Unable to save Numbers spreadsheets to iCloud or Mac

I have created a spreadsheet in Numbers '09 version 2.3 and every time I try and save it I get a message that says "The file "Untitled.numbers-tef" couldn't be opened".
Does anybody know what I'm missing?
Thanks,
DJ

I had tried that too and it didn't work either. I ended up starting from scratch and it seems to be working now. Not sure what happened but it looked like it auto-saved with some long temp file name and then wouldn't let me do anything to it. Thanks for the help anyways.

iCloud refuses to save numbers spreadsheet saying, incorrectly, that a newer versionof the application is required. Has anyone a solution please?

How do you know that it is incorrect?
Which version of Numbers do you have, and which version of OSX.
It's hard to come up with solutions without any information being provided.

  • Saving an updated numbers spreadsheet to icloud

    Hi Everybody!
I'm trying to learn how to use the icloud and numbers to seamlessly move between i-devices.
I use Numbers a lot on my ipad, and have installed it on my desktop as well.
I would like it if I could create a spreadsheet on my ipad and then update it on my laptop--and then save that updated version back to numbers in the icloud so that I can work on that same spreadsheet again on my ipad--just like on the commericials!!
How do I do that???  I cannot seem to find what is "home base" and keep ending up with various versions of the same document in different, confusing places.
How do i save that updated spreadsheet on my laptop back to the icloud????  There must be a simple solution for this that I'm just not seeing...
    Thanks!!!

What a mess it all is too! We have Numbers only to find you can't save spreadsheets to iCloud.
So - unbelievably for having paid a fortune for i-Pads we send them via e-mail (in Excel form nobody else but Apple understands Numbers) to our computers (also Macs but that may change if this stupidity is going to continue with Apple)
On arrival - Save to where ever - THEN we open Google Docs (who understand how to make these things simple) - drag and drop into browser of Google Docs - it is there in seconds and you can work on it in a browser both from ANY computer and the iPad (but it makes it less enjoyable because unlike Googledocs, the iPad insists YOU must click 'submit' for each line or entry you put in or edit.
    Hope that helps you.
Just to say, it is beyond belief that the iPad won't just connect to the ether and work simply  through a browser like Google Docs does. Believe there are plans somewhere for a tablet with no apps just a connection to the ether ......

  • Numbers spreadsheets via iCloud?

Hi - any tips on how I get numbers spreadsheets from my mac to my iPad.  I've uploaded them to icloud and have my iPad set to receive docs and data under the iCloud setting, but nothing happens.
    Any help would be appreciated

I don't have Numbers but I use Pages. I suspect that only files that you load into Nunbers and then save will be sent to the cloud, I don't believe it will scan through all available files on your drive.

  • Can't Open Numbers spreadsheets in iCloud

I'm hoping someone can help me ... I have some numbers spreadsheets saved in iCloud.  When I go to open them, it says that the file can't be opened, whether I try to access it from my Mac or from the Icloud website.  I was able to get a preview of some of the documents so at least i can start over, but one document is password protected and I can't get it to open.  I've tried saving it to my desktop, changing the extension, looking at the permissions, and no luck.  This is so frustrating!  I do have a time machine back up but since this is stored on the cloud I'm not sure if it would have saved a file on the machine.
Any advice appreciated, I saved things on iCloud to ensure that if my computer crashed I'd still have access and it seems that was not the right thing to do!
    Thanks much.

Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers normally wouldn't show up in a Spotlight search. But you should be able to find it in Finder by holding down the option key and choosing Library from the Go menu.
If it's not there then that suggests you haven't been successful in activating iCloud sync on your Mac. You might check setttings in two places in System Preferences > iCloud.
Documents and Data must be checked:
AND, after clicking 'Option...', this Numbers.app must be checked:
If these two boxes are both checked and you're still having trouble then try signing out of iCloud and back in.

  • Can't save Numbers spreadsheet

When I reorganize a numbers spreadsheet, I can't save the file. I get an error message saying that "it cannot be saved." Using "save as" generates the same error. Anybody have a clue what's going on? I'm using an iMac (intel) with OSX 10.6.7.

It's a relatively new computer and came with OSX 10.6.7.
    I'm using Numbers 09, ver 2.0.5.
This is a spreadsheet that I created in Numbers. It has eight sheets that are interconnected. The formulas are not complex. I've used some conditional formatting in the header rows. I'm also using footer rows. There are simple graph charts (not 3D) based on spreadsheet data, but no other graphics. I did not use any links or shapes or other graphics. I would call it a simple multi-page spreadsheet with simple graphs.
At the moment it is not a large spreadsheet. Each sheet has no more than 15 rows and columns.
I can't find anything that would cause a save failure after reorganizing. It's puzzling and very annoying.

  • How to upload numbers spreadsheet to icloud

Trouble uploading current numbers spreadsheet to cloud.  How do I upload spreadsheet to cloud to access it on all of my devices

Hi CowGirl, are you really a cowgirl from Southern Dixie  ?  LOL.
Ok i have now learned a lot more about this saving a Numbers file to the cloud, in the version of Numbers i have, there is not a Save As option, i looked in the Help File and to do anything like Save As you have to first File/Duplicate and Save as from there, but this idea does not give access to the LIBRARY.
However through searching around more diligently i found that to get a Numbers file (and a Pages file as well no doubt) up onto the Cloud, so it can be edited by any of your devices, you simply need to drag the file, from the finder window onto the iiCloud/iWork/Numbers web page !, it really is as easy as that.
    Thanks for helping young lady.

