Unable to restore a sitecollection backup
Hi,
I'm unable to restore a backup which was performed in the SP2010 to the other.
Backup taken in the server with version: 14.0.4763.1000
Tried restoring in the server with version: 14.0.6137.5000
when I tried this I was getting an error saying the taken backup can be restored in the version either 14.0.4762.1000 or the later but can't be done in this version. But while
seeing the numbers, could understand that 14.0.6137.5000 is a lter version not sure why this error is occurring. Please help me in this.
If I remember correctly you cannot restore pre-SP1 SP 2010 back to SP1+ SharePoint 2010 environment because of schema change. In your case your backup is from RTM and you are trying to restore to post SP1 SP 2010 environment (April 2013 CU?)
If possibile update your source to SP1 and then take the backup.
Update:
Go through this article. This should help.

Unable to restore time machine backup onto a new hard drive
I recently bought a new hard drive for my mid-2010 white Macbook. I have kept this computer regularly backed up with time machine, but just to be sure I made sure I hooked up my external hard drive prior to changing the hard drive and made sure it was fully backed up. I checked my exceptions and saw that my system files and applications were listed, so I removed them from the exceptions list and let it back up again (it only backed up a further 60MB though, so that made me a little uneasy).
I successfully switched over the hard drive and then plugged in my external hard drive so I could do a restore from Time Machine. My external hard drive has 3 partitions: 2 time machine backups for each of my computers, and one partition for storing files that also has an old copy of 10.6 on it.
When I booted the computer, I held option, then selected Macbook TM. When it came to the window with 4 options, including disk utility and restore from time machine backup, I selected restore from Time Machine backup. When I did so it said "No OS X Backups Were Found." Why wouldn't it have backups listed if I have been consistently backing it up? How else do I do a full system backup?
Also, how can I be sure that I'm restoring this backup onto the new hard drive? It didn't prompt me to select that drive at any point, and I want to make sure I'm not overwriting the middle partition on the backup drive (or anything else). Please visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
You will find that Mountain Lion stores an invisible copy of the Recovery HD. You can boot from your Time Machine backup drive by restarting with OPTION boot:
Boot Using OPTION key:
1. Restart the computer.
2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "OPTION" key.
3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
4. Select the disk icon for your Time Machine backup drive.
5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
Your computer should boot into the Recovery HD. You will be presented with a main window of options. Select the option to restore from a Time Machine backup then click on the Continue button. -
Unable to restore from a backup.....why?
I am getting the error:
"iTunes could not restore the iPhone Artic6 iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatiable with the iphone"
When looking at the log in the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Artic6\Application Data\Apple Computer\Logs\MobileSync
I get the information shown below :
2008-08-31 22:36:53.375|AppleMobileBackup.exe|3100:18294728|/SourceCache/SyncApplication/S yncApplication-421/Backup/IPodBackupTool.m:processMessageCallback| ERROR: Device Agent refused to restore: BackupErrorBadManifest
Nothing has changed with the backup except for the fact that I have a new phone with a new serial number....but the error I guess is in the mainfest.plist
I would like to know how to fix this....I would also like to point out that comments such as "your using windows" or "you have a screwed backup" are not really that welcome....
I really can not afford for this data to be lost...if this cannot be fixed then I will be moving over to Windows Mobile v6.1 as obviously the iPhone is too unreliable for proper usage.I've got the exact same problem. I've been on the phone with Apple support for quite a bit. I'd even tried modifying the info.plist to make the backup think that it was originally taken on this phone. No luck. They do have a MobileSyncBrowser.exe version for windows, and that can find my contacts (which is my major concern). You just need to pay the utility's author $20 to be able to export the data. I haven't seen anything about how to use that file to restore the data either.
Hopefully, 3rd level support will be able to give me a good answer. I'd originally gotten my iPhone on Friday night and I noticed on Saturday that I'd had a cracked case. I then had to run to the Apple Store (luckily there's one semi-close) and had to wait in line for a refurb'ed replacement. For having had this thing about 48 hours, it's caused me more headaches than any other phone I've owned. -
I Have just bought an iPhone 6 and want to restore my iPhone 4s via iCloud backup to the new iPhone 6. The setup of the iPhone 6 halted because according to the new phone it has iOS 8.1.2 whereas the backups were stored using iOS 8.2 following my updating of the iPhone 4S recently. How do I jump through this hoop? How do I update the new phone to iOS 8.2 without serring it up first? Anyone, please help?
