Unable to restore after iOS 7

I have an iPad 2 and updated to iOS 7.03 (big mistake) which eventually prompted me to resort to trying to restore data. For six hours it would constantly reboot with no end (except to my patience) in sight. Any ideas that might actually work?

  • Unable to restore after IOS upgrade

I completed the upgrade for IOS 7.   I can see my applications in ITunes, but can not restore to my IPhone.  The directions under "APPS" says to "Select Apps to Install..."  but I can't drag and syncing does not restore.   From the phone if I select restore from ITunes, it shows that it is connected, but does not update.  Any ideas on what to do next.  Right now I have zero use of my phone!   HELP!!!

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Where did you acquire this iPhone?
What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

My 3gs wont restore after ios 5 update. I have tried firmware restore and restore from backup, neither works. All I get is "iphone restore failed because backup session failed" Any ideas on how to make a successful restore with this ios 5 update?

I was having the same problem, I backed up my phone and then updated to iOS 5 and then it kept telling me it could not restore from my backup as it had failed.  After reading a bunch of forums and posts and trying everything, I did manage to get it to work.  I had tried the Time zone, creating a new computer user account, disabling anti-virus, etc.
It took a combination of things, one of which was disabling the anti-virus completely and copying the contents of the backup folder to my desktop and then deleting everything in the backup folder.  Then I rebooted the PC, entirely disabled the anti-virus, copied the one backup I wanted to restore from the desktop to the backup folder and then trying to restore.  Low and behold the phone said restoring from backup and I am back in business, so when in doubt, trying combining some of the fixes together.

  • HT201210 iPhone 4s cannot be restored after IOS 7.0.2 upgrade

My iPhone 4s prompted me to upgrade to IOS 7.0.2 today.  After I initiated the upgrade the phone went to sleep.  When I tried to use it, it displayed the "connect to iTunes" message; once connected to iTunes on my iMac, I got messages that it detected an iPhone that needed to be recovered.  I tried several times, trying suggested ideas each time -- I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes on my iMac; I pressed both the sleep and home buttons til the apple appeared and then tried to restore -- but none worked.  iTunes seems to have lost the name of my iPhone.  First time I tried to restore the device list on the left listed its real name but subsequent tries displayed only "iPhone" and I got messages that it couldn't be restored due to an unknown reason with a code 4013.

I'm having the same problem with my iPhone 4, stuck in a boot loop, and each time I try to restore, I get hit with message 3014 when it starts 'Restoring iPhone Firmware".
I have rebooted several times, updated all software, redownloaded the ios file several times over etc, but still phone unable to restore, stuck in the 'connect to itunes' mode.

  • Unable to restore after Android Update

    Hi all,
After updating my Z1 to 4.4.2 I was unable to restore using the built in backup and restore app. The error message states that the selected backup cannot be used due to incompatability of the software!!!!
This should have been obvious to sony....
Also, opening the backup folder in the SD card is of no use since the files were encrypted.
Will any good soul help me restore or at least retrieve my files?
    Thank you!

You cannot restore the backup from JB to KK...You should have backed up on google servers,I think from there you could have restored easily.Try this link for the contacts:

  • Help w/a Restore after iOS 7.1.1!!!!!

I fully understand that the restore will delete all data and I have no problem with that.  I should of backed up my data before the update, but I didn't.  The biggest problem now, is that even after I hook up my phone to iTunes, the restore fails.  It always happens after it is verifying the restore in iTunes.  I've tried turning off the firewall, and my Mac is up to date.  Is there any other suggestions?  My phone is currently bricked!  The phone has never been jailbroken.

  • IPhone cannot be restored after ios 7 update??

I did the ios 7 update on my iPhone 4s last night. Mid update, my iphone gave the "connect to itunes" Screen. I connected to itunes and found that my iphone had enetered "recovery mode" and had to be restored. Tried to restore it and about 3/4 way through restore I get an error message that says " the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1)." I have done this serveral times now and each time I get the same message.
Mind you, I have tried restarting the iphone, I have charged the phone over night, I have tried using a different cable/different USP port, I have tried using a different computer, restarting my computer, "home/lock" button hold down. All I can get, regardless of all this, is an error message and a permantent "plug into iTunes screen."

  • IPad doesn't load, constantly restarts, and doesn't restore after iOS 8.1 update attempt.

    Hello all.
I have an iPad Air 16gb with 4g Verizon Card. My iPad was working perfect until I attempted to update to iOS 8.1. It went through the normal update routine but when it restarted that's where all my problems began. It would go almost to where the iOS would kick on but I got the Apple blue screen of death for about 2 seconds and then it would restart. It's been going through these motions ever since never going into iOS. After doing some research, I finally found out how to emergency restore the iPad by turning it off and turning it back on holding the home button until the itunes/lightning plug symbols come on the screen. Plugged it into my computer, loaded itunes, and attempted to restore. I downloaded a fresh iOS 8.1 update and the iPad would turn off and turn back on with the update bar below the apple symbol. After the bar appeared, the bar remained unchanged so nothing even loaded. Then a few minutes later, I received "itunes could not connect to this iphone. an unknown error occured (0xE8000084)." and then got the "iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4013)." Not really sure why it's saying iPhone either. I tried this three times getting the same result. I just tried restarting the computer and doing it again and yet I get the same result. Does anyone have any clue why this is happening and how to fix this? This is very frustrating because I'm in the military stationed in Italy but I'm about 3 hours away from the nearest Apple store and, not to imply anything, but they may not even speak English and having to take the train risking nothing getting solved. Any other ideas or help would be appreciated.

