Unable to repair disk (Partition map) Please HELP !

Hi,
I have the weirdest problem with my 15" retina macbook pro.
Earlier today, OS X automatically rebooted after some kind of bug. I was then unable to start the computer, wether it was through recovery or as usual.
Started in Safe mode, Backed up with time machine, and restored system.
I'm now able to boot as usual but when I launch Disk Utility, I detects an error. Please find DU log at end of this message.
When I click Repair Disk, I continuously get the same error message (this disk needs to be repaired).
Any ideas how I can get this error fixed ?
Thanks so much !

If you have a backup (for both OS's: OS X and Windows) you might try with booting to single user mode and use fsck tool: Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck - Apple Support
But if that would be my own mac i would probably create myself a Recovery USB Disk or Bootable OS Yosemite Installer Disk and repartition my Hard Drive and then reinstall OS X and restore data to it. If Disk Utility is reporting an issue with Partition Map Scheme i would be a bit anxious about my data stored on this drive...

  • HT3275 I continue to get the following error message: Unable to complete back up.an error occurred while creating backup folder. It's a brand new drive. When I attempt to repair it using disk utility I get:unable to repair disk cannot unmounted

I have been trying to use time machine on a new lacie 2tb usb 2 drive for back up. I continue to get: "unable to complete backup. An error occured while creating backup folder". When I use disk utility to repair I get another error message: unable to repair disk unmountable.
Help me Obie One Canobie you are my last hope

I have confused myself with the facts!  Started out keeping track of every step and every variable but have sort of lost it as we progress here.  First I quit all applications then swapped connections between mouse port and backup disk port to influence possible bad connections question.  Changed power outlet receptacle for the backup disk. Disabled the put-the-HD-to-sleep option.  Then powered down the computerator.
Next started up computerator.  Turned Time Machine ON  and experienced multiple successful backups!  Then I started up a few applications, Mail and Text Edit (but not Safari so far).  Had a few more successes.  After each backup, I used Disk Utility to verify the backup disk is still OK.  This because the error about unable to unmount the backup disk seems to go hand in hand with Disk Utility finding the backup disk to be bad.
Put computer to sleep for the night.  Upon starting up in the morning, and before doing anything else, I did a backup disk verification... BAD!   Did a restart and verified the backup disk... OK.
Did a few    Sleep-bad, Restart -OK    repetitions.
It seems consistent:  Sleeping the computer apparently messes up the backup disk but doing a Restart "repairs" it.
    =============================
Now then, I don't understand everything I know here.  Methinks that maybe keeping the HD from sleeping during lulls in activity has allowed successful backups through the day but manually putting everything to sleep for the night causes a return to the problem of spinning-back-up-too-slowly (which was explained earlier).  Is there any truth in this?
I may abandon this Seagate thing for something more compatible.  What's out there that we know works reliably for us?

unable to Repair Disk unless the full Verify Disk process has finished, is there an easy fix option, or does it signify a bigger problem?

Were you booted up from your install disk when you ran Disk Utility? If not, you'll need to try that and see if the disk can be repaired. If it can't, and you don't have a recent clone that is not damaged to replace the contents of the startup disk with, then Disk Warrior is the best option.

  • Disk utility unable to repair disk. What next?

Disk utility unable to repair disk. What next?

I encountered the same problem. After verify disk, I got the message to repair the disk. But it was unable to complete the repair. Rather than purchase Disk Warrior, I tried something else.
What I did was reinstall the OSX (this iMac is still on Leopard). I backed up everything, naturally, before doing the reinstall. I chose the "Archive and Install" option, along with "Preserve Users and Network Settings". This method moves  existing files to a folder named "Previous System" and imports existing user accounts, network settings, and home folders into the new OSX.
After the successful reinstall, I ran Disk Utility. It checked AND repaired Permissions. It verified that the disk was fine and no longer needed repair.
If this didn't work, my plan "B" was to reinstall the OSX again, this time with the "Erase and Install" option. Fortunately, I didn't have to go to plan "B".

  • HT5467 Hi am unable to locate the SIM Tray please help me

Hi am unable to locate the SIM Tray please help me

SIM of an iPad is located about 2 inches from the bottom at portrait view (not landscape view) on the same side of the volume button.
Use a needle to poke into the tiny hole of the SIM tray.  With one swift pull, you should be able to eject the SIM tray.  It could fly off if you pull too hard.  So be careful of your strength of pulling.

  • Startup disk partition map repair difficulties

Disk Utility is reporting that "The partition map needs to be repaired because there's a problem with the EFI system partition's file system." However, after booting into the Recovery HD and attempting to repair this, I keep getting the error, "Live file system repair is not supported." And yet I can verify that I am definitely not booting from the startup disk so I don't know why or how this is happening. Any ideas on next steps short of backing up, reformatting and wiping the drive?
Thanks in advance for any guidance!

