Unable to restore phone

Hi!
Had my iPhone 3GS for about 2 months now and ever since I got it I have had one major issue: the phone will not ring when it is not set to silent and it will randomly switch itself between normal and silent, all by itself. It vibrates every time it does it, too. I often miss calls because of it.
Anyway, I decided that until Vodafone/Apple replace my phone, I can deal with that. But right now, I have a far more pressing issue: my phone is stuck in limbo and it needs a restore to work again.
I have used http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8864405 for help, but unfortunately nothing is working. I will try and break down my problem in simple terms:
* I need to restore my iPhone, so I download the software
* After finally downloading the software, the restore process begins
* It gets to about 75% completion when "error (14)" pops up and iTunes kindly tells me it cannot restore my phone.
I tried restoring it from another computer to no avail; I tried creating a new account on my laptop and restoring it with no success. I rang up Apple support and they told me to completely remove iTunes and then re-download it - that didn't work.
I really need some help - it's my only phone and I use it for everything (Calls, SMS, e-mails, alarm clock...). I know Apple won't be any help, because the problem occurred today and if I rock up to the store tomorrow they won't be able to help me out because I didn't make a prior booking...
Any tips?
Thank you so much.

What version of the firmware are you trying to restore to?

On 2 occasions my iphone has come up with the message that it needs to be restored to factory settings, but on trying to do this, itunes displays the message that it is unable to restore phone due to unknown error.  Any tips?

Unless you have a jailbroken phone that has altered the baseband, that usually a hardware failure, in which case you'll have to take it to the Apple store for evaluation.

  • How can i Use my apple 4 phone again - I was instructed to restore my phone with itunes and now it's stuck with the itunes logo and black screen Itunes has said unable to restore and now left unable to use my phone and not sure if I have any data on it?

I was instructed by I Tunes to restore my Iphone 4 - ITunes has since said it is unable to restore.  I  am now left with a black screen with Itunes logo on it and a picture of the charger attachment at the base of the screen and I am unable to do anything now with the device.  I think I may have lost all of my information on the device too ~ can anyone help please?

You have lost all your data, but hopefully you were backing it up with iCloud or iTunes. You can try this:
Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

Contact Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 to find out. But they will most likely tell you what you already know...it needs to be restored against the computer is was last linked with.

  • HT201444 iOS8 has completely broken my phone, unable to restore?

I am getting a restore error of 4005. I have disconnected all USB cables from my iMac. I am unable to restore the phone to factory settings. My computer starts extracting software, then I get the error 4005. I reboot and try again, I get the 4005 error. I see a Samsung device in my near future. Totally frustrated with this...

    Hello erksonson,
It may help to try restoring with another USB cable.
    Restore using another USB cable.
Restore your device on another computer.
If you continue to see error 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your device, contact Apple for support.

  • Error message: itunes-restore phone to factory default on iphone 3 "we're sorry, we are unable to continue with your activation at this time".

Attempting to restore Iphone 3 to factory deafalut, to finish "unlocking" the Iphone 5.
Moving the phone from one cellular carrier to another (in this case Rogers to Bell in Canada).
Rogers "unlocked" the phone on their end for $50.00, sent an email to Apple requesting serial # to be released from their network, and to provide "unlocked" status.
Next step was to restore phone to "factory default" in I tunes, and wait for phone to reset and show "unlocked" status.
Upon phone resetting in Itunes, after the "factory default", received the following error message"
"we are sorry, we are unable to unable to continue with activation at this time  Please try again, or contact customer service".
I contacted Apple customer service whom confirmed that the phone is showing as "unlocked" in their system.
New carrier that I am attempting to hook phone up states that the phone is still locked.
What is the solution or workaround?

    Hello mzpartia,
I found an article from Apple that specifically outlines how to try and troubleshoot this issue. It's called iPhone: Troubleshooting activation issues found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3424.
    Resolution
Perform the following steps if you receive one of the messages above:
    Restart the iPhone.
Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
Try connecting to Wi-Fi if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Applefor assistance.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • I am unable to restore my iPhone 4 from recover mode for almost a week now.

I am unable to restore my iPhone 4. It is in recovery mode and shows the connect to itunes screen. Itunes gives me many error messages, one saying "The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The network connection could not be established." and I do not understand if it is referring to my internet or a Network on the phone. My internet connection is fine and the phone does not have service on it since I havent gotten it to work for the last week. I have also tried multiple computers to try to restore it and recover images, but nothing has worked. Please help me!
