Unable to run Photoshop and Illustrator simultaneously?

I am unable to start up Photoshop when Illustrator is running and vice versa. It freezes on the 'initializing' screen. I am running Photoshop CS5 Extended (Ver 12.1) and Illustrator CS 5.1. This is a problem that only started recently; they were working fine together before.

Nobody can know. You are not providing any system info or otehr technical details. Most likely one of the commonly used shared components is being mutualyl blocked, but we can't know anything here...

  • Run Photoshop and Illustrator CS4 simultaneously???

    Hi,
    Any information would be appreciated...
I have an iMac G5 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB of RAM (maxed out). I currently work with InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop CS2 and can't have Photoshop open at the same time as either Illustrator or InDesign as it's very sluggish.
I would like to upgrade to CS4 but am worried that I won't have enough RAM to run both programs (Illustrator/Photoshop) at the same time. I've searched the web to find out what hardware would be best to run both applications at a decent speed but can't find anything. I know what the minimum system requirement is, but I'd like to have better than a minimum system as my files are very large and as it stands, takes a long time to open and save.
    Thanks!!

The minimum RAM recommended is 2 Gig for CS4 Design Premium. CS3 is 1 Gig. You can reduce the amount of RAM the apps use when launched. Check your preferences for the Performance settings. Taking away too much RAM can have a detrimental effect and not help you at all. Minimizing the app when not being used at the moment instead of leaving it up will release a little more RAM back to the OS to re-allocate to the active app. It doesn't have to keep track of where the window is or take time to redraw it etc. etc. Small amounts add up.
If you're working off the internal drive...keep it cleaned up so CS2 has room for the scratch files. If the drive is fragmented, it has to write the scratch files all over the place instead of contiguous areas. Dont let anybody tell you OS X doesn't fragment, it's utter nonsense...it DOES. The G5 iMac should run CS2 fine, just not FAST like a G5 tower loaded with RAM.
If you're gonna upgrade to CS4, you're gonna need a Mac Pro...and I'd get a gig of RAM per core. 4 Gig minimum and install a second hard drive from Macsales.com and use it as the scratch disk and Work In Progress drive.

  • I cant use photoshop and illustrator in same time....

    Hello!
I have CS3 and i´ll try run photoshop and illustrator in same time. If i run first photoshop then illustrator not work and if i run illustrator then photoshop not work. :-/ What i pose to do??
    PC:
    AMD FX (Six-core)
    Memory 8G (XP 32bit -> ~4G)
    Thanx anyway!

Read this probably the scratch disk you haqve is too full, and you will have to select a scratch disk that is not fragmented and has plenty of room to work. The scvratch disk is storing the various undo states for both Photoshop and Illustrtor.
Illustrator has unlimited undos so that takes up a lot of scratch space if you do complex art work with many points being employed to create the art and Photoshop will do the same if you are using very high resimages with many layers.
And in 32 bit the amount of RAM is limited which puts a strain on the scratch disk so it has to bve very large if you want it to work for you.
This is what I recommend to you go 64 bit get another 8 GB of Memory at least and get a hard drive you can use as a swcratch disk that will not have any files on it or that you can partition to have a large amount of free space.
You will have to read a little bit but you can start here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optimize-performance-photoshop-cs4-cs5.html#main_Memor y_Usage
I am on a Mac myself and have 24GB of memory and feel I could still use anoter 8GBs but I do some motion graphics as well.
Nut if you do a lot of Illustrator and Photoshop that can be just as big a drain on your resiources.

  • Unable to run Photoshop, tells me I've reached the 2 Comp limit

I have installed on two computers Adobe Photshop, now on one of them I am unable to run Photoshop and get a message telling me that I've reached the limit of two computers and it doesn't run any more and asks for an activation code.
The thing is that it's only installed on these two computers and not on any other, could my account have been hacked and installed by someone else? Is there a way of "removing " activation on a computer remotely or atleast identify on which computers it's installed?
    Thanks,

  • Is my iMac now useless as i have installed lion and i am no longer able to run cs2 photoshop and illustrator as this is all i use my mac for they should make this clear before buying it i can't afford the latest version of cs2

is my iMac now useless as i have installed lion and i am no longer able to run cs2 photoshop and illustrator as this is all i use my mac for they should make this clear before buying it i can't afford the latest version of cs2 and cant believe what a waste of money it is.