  • Unable to save settings in mail app for Mac OS X for iCloud mail?

    Hello
    I have two questions really.
1: I wanted a new email address, was happy to see I could create an iCloud email address - but it seems you need an initial email address to have an iCloud email address. As in, I couldn't use it as my apple ID?
2: I cannot save settings for my iCloud mail because the incoming server is 'greyed out' and the mail app identifies this as the incoming server being blank which it isn't, but I cannot edit it as the 'greyed out' font is locked and unchangeable. Apple state that the incoming server should read as:
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
But mine reads this and it won't let me change it. Other wise the email works, but I do need to adjust the settings etc and I can't because the incoming server is apparently blank when it isn't.
    Server name: p09-imap.mail.me.com
I hope this made some sense to someone. I simply wanted a new email address and it's taken up the best part of an afternoon.
    Thank you.

    Problem Solved(ish)
I had to Apple chat, iCloud is set a certain way, and that's it.
They edited my full name FOR ME (I know).
Password is made to match your Apple ID, so that's how to change that.
As for Mailbox behaviours, as I said above - On the left side bar of Mail app, right click or Command Click under Mailboxes iCloud.com and select Get Account Info then> Mailbox Behaviours. Your settings will save then without the whole 'Can't save settings when incoming server is blank.'
I hope Apple will soon make that if they must have an auto-filled Incoming Server, that the Mail app will not recognise it as blank so that we can at least edit Mail preferences when and how we like it.
    Thanks.

  • Syncing Numbers Spreadsheet on iPad and Mac

    Hi There,
I have created spreadsheet in Numbers on my laptop that I would like to have on my iPad as well. My hope is that I can use iCloud to keep the same files and same information on both machines. Thus, when I make a change to the iPad spreadsheet, that is automatically reflected in the version on my laptop. So, I uploaded the spreadsheet to iCloud, and when I tried to download it to my iPad, the file appeared in my Spreadsheet pane, but it never actually opened. The icon for the file in the Spreadsheet pane on my iPad has been grayed-out for more than a day.
I also tried going the other way; I created a similar spreadsheet on my iPad, uploaded it to iCloud, and then tried to open it on my laptop. When I login to iCloud on my Mac and try to open the file, I get a little message that tells me that the file is "Updating", and nothing happens. Here is what it looks like on my laptop:
    Does anyone have any ideas?

Go to system preferences > iCloud > manage and delete the numbers files from iCloud. Check that documents is now empty both on the iPad and in iCloud.com and try again.

  • Unable to open Numbers file in iCloud using Numbers 2.3 (iWorks 09)

Using my iMac (OS 10.8.5) and Numbers (2.3), I am unable to open a Numbers file built on my iPad2 (7.1.1) and stored on iCloud. I get an error message indicating that I need to upgrade Numbers on the iMac. The version available to download on the App Store is 3.2.2 and seems to require Maverick to run. i don't really want to spend the money on either, but will if I have to obviously. (DISLIKE). Are there other options? And will the upgrade also force me into iOS 8?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Reefkeeper,
You will need Mavericks to use Numbers 3. I don't use iCloud right now but it seems some users are experiencing difficulties at the moment with the iOS 8 upgrade. To Use Numbers in iCloud you will need iCloud Drive which requires iOS 8 and Yosemite on the Mac. Yosemite is not out yet.
I sync my Numbers files between my iPod and Mac using iTunes and file sharing. It is a little clunky but gets the job done. You can also email files.
It has been said on these forums that Numbers 3 is a free upgrade- I can't remember. I don't do a lot of printing or find and replace and Numbrs 3 has suited me very well. It is said to be more applescript friendly and of course that whole cloud thing. '09 will still be on your computer.

  • How do I get Numbers Spreadsheet to synch between Macs on iCloud?

I have a family budget created on Numbers. It is mostly stored on the home iMac but I look at it or change it from my MBP on occassion. I have been doing this via share screen, but am now trying to set it up on iCloud so I change it on one mac and it shows up on the other one in the updated version. I have put the document on iCloud, but if I change it on one Mac, it doesn't change the iCloud version, and the one on the other Mac remains unchanged. I thought this was supposed to happen automatically. I am using Numbers v2.2. Am I able to do what I want as described? If so, what am I doing wrong?

Renee Notes from the iPhone absolutely do sync with the iPad. The problem is that Notes is probably configured to use a gmail (or other) account for Notes by default.
When you open Notes in the iphone there is an 'Accounts' button. Tap it and see where it takes you.
I see 3 entries on my wife's iphone. "All Notes", "GMail" and "iCloud".
Hit the "Home" button and go to "Settings" -> "Notes" -> "Default Account"
You should see the option for "iCloud" there. Select it and any new notes will be created in the iCloud account and therefore sync to the iPad.
I only found all this out while trying to see why my wife's iphone wasn't syncing back to the iPad myself. So i thought I'd help a fellow in need :-) Hope this helps.

  • Can I family share a numbers spreadsheet in icloud?

I would like to share and collaborate with members of my family sharing group. This was easily achieved in the previous version prior to iCloud drive update, I could share with another apple id. iCloud drive only seems to allow the sharing of a link. An option similar to Google drive sharing would be a much better option in my opinion. Any ideas?

There is no Numbers -> Some Application path.
It may not be too hard to make an app in XCode. if the spreasheet is not too complicated