Update the new phone to the same version that has been used to create the backup. In your case, the new device has to run 8.2 to be able to use the backup made with the other device.
Setting it back to factory settings will install the newest version and after that you can use the backup made under 8.2

Restore iPad 2 backup onto iPad 1
I recently had my iPad 2 stolen... My iPad 2 was backed up to the iCloud every night (when charging and connected to Wi-Fi) including the night before it was stolen. I have never used a computer to backup my iPhone 4 or iPad 2 and always relied on the iCloud.
I have access to an iPad 1 and was hoping to restore it to the backup of my iPad 2 however, when I choose the option to restore from backup, it says no backups available?!
Is it not possible to restore an iPad to backup onto an iPad 1?
I have attched images from my iPhone showing the backup on my iCloud account and further images of attempting to set up the iPad 1.
Any help hugely appreciated.
Thanks,
WillRead this and then click on the link in blue.
Additional Information
iTunes and iOS do not support installing backups of newer versions of iOS onto devices using earlier versions of iOS. If your backup was taken from a device that has a newer version of iOS installed, update your new device before transferring the information. To learn more, see iOS: Unable to restore from a backup of a newer iOS device. -
Unable to access time machine backup
Due to a crashed disk I am unable to restore from my backup and have lost everything. I can look at the data but I can't restore. I believe it has to do with the user account.
in the account section I am logged in as Administrator with the name Daniel McCarter which appears to have a space between the first and last name.
Underneath that is my correct email address.
when I look at the Backup the name of it is Daniel's iMac
Any help with straightening the out would be appreciated
DanThe right thing to do would have been to use Setup Assistant to restore the data: Move your data to a new Mac - Apple Support
If you have some reason not to want to do that, see below.
While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.
If you need to restore from a backup of the hidden user Library folder, first select a snapshot, then press shift-command-G. A Go to Folder dialog will open. In it, you'll enter the path to the folder. The dialog will help you by automatically completing the parts of the path when you start to type them.
The path begins with slash character ("/"). Enter that. The rest of the parts will be separated by slashes.
The next part is the date and time of the current snapshot. Enter a "2", and the rest of the date should be filled in automatically. Press the right-arrow key to jump to the end of the path. Enter a slash to start the next part.
Next is the name of the volume (usually "Macintosh HD" unless you gave it a different name.) Start to type that, then jump to the end and enter a slash.
The next part is "Users", followed by a slash.
Next is your (short) user name, which is also the name of your home folder.
Finally, enter "Library", then press return. You should now be in the Library folder. From there you can get around as in the Finder. -
Unable to restore and recover my Database from RMAN Backup
Dear All,
Iam practicing RMAN in Windows environment.
My configurations are
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 1; # default
CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON; # default
CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON; # default
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 'F:\Backup\%F'; # default
CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET; # default
CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION FOR DATABASE OFF; # default
CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM 'AES128'; # default
CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'E:\ORACLE\DATABASE\SNCFORCL.ORA';
CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT 'F:\Backup\%U.bak';
Then i took the RMAN backup, now iam shutdown my DB and removed one logfile..
then i tried to startup the DB but it is saying
ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 3 of thread 1
ORA-00312: online log 3 thread 1: 'E:\ORADATA\ORCL\REDO03.LOG'
So i tried to restore the Database with my rman backup
RMAN> restore database;
But i am unable to restore my logfile in the Datafiles location where as all other datafiles are restored but redo logfiles are not restored.
So, i am unable to recover my DB
Please tell me whether i am doing any mistake, what is the solution for my problem.
Thanks in advance
MahiAll you restored was your datafiles.
Now issue recover database and that will apply the archive logs.
This is in the oracle documentation.
