HP mini PCs are too basic to have advanced features like virtualization.
To connect to an external display use a VGA cable as seen in the following image.
If pressing Holding the Fn key down and tapping the F2 key does not transfer the video to the external display, you might consider trying another VGA cable. VGA display cables are not very expensive.

Only with a whole lot of effort and instability.  As the new Minis have
hardware (HD4000, USB 3.0, etc.) that is totally unsupported in old OSes.
The only option would be to see if it would work by installing in a virtual machine
running 10.6.8.  I'm sure there will be some performance hit but whether it would
be enough to be unusable is the question.

The optical drive has probably failed. It's a fairly common thing with these slim SuperDrives. Does it read any discs you put into it? You can try resetting the SMC and pram but I'll be surprised if it helps.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • HP Mini 110-1033ca don't want to install the IDT Audio Drivers.

    Hello everyone.
I brought a new HP Mini 110-1033ca from Casco in Canada when i visited my Godmother. Now i am back home in Germany and i installed Vista on it.
Everything got discovered properly and everything works. Except the Audio!
I downloaded the IDT Drivers on the HP Webpage and installed them as told in the instructions. But after starting the Setup with the IDT Splash Screen an Error Message came up saying, The detected Hardware is not supported by this IDT-Softwarepackage. Now i redownloaded it and tried it several times, but always the same Message. I even tried to install the Drivers from the swsetup folder manually with the Device Manager but the Device Manager says, the operation was just denied.
Now i was pretty much confused what to do.. I looked up several things in the Internet, tried different Drivers and stuff, i really tried everything i can imagine to get this baby to work, but i couldn't figure it out how to get the Audio Device run.
I have no idea how to fix it, because the Drivers from the HP page which are for this Netbook tell me they aren't so please, if you have any idea please help me.
Thank you very much and sorry for my bad english (still learning it)

    @Mortlake,
    Hi,
On Your old HDD, on partition C there may be folder SWSetup. There are always all extracted SP files with drivers. If You have it find there audio driver and paste here which was for Your audio (Full name of catalog. Example: Sp23142. Something like this. )

  • HELP...HP Mini 110 Won't Boot Windows !?!?

    Hey Everyone,
Please read in full and thanks for taking the time to read my problem.
I have a HP Mini 110 - 1100 running on Windows XP. Recently while using my computer, it started to get slow and eventually freeze. Even though I tried to shut down properly, I couldn't and was forced to reset by holding the power button. I've had to do that very few times in the past and usually everything ends up okay. But not this time ! The computer loaded and came to a black screen where the choices of (Safe Mode, Safe Mode w. Networking & Command Prompt, Last Known Configuration and Start Windows Normally) were displayed. I tried Last Known Configuration but as the OS was loading, the Windows XP screen froze, the BSOD (Blue Screen) quickly flashed, and the computer automatically rebooted. This resulted in a reboot loop that was never ending.
    STEPS IVE TAKEN:
    1. I tried to enter Windows through all the aforementioned choices.
    2. I pressed F10 to enter the BIOS in which I restored all default settings.
    3. Attempted to do a hard reset & nothing happened..may have done it wrong...but I tried several times.
    4. Pressed F8 (holding down & pressing repeatedly) to get to the "Windows Advanced Options Menu: (http://devilsworkshop.org/files/2009/06/68224pick-last-known-good.gif)" but the Boot Manger came up instead:
Here, it asks me to choose an OS which is Win XP, and when chosen loop begins again.
From here, I pressed F6 accidentally which took me to the Roxio BackonTrack recovery. I restored with last available saved settings (Apr 26).
    5. I took a Hard Disk Test in the BIOS which showed positive results...right?:
Passed - Restart the system (10000)
    SOME OBSERVATIONS:
    1. I enabled Instant Web so I can at least use something and it works. I'm actually using it now to post this.
I am able to establish a wireless connection.
I can view/listen to pictures/music that I have on my computer. Yet, I am unable to retrieve it for backup.
Instant Web recognizes my USB/SD connections.
Instant Web is syncing time with Main OS...does this show OS is still in working order?
    THINGS TO POINT OUT:
    1. Because the blue screen comes and goes so quickly, I am unable to aquire any error messages.
    2. I did have Anti-Virus installed which scans for viruses everyday and nothing ever came up as a virus.
    3. Everything was working perfectly right before this situation occured.
    4. There is no CD Drive built in nor do I own an external harddrive.
As you can tell, I've tried various methods, but nothing seems to solve this.
Overall, my computer seems to be in a healthy state with working parts so I am confused on why the computer won't boot past the windows xp screen !
What could be the issue casuing this?
What steps can I take to solve this?
What is the proper way to get to the Windows Advanced Options Menu on a Hp 110?
Is something corrupt...What are HP 110's recovery options?
If you need any more specific information about my issue, just let me know!
I appreciate you all for reading this and please help assist me & contribute in any way that you can.
    Thank You!

