Unable to save edited files

Hello Group,
Has anyone experienced this problem?? We have had this
problem 2 times, and it seems related to after a Windows automatic
update as run. Platform is an HP laptop, running windows XP.
We have several *.cp files. We open one file, and delete an
audio track from a slide, and then attempt to save the edited file.
The edited file will not save. For some reason Captivate
still sees the "different" file name as the same name as previous
file. The edit is not saved. We even created a new folder on the
C:\ drive, and copy a file in, open it, or attempt to open an
edited file that somehow got saved, and then Captivate say "this
file is in a format that captivate does not recogize"
Has anyone else seen something like this?
captivate seems to work ok on my desktop pc, but not the
laptop??? Perhaps it is some sort of problem with the laptop
Thanks,
eholz1

I was wondering if either of you have had any luck nailing
down this problem. We are experiencing it on one of our laptops as
well and I have been baffled by it.
The laptop is a Dell with XP SP2, it was running Captivate
1.0.1 for a while and was upgrade to Captivate 2.0 without removing
Captivate 1. This configuration has worked for months, but suddenly
I can't save anything. If you hit save the hourglass pops up and
goes away with no error messages, but the * in the titlebar
indicating unsaved changes is still there and when I try to close
it asks to save. If I say no or cancel it acts properly, but if I
hit yes to save it, is just goes back to Captivate and doesn't
close or save. Save As will save a file, but it is usually corrupt
when I try to open it later, and the * still doesn't go away.
I have gone so far as to run ProcessMonitor from Sysinternals
but it doesn't show any errors. It doesn't even show that it is
trying to save it. If there are any patches or updates for
Captivate 2 I have been unable to find them on Adobe's site.

  • SpaceFM Error - Error: Unable to save session file. Permission denied

    Hi.
I have just installed linux-rt from AUR
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=51360
Everything installed correctly and is working so far.
It's just that whenever I'm with a folder open (even if I dont do anything) and click the X to close the window, this error appears:
    SpaceFM Error
Error: Unable to save session file.
Do you want to exit without saving?
    ( Permission denied )
I usually click yes and nothing happens - or seems to.
If it helps, I AM able to read, write, copy and delete files.
The problem ( I THINK ) seems to be just aesthetics AND/OR not affecting me at the moment?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: In fact LOTS of issues just showed up...
    1- Transmission doesn't resume downloads.
I closed it and opened again and there were no downloads and when I tried to start them again, there was an error saying: Unable to save resume file (or something close)
2- I just logged in (at the login screen, lol) as root and ALL problems disappeared, transmission saves things again, no more SpaceFM error etc.
Anyone has any clues what is this permissions problem ?? The whole OS is new and I didn't install anything, it wasn't supposed to be happening.

Just stumbled on this, dunno about your other problems, but as far as your spacefm problem, go to ~/.config and sudo rm -r spacefm

  • Unable to save indt files at all

Hi, I've looked through the forums but haven't found a solution that's worked or the quite the same problem as I have, so here it goes:
I have InDesign CS6 version 8.0.1 with Windows 7 64-bit however I have been unable to save .indt files sent to me from a couple different sources.
When opening the file I also get the warning message saying I'm missing the "LILO.InDesignPlugin" but the template still seems to open no problem.
However, when I click 'Save', 'Save As', or even 'Save a Copy' nothing happens. None of them are greyed out, but no window pops-up for me to save the file, even if I make changes.
I tried exporting the file as anything else but nothing works--I get the "Failed to export the PDF file" message every time.
Any thoughts on how to resolve this?
    Thanks for the help!

When opening the file I also get the warning message saying I'm missing the "LILO.InDesignPlugin" but the template still seems to open no problem.
Your InDesign installation is clearly corrupt. Uninstall and reinstall.
It may be sufficient to rerun the installation without uninstalling, but it might not.

  • Help!! - "The HP Scan Application was unable to save the file to the specified location."

New OJ6830, latest HP software installed on Win7 64 bit.
HP Scan scans and displays the scanned pages.  But, when I try to save the file as a pdf or tiff, I get the following error message:
"The HP Scan Application was unable to save the file to the specified location."
BTW, I have tried running the app as Administrator and have disabled my antivirus software.
Why won't the HP scan app save the file?  Has anyone else seen this error message?
Is there anything else I can do, or this this just a major bug in HP scan software?

    Mike,
    One Idea:
Make sure you have "San Preview" checked else the software will not accept "specified location".

I can copy and print from my computer but when I try to save the scan I get an error message saying the HP app was unable to save the file to the specified location. I reloaded the cd and that did not help.

Hello jerlip,  Welcome to the HP Forums.  I see that you are having an issue when attempting to save a scan. I suggest that we try running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  If you see any error codes or messages, please let me know what they are. Write me back when you have time and I will be happy to research other options if needed.  Cheers,

  • Pse 5 unable to save edits

I have hade pse 5 for several years.  All of a sudden, I can't save edits.  I get error message, "Unable to save.  Computer error."  What to do?

    Thank you for your response.
I'll reinstall PSE and see what happens.  The error message has changed to "an error in the program has occurred."  Doesn't state which error, but does lead to the conclusion that reinstalling would be a good idea.
    >>> TinkerTinkerUK <[email protected]> 11/2/2009 1:38 AM >>>
Not clear if this problem relates to all edits or just one or two pictures. My suggested acton is
    1) use Vista to copy these pictures to somewhere safe (CD/DVD, another computer).
    2) make another copy of the picture e.g. copy fred.jpg to fred_xx.jpg; and see if edit works on the new file.
The key thing at the moment must be to save the pictures.
Once the pictures are secure then you can worry about PSE. If the pictures are OK then my next move would be to reinstall PSE5 (this will not have any impact on albums or configurations as you are only reloading the source code)
The fact that you do not have other copies of pictures highlights the need for backups and file management of pictures. My action is always to bring all the pictures (good and bad) from the camera into a picture_download file which is stored on two different hard drives (in my case a separate computer). I then copy the pictures to the Adobe work area and do all the deletions, corrections there. Hence, if disaster strikes, I can always go back to the original.

  • Unable to save PDF files (sometimes?)

    Hi All,
There are times when I'm working with Elements 6.0 that everything is working normally. I can play and adjust and save files to my little hearts desire. There are other times when I'll open a file, make my adjustments, save the file and when I go back to look at the saved file, there is no preview and I am unable to open it. The properties says it is not a PFD, just "1 File". Any clues as to why I am having this intermittent problem would be most appreciated. The picture you see here is from a file that Elements 6.0 says it does not recognize and there is no preview. But yet I can select it and preview it here. HELP!!!!
    See attached....

  • PSE 7...Unable to save edited photos in a version set

I am suddenly unable to save my edited photos in a version set.  The edited photo is being saved on the hard drive but is not linked to the previous photo nor is visable in the open catalog.  This issue in occuring in only one catalog but not in others.  Thanks for any help.

You may be encountering a known bug.  To troubleshoot:
    1. In the Organizer, select one of the problem photos (the original, not the edited), right-click it, and do Show Properties.  What is the full, precise path of the photo, shown to the right of the yellow folder icon at the bottom of the Properties window?
    2. Do Help > System Info.  What is the precise path given for Catalog Location?

  • Unable to save edited PDF from IE

We have several PDF forms that users fill out from the web.  The forms are presented with ColdFusion.  There are 2 scenarios.  The users will sometimes pull up an already existing form to edit and saveit.  Other times they need to create the form from PDF templates. it is presented with a cfpdfform tag.
When the user opens an existing form with a link and Adobe Reader is set up to open within the IE browser they cannot save the edited file.  A dialogue box pops up stating the file alread exists, would you like to replace it. If you answer yes to this another dialogue box pops up stating :"The document could not be saved. This file is already open".  If Adobe PDF is set to NOT open in the browser and the form comes up in Adobe then the save works fine.  However, setting Adobe Reader to not open in the browser doesn't work well when the user needs to create from the PDF template. When the file opens in Adobe the user can save it however, all file pathing and filenames are lost.  it generates temporary filenames and wants to save it to ...Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\SWGQJPOR.
A couple of questions. Anyone know how to get the already existing PDF to save when opened from within the browser?  or if not, anyone know how to get the pathing to stay on the file when it is opened in Adobe?
I'm using Acrobat X to build the template and IE 7 and IE8 for browsers.  Any help is definitely appreciated. thanks

Thanks! I tried that and tested and it worked!  Such a simple solution to a frustrating problem!  Thank you again!

  • As of today I am unable to save PDF files that are attachments of emails.  Can you help?

The save as button is grey & unable to save any PDF file.  This problem began today so can this be changed?

Tech support visits occasionally but for the most part it's just us fellow users.
In order to use just "save", you would have to make some changes to the pdf to be saved. If you have made no changes, can you use "Save as"?
Are these files being opened in Reader directly or are you opening them in a web browser using the Reader plug-in? What version of Reader?

You have a 16-bit image and jpeg is an 8 bit format. You can set the raw converter to export as 8 bit by using the pulldown menu below the preview area, or you can just go to Image>Mode>8 bits/channel in the editor.

  • Unable to save Photoshop files in original folder: file disappears

    Hi,
At random moments when I'm saving layered Photoshop CS5 files, a message pops up with the following text:
Could not save "\...\FileName..." because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file.
Well the strange thing is that I'm the administrator, the only user of this PC and even when I set/check the properties of the folder containing the files this continues to happen. What is even more disturbing is that I have to save my file as a new file in a new location and when I check the original file, it is no longer in it's original folder.
I save all my files to the local HD and I use an external device to backup my files. I regularly get notices on my backup device telling me that various files were deleted, but will be kept until I need the room. These are files which I did not delete, they are files which I'm still working on.
I'm having to save to the original job folder first, save to the desktop when I get the notice saying I can't save, and then save back into the original folder when I can't save on the desktop anymore because of the same error message. I sometimes get a similar Adobe error message which is basically along the same lines, but I haven't noted the exact text yet.
Recently I closed a file which I had saved and when I needed to return to it, it was nowhere on my computer. I'm very organised about file saving, so it's not a matter of saving files in the wrong place.
I no longer run my back up continuously while I'm working because while it's great to have the peace of mind that I'm regularly backed up, my files can get up to 2GB in size and I think the backup running at the same time is slowing Photoshop processes down, so I most often pause it until I take a break. On this occasion, I had been running it while working (smaller file) and so I was able to retrieve an earlier version from my backup which saved me from having to re-do the job completely. I didn't get this problem when I was using CS5 on Vista, it's been since I've been using Windows7 and my back up drive.
I only recall having had this problem with PSDs, but that could just be because these files can take up to ten hours to complete and there's a higher chance of getting an error message over a longer period of time.
It doesn't happen very often by there has been the very rare occasion where two versions of exactly the same file have been visible in the original job folder (same name on both files). To check if files are where they're supposed to be or if they seem to exhist, I have to close the job folder and re-open it.
I'll disconnect my back up drive while I'm working and see how it goes. It's not ideal, but probably worth a try.
I don't know if there's a connection, but occasionally windows randomly sticks a lock on zipped folders which I create, regardless of the permissions I apply to the upper level folder they sit in.  I'm told by a friend that it won't affect other people accessing these zipped folders from other machines. I don't know if that's the case, I always change the zipped folder's permission to include 'Users' and that makes the lock disappear.
I will run this file disappearance thing by Microsoft, but I thought I'd run it buy you guys first in case you can shed any light on it.
Meanwhile here are my specs. If you have any suggestions on how I can boost my computer's performance for large format print work in Photoshop I'd be happy to know. It's not bad now, but faster is always more pleasant:
    DELL XPS 730X

    System type 64-bit operating system

    Thank you,

A great first chapter Charlie. Can't wait for the rest of the book.
The only time I've had anything like this happen, was in a new build after hooking the drives from the old system, but the permissions really were screwed up, and it was a straight forward fix. Is the machine networked perhaps? The files open in another app? I expect you answered this already somewhere in your forum equivalent of War & Peace. ;-) The lads on the Premiere Pro hardware forum can be disparaging about Dell and HP machines, saying their proprietary hardware and software are inaccessible, so I wonder if it is something along those lines.
I’d definitely unhook the second drive as a starting point, or at least double/treble check its permissions.
The only other thing I can think of is changing the state of ‘Save as to original folder’ in Preferences > file handling, but this is all very tenuous and straw clutching.