The newest version of CS2 is CS5. And it was made very clear that these applications would not run in Lion. Not only by Apple, but on all sorts of communities and websites. It has been a long time coming - PowerPC apps were outdated six years ago. Lion does not support Rosetta, and therefore not PPC apps.
you have to options. Go back to Snow Leopard or upgrade your software. (MS Office 2004 and older will not run either).
    Cheers

  • Tablet PC calibration error in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 whilst in Extended Desktop Mode

    Hey everyone!
I've run into a snag which hasn't bugged me before because I never used a second monitor, but now that I do, Photoshop and Illustrator don't function properly.
I am running my Adobe products on my Lenovo X61 Thinkpad Tablet, which is Wacom PenEnabled. It's got the basic digitizer pen and pen pressure features, no stylus tilt or anything.
Whenever I run Photoshop or Illustrator in Extended Desktop Mode so I can have a different window open on my external monitor and the Adobe app on my tablet screen, my stylus goes strange. It seems to think that the extended desktop is part of the Adobe window, so when I move my stylus to draw, the cursor will appear on the external monitor, usually proportionate to the size of the screen...ie. It interprets the external and tablet screens as one desktop and the top left corner of my tablet screen is the top left of my external, whilst the bottom right on tablet IS the bottom right on tablet, if that makes any sense...sorry.
So I can't draw anything in photosho unless I set it back to standard desktop mode, or mirrored desktop. I've searched over the net and these forums and I can't find a fix for this. I was walking in harvey norman the other day and the Wacom Cintiq 12" was there on display, and it had the same issue with extended desktop and photoshop.
Has anyone had this issue before and/or does anyone know of a fix for it? I'll keep searching around and playing with the computer until I fix it and I'll post any solutions I find here if noone else has one.
    My system details are:
    Abobe Photoshop CS3 10.0.0
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
OS: Windows Vista Build 6001, Service Pack 1, 32bit
    RAM: 2GB
HD: 18.2GB free Disk Space (out of 66.3GB on the Active Partition)
Video: Intel GMA: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

I'm using an HP tx2011au tablet pc, using adobe flash cs3 and have the exact same problem. it becomes decalibrated only while the flash window is open, and only while flash has a file open, and only when using an extended desktop. even if flash is open and it has no files open it works fine.

  • Photoshop and Illustrator updates fail using Adobe Application Manager, why and what can I do?

In the Adobe Application Manager, it says there are updates for both Photoshop and Illustrator. When I click to update, they both downloaded and attempted to install and in the middle of this process, Application Manager shows that the updates fail. After this, upon restart of my Mac–running Lion–Illustrator shows that it's up to date in the Application Manager and Photoshop shows an update is available. Upon trying to re-update Photoshop again, the update fails again and again.
I have updated before a few days ago with no problem, so I don't understand why the updates are failing and why after doing so, now Illustrator shows that it is up to date and Photoshop does not.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, does anyone know why and what I can do about it?
    Thank you.

    Hi Richei Creative,
    These would be my suggestions:
Create a new user account with administrative rights, log out of your current account and into that one, launch Adobe Application Manager and attempt the Photoshop update again.
Instructions if you need them  - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468
If this fails, uninstall Photoshop (Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers) and reinstall Photoshop then from Adobe Application Manager the attempt the Photoshop update again, also from the newly created user account.
    Hope these help,
    -Dave

  • Extensions not showing at all - Indesign CC 2014 - but shows in Photoshop and illustrator

    Hi Hallgrimur Bjornsson,
Extensions not showing at all in Indesign CC 2014 (see screenshot) - but are showing in Photoshop and illustrator
Have tried to remove ExMan.db file and restart Extension Manager (v. 7.3.2.39).
After install, the extension correctly shows in
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions
In CC folder - there's one extension (Adobe Mini Bridge)
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEPServiceManager4/extensions
Have tried to uninstall and reinstall InDesign CC 2014.
There is only CC 2014 version of the applications installed.

Is Extensions available as a menu item under Edit > Menus...
If it is, is it marked as visible?
If it is not, uninstall, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3 ) and reinstall.

  • Why Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 are so slow on my MacBook Pro early 2011?

First of all sorry for my english
I recently installed Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 and they tend to lag even on just during normal work operations like zooming, opening a file, selecting a tool, browsing menus etc etc.
Cpu, Ram and Gpu usage are normal, I mean when I use these software there's at list 85% of free Cpu, 1GB of Ram still available, and 80% of free GPU. And I got 30GB left on my hardrive which is little but I believe is enough.
So I cannot believe this slow performance is due hardware limitations. There must be some driver issue or something else.
Anyone knows why CS6 is so slow?
    Software version:
    Photoshop CS6 13.0.1
    Illustrator CS6 13.0.0
    My Specs:
    Os: Snow Leopard 10.6.8
Cpu: Intel Core i7 2.3 GHz
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
    L3 Cache: 8 MB
    4GB ram
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M