I'm going with simple corruption of the hard drive boot files. A chkdsk C: /r will likely fix it.  If you can get into safe mode command prompt you can run that command from the prompt and it should scan the hard drive and repair any file system errors. You apparently have no mechanical problem with the hard drive (i.e. bad sectors).
if you cannot get into Windows via safe mode (it looks like maybe you have tried that)....you may need to get a copy of somethign like Hiren's boot CD:
    http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd
Or any kind of a Windows preboot environment CD or memory stick to boot the computer and run chkdsk c: /r from the command line.

  • HP mini 110 -1129NR stuck in "loop"

My HP mini 110-1129NR won't run windows.  Will turn on but when you try to open windows xp, it trys, briefly flashes a blue screen message that is too fast to read, then loops right back to  main start up screen.  Can use internet and email however.  Tried hard reset with taking battery out... doesn't do a thing.  Also, every test has come back fine???  Any suggestions?

    Hi Mel,
Your best bet to get the computer working properly again is have someone take a look at the notebook either a local technician or HP. They will be able to test the components with equipment or in another machine to help determine the problem. • In Brazil. . . Do I need an adapter to plug in my HP Mini 110 into a 220 Voltage plug?

Hi! I'm living in Brazil for a while and just got here. I have an HP Mini 110 and the plugs here say 220V. Is it safe to plug in my computer or do I need some kind of converter? If so what kind?
My power is about to run out!!!!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Sasha

No. The power brick for the iPod senses the voltage and adjusts for the different ones.
You will need an adapter to switch form flat us pins tot the round pins used on their plugs.

  • Exactly what partitions is the BIOS checking for when starting a HP mini 110?

My niece has a HP mini 110 that failed one day. On doing a bios hard drive check it failed (7 on read). I though I'd have to get a new one so I ordered another. While waiting for this to arrive I got access to a SATA usb bridge and as the opperating system was beyond repair and the disk unreadable by the HP mini, I decided to try to repair the disk. So I reformatted the old drive using my desktop computer. Windows had no problems with the drive and it seemed to run fine.
I also had to order the recovery disks (windows 7 intro).
Anyway on trying to reinstall using the recovery disks via USB DVD drive. It kept coming back with error 17 - which I found to be a hard drive error. I also tried installing using a Windows XP installation disk and this was more self explanatory it said there was either NO hard drive installed  - or 'it didn't match the hardware specs for the unit' (or words to that effect)
On getting the new hard drive - same problem. Even though both of these hard drives work as USB drives connected to my main desk. SO, my conclusion is that on boot up the BIOS inspects the hard drive, checks to see the configuration of the formatting. i.e. the size and partitions etc. and when these are not matching the BIOS idea of proper specs it rejects the hard drive and considers there is none installed.  Or perhaps there needs to be some basic files on the hard drive. Whatever the case, the bios concludes there is no hard drive and will always return a 'fail' in the bios hard drive test.
Any ideas on this? I need to find out exactly what partitions are expected by the bios. Does anyone have these specs, or perhaps you have a HP mini and can examine your hard drive and tell me the partition amounts and sizes?
Unless I can get the bios to recognise the hard drive I can't see how I can reinstall the OS on to it. Any and all help much appreciated.
    Thanks
When it comes to fixing computers the longest word in the English language is "JUST" . . . as in 'you just do that and it will work' :-)

beevo you have used your logic to come up with the answer but in this case you are just a little bit off. The hard drive error you see in the BIOS is a SMART error. This is read out by a chip inside the hard drive itself working in conjunction with the BIOS. The chip stores data and is constantly testing the drive and if the read time or seek time or such such parameter is out of whack it reports that to the BIOS and you get a SMART error. It is a pure hardware thing and has nothing to do with any partition scheme or anthing else to do with the actual contents of the drive. A blank hard drive (written with all 0s) will still throw off a SMART error if there is such an error. SMART errors vary in severity but my rule of thumb and the mainstream thinking on this is treat a SMART error like a diagnosis of an incurable cancer. The patient might live a while but his days are numbered. Back up, as stated above, and buy a new hard drive which you have apparently already done.
A drive with errors will sometimes format fine in Windows and work just fine as an external type drive with a usb connection but you would not want to use it for an operating system.
The fact that WIndows XP is not seeing the drive on installation is a Windows XP thing. Windows XP does not recognize SATA hard drives. You need to slipstream in a SATA driver while you run XP installation by either modifying the install CD or using a usb external floppy disk.
To be clear, have you tried the recovery disks with the new hard drive and you still get the error or you have only tried to install XP on the new drive? If you are getting the error 7 with the new drive, you may have bigger problems such as a bad storage controller on the motherboard. That kind of error can cause the BIOS to read out a SMART error, too. You might want to try a hard reset on the computer by removing battery and AC adapter, hold down the power button 30 seconds and then try to start it with the AC attached. You can also boot it with no hard drive in and try resetting the BIOS to default settings and try the hard drive again.
Also to be clear, is the error 7 actually showing up in the BIOS or is it showing up during installation from the recovery disks? Are the recovery disks Windows 7 or XP?

  • HP Mini 110-3131DX. Hard drive replacement; do I need a new one and where would I get it?

