Unable to retore locked iPad mini

So, I'm having a serious problem. I was testing out the Find My iPhone feature, and locked my iPad Mini just to see how it worked. Now, the ipad won't accept the passcode I'd typed in, so it's now locked and disabled. I've resigned myself to losing everything and being forced to update, but when I try to do so with itunes it won't work. I don't have a backup. So I'm trying to wipe the thing and restore, and after an hour of waiting for it to download the update each time, but itunes just keeps giving me an error saying that the network timed out. I have the most resent version of itunes. I've tired this in recovery mode, same thing. I've tried turning off my firewall and antivirus. I can not get this to work and my iPad is now a brick. Can anyone help me?

Unfortunately you have triggered Activation Lock, Apple's premier security feature and the scrounge of the NSA/CIA/FBI and other nasty three-letter agencies. Until you sort out the AppleID issue (which the device needs in order to unlock), there will be no joy. You may need to resort to Apple Support for that and need to visit a Store.

Lacking any specific information, I'll just give you general information for backing up your data and resetting your iPad to its factory default condition, which isn't a bad idea for anyone, no matter what they are doing or what problems they may have - or not have. The first links are for backups and their information. Do an iTunes backup, as it's more complete. Then the last link is for using your iTunes program to do the factory default reset.

  • Locked iPad mini

MY iPad mini froze. Now, after I pressed the home button and the power but for 10 secs, it keeps cycling to the lock screen and then to a black screen. I can't get it to unlock and it won't stop cycling. Please help!!

Did you try resetting it again? If you did try and it still won't boot up properly, you may have to restore it.

  • How can anyone see message on a locked iPad mini if it was not connected to wifi?

    Hi,
My new iPad mini wifi was stolen 2 months ago in Spain. It was locked with 4 digit code. I immediatelly locked it through Find my iPhone, commanded erase and added info to call me with my mobile number.
In FMIP it says it's not connected and it's waiting to be erase but today I got a phone call from maroko from guy claiming he bought it and saw the message. i didn't get any icloud emails about my iPad though.
How it's possible he saw that when there is no info in iCloud that it was connected or unlocked? It's wifi only.
is there any way that ipad was connected to wifi without unlocking screen or maybe it was just connected to iTunes without unlocking the devide and that way iPad new it has been locked?
Why it didn't erase itself if it showed the info with mobile number?
    Thanks

  • Apple's sales person gave me locked iPad mini when I was so clear that I want unlocked one!

I got an iPad mini from the US I was so clear that I need an unlocked one because I'm leaving the country! So after I left the USA I found out that the sales person gave the wrong iPad. She gave me a locked one! And I tried connecting the USA support and after a week of chatting with the support they now tell me it's not the problem! Because I'm not in the USA now! They even didn't provide me with the receipt number which the sales person didn't send by email as she said!!

iPads sold in the US are Carrier unlocked for INTERNATIONAL use.  They are locked to the specific carrier you choose when you buy it.  It is in the disclaimers on the product page that the device can only be used on the network you choose at the time of purchase.
I feel the same way, that since you pay full price, you should be able to move.  But this is not the case.
    From store.apple.com
    Choose a network carrier.
Your iPad will work only with the carrier you choose.
iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular can roam worldwide on GSM/UMTS networks. In countries without compatible LTE networks, iPad with Retina display will operate on GSM network technologies such as HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA. When you travel internationally, you can use a micro-SIM card from a local carrier.

Your first paragraph applies to carriers in the USofA. Your second paragraph applies to the original poster's issue. All iPads are not locked to carrier, except for certain restrictions for USA use depending whether the carrier provides CDMA or GSM networks. Regardless, all iPads work worldwide on GSM networks and in some countries on LTE networks.

  • Locked ipad-mini Password forgotten

Restored ipad mini yesterday still locked as my daughter has forgotten password. 2 attempts already but to no avail?? Appreciate help peeps

Did you get a message in iTunes saying it detected an iPad in Recovery Mode? If not, the procedure was not done correctly.
    Power the iPad off
    Hold the home button
Continue to hold the button as you plug it in to the computer and the iPad turns on
Release when you see the message "iTunes has detected..." on your computer
    Follow prompts in iTunes

  • Wireless keyboard unable to connect to iPad mini

I have had difficulty connecting my Apple wireless keyboard with my iPad mini. I continually receive the same message- make sure your devilce is on and within range. I have put new batteries in the keyboard and even attempted to connect the keyboard to my iPhone 5s. However, the same message pops up. Any suggestions?

