Unable to Revert to Automatic Contact Names

Hello,
I recently renamed a Skype contact and I'm now unable to get Skype to revert back to automatically updating the contact's display name.
Following instructions in another forum post, I removed the custom name by editing the name, leaving it blank and clicking on the tick. This has the effect of updating the contact's name to his or her current name once only. It doesn't restore the default behaviour of automatically updating a contact's display name whenever he or she changes it. How can I get the default behaviour back?

Hi,
Please follow the steps in this article to uninstall Internet Explorer 9 via View installed updates. After you uninstall Internet Explorer 9, the previously installed version of Internet Explorer will be available on your PC. It isn't necessary to reinstall.
How do I uninstall IE9?

  • Contact names not showing up for incoming calls!

Seems to be a reacuring problem for Blackberry. Ive done a search for this on here and there doesnt seem to be a solution for the other devices. Like the titel states, when I have an incoming call it shows just the phone number, not the persons contact name, which is saved in my devices contacts list. I have a brand new Blackberry Passport. Just wondering if there is any fix for this?? This is a big problem for me. Don't have many contacts numbers memorized as Im sure most people dont nowadays.

    Hi @svansoros
I've unable to reproduce this issue after testing so I was wondering if you don't mind doing a few tests for me followed by capturing logs so our teams can investigate? To do this you'll need access to two phone lines.
    LineA = Your Passport
    LineB = Another phone line
On your Passport, create a new contact entry that contains LineB's phone number, e.g. 123-456-7890 and the contact name 'Test Test'
Using LineB, call your Passport and record what appears on your display, does it show the phone number or 'Test Test'? Record what time you called your Passport as well.
On your Passport, change the formatting of the phone number in the 'Test Test' contact to 1234567890 and call your passport again using Line B. Record the time you placed the call and what was displayed 'Test Test', or the phone number only.
After completing these steps, capture logs using the steps below and send them via email to the email address I'll send you via private message. Thanks for your patience and understanding!
    How to capture logs
    Open the Help application.
Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Create Report.
    Tap the Snapshot tab
Tap the Save Log Snapshot button.
Once the capture is complete, the device prompts to Upload Logs. Click No when this prompts appears .
The notification message closes and the log collection screen is displayed.
The Log Snapshots are automatically saved and can be found on the device memory in the Logs folder under Device\Documents\
Send the logs as a attachment to the email address I'll provide via private message.

  • How do I force Mail to use contact names in Address Book?

I ~need~ Apple Mail to display sender names as I have them in Address Book. My students are Thai and have typed their sender names in Thai, so I can't recognise a thing. I've sorted all the names out in Address Book (in English) but Mail still displays sender names using the email default, rather than the names from Address Book.
    • Upon receiving new mail however, the message's sender name ~WILL~ show up as the name put in Address Book. HOWEVER, after viewing the message the name reverts back to the one specified by the email author!! After that I can't get the name to show up as the Address Book name!
Is there a toggle somewhere? How do I force Mail to use the contact names from Address Book?

  • Lost my Contact Names and Months of New Entries w/ iOS 4 Update--Any Help?

    Hi,
I updated to iOS4 yesterday and after it was done all my contact names were gone. The numbers were all in there, just no names. I don't use Mobile Me for my contacts.
Checking my iPhone sync settings on my Mac for some reason "sync contacts" with Address Book was no longer checked in iTunes. It looks like it was that way for some time, which is unusual as that's the method I use to backup my contacts. No idea how that got switched, as I wouldn't have changed that. Don't think MobileMe troubleshooting had me turn it off after a Calendar duplication issue. Wouldn't make sense.
Also, I don't know why the update to a new OS would make me LOSE ALL my contact names. Why would the update be designed that way and not retain everything?
Now my computer has an old contact list and I've lost months of new contacts, phone numbers, emails and contact organization. Pretty bummed. Not sure why that box wasn't checked and the phone backup system is absolutely no help at all as, by design, iTunes only saves ONE backup of your phone at a time, and after the operating system updates to iOS4, it immediately and automatically backs up the phone with the new settings, writing over the real backup with the data you might want to return to.
Restored it from backup today to see if it'd repopulate the names, but no, it went to the backup it took AFTER the iOS4 update. It even erased the new spelling of someone's name that I put into the phone last night!
Why is this upgrade process designed without more safeties in mind, Apple? Not sure how that happened but clearly grandmothers and others might have a snafu and need to go back to an earlier backup. Can't iTunes backup the last 3 or 5 versions, or just note the differences so getting back lost data is easier? Happened a few years back, an iPhone I was using that went bad, but iTunes backed up the corrupted information in its single backup so that the last few weeks of entries, etc., got lost. Any way to get wireless syncing of the phone in the future like with Time Capsule or something, indexing at least a few multiple backups by date or something?
Clearly all the names were on the phone in their entirety immediately before the update, but then poof! Anything I can do about it now? Any ideas, folks?
    Thanks.

