Unable to resolve machine names - Anyconnect
We have an ASA5505 configured for client and clientless VPN access. When using the AnyConnect VPN client, we are unable to resolve machine names without having to fully qualify the domain. For example, instead of specifying exchange we must specify exchange.domain.com. We can connect/ping using IPs. When using the Cisco VPN Client, we are able to resolve names just fine using only the machine name. Both connections show the same correct WINS and DNS servers. I'm not sure where to start looking to resolve this. Any ideas? Thanks!

Why can't a MAC find other computers connected on the same network
It such a basic thing, It almost make the imposable to us a mac. One way other people use to get around this problem is to run windows on a mac instead, But I don't understand why.Check out this link - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2496619&tstart=15
It might assist in isolating/troubleshooting the issue. Can you ping via Network Utility? Did you try and DNS cache flush? -
Unable to resolve service name
I am vishnu prasath.i am a reader of oracle magazine.
I need a help from you.I have installed Oracle 9i
in my machine.when i was installed it asked me to enter
SID.i entered as specified in the example ie test.acme.com where as Globaldatabase name=test.when i tried to work with SQLPlus it is showing error "TNS protocol error".how to change tnsnames.ora file.
i saved tnsnames.ora as tnsnamesold.ora and i tried
to enter the following
tnsnamesold.ora:
Test.acme.com =

(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host=localhost)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =

even after changing it is showing the same error.
Please send me correct tnsnames.ora according to the
above information.
i hope you a positive reply.If the client ( sqlplus ) and the database ( 9i ) are

I can ping the Server's IP Address from any workstation on the network,
but when it comes to trying to ping by Server Name, I get the following
error message "Ping Request could not find host X. Please check the name
and try again."
The server is inside a private network and the Firewall Router takes care
of the actual IP addresses to the workstation.
I would appreciate any positive feedback to this question.
Thank-youRod,

Do you have a DNS server on your network? If so, you need to add an A
record for the server to it.

INS-40922 Invalid Scan Name - Unresolvable to IP address
Hi
During grind (Latest version) installation on Oracle Linux 5.7 I am getting the subject error, the /etc/hosts file contains the following entries on both nodes ( I am not running DNS) :
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

192.168.2.202 rac-scan.localdomain rac-scan

The IP addresses for rac-scan are not attached to any network adapter therefore are not resolvable, its a test setup just to check out the grid infrastructure, I have setup the nodes on vmware workstation.
Should I add another adaptor, one each on both nodes, and assign the rac-scan ips to them ?
Please help me fix it.

VersaMail - "Unable to resolve name" error for mail server
I've had an intermittent but frequent problem with VersaMail when I try to connect to get my email. I frequently get the following message:
"Unable to resolve name pop.mindspring.com. Check your DNS settings or enter the IP address for your mail server."
I also get it occasionally for my Yahoo.com mail addresses as well, so it's not unique to Mindspring.com. Sometimes it happens a lot, but sometimes I get right in with no problems, so the settings I have appear to work - when they want to. Needless to say, it's frustrating and annoying, so if anyone has a way to resolve this, I'd appreciate knowing it.
Thanks.

This question was solved.
View Solution.Problem solved! I had Googled for answers and had found an explanation of DNS servers on another forum where someone was having a similar problem. It seems that DNS servers simply take the domain name we use and search for the IP address for that domain name, then hook us up to that IP address. The error message I was getting was that I needed to check my DNS settings or enter the IP address, so it seemed only logical to me that if I could bypass those goofy DNS servers with their "now I'll do it, now I won't" bad attitude, perhaps I could connect directly with the mail servers. Your tip on how to find the IP address of the mail servers by pinging them was the missing piece I needed. I deleted the POP and SMTP server names for each account I'd set up in VersaMail, replacing them with the appropriate IP addresses, and I can now connect reliably with any of the servers, first time, every time - and lightning fast.
Thanks for your help!

Name: rac-scan.example.com
Address: 133.22.67.194Hi,
I don't see any issue with your SCAN Name resolution. SCAN name should be registered in DNS and not in /etc/hosts.
Oracle documentation says, SCAN name should resolve to 3 unused IP Addresses in Round-robin fashion which is fine in your case.
Proceed with your installation.
Thanks

FRM - 40105 : Unable to resolve reference to item item name
Hi,
FRM - 40105 : Unable to resolve reference to item <item name>
When I am opening a form I am getting the above mentioned error. Instead of <Item name> how we can display the error like <:CTRL_BLK.DOC_DATE>
Thanks & Regards,
JensonHi,
Actually I know what is the reason for getting this error. What I tried to ask you is any way to display the item name, which error is occurred.
In the form around more than hundred item setting the SET_ITEM_PROPERTY , there only I am getting this error. Like this around more than five form I have to debug. I would like to know through error handling routine or some other code we can display the exact item name, which error is occurred.
Thanks & Regards,

Kindly Help,
ImranHi Imran,
If you are going to use SCAN for serious client connectivity , then it should be registered with the DNS .
Putting SCAN name in /etc/hosts file will only provide you a workaround during installation.
If you don't have a DNS setup , then use tns entries with VIP names.
If you want to use SCAN for client connections, then
1. configure SCAN in DNS and make sure nslookup scan-name resolves to 3 IPs
2. Use SCAN name rather than IP for HOST in your tnsnames, jdbc URL . Currently you've set IP in your tnsnames , (HOST = 10.168.20.29 )
3. Now, set REMOTE_LISTENER = scan-name:port on all nodes so that SCAN listener can handover the client connections to the least loaded local listeners. -