"You must restore backups of these archived logs for recovery to proceed. You can restore either to the default or nondefault location. If you do not have backups, then you must performing incomplete recovery up to an SCN before the first missing redo log and open RESETLOGS."
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/osrecvry.htm
In this case after issuing restore database in RMAN, then issue this.
"Recover database"
It will then be an incomplete recovery. They should have been multiplexed. Did you restore your controlfile with this backup? You may have to issue an "Alter database open resetlogs;" -
I am unable to restore my backups from my Time Machine
MacBook Pro – My reformatted system that won't restore from my time machine - HELP PLEASE
I loaded Lion when it first came out and all my troubles started. (It was the same on my 24” iMac). Mail particularly hardly worked on either machine after loading up Lion but that's another story and I wish I had never upgraded to Lion.
I am now in China and took my MacBook Pro with me
To avoid mail problems I eventually used web-mail as all I saw was the coloured spinning wheel all day long otherwise
Gradually the machine got slower and slower and I saw that coloured wheel more and more
Eventually a message came up to say my Bootable Drive was almost full.
I checked and it wasn't full of MY documents. I see on this forum it's an Apple problem - reformatting and restoring user files will not help the problem
On 1st November I did a Time Machine backup that completed OK
Since then I had removed ALL documents safely to my Sony Vaio that we bought instead of another Apple Mac.
Despite removing ALL documents and emptying the trash for two users the HDD continued to fill up rapidly
I decided to do one more last backup on Time Machine so I could reformat the system – This backup never completed
I had to reformat the system as it was totally not useable by now
I had expected to put a Snow Leopard DVD in and restore my system without any problem - I have done this before on my iMac
I was unable to point the restore to my time machine as it has a WD lock partition and Apple restores don't recognise the drive may be locked!
No problem I thought, as I will do it later through the tools utility called Migration Assistant
I have tried several times with Leopard and Snow Leopard but cannot get the utility to work, as it is obviously picking up the corrupt “LAST” backup (This is a shortcut to the 6th November uncompleted backup
I tried to move the 1st November one to the last and move the other out as “”Corrupt”, but we are not allowed to change time machine files. Brilliant idea but Apple stopped it!
So, I loaded Snow Leopard and got it to see my Time Machine Files and restored first the Applications – No problem
Then Library – This failed as “You haven't permission” - What! Why? This is MY Laptop and MY files. Apple have to sort out this permission problem. I have had it three and a half years and it has driven me mad. It's a flawed way of working in my opinion. It took me three years to empty the trash because of it.
I then tried to restore the "System" folder which also has a library folder and that failed the same - Why doesn't Time Machine restore what it's told to? Is it because I called the MacBook Pro something different? It saw the backup files OK and gave me the option of the previous MacBook or my iMac that I also had on the same drive. I chose the MacBook but it would NOT restore the system.
Conclusion
So, I am stuck in China without my MacBook Pro and unable to restore my system and unable to retrieve the 1st November backup which was taken properly.
This means that I cannot run any programmes and do any work
I have wasted two weeks altogether on all the combined problems and without a usable system
Any ideas how to restore back to the 1st November please? Thanks in advance!UpdateAfter Advice from Apple
RESTOREPROBLEMS
I spoke from China on the1st December to a very helpful Senior Apple Technical person. He gave me my guidelines for a successful restore and we hung up.
Unfortunately, the backup hadn't enough space, so I repartitioned the hard drive and THEN followed his instructions.
At 6 am there was amessage to say it had restored OK (See screen-shot to say it wassuccessful) and so, I pressed OK to restart the MacBook Pro.
All I got was the same as before - a grey spinning wheel.
To cut a very long storyshort, I wasted the whole day trying to make a backup work to no avail. I came to the conclusion that this is yet another example of Lion not working, as I have never had this problem with Leopard and Snow Leopard.
I then got a screen shot of a message never seen before and that may help Apple ….
So, I sent them that screen-shot. Restarting did nothing of course.
Timeto stop the nonsense!
To cut my losses of many days wasted time over the last 5 weeks, I gave up trying to restore and as I have all the data safely tucked away on an external drive, Irebuilt the MacBook Pro with just Leopard.