Try a hard reset right now and see if they disappear.
Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for 10 seconds until you see white Apple logo on the screen. Wait for the phone to restart and see if the contacts are fixed.

  • My iPhone 4s will not display my saved contact names anymore. What to do?

All of a sudden, my iPhone 4s will not display any of my saved contacts names or pictures.  It only shows the number.  However, it will show my facebook contacts names and info.  I currently have iOS 7.1.1.  I I've tried turning my phone off and them back on and still nothing.  How do I get it to show my contacts again?

  • Phone number, not contact name, appears for new iMessage notification

I am currently in Israel and using an Israeli SIM card with my iPhone 5C. I have unlimited data so I was told I was able to use iMessage. I am having an issue when talking to just one person. When I receive the banner or lock screen notification that I have a new message from him it just displays the phone number (area code and seven digits, no 1 or +1 or anything). Then when I swipe or tap to view the message it automatically brings me to a new message screen "To" his phone number (also the phone number is showing up green even though it is an iPhone). When I cancel the new message and am then in my Message app and viewing all my conversations, the new message is there under his contact name that is saved in my phone... And messages are blue etc. in our conversation. His number is saved with a +1 in my contacts as I am abroad and the contact name was appearing in my Messages. When I removed the +1 from his contact the phone is not recognizing him in my messages and just shows up as the number. This is very very frustrating. Please help! Thank you.

this issue corrected itself 2 days later, the power of prayer!

  • Imessage - Contact names & No.s gone

Since updating to Yosemite the only issue I have is that the contact name and photograph that was normally displayed in imessage against each contact has reverted to just the mobile number which makes is extremely difficult to use and follow conversations threads. Messages are received on phone and MAC as normal. Is this a Yosemite issue or is there a config I am missing to get the features back ?

Please try each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    Step 1
From the Messages menu bar, select
View ▹ Buddy Names ▹ Show Full Names (or Show Short Names)
    Step 2
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Language & Region
From the Region menu in the window, select one of the preset regions. If one is already selected, choose a different one, then change it back. Close the preference pane. Quit and relaunch Messages.
If you still have the problem after taking those steps, post your results.

  • Quotation marks under some contact names

So I have this issue that's been bugging me for a while. Under some of my contact names there are quotations (ie ""). I know where they are coming from, they are from the field "Nick Name." The problem is that I do not have any nick names for any of my contacts. Whenever I go to edit a contact on my iphone, the "Nick Name" field is always there, but it is blank (and there is no way for me to get rid of it). Unlike other fields such as "Prefix" or "Suffix", if I add them, but then do not fill in that field with anything when I edit the name, the field automatically goes away. I have checked Address Book and none of my contacts have a "Nick Name" field. The same is true for my MobileMe Account. This is really annoying!!! It seems as though my iPhone is randomly deciding to add the field "Nick Name" to some of my contacts, and does not give me the option the delete that field. Does anyone else have this issue and know what to do?
Also, I have checked and there is no space or anything in that field (it is completely blank) and I have tried replacing all my contacts on my iPhone and even restored my iPhone to factory settings and then synced everything back. (No Workie)

    Hi,
I have not worked out why but if the Contacts apps on both devices are not Synced then what you describe happens.
It seems worse if the Mac (System Preferences > iCloud > Contacts option) has been on in the past and then turned Off.
This seems to "lose" whatever was the Address Book/Contacts info before hand (even if it started on the Mac and was used to populate the iPhone's version).
Whilst iCloud is the listed choice here it also works with other method  (System Preferences > Internet Accounts such as Facebook or Google)
To check open the Contacts app and go to Preferences > Accounts and see what it list for Syncing.
it can get confused if two are listed.

