user that is no longer in the AD group, the system seems to just hangs. The new users are not being automatically refreshed and added to the user list unless we manually add them.
If you know what the problem is, please help!

We have run into a new issue that affects all versions of our product and supported versions of AD. If a group was migrated from 1 domain to another (using a tool such as the above link) which changed the group DN and SID (but doesn't delete the SID), then our product can produce symptoms such as listed in this thread. (CMS will no longer update, users no longer found, cannot add/remove groups, cannot login with AD)
rebuilding would fix as the new group DN and SID would be added but this is not desirable as data would be lost. The issue is extremely difficult to repair and we are currently working on a fix to make XI 3.x handle this situation better. If you are considering migrating groups from 1 domain to another do it by creating and mapping the new group in the new domain, adding the users from the old domain\group to the new one, assigning any permissions, then removing the old group from the CMS 1st then AD. If you have already migrated groups like this then you will most likely need help from support to see if we can manually fix or else rebuild your server DB (again this means all existing info will be lost).

Can you submit a User Variable instead of the Captivate Quiz Score variable to an LMS?

I am attempting to create two quizzes in a course that has branching. I know that Captivate only allows for one quiz if you are using Question type slides, but I am using a simulation to check the knowledge of a process. I want to report one of the simulation completions depending on which branch the user goes to (different branches for different products). How or is it even possible to submit user variables in place of the Captivate Quiz Score variable, the time in the course variable, and the Pass or Fail status to an LMS?

Sadly, I am using Captivate 5.5. I was thinking it should be possible to use Javascript to be able to take a specific variable and submit it to the LMS in place of Captivate's Quiz variables. I just don't know Javascript well enough to know how to do that.

Send Captivate user variables and values to the LMS ?

Hi all. has anyone got a clever way to send a bunch of Captivate user variables and their values to an LMS (Moodle) so that they end up recorded as part of the SCORM course results or do these need to be explicitly part of a Quiz ? I think that I can setup where I get these values from the Learner so that they take the form of a Quiz (even though there is not a right answser) and set the the LMS settings to record interactions and scores. But is there an easier way to send them via LMSSetValue or even using a widget ?

You can do it, but it will definitely not be the easiest way to achieve the objective. The accessibility of your web form will determine what you can and can not do.
The first issue would be populating the field of the form, and that can be achieved by actually re-generating the form programmatically and assigning a value to the html value tag for that field.
The second issue of "click on the button" is not trivial. If you're in the windows environment you will have to get into intercepting windows messages from the message queues and get the handle of the web browser window and after finding all the relevant information that will change every time this process is performed, is in my opinion not worth the effort.

fferently in looking at what you are trying to achieve in the first place and that is to do directly with the data what the form would've done.
Forms will either send some e-mail to someone using the submitted data or submit information to a database or write it to a file. If you have a cgi script behind the form you can pass the information directly to the script rather, i.e call the scrip directly in the same way the form would've using your program and skip the form.
If you can be specific about your objectives and give me details about the forms and detail on the web server type and the capabilities of handling various types of cgi scripts I can give you detailed advice and pointers towards achieving the solution.
Questions you need to answer:
What would the form do with the data? (mail, file, database etc.)
How many fields do you need to submit?
What type of web server are you running? (IIS, Apache etc.)
Were is the form hosted, on the www
or on an intranet?
Is it accessible to you to change/add scrips to it?

Unable to remove mozilla folder from C:\Users\Username\Appdata\

We're trying to remove Firefox as its messing with the roaming profiles on the server,
we're unable to remove the following folders
c:\program files (x86)\mozilla firefox
c:\users\username\appdata\mozilla,
error message says need permission from administrators (we're logged in as full domain administrator)

The problem lies in the administration patches. Somewhere one or more of the security updates was missed or ignored. The admin pointers to the permissions on the stack in the HAL layer are pointing to a NULL field. This is a common problem with MS(c) based OS's. Solutions: (1) Remove and Re-apply security updates in order. (2) reload and allow the OS' to catch all the updates. (3) Scream at MS(c) until they tell you what update you missed.

Create User Variable in Captivate via Widget / AS3 ??

