Unable to retrieve settings for this user

Just setting up my new mac mini server for first time. It is updated to Mountain Lion. Setup local network user account with account name same as local short names on other macs (same on all of my mcahines). Then used System Prefs> Mail, Contacts, and Calendars.... to add a server account. Used exact same account info as on server (had both open to view).
Get the message: "unable to retrieve settings for this user"
Turned of firewalls... still not change.
Did search for this problem.... no real helpful responses.
Thought I was following all the basic steps to add a local network user. What am I missing?
Thanks

This message gets thrown if no services are enabled that the wizard wants.  Enable calendar, contacts, email, etc and it will connect.  This threw me off until I turned on the contact server for the heck of it and it started working.

As domain admin I am attempting to install "SQL Server 2008 R2 with SP2" but it keeps failing with "Failed to retrieve data for this request".
The installation never actually starts, it errors before then.
It displays the same error even if I run the System Configuration Checker.

  • Unable to create the portable home directory for this user

    This is driving me nuts!
I have a network user who I can login to on any machine on the network. I want a PHD to be created on a laptop and eveytime I answer 'yes' to 'create PHD for this user' I get the "unable to create the PHD for this user" message.
    What am I doing wrong?

I fixed this by unbinding the laptop from the od server as I had used this user previously for PHD's on this machine. Setting up the machine to bind to OD again and all is well.

  • An error occured while retrieving policy for this computer 0x80092004

    Good morning!
I have recently been having some issues getting my OSD working correctly.
It all started after the server which houses DPM and SCCM was refusing to start the SQL service because of an invalid certificate that was missing the private key. After I finally removed the key and all the registry value for it in SQL server, I could finally
    fire up SQL server again.
However, since then, I am unable to perform an OSD and I have been troubleshooting this issue for many weeks now.
I have low level knowledge of SCCM 2012 R2, but I did set this box up myself and had all aspects (OSD, Software deployment, driver deployment etc) working perfectly fine in native mode and was just about ready to start deploying images out when SQL
    died.
I am still able to push out the client in native mode perfectly fine, I just can't deploy an OS task sequence.
When I pxe boot the client, it boots fine and then prompts for the admin password, as soon as I enter the admin password, it fails with "An error occured while retrieving policy for this computer 0x80092004".

I am stumped with this issue. As I said, this is new to me, but I have so far been able to set it all up to a working state, up until this SQL issue occurred.
I look forward to your responses.
    Cheers,
    Kyle.

Untick the "Use PKI Client Certificate when available" in the Site Properties. I would create a self-signed certificate for the DP. Don't forget to Update DP for all your boot images when you are finished.

  • Failure to install SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU8/9 with a "Failed to retrieve data for this request." error

    Hi all,
Has anyone come across SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU8/9 failing to install with a “Failed to retrieve data for this request.” error.
The error is too generic for a useful search on web, for me at least anyway.
Had no problems patching a whole bunch of other servers in the same environment.
I’m no good at reading these error logs. For some reason the primary replica is referenced in the detailed log???
The CU8/9 patch has been run by both Domain Admins and local Admin with no luck.
We are trying to patch a secondary failover replica. (SharePoint 2013 is installed on this server.)
This is from the summary log:
    Overall summary:

    Hello SQL Ranger,
Thanks for posting the detailed log. I dont have exact solution for this but I can give you some hint what could be reason patch has failed below message points to fact that there is some issue with account which is used to install CU patch.Have alook at
below log.It says that when patch was trying to get details from other node in cluster it was not able to.