My experience is that Photoshop can demand and use prodigious amounts of memory and disk space, much more than one might expect from the size of the files being worked on. While I don't have direct experience with CS6, my daughter uses CS4 on a Macbook Air with 4 GB memory and she had 100 GB free (on a 250 GB solid state drive). CS4 is less demanding than CS6, and in fact with the SSD, it runs pretty well, even with just 4 GB memory (the solid state drive is basically like memory, in fact, in some ways). However after running Photoshop on some projects for a while, we noticed she had only 60 GB free disk space. After restarting her Mac, she had 100 GB free again. Photoshop CS4 was using up 40 GB of disk space! And this was simply editting some (multiple) photos from a digital camera. Photoshop not only has its own memory management processes, but it also pages to disk and uses disk space as "scratch space" in its own fashion. I think that it is inadvisable to run Photoshop with less than 100 GB free disk space, and that's with CS4, not even CS6. And if you don't have a solid state drive, the throughput might slow down immensely unless you have a lot of memory (I think someone else pointed this out already).
Bottom line -- based on what I have seen with CS4, 4 GB memory is too low by at least a factor of x2 (16 GB memory would be even better), and I'd say a minimum of 100 GB free disk space is a must as well. I saw CS4 using more than 40 GB of "scratch disk space" and you are using CS6, which must use significantly more resources than CS4, and you indicate only 30 GB free space. That seems too low to me. I think other Adobe major software packages are similarly demanding, unlike any other software I have seen or used. For instance, I think you would have no trouble running MS-Office software (which is also known for using computer resources, but not anywhere as much as Adobe software).
One thing you can do is when you notice things slowing down, not only quit all other software except for CS6, but also in the Finder, under the Go menu, enter
    /private/var
    under Go To Folder ...
and then look in the folder called
    vm
If you see swapfiles, add up the total space they are taking, and also the space taken by the sleepimage file. These are working to decrease the amount of free space you have and they can quickly grow to tens of GB when Photoshop and other Adobe softwares are running.
Since it sounds like you have now upgraded your RAM, that should help, but you may find that the swapfiles and sleepimage files are taking even more disk apce faster and I think 100 GB free space is needed to avoid further slowdowns.

  • Photoshop and Illustrator sometimes hang when working together (CS 5.5)

    Hi all,
I'm working with Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium 5.5 and sometimes, when I have Photoshop and Illustrator opened together, if I try to open something a little more complex (but not to heavy), one of the programs hang or freeze.
This is a Windows 7 (64bits) Service Pack 1 environment, on a HP Workstation 2.67Ghz Quad with 8GB of RAM, using a NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800. At a first glance - and regarding the files usage - it doesn't seem to have a reason to happen.
I've updated the program versions and let Photoshop use more than 60% of the available RAM. When this happens, 50% of the physical RAM is available.
Besides having these two apps running, I have Outlook 2010, Linotype Font Explorer Pro and some LAN policies active.
Does anyone had a similar problem that could kindly help?
    Many thanks,
    Tiago

What does Windows Event Viewer say about the matter? if it is as arbitrary as you say, then it's most likely network issues or graphics issues. In the latter case simply install a suitable driver and configure it properly, in case of network issues (to which in particular Ilklustrator is extremely sensitive), store the files on a local harddrive.

  • Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 updates fail

I have subscibed to Creative Cloud and the uodater tells me I have updates to apply to Photoshop and Illustrator CS6. I would like to have these updates as there is no guarantee I shall be able to afford the CC subscription forever. However every time I apply them they fail with error U44M1P7. According to the Adobe help document I need to download the standalone installers; I did this with Illustrator and it failed in exactly the same way. For Photoshop it says apply the update from within Photoshop, but I cannot even do that now as the program crashes on launch.

Run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, let the application manager reinstall, try again.

  • New laptop spec suggestions for Photoshop and Illustrator

    Hi Everyone!
As I am sifting through the posts regarding laptops - I figured I'd post my own as my requirements are a little different.  I am looking to buy a new windows laptop.  I work with Photoshop and Illustrator and basic office programs like outlook, word and excel.  I have CS2 but will upgrade with the new laptop purchase - so running CS5.5 (or better) Photoshop and Illustrator is required.  I may or may not buy the whole Creative Suite as I only use these and Acrobat.  I want to spend what is required to get the job done well - not more - but I don't want to be cheap either – my laptop needs to work well & not hamper my workflow.  This will be my only computer.  Being efficient is key.  I use Adobe to do graphics for apparel: (embroideries, prints, logos, etc.) and small business (logos, print media, etc.).  I work in actual size – so a lot of what I do is on a 20 x 30 art board.  I do not work on videos – just print media and static artwork.  Suggestions on the specs I will need and/or actual laptop models would be great.  Thanks so much for your help - it is all so confusing!

  • Deleted the CS6 trial, but App Manager thinks I still have Photoshop and Illustrator installed.

I had previously installed, used, and then deleted the Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 trials. I recently subscribed to the Creative Cloud, but when I try to install Photoshop and Illustrator from the Adobe Application Manager, it just says they are "Up to Date," but I can't find them anywhere on the Mac or the Applications folder like they used to be.
Do I need to delete a file or folder somewhere else for the App Manager to realize I don't have them installed anymore?
    Thank you for your help.
I am currently running OS X, 10.8.2, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4GB RAM.

Run the Adobe Cleaner Tool then try downloading via the AAM again.