I have created a widget which will load many variables into Captive from an XML file. This is great.
Now i don't want to create 100 user variables in the Captivate variables section.
Can you create a user variable within a widget/as3 that will load in Captivate WITHOUT creating the var in Captivate first???
And how might you do this?

I've had some time to figure this out... so here's what I've found.
When you place a caption on the Cp canvas, it's base AS3 type is an cpItem. Once you add a Captivate user $$variable$$ from the Variables Panel to that caption, the AS3 type becomes an rdCaptionItem which has an event associated with it... Once the variable value is changed, the caption text is automatically updated. You don't get that with a regular cpItem caption.
What does that mean? It means that the caption type is determined at design time and not runtime. So even though you can create variables at runtime, you can't update any captions because the type is still an cpItem with no events. For example, if I wrote the following AS3 code to create the vTest Cp user variable at runtime in a widget:
cpVariables.setVariableValue("vTest", "Hello World!", true);
cpVariables.SetVariableLength("vTest", 100);
and placed $$vTest$$ in a caption, nothing would get updated during runtime because the vTest variable was not created at design time. The caption is still a cpItem and has no associated event to update the caption text with the newly created variable value.
How can we fix this? You can't... as far as I can tell, you need to define the variable at design time in the Captivate Variables Panel. I thought about updating the caption myself by watching for changes in the variable by tapping into the WidgetEvent.VARIABLE_UPDATED event, but the newly created variable was not in the variableNamesArray for the callback... so there was no way to know if and when it changed.
Long story short, Adobe needs to provide a better way to make this easier for widget developers... and I don't see that happening anytime soon. Right now, the ability to create variables at runtime is somewhat useless. It may be good for inter-widget communication, but there's better ways to do that.

Unable to remove user from SharePoint Group using PowerShell

I am trying to remove a user from a SharePoint Group using PowerShell.
I can see the user in the Site Collection as part of the SharePoint Group, however, when I attempt to run the script, I get an error message stating "Can not find the user with ID: 10"

Try this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up

when i check the material document and accounting document,it was showing that said amount in negative sign and transaction done by MI10 means posted differences with out reference to document.
it means the user may entered wrongly i think.
was there any GRIR account for MI10?
MI10 does not have reversal or cancel?
so how to resolve it?
as per my idea it can be done by FI posting.

Display selection of user variables later on in project - can't get advanced action to work

Hi all,
I'm working on a sales training with Captivate 5, based on PPT. I want to do the following, but can't figure out how to design the advanced actions to do it:
The learner is asked to choose 1 of 3 products he wants to work with (ok, that's easy).
For that product he's asked to provide 10 features in TEBs (so far so good, 10 user variables created for each feature).
As a next step, he needs to choose the top 3 features with which he wants to work further. The chosen 3 display a check mark when the respective clickbox is clicked, when he chooses the 3rd, a 'done' button & a caption 'click here...' appear. Advanced actions working ok, see below what they look like. If there's an easier way to do that, please let me know - took me hours to get this to work!
One issue I face is, that I don't know how I could allow the user to change his choice, i.e. 'un-check'. Currently, checked is checked - no way for the learner to change his mind.
But even more importantly:
I need to display the content of the 3 checked/selected variables at a later stage in the project. So, say the learner choses feature 2, 3 & 6 as the most important by checking the respective clickboxes behind the displayed variables (v_neo_f1 to f10) - how do I need to change my advanced action, so that I can generate variables v_neo_chosen1 - 3?
As you see in the screenshots above, I've tried to do that by creating an additional variable for each of the 10 features and assigning the value 1 when it's checked. That way I could check later in the project, which of those variables has the value 1 - but I don't know how to link this variable (v_neo_f1_check) then to the variable for the feature in which the text I need to display is stored (v_neo_f1).
This got me a major headache & hours of frustration already - can any of the guru's help me out here?
If anybody is interesting in creating the necessary actions for me at a reasonable rate, please let me know. I'm bordering desperation.

I'm not sure I fully followed exactly what you are trying to do, but essentially what I got from your post is that its pretty complicated and you want to create new variables on the fly.
For that sort of thing I would suggest that advanced actions may not be advanced enough for what you are trying to achieve and that you should go for a Flash Widget instead.
For anybody getting started on widgets, I throughourly recommend the Widget Factory by the Widget King, which can be found at:
