Unable to Save a file

I can not save or "Save as" under the same name, or any existing name.  I get an error message about it being a read only file or some other user may have open (I am the only usre).  I can only "save as" using a new file name.

Hi!
We have a couple of customers who is experiencing this same problem saving editable PDF-files from the file servers on site. Only possible way to save them is to save using a different file name which is quite disturbing. We've tried a GPO to disable "Protected Mode" which seemed to work for a while but not the errors is spreading throughout the organizations/offices.
They're all running Acrobat Reader 11.0.10 (except for a few computers who's still on 11.0.9 due to not being powered up for a while).
Would really appreciate some answer from officials about what could possibly be behind this.

  • Unable to save indt files at all

Hi, I've looked through the forums but haven't found a solution that's worked or the quite the same problem as I have, so here it goes:
I have InDesign CS6 version 8.0.1 with Windows 7 64-bit however I have been unable to save .indt files sent to me from a couple different sources.
When opening the file I also get the warning message saying I'm missing the "LILO.InDesignPlugin" but the template still seems to open no problem.
However, when I click 'Save', 'Save As', or even 'Save a Copy' nothing happens. None of them are greyed out, but no window pops-up for me to save the file, even if I make changes.
I tried exporting the file as anything else but nothing works--I get the "Failed to export the PDF file" message every time.
Any thoughts on how to resolve this?
    Thanks for the help!

When opening the file I also get the warning message saying I'm missing the "LILO.InDesignPlugin" but the template still seems to open no problem.
Your InDesign installation is clearly corrupt. Uninstall and reinstall.
It may be sufficient to rerun the installation without uninstalling, but it might not.

  • Help!! - "The HP Scan Application was unable to save the file to the specified location."

New OJ6830, latest HP software installed on Win7 64 bit.
HP Scan scans and displays the scanned pages.  But, when I try to save the file as a pdf or tiff, I get the following error message:
"The HP Scan Application was unable to save the file to the specified location."
BTW, I have tried running the app as Administrator and have disabled my antivirus software.
Why won't the HP scan app save the file?  Has anyone else seen this error message?
Is there anything else I can do, or this this just a major bug in HP scan software?

    Mike,
    One Idea:
Make sure you have "San Preview" checked else the software will not accept "specified location".

  • SpaceFM Error - Error: Unable to save session file. Permission denied

    Hi.
I have just installed linux-rt from AUR
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=51360
Everything installed correctly and is working so far.
It's just that whenever I'm with a folder open (even if I dont do anything) and click the X to close the window, this error appears:
    SpaceFM Error
Error: Unable to save session file.
Do you want to exit without saving?
    ( Permission denied )
I usually click yes and nothing happens - or seems to.
If it helps, I AM able to read, write, copy and delete files.
The problem ( I THINK ) seems to be just aesthetics AND/OR not affecting me at the moment?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: In fact LOTS of issues just showed up...
    1- Transmission doesn't resume downloads.
I closed it and opened again and there were no downloads and when I tried to start them again, there was an error saying: Unable to save resume file (or something close)
2- I just logged in (at the login screen, lol) as root and ALL problems disappeared, transmission saves things again, no more SpaceFM error etc.
Anyone has any clues what is this permissions problem ?? The whole OS is new and I didn't install anything, it wasn't supposed to be happening.

Just stumbled on this, dunno about your other problems, but as far as your spacefm problem, go to ~/.config and sudo rm -r spacefm

I can copy and print from my computer but when I try to save the scan I get an error message saying the HP app was unable to save the file to the specified location. I reloaded the cd and that did not help.

Hello jerlip,  Welcome to the HP Forums.  I see that you are having an issue when attempting to save a scan. I suggest that we try running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  If you see any error codes or messages, please let me know what they are. Write me back when you have time and I will be happy to research other options if needed.  Cheers,

  • Unable to save PDF files (sometimes?)

    Hi All,
There are times when I'm working with Elements 6.0 that everything is working normally. I can play and adjust and save files to my little hearts desire. There are other times when I'll open a file, make my adjustments, save the file and when I go back to look at the saved file, there is no preview and I am unable to open it. The properties says it is not a PFD, just "1 File". Any clues as to why I am having this intermittent problem would be most appreciated. The picture you see here is from a file that Elements 6.0 says it does not recognize and there is no preview. But yet I can select it and preview it here. HELP!!!!
    See attached....

  • As of today I am unable to save PDF files that are attachments of emails.  Can you help?

The save as button is grey & unable to save any PDF file.  This problem began today so can this be changed?

Tech support visits occasionally but for the most part it's just us fellow users.
In order to use just "save", you would have to make some changes to the pdf to be saved. If you have made no changes, can you use "Save as"?
Are these files being opened in Reader directly or are you opening them in a web browser using the Reader plug-in? What version of Reader?

  • Unable to save edited files

    Hello Group,
Has anyone experienced this problem?? We have had this
problem 2 times, and it seems related to after a Windows automatic
update as run. Platform is an HP laptop, running windows XP.
We have several *.cp files. We open one file, and delete an
audio track from a slide, and then attempt to save the edited file.
The edited file will not save. For some reason Captivate
still sees the "different" file name as the same name as previous
file. The edit is not saved. We even created a new folder on the
C:\ drive, and copy a file in, open it, or attempt to open an
edited file that somehow got saved, and then Captivate say "this
file is in a format that captivate does not recogize"
Has anyone else seen something like this?
captivate seems to work ok on my desktop pc, but not the
laptop??? Perhaps it is some sort of problem with the laptop
    Thanks,
    eholz1

I was wondering if either of you have had any luck nailing
down this problem. We are experiencing it on one of our laptops as
well and I have been baffled by it.
The laptop is a Dell with XP SP2, it was running Captivate
1.0.1 for a while and was upgrade to Captivate 2.0 without removing
Captivate 1. This configuration has worked for months, but suddenly
I can't save anything. If you hit save the hourglass pops up and
goes away with no error messages, but the * in the titlebar
indicating unsaved changes is still there and when I try to close
it asks to save. If I say no or cancel it acts properly, but if I
hit yes to save it, is just goes back to Captivate and doesn't
close or save. Save As will save a file, but it is usually corrupt
when I try to open it later, and the * still doesn't go away.
I have gone so far as to run ProcessMonitor from Sysinternals
but it doesn't show any errors. It doesn't even show that it is
trying to save it. If there are any patches or updates for
Captivate 2 I have been unable to find them on Adobe's site.

  • Unable to save Photoshop files in original folder: file disappears

    Hi,
At random moments when I'm saving layered Photoshop CS5 files, a message pops up with the following text:
Could not save "\...\FileName..." because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file.
Well the strange thing is that I'm the administrator, the only user of this PC and even when I set/check the properties of the folder containing the files this continues to happen. What is even more disturbing is that I have to save my file as a new file in a new location and when I check the original file, it is no longer in it's original folder.
I save all my files to the local HD and I use an external device to backup my files. I regularly get notices on my backup device telling me that various files were deleted, but will be kept until I need the room. These are files which I did not delete, they are files which I'm still working on.
I'm having to save to the original job folder first, save to the desktop when I get the notice saying I can't save, and then save back into the original folder when I can't save on the desktop anymore because of the same error message. I sometimes get a similar Adobe error message which is basically along the same lines, but I haven't noted the exact text yet.
Recently I closed a file which I had saved and when I needed to return to it, it was nowhere on my computer. I'm very organised about file saving, so it's not a matter of saving files in the wrong place.
I no longer run my back up continuously while I'm working because while it's great to have the peace of mind that I'm regularly backed up, my files can get up to 2GB in size and I think the backup running at the same time is slowing Photoshop processes down, so I most often pause it until I take a break. On this occasion, I had been running it while working (smaller file) and so I was able to retrieve an earlier version from my backup which saved me from having to re-do the job completely. I didn't get this problem when I was using CS5 on Vista, it's been since I've been using Windows7 and my back up drive.
I only recall having had this problem with PSDs, but that could just be because these files can take up to ten hours to complete and there's a higher chance of getting an error message over a longer period of time.
It doesn't happen very often by there has been the very rare occasion where two versions of exactly the same file have been visible in the original job folder (same name on both files). To check if files are where they're supposed to be or if they seem to exhist, I have to close the job folder and re-open it.
I'll disconnect my back up drive while I'm working and see how it goes. It's not ideal, but probably worth a try.
I don't know if there's a connection, but occasionally windows randomly sticks a lock on zipped folders which I create, regardless of the permissions I apply to the upper level folder they sit in.  I'm told by a friend that it won't affect other people accessing these zipped folders from other machines. I don't know if that's the case, I always change the zipped folder's permission to include 'Users' and that makes the lock disappear.
I will run this file disappearance thing by Microsoft, but I thought I'd run it buy you guys first in case you can shed any light on it.
Meanwhile here are my specs. If you have any suggestions on how I can boost my computer's performance for large format print work in Photoshop I'd be happy to know. It's not bad now, but faster is always more pleasant:
    DELL XPS 730X
Total amount of system memory 6.00 GB RAM
    System type 64-bit operating system
    Number of processor cores 4
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz
    Memory: (RAM) 6.00 GB
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
Gaming graphics: 3323 MB Total available graphics memory
Primary hard disk: 302GB Free (451GB Total)
    Single hard disc, no partitions.
Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium.
    Thank you,
    Charlie

A great first chapter Charlie. Can't wait for the rest of the book.
The only time I've had anything like this happen, was in a new build after hooking the drives from the old system, but the permissions really were screwed up, and it was a straight forward fix. Is the machine networked perhaps? The files open in another app? I expect you answered this already somewhere in your forum equivalent of War & Peace. ;-) The lads on the Premiere Pro hardware forum can be disparaging about Dell and HP machines, saying their proprietary hardware and software are inaccessible, so I wonder if it is something along those lines.
I’d definitely unhook the second drive as a starting point, or at least double/treble check its permissions.
The only other thing I can think of is changing the state of ‘Save as to original folder’ in Preferences > file handling, but this is all very tenuous and straw clutching.

How can I solve this problem?
I am the only user of thiw PC with administration rights.
    Please help

    Hi albanderii,
Are you trying to upload from Reader, or directly from https://cloud.acrobat.com? Have you been able to upload your files previously?
    For starters, let's try this:
Clear the browser cache and try again.
Try using a different web browser (see System requirements | Acrobat.com for a list of supported browsers).
If you're using Reader, make sure that you have the most current version by choosing Help > Check for Updates.
Please let me know how it goes.

  • Unable to save .cptx file to Sharepoint

Prior to upgrading from Captivate 4 to Captivate 5, I was able to save a Captivate file directly from Captivate into a Sharepoint library.  I am now running Captivate 5.0 on Windows 7 and receive the following error when try to Save or Save As from Captivate.
I have tried troubleshooting by installing 5.0 on XP and received the same error when trying to Save or Save As.
I have tried to Save the file when opening Captivate as "Run as Administrator" and not.
I had only one project open when trying to Save/Save As.
I asked teammates to log on to my machine and try to Save to Sharepoint wondering if it could be my login, but no one was able to Save or Save As from 5.0.
I am, however, able to Publish directly into the Sharepoint library.
Has anyone encountered this error before? Seen issues with Captivate 5 and Sharepoint?
    Thanks for any help!

If you want to store your backup Captivate CPTX files in a Sharepoint drive or a LAN drive, that is your choice.  But I must repeat my warning above...Never open a CPTX file directly in Captivate over a LAN connection or from any other location than from your local hard drive otherwise you risk corrupting the project file and losing potentially weeks or months of work.
So if your team wants to store the project files somewhere that everyone can get to them, that's fine.  Use a Check Out / Check In policy so that no more than one person is working on a given file at a time.  Mandate that when the person checks out the file, they MUST copy it to their local hard drive, BEFORE opening it with Captivate to work on it from there. When checking the file back in, mandate that the user must close the file in Captivate and use Windows Explorer or some other method to check it back into the common repository.
By all means, for the purposes of demonstrating Sharepoint you can make it LOOK like you use the Team Site as your repository.  But unless you want to experience hugely frustrating performance and corruption issues with Captivate, as many others before you have, you would be wise to heed the advice above.

  • Unable to save Keynote file to Windows Shared Drive

Have recently installed Mavericks 10.9, and Keynote Version 6.0.1.
I am having difficulty saving any Keynote files to a Windows network Share. The network Share was added with domain credentials of the Windows Environment, so permissions are not the issue as far as the share is concerned.
When attempting to save any file, existing or new to the network Share, Keynote advises that there are not sufficient permissions to be able to save to this folder. If I copy and paste the item into the folder, it works as normal.
It looks to be an issue with Keynote saving with local Mac Credentials instead of Windows Credentials, however there are no issues saving other type of files to the network share, just Keynote.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This is a known issue, as you are doing the work around is to save to the Mac and then transfer to the the share folder. Hopefully this may be sorted when Apple completes the series of updates we are expecting.

    Hi,
Did you create a file screening policy on the drive to prevent you from saving .msg or specified files? Can you save these files on other drives?
If the issue only occurred on the specified drive, please check the state of the drive and repair it if necessary.