    Hi Richard,
If you are having issues resolving a disk issue when booted to the Recovery partition on the internal hard drive, especially issues regarding partitions themselves, you may want to try creating a Recovery System on an external volume, as outlined in the following article:

  • Partition Issue - Please Help

I had 3 partitions on my main hard drive (Macintosh HD, Old Files, Files).  So I tried to delete the "Old Files" partition using the minus (-) button, it said it wouldn't delete the other 2 but after it finished doing that it only left a "disk0s4" partition that is grayed out so I can't repair or mount it.  How can I recover the other partition, the log clearly says it didn't erase the "Files" partition but I can't find it and don't know what happened. Please help.

I don't know if it's a new problem, or part of the ame one, but FWIW here's my story:-
I'd bought a new macbook pro when they first came out, with Tiger installed. I kept it up to date with software updated, but never went as far as putting BootCamp on it. When I got Leopard, I installed it as an update. The system was set up with a single HD (journaled).
Came the time that I wanted to install Boot Camp, I started up the BCA and tried to partition he HD to have a 32GB partition for Windows. BCA refused to partition the disk, saying that 'some files cannot be moved'. SO I backed up, and did a clean re-install of Leopard, but first I went to Disk Utility to create two partitions , one for Mac and one for Windows. Created a 32GB partition called BootCamp at the end of the hard disk.
Stuck the Windows XP Home 2002 (including SP 2, for 'users with windows 95 or earlier, or pcs without windows'. an BCA to start the windows installer. Installation copies all the files to the Windows partition (re-formatted as NTFS) and gets to the bit about 'restarting in 10 9 8... '. Then reboots and says 'hard disk error. press any key to restart.'
I've tried using the 'repair' option on the boot CD. Not as easy as it used to be in NT. I tried a 'fixboot' assuming that the boot sector might be improperly installed, but no change.
Next plan is to get the installer to hard reformat the partition. Any one with any ideas further than this?
    Regards, Andy

    Hi alexandros.c;
If after doing what Michael suggested you are still not able to repair your disk, you may need a more powerful such as DiskWarrior to repair it I have found that when the the disk has problems that the tools within OS X are unable to repair then DW usual does it.
If DW is not able to do it for you about the only other alternative is to reformat and start over again.
You should have a good backup before doing either of these solutions to protect yourself.

  • Adobe Photoshop Scratch Disk Full/Startup Disk Full error - PLEASE HELP

    Dear ALL,
I have started to notice recently that when I run Photoshop CS on my Mac OSX Tiger, I am getting the Startup Disk Full error message. Never happended before.
Since my initial post I downloaded Macaroni (utility) and have run the daily/weekly/monthly backups, checked the /private/var/vm and /private/var/log and /Volumes. Nothing unusual there...
When I started getting this error I had 32GB left on a looked at my HD and I seem to have 32GB available on a 152GB drive. Now after deleting I have 76GB capacity left.
But when I tried to open a Photoshop PSD or TIFF file and do a crop I still get tge Startup Disk is Full error followed by the Adobe Photoshop error Scratch Disk is Full.
I am thinking of running the Disk Utility from the Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and doing a Verify Disk and Verify Disk Permissions followed by Repair Disk Permissions. I will be logged into the machine whilst doing this. Is there any danger in this as I have read elsewhere that I need to do this from a bootable volume. If that is the case how do I create a bootable disk/cd? If not then what is the cure to my Disk Full as surely there is now nearly 50% FREE!!!!!
    Please help.
    Max

PS will always use the boot disk for scratch to some extent even with an alternate primary scratch disk.
Be sure to turn off Spotlight as it causes problems.
4GB of RAM would be nice, I understand small files don't work well if there is more than 4GB RAM but large files will. OS X uses free RAM as cache and RAM disk before using disk drives.
How much RAM is allocated to PS? More RAM would help.
A dedicated lean boot drive helps. Install just what is needed for your work, use a separate drive for data, and yet another RAID volume for scratch.
When in doubt, backup with SuperDuper, and do an erase and then restore. Always backup before repairing; and never, ever, use an old version of Tiger CD/DVD - like 10.4.2 on 10.4.7/.8. Use "fsck" instead, or your emergency boot drive.
Also, give Applejack a shot and delete the cache folders and swap files from time to time to keep a system humming. CS/CS2 and Tiger benefit nicely from more RAM.

  • Recovery HD Locks, Unable to Repair Disk

Experiencing a slow computer and erratic behavior I have run the disk utility.  Repair disk unavailable so ran Verify Disk.  It was unable to complete this process and directed me to restart the computer holding Control R until Apple logo appears.  This brings up the disk utility and I used down arrows to highlight the repair disk option.  Then nothing works.  Tried to hit return, continue button etc but nothing happens.  Must turn off with the power button and start again.  Have tried this several times with no success.
I have a MacBook Air Late 2010 running OSX 10.9.4.
Thanks for any feedback you can provide
    Peter

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