    Hi rsa12985,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that errors with iTunes errors and issues with your iPad not turning on can both be very frustrating and concerning. In this situation, with the unknown error 4013, I would suggest following the steps located in the attached article.

  • Why won't my Iphone 4S restore after iOS 7 update

I downloaded the IOS 7 update for my iphone 4s & after it finished downloading it turned off & then was turning back on and then I got the picture of a USB pointing towards Itunes. I've plugged it into Itunes & it still won't let me reset it, even though I have the newest Itunes, I'm running out of options and getting frustrated. I've held down the top button & the home button at the same time & it goes right back to the same screen. HELP PLEASE.

Restart your computer and then try to restore the phone with it again.
Also try this, plug your phone into the charger that came with it, which plugs into the wall, then reset it again by holding power and the home buttons like you did before.. It will probably go back to the screen you are seeing but that will be expected. After you do this try restoring with iTunes again.

  • HT4623 iPhone is asking me to restore after ios update, did I loose everything?, what do I do??

I updated itunes today (after I did a backup of my daughter's iphone), when we went to do the ios update on the phone, all looked ok and install began. Now it is asking to restore to factory, and nothing is showing up on phone at all.  What can I do?.....Did we loose everything?  Itunes looks normal. and library is there.

a large iOS update requires you to restore from your backup. If you did the update through iTunes, it should've automatically created a backup, so just plug it in and restore

  • Unable to restore after installing iOS5

I have an iPad 2 and downloaded iOS 5. I started the update process after backing up the device and syncing it to the latest version of iTunes. The upgrade indicated it was backing up the device and when I came back to check it's progress, there was an error about not being able to connect to the device because I had a security code. I entered the code and was greeted by a new screen that steps me through selecting some settings, connecting to my network and then giving me the option to restore from iCloud, an iTunes backup or setup as a new device. I chose from my iTunes backup.
All my contacts and calendar restored, and my apps.  But I did not get my video and music restored.  I tried manually adding the video and music and only the video was restored.
Then I got some error messages about a corrupted backup.  I did a back up at 10:30 am which shows up in iTunes, but the only option for a backup now is from 3:09.
When I try to sync I get the following message.  "This computer has previously been synced with an iPad or another iOS device."  Then it gives me the option of setting up as a new iPad or restoring from a backup.  The only option is the back up from 3:09 and when I click on that it says no such back up exists.
So do I need to set this up as a new device?
    I'm using a Windows XP SR3 computer.
    Thanks

As a last resort I connected the iPad to my Macbook which had the old version of iTunes 5.0 and no IOS 5 downloaded. It reloaded IOS 4.3.5 and the iPad came straight back up with all the apps, music and email on it without needing to do a resync with the host iMAC.
This seems odd to me that the old iOS would restore on it's own. I'm not aware that you can even do that without some user input to force the downgrade. And you would have to point iTunes to the old iOS restore file on your Mac.
I'm nervous about resynching with the iMAC now. Will it try to force IOS 5 on it again or can I just wait for IOS 6 before I put my toe in the water again?
iTunes should not force anything on the iPad. It needs user input to upgrade. You have to accept the upgrade. It should not happen on it's own. That's why your first statement has me stumped.
If you get the popup asking if you want to download and install iOS 5 - just click off of it - cancel it. You can upgrade if and when you choose to do so. You don't have to accept the upgrade.

  • Unable to restore to iOS 3

I have a iPhone 3Gs and upgraded the OS to iOS4. since then i have all sorts of issues. Some apps that connect to a service over the net no longer function correctly, which requires me to constantly kill the app (this process should be easier. like double click home drag off the bar down the bottom)
The biggest issue though was the fact that my battery life was draining 20% in 6hours when it was in stand by. I'm sick of this and want to go back to the old os. at least i got a few days in standby. I thought it would have taken a backup when i upgraded the OS. to my surprise every restore that is showing in iTunes restores to an iOS4 version. not only this but its wiped all my app and music.
Seriously this is completely ridiculous. How can i get back to iOS 3?

Apple does not allow restoring to a previous version of the OS. They only sign the most current version, so anytime you do a restore (whether factory restore or restore and reload of backup) the device gets reloaded with the most current version of iOS.
The backup does not contain the OS, only the applications and associated data. Restoring to a previous backup is not going to change the iOS version, no matter how far back you go.
Media is not contained within the backups, so any music, podcasts, videos, etc would need to be resynced after restoring and loading a backup. Contacts are contained in the backup, but most will tell you to not rely on that for storing your contacts.
As for apps, make sure in iTunes that the apps are set to sync with the device.
Prior to doing a reset/restore, it is a good idea to transfer all purchases from the device to iTunes. This is done in iTunes by going to File > Transfer Purchases with the device connected.
If you want to revert to a previous OS, the only way to do that is by Googling for a solution. There are no official methods.

  • Unable to Restore to ios 5.1.1

    Hi,
When i am trying to restore my iphone 4 to its original settings. i get an error stating " My Phone could not be restored as i was unable to connect to apple server.
    Need assistance.

Well no, Apple does not force anyone to upgrade against their wish if they don't want to.  It is you and you alone who decided to upgdate your phone to iOS6 and if you didn't want to, then you could have stayed with iOS 5.1.1.
Unfortunately, now that you have updated your phone there is no way to go back.  Apple does not support downgrading and as you have found, you are getting error messages.
Perhaps in time, Apple might release a software update to fix small bugs as is often the case, but you can't go back to iOS 5.1.1 now that you have updated to iOS6.