  • Contact name auto-replacing -- can i stop it?

this is irritating: my partners name is filed in my address book under a first name with no last name (he's legally had his name changed to a single word). in another friend's address book, the "last name" blank is filed with a quippy phrase my partner uses.
as a result, every time i get an email from that friend, my partner's contact name changes to reflect how my friend has him filed -- this happens in ichat, mail, and address book.
it reverts to normal once i delete my partner's address from my previous recipients list in mail, then delete the extra words from his entry in address book -- but is there a way to stop that from happening to begin with?

    You might try this program.

  • Girlfriend's Skype displaying a contact name that ...

Ever since my girlfriend added me as a contact, my display name has always shown up as my real name for her. I have never used my real name for Skype. Ever. I entered my pen name as my display name when I signed up. This seems to be a problem that only happens with me and not her other contacts.
Further more, my display name does not change for her when I change it. Again, this problem doesn't seem to happen with her other contacts, just me.
So, why is my real name being displayed even though I've never used it? Why won't my display name change on her Skype? I've never had these problems with other contacts and I can't understand why she's having them.

    Claudius wrote:
Sounds like your girlfriend locally renamed your contact on her end. This way she won't see any display name changes reflected on her end. She can revert to the default name by deleting the display name she entered. See here on how to rename contacts: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA421/how-do-i-organize-my-contacts-in-skype-for-windows-desktop#Re...
No, no, that's not the issue.
The issue is that my contact was displaying my real name on her end when she added me instead of the name I had at the time she added me.
She did not change my contact to my real name (I know she wouldn't do that). It was just there when she added me and it would not change. She ended up changing my contact to a name I prefer because of this issue.
The fact that Skype can somehow display my real name, despite me never entering it for Skype and despite no contact name change is very concerning.

it's important to use 10-digit or fullly compliant international numbers for all contacts to keep things working smootly.
on the other hand, if when you have the contact properly filled out and the recent calls or sms list show just the number it's likely a corrupted addressbook.
I had this problem since i restored my iPhone 4 onto my iPhone 4s. turned out to be a corrupted address book database on the phone.
deleting the database @ /Users/Library/AddressBook (all files starting with AddressBook) (while Addressbook NOT running and when iCloud sync and iTunes sync both off) and re-run address book to create empty database before re enable sync solved it!

  • Search/Find by Contact Name

While running through a standard demo, was unable to search in find mode in the contact name field in a Sales Quotation or Sales Opportunity - Is this a locked field, is this something that cannot be done in B1 2007, Is there a fix?

    Sherry,
I could only think of a work around by using a Formatted Seach on the Sales Quote Number field to look for the Contact Person.
    Sample SQL
    <b>SELECT T0.DOCNUM FROM [DBO].[OQUT] T0 INNER JOIN [DBO].[OCPR] T1 ON T1.CNTCTCODE = T0.CNTCTCODE
    WHERE T1.[NAME] = '[%0]'</b>

  • Contact names keeps getting changed

All my contact names that I get emails from will get their last name added to the contact name.
    Example:
    Originally I have just "DAD"
It gets changed to "DAD surname"
I just want "DAD"and to stop having it automatically change.
Why does it do this and how do you stop it?
    Thanks

This has happened a few times now even after re doing my contacts in my address book. My only thought as to it being associated with emails is that is the only thing that has those last names and I notice that if I change my address book to just the first name it will stay until I get another email from them then their contact last name gets added in again.
I have MobileMe and I create contacts either fresh on my computer or iPhone and sometimes I will create a contact off an email or phone call.
Is this what you are asking?