IMO I strongly feel it is issue with the account. Microsoft has also documented about this for SQL Server 2008 .Have a look at following links

  • Thousands of "mail is not enabled for this user"

Someone is sending my domain email to thousands of non existent mail accounts. It's like they are combining every possible prefix to my domain they know of. It's been going on for weeks. The Mail service, however, is not being brought down by this at all. So I don't know what kind of attack this is or how to stop it.
Can someone help me? Below is a minute section of my System log:

    ------------------

Two possibilities - both fall under the heading 'reconaissance by e-mail'. A spammer or hacker will try 1000's of common names, then look at which ones didn't bounce to determine which ones have accounts on your system.
They then have a comprehensive list of account names on your server, and can proceed to attempt likely passwords for each, or send endless spam to your users. Either one is a Bad Thing, doubly so if you've got any accounts that you created just to test things, and have weak passwords, but you've always counted on nobody knowing they exist.
At one point, I actually had a 'testuser' account that had 'testuser' as the password - I just hadn't remembered to delete it after I was done testing. It's very common for a system to have a couple of these hanging around. I didn't have trouble with it, but looking for and getting rid of these is critical.
Either way, the immdiate solution is to go Server Admin->Mail->Settings->Relay, and add the IP address(es) of the senders to the 'Refuse all messages from these hosts or networks' section. Mail attempts will still show up in your SMTP log, but they'll look like this one I got this morning (one of dozens):
    Jan 3 11:07:33 miniserver postfix/smtpd[1440]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from unknown[66.180.115.17]: 554 <unknown[66.180.115.17]>: Client host rejected: Access denied; from=<[email protected]> to=<[email protected]> proto=SMTP helo=<xptwfs.gov>
Next is to take a look at your password policies - if you've got strong password policies (must include characters and numbers, must be 7 characters or longer, etc., you're probably OK, but if anyone has weak passwords, or god forbid, uses their userid as their password, you're pretty vulnerable.
It's also worth noting that someone with a full list of your users has a fair number of tools for improved odds of phishing, or spear-phishing, where they create finely targeted mails that say things like 'Bob Smith told me to contact you for your password', and look very real. A warning mail to your users to remind them that they need to keep passwords secret, and be cautious about mail, even if it appears to know something about them, would be good. I wouldn't specify that you've been recon'd, just a general 'New Year Security Reminder' or some such.
    Hope this helps!

  • Panic cpu 0 unable to find driver for this platform pawermac6,1

One day I started my mac and received a message "panic(cpu 0 caller 0x002e0ebc): unable to find driver for this platform: "powermac6,1" it goes on with kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version8.8.0: Fri Sep 8 17:18:57 PDT 2006; root: xnu-792.12.6.obj~1/release_ppc panic: we are hanging here..."
I have search the site over and over and other threads that talked about powermac 6.3 but fixes. I did not do anything to my computer except 2 weeks prior I added a user and changed to have the computer ask who to log in. the computer worked fine and the other user never signed into the computer other then me using the other user name to test it to make sure it works.
what do I do? I read others changing hard drives etc.

The very same thing happened to me two days ago after I'd updated my "new" iMac 700 MHz from OS10.2 to 10.3. I also couldn't get the drive to open and let me retrieve the 10.3 CD. Using Disk Repair on the CD I repaired an Invalid Volume File Count and a Missing Thread Record, restarted and reinstalled 10.3, but then was right back to where I started, the kernel panic. Still couldn't get the CD out, so repaired the hard drive again (it now had the same errors as originally, reinstalled 10.3, same outcome, kernel panic. I tried to archive and install10.3, but it wasn't allowed, tried to erase the hard drive, but that wasn't allowed either. I then partitioned it with the same one volume partition scheme, reinstalled 10.3, repaired permissions (it didn't need any repair) and all is well. Or so it seems after a day of running.

  • HELP! "unable to find driver for this platform: 'ACPI'."

I was updating my Macbook Pro's software today the standard way and when/after it was installing the latest Mac OS X, my laptop shut off and now it won't boot up. A screen comes on that says "you need to restart your computer..." (which i did, but this message keeps popping up). on the same screen, it says stuff like panic: unable to find driver for this platform, debugger called, and displays all these numbers and letters. i don't know what is wrong or how to fix it. did my computer crash when installing the updated software/platform? PLEASE HELP!

    mrb1568:
If I may put in just one work of caution. Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature explains the procedure for the installation option. However, although you can choose to save your settings and preferences, and although all third party apps in the Applications folder are saved, as well as your Users Folder, the article starts out by suggesting that you backup. That is because if anything goes wrong, as you already know it can, you can likely lose all your data, or if it can be rescued, not without cost and a lot of time.
If you don't have a reliable, up-to-date backup I suggest that you use SuperDuper to clone the entire HDD to an external HDD. You can do that by using Firewire Target Disk Mode and connecting an external HDD to the host computer.
    Good luck.

  • Unable to retrieve tables from this connection

I have been using Dreamweaver for over 5 years. I have been
using an Access database and ASP the entire time. I am using a
Windows 2000 server for the database and web site. I have used
every verson of Dreamweaver since Ultra Dev. When I bought verson 8
and upgraded to 8.0.2, I began getting the following message when I
try to edit or create a recordset.
"Unable to retrieve tables from this connection, click on the
'Define...' button to test this connection."
I don't know what to do. Is this a widespread problem? Is it
a Windows problem? Is it a Dreamweaver problem? Is it a network
    problem?
    Please HELP!

Did you ever get an answer for this ?
I am having the same issue but using XP professional.

  • When I open TB, under "Accounts", it only shows the option "Create a new account". Option: "View settings for this account" is NOT shown.

When I open TB, I no longer see any information about the TB account I've used for years. Instead, the main menu shows only "Accounts" -- "Create a new account - Email, Chat, Newsgroups, Feeds". Option: "View settings for this account" is NOT shown.
Also the main menu does NOT show "Email - Read messages, Write a New Message" or "Advanced features", etc..
The actual emails pertaining to the TB account I've used for years are still present under the "Users --> xxxxyyyy --> AppData --> Roaming --> Thunderbird' folder.

  • Win7 and Reader X - default settings for ALL users/profiles

I have a custom browser/app that opens PDF's within the app which can sometimes cause issues. I found that if I set Reader X to not open in the browser (Edit>Preferences>Internet - uncheck "Display PDF in Browser") that this does resolve most issues. My problem...when changed this only affects the current user/profile that's logged in. Potentially there can be dozens of users on these laptops. The other setting is when opening a PDF, I get the warning about Protected Mode not being able to be used due to the current configuration. I can select "Always open with Protected Mode disabled" and I no longer get the message; but again, current user/profile only.
Is there a way to set these settings for ALL users/profiles? Running Win7 (32bit) with Reader X.

I do not know why you experience this; what exactly happens when a non-admin users attempts to highlight something?
You are talking about highlighting in the same document?

  • OS X Server 4.0.3 Profile Manager Settings for Mobile Users problems

    OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 with Server 4.0.3
We are using Profile Manager to control Settings for Mobile Users, and give homeSync to the users. Our problem is that the exclude / Skip items (Items matching any of the following will not sync" This setting is not working an example. I have put this folder to Skip Items ~/Downloads but the home Sync still Syncing items in the Downloads folder.
I have this problem on all the 3 users/machines on that server. Every client is using os x 10.10.1 og 10.10.2 I have check that the profile from the server is on the client.
Has any a solution to that?
    Regards
    Brian

I have no solution but have experienced failing sync settings (quite often) in both 10.6 Server and 10.9 + Server 3 (upgraded from 10.6 Server) in the same way as you described, it syncs too much. We have given up on synched home folders and will cut them and use other backup methods since we’re not so dependant on switching between different devices. Our users usually have one computer, one iPhone, one iPad and stay with those until it’s time to exchange them.

  • Security settings for all users

I recently developed a document that requires digital signatures and have been testing it. The only downside is that when a user opens the document, Adobe prompts for the installation of new security settings, and it installs it for that user only. I need to add a registry key to the new security settings, but it is only available to be added to the current user hive. Does anyone know how to install the new settings for all users?
Here is the registry key I need to add.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\9.0\Security\cPubSec]
    "bSelfSignCertGen"=dword:00000000
Im using Adobe Reader 9.3 and Win XP.
    Any help would be terrific!
    Thanks.

    Hi,
There are really two separate issues. First, is Adobe pushing updates to the Acrobat Address Book (i.e. adding certificates as trust anchors) and the second issue is how you can push your own update to disable the creation of self-signed digital IDs. Although the two issues share an underlying mechanism, they are separate and you cannot leverage one for the other.
First issue first. Adobe has entered into partnership with certain Certificate Authorities and has created a mechanism to add their certificates to the Acrobat Address Book (aka Manage Trusted Identities) using http to send a copy of the Security Settings file that contains only digital IDs. There are two ways to trigger the download process. One is to go into the Preferences, select Trust Manager, and click the Update Now button in the Automatic Updates group box. The other method is to load the DigSig plug-in (beginning with Acrobat 9, plug-ins no longer load a launch in order to speed up the launch process). As I'm sure you have deduced, opening a file with a signature field cause the DigSig plug-in to load which in turn triggers the automatic download. The reason we have limited the automatic download to DigSig being loaded is because the vast majority of people viewing PDFs are not using the digital signature functionality (much to my personal chagrin because the more people use digital signatures, the better my job security ) and we didn't want to bother them with an update they would never need. People already complain that there are too many updates, and we are trying to limit the irritability factor. To close the loop on this function, once the download process has been triggered the Acrobat check two more things before it does the update, 1) has it been a month since I checked and, 2) if it has been a month is there a new file to download. This way we are not pestering people with unneeded updates, or if they do need the update, at least not too often. And finally, Address Book management has to be on a per user basis. A certificate that you may elect to trust could be a certificate that the next person want to specifically keep untrusted. The Windows Certificate Store, Mac Keychain and Firefox Certificate Manager all work on a per user basis.
That brings us to what you would like to do. The good news is you can use the Export Security Settings featrue to create a distributable file that will set the preference. The real question is how will you distribute the file, but before we get to that, here is how to create the file.
With Acrobat closed, set the registry setting you noted in the message above
    Launch Acrobat
Select the Advanced > Security > Export Security Settings menu item
Click the Deselect All button on the Export Security Settings dialog
Select the Signing Preferences Settings checkbox
Click the OK button on the Export Security Settings dialog
Select Signature Creation Settings and note "Allow creation of self-signed Digital IDs" is set to No
Click the Export button on the toolbar
Follow the on screen dialogs. You don't have to encrypt the file, but you must sign it with a certifying signature
At this point you have the file available for distribution. You could e-mail it to your intended recipients with import instructions, or you could post if for download, or you could set the Preference the to automatically push the file from a server. To check this feature out select the Edit > Preferences menu item and then select Security from the Categories list box. You would need to select the Load security settings from a server checkbox and then set up the URL. As an aside, you can also export these settings by selecting the Automatic Update Settings checkbox on the Export Security Settings dialog noted in the bullet points above. You have a chicken and egg problem in that you have to get the users to first manually import the file in order to set up the automatic import. That I can't help you with, you're just going to have to decide what works best for you.
    Good luck,
    Steve

  • I need serious help! 'computer is unable to find driver for this platform'

i was just manually upgrading my OS X 10.4.7 mac mini to OS X 10.4.9 when halfway through the upgrade installation the computer froze and i had to reset it.
now everytime i turn on the computer it comes up with an error message saying:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0039C213): Unable to find driver for this platform: "ACPI"
the only option it gives me is to restart the computer which doesn't help.
can anyone please tell me how i can fix this?

Well. I think you have only two option left:
Archive and Install: will re-install OS X preserving users and files.
Re-install 10.4.9 Combo Update: In order to do this, you either need another Mac running Tiger and capable of starting in FireWire Target Disk Mode and a FireWire cable, or an external bootable HD.
If you have another Mac that supports FireWire Target Disk Mode, you can proceed as follows:
In the working Mac (the Target machine) download the appropriate 10.4.9 Combo Update (PPC or Intel). Leave it on the Desktop. Do not run it.
Follow the steps of this article.
Once your Mini has booted from the Target machine disk, run the 10.4.9 Combo Update, selecting as the destination of the install the Mini's Hard Drive.
If you have a bootable external Hard Drive, (with OS X installed on it) boot from it (hold the Option key at startup), download the Combo Update and install it to the internal HD.
If you don't have a bootable external HD, you can still re-install the Combo Update booting from the Tiger install disk, and using an USB thumb drive (sometimes it may need to be formatted as HFS), following this cumbersome procedure.
    Good Luck.