I dropped my HP Mini 110-3131DX directly on it's spine and ever since it only turns on to show the startup screen and these error messages:
    HARD DISK ERROR
Please run the hard disk test in system diagnostics.
    Hard Disk 1 (3F1)
    F2  System Diagnostics
Then, it takes a LONGGGG time to even get me to the right screen to do the test ( I have to restart the computer to be able to renavigate to the screen) and it says Hard Disk test failed. What do I do now? Do I have to put in a new hard drive? Where do I buy my specific new hard drive? I really need some help.

  • HP Mini 110-3520ca constantly restarts when trying to restore from usb flash drive

    Hi,
I have a HP Mini 110-3520ca that I upgraded to Windows 8, but was having issues with freeze ups and shut downs so I decided to go back to Windows 7 Starter.    When I tried to restore to factory default the files were corrupted and I couldn't restore from the recovery hard drive or my external back up files.  I ordered the recovery  USB flash drive from HP and tried to restore from it.  It completes the Recovery Preparation and the Software Installation finishes, Windows starts to load, but Ithen it goes back to welcome to Recovery Manager.  When I try to start Windows without the flash drive I get an error log that is below.  Can someone tell me how to fix this or what needs to be done to get my Windows working again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Savvy58
I did some further looking into that Error Log you posted. Basically, it means that is looking for a certain location that doesn't seem to be there. This could be a problem with the USB Recovery drive that you have. I would recommend that you contact HP. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

  • HP MIni 110-1030nr - USB Problem!

    Hello!
I have 2 HP Mini 110-1030nr netbooks. Mine runs like a charm! I love it!
My dad's however is having major problems! For the first 2 weeks it ran great, but then the hard drive died in it. We sent it back to HP, they turned it around and had it back to us in less then 2 weeks! Great service!
But now, as we have been re-installing his software we have discovered the USB ports do not work right anymore. For example, my dad bought an external Samsung cd/dvd-rom drive. It just doesn't work right. It is unrecognized sometimes, or else it will show up but it can't see that a disc is inserted. Same goes for all USB devices... we attached an external WD Passport Hard Drive and it is not recognized either. The Hard Drive lights will light up momentarily and then just go dark. But when you disconnect the hard drive, Windows plays a little "disconnect sound" as if it knew it was there. Other times the hard drive will be recognized and work just fine, or it will work good for awhile then go dark.
Some items work fine on the USB ports... we have a little Verizon Pantech USB Data Modem, it seems to work good. And a little Sandisk 8GB USB thumb drive seems to work good consistently.
Could this be a power issue? Or something goofy on the mother board?
All these devices work 100% superb on my own HP mini, no hiccups at all. Need help! Need to know if I need to send this back to HP or if there is just a setting somewhere that I'm missing? I've tried going into the BIOS (F10) but there are hardly any options to change and none of them deal with USB.
    Thx!

figured out how to remove the hard drive. You remove the battery and there are 3 small phillips screws. Remove and put in a safe place. The screws hold three small metal tabs in place. With the screw removed, take a small flathead screwdriver and push the tabs up toward the keyboard carefully!!! This will lift the back edge of the keyboard nearest the lcd screen up in the air. Then turn the laptop over and grab the back edge of the key you just pushed up and pull it towards the keyboard and the keyboard will easily come off. Make sure to CAREFULLY remove the plastic ribbon connector from the connecctor and that exposes the harddrive. The rest is very obvious and simple. Reassemble in reverse order.

  • What is the use of SIM Card slot in HP Mini 110-3605tu ?

    I have purchased HP Mini 110 3605TU in the M/o May-2011,
Yesterday suddenly I found a SIMcard Slot beneath Battery .
When I inserted SIM Card in it does not work .
What is the purpose of this Slot.

Some mini's have the sim slot but they are not operational, check the bios or system specs to see if it is supported on that specific model.
This slot allows you to connect to the internet using cell towers, you have to have a mini model that supports this and you have to have a special sim card from your cell phone provider for it to work.

  • Netbook Mini 110-3830NR How do I create a restore image on a flash drive

I have a HP Mini 110-3830NR Netbook running Windows 7 Starter.
I want to create a restore image to original factory state.
The user manual recommends that I create a restore disk.
It further states that to create a restore image on a USB device, I need at least
    a 16GB device.
Therefore I purchased a Hp v165 16GB flash drive that actually contains
    14.8 GB of user space.
I could not find the correct info about creating the disk on the HP support
web site so I chatted with an HP Support technician. She eventually gave me
a link to a procedure that would create a restore disk for me.
Then she said I needed a 32gb flash drive !!
Is the user manual or the technician correct ??
    Can I use the 16GB (14.8 actual), or must I buy a 32 GB flash drive ??
    Thank You   fljim

I would just try to create it, the recovery creator should tell you at some point if it is big enough or not, orignally 8gb was big enough for most W7 system's HP sold, but as time passed they had to upgrade the size recommendation to 32gb.
the 16gb should be large enough for your model.
This HP document says al least 8gb minimum, use 16gb for best results, very confusing, I agree