I then put all theApplications back on one by one and it runs perfectly. Luckily I also had these with me in China!
Ablisteringly quick system on the old Leopard
In fact, Pages and AdobeCS4 are how they were when we purchased the machine 3.5 years ago -Blisteringly quick.
I have a mega large Pages Newsletter about China that I think was over 20 Mb before I shrank it, as it had many photos. This brought the MacBook running Lion to it's knees. On my rebuilt MacBook Pro running Leopard, it ran blisteringly quickly, even before shrinking it.
I managed to finish thenewsletter that I had started on the 21st October and we bulk emailedit out as a PDF 1st December from my MacBook Pro running Leopard.
In fact, the machine isrunning so well, that I think I will stick with Leopard.
LION
I always suspected the problem with Lion was it was constantly doing SAVES all the time that were in the foreground and not the background that I was unable to type in productively. My own opinion is that the developers had been trying to be TOO clever with Lion and for a busy person like me it crippled my productivity that went down by 50% and then eventually to ZERO %.
CONCLUSION
I would like to thank the Apple Technical person for his efforts on my behalf and felt that he should receive this update to close the case.
I stated that hopefully he can pass my observations to the LION TEAM Management or to whoever in Apple needs to see this feedback. The dozen or so problems with Lion have already caused us to go and buy a Sony Vaio instead of another MacBook Pro.
This anti-Apple attitude is by a person that for over 3 years was utterly and completely soldon Apple. No more, as Lion killed all my enthusiasm for Apple. My colleague as well. I asked the Apple Technical person to PLEASE pass this on! Whether he passed the report on I will never know! -
Does anyone know if there's anything I can do to get my app data back? All levels completed on games have been erased, and I am unable to use in app purchases which I did purchase, such as the Mighty Eagle in Angry Birds. Thanks for your help
Go to the Device tab in iTunes' Preferences and se what the date iis of the backup(s). Apple only retaines the latest backup unless you restor from a backup and that one is also kept.

Hello everyone,
I have a small problem that I can't seem to find a solution to. I have 3gs that I sync with my Dell laptop running Win7 and I'm using ITunes 9. When I go to sync, everything syncs fine, backups are creating and it seems that there are no problems. No errors are given once the sync/backup are complete. The other day, I needed to restore from backup. Here's where the problem comes in. After a minute or so of ITunes telling me it's restoring, I get a window that pops up saying something along the lines of "unable to complete restore because the backup session failed." I had about 6 backups available and they all came back with the same error trying to restore. After reading about this problem here in the forums, some have suggested turning off anti-virus software, making sure certain programs have been given access in a firewall. I've tried to sync with AV turned off, Firewall correctly set and even turned off and then continue with restoring, but i continue to receive the same error trying to restore. Any ideas on what might be happening?? I've saved my directories with backups and reisntalled ITunes, still no progress.. Thanks in advance for any ideas..

Unable to restore backup after updating iphone 4, because "not enough free space"
I updated my iphone 4 to v7 via itunes (v12), and in doing so, my camera roll was erased as were most of my calendar events. I am trying to restore the backup that I created just before updating, but I get an error message in itunes that says "itunes could not restore the iphone" because "not enough free space". There is 2.5gb free on my iphone, and I created the backup just before updating so there should be plenty of room. Does anyone know how to get the iphone to restore and/or how to put my pics & calendar back? itunes hangs up at the end while syncing too...
hello again, don't post twice the same question, it won't be answered faster.

Dear Sir,
I have forgotten my password of itunes, i have taken backup of contacts but is unable to restore . pls help i have my important data in back up.
Waiting for reply
ThanksEncrypted backup?
Read here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162
If the backup you're trying to restore from is encrypted, you will not be able to use that backup if you can't remember the encrypted backup passcode.
If on a Mac, & you elected to save the passcode to your Keychain, you can recover the passcode from your Keychain. Otherwise, your backup data is unrecoverable.
While you can continue to sync/backup, if you can't remember it & want to remove it, you'll have to delete your existing backups, & restore your phone as a new device.
You delete your existing backups here: iTunes>Preferences>Devices.