You have to put the the keyboard in "Discovery Mode" for it to pair via Bluetooth.
To place your keyboard in discovery mode press the silver button on the right side of the keyboard - the green light will start flashing.

  • Unable to register my ipad mini

Hello.  We picked up an ipad mini for our daughter today and under my support profile it shows the new ipad mini.  We received another ipad mini for Christmas and it was brand new, in a box etc.  I noticed it wasn't there under my support profile.  When I go to add it to my support profile with the serial number  which I am copying and pasting out of settings it says it is registered to another Apple ID.  Yet this ipad id is in fact used with my only Apple ID and it was never setup with another one.  I have ever only had one Apple ID.  How can this be fixed.  It won't let me change this.

If you are getting no response at all when you connect to the PC, it might be the cable or the USB port. You can rule out the cable if you try charging with the supplied power adapter and.ug into a wall socket which you should always do anyway.
If you test the cable and it's OK, the. It could be the port on the PC. Try another USB port or connect another device to that USB to rule it out as the problem.
If that all checks out, look here for help.

  • Unable to text from iPad mini

Keeps saying text message not sent when I send a message from my mini iPad

Remember your iPad is not a cellular telephone.  It cannot send or receive SMS text messages.  It only sends and receives iMessages, which go to/from other Apple equipment users who are also connected by WiFi (and occasionally a cellular phone network that accepts iMessage).

  • Restore locked iPad mini in airplane mode

Here's the scenario we're struggling with:
    1.  My daughter upgraded to iOS 7 last week, entered a new password and then promptly forgot it.  (Or, as she claims, the iPad will not accept the password she used).
    2.  At some point along the way, the iPad was set to airplane mode.
    3.  After (?) number of unsuccessful attempts at the passcode, the lock screen shows "iPad is disabled."  Seems like it's permanent now.
    4.  The iPad was setup to sync and back up through iCloud. To my knowledge, it has never been physically connected to a computer and synced through iTunes (I could be wrong on this. . .  can't remember whether this was required at setup, but if so, that was the only time it was connected to iTunes).
    5.  So, I would now like to restore the iPad to the most recent backup in iCloud.  I'm not sure exactly how to do this, but here are the options I've tried:
         i.  Initiate a restore through iCloud.com?  There doesn't seem to be an option to view a backup or initiate a restore once signed in to the account.  The closest option looks like "Find my iPhone", but again, the iPad is in airplane mode, so it can't locate it.
ii.  Through iTunes?  When I plug the iPad into a laptop, iTunes returns the following message, "iTunes could not connect to the iPad because it is locked with a passcode.  You must enter your passcode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes."  Not helpful.
iii.  Through the "iCloud Storage" program in MS Windows?  This seems to be the most promising.  I can view the time and the file size of the most recent backup; however, the only options available to actually do anything are to delete the backup file or buy more storage!  Really?!
We're big Apple fans, but when did things get so complicated and unfriendly?
    Please help.  Thanks in advance.

    Hello Catherine,
Thank you for providing all the details of the issue you are experiencing with your daughter's iPad.  You have gone through some really good troubleshooting steps already and are on the right track to get this resolved.
First, I recommend disabling Airplane mode using Control Center so that you can locate your iPad through iCloud.  To access Control Center, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
    iOS: Understanding Control Center
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5858
Once you have Airplane mode disabled, you can restore the iPad using Remote Wipe:
If you have never synced your device with iTunes, or you do not have access to a computer
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.

Once you have restored the iPad, you can restore the iCloud backup using the steps in this article:

  • Unable to connect iPad Mini to Wifi as of this morning

My ipad mini stopped connecting to Wi-fi just this morning. My regular iPad 3 and iPhone 5 and other devices are all able to connect. I downloaded the latest software update (6.0.2) and I am still unable to connect the ipad mini to wifi. It has been reset, restored, etc etc etc and still is not working. I've tried everything I could think of and find for the past few hours. The 6.0.2 update was supposed to fix it as per the description, but it did not. Note that everything was working fine until this morning and nothing changed - no app downloads, nothing with the wifi, etc.
My iPad Mini still will not connect to Wi-fi. Any suggestions?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
