Unable to scan due to printer cartridge low on ink.

Is there anyway to bypass that there is no ink in a cartridge to allow me to only scan at the moment? It will not find printer due to being out of blank ink.

Hi,
As in few of my posts/messages before which said "Vendors (all, not just HP) should allow users to scan withou inks" but the reason behind: their main functions: PRINT therefore no inks, no work. They need inks to protect themselves.
Hope this makes sense.
Regards.

  • How to use only for scanning without installing printer cartridge

I have an old all in one and want to use it only for scanning without installing printer cartridge. I get the red signal of no i9nk and "E" msg in copy no button. If I give scanning request from HP solutions centre I get an error message " An error occured while communicating with thescanning device"

Hello , Welcome to the HP Community! I understand that you are trying to scan on your HP Deskjet F380 All-in-One Printer without having cartridges installed. I'd like to shed a little light on this for you. Some HP printers are able to scan without ink installed, but most do not. If the cartridge lights on the product are blinking and there is an "E" in the copies window, then the printer is in an error state and will not function until cartridges are installed. If the printer is in an error state, that would describe the message you are getting that "An error occured while communicating with the scanning device", as the printer would not respond when prompted by the software. You can check the blinking light combination on the printer and follow the steps in this document to resolve the error state and continue using the device.Blinking Lights on the HP Deskjet F300 All-in-One Printer Series Hope this helps! Thanks so much for posting.

  • Can I suppress the ^%#@% constant "cartridge low on ink" pop-up?

It seems my printer starts showing the "cartridge low on ink" pop-up when there is still plenty of ink left.  Not to mention I can tell when it's truly low on ink by looking at the printed pages, duh!!  I spend way too much of my life having to close the pop-up.  There doesn't seem to be anything under the  "for more information on this topic" help link for a "turn off this %^%#% message forever" option.  Can anybody help?

Ditto. HP Photosmart Plus B209a-m Excessive INK LEVEL LOW Warnings: False PRINTER OFFLINE Warnings
This is the printer from Hades!
I have the .  HP Photosmart Plus B209a-m, Lenovo T43 running XP SP3
The ink low warning "sometimes" comes on more than once per minute! And then it opens the LARGE dialogue box right in the middle of the screen showing me ink levels (none below 25% by the way), and  * soliciting me to buy ink from them on line or from a dealer or whatever.  I close it and the three warning boxes (Ink level low-two boxes simultaneously and Printer Offline)....Then a couple minutes later all them are back. This makes the computer basically unusable.
*These frequent (every few minutes)  PRINTER OFFLINE warnings occur even though it is on line. this is a wireless enabled printer. Despite the warning that it is offline, as soon as I issue a print command the printer responds (with the ink level warnings of course, while it's printing).
How can I disable (forever) the  OFFLINE and INK LEVEL warnings?

  • Unable to scan from the printer control panel to my computer using the HP Photosmart 5510

Hi, I recently purchased the new HP Photosmart 5510 All in One --- and I’m not able to scan from my printer to my computer. I am however able to scan by initiating the scan from the computer. I spoke to HP customer care earlier this evening and we ran the print + scan doctor and did not find any problems. I’m running Windows 7 – 64bit and have installed my printer wirelessly using the Installation CD that came with the printer today. I wasn’t able to finish troubleshooting with the technician I spoke to because I had to leave for work. The Person I spoke with suggested possibly downloading the Full Feature Software from the hp.com website, which I’m happy to do but I feel that it is unnecessary because I have the install CD right here. (The rep I spoke to was very nice but I’d rather not have to uninstall and reinstall if it is not necessary) Because as I mentioned above, everything else works perfectly and I am able to scan --- just not directly from the printer itself.  When I'm trying to scan from my printer to my computer an error message comes up on the printer's control panel stating that: there is no scan destinations selected/no scan options. However, I can not find anywhere with my HP software where I could add/ensure that the destinations were there. (Like I could on my other printers. (Ie. Through the Solution Center) This printer does not seem to have a Solution Center that I could find and the Scanner Icon that was installed with the CD does not give me any options in terms of modifying the scanner settings I’m wondering: 1. Does the Hp Photosmart 5510 not have the capability to scan from the printer’s control panel? 2. OR Does the install CD that came with my printer only have the basic drivers like the tech support agent suggested? Which means in order to scan from my printer I’d have to download the drivers from your hp website? 3. Or is the issue due to something else completely?  Thanks for your help!

Hi Dublin, Follow the steps below to uninstall and reinstall the printer. 1. Open Control Panel2. Click on Uninstall a program3. Uninstall the Photosmart 6510 from the list4. Reboot your computer5. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html 6. Download the full feature software and drivers, and then reinstall the printer. Version 28.8

  • DJ 940c: Installed 78XL Cartridge, it works; printer cartridge light off; Toolbox Low Ink warning on

This is a real workhorse printer and I love it. And looking at this forum, many people feel the same way for everyday color printing. But, on Wednesday, 7/7, I bought a bew HP tri-color cartridge because the old cartridge had run out of yellow ink (for real), the printers's cartridge light was staying on and the HP DeskJet 940c Series Toolbox program had a "Tri-Color Print Cartridge Low On Ink" warning in my Win XP SP3 System Tray. The office supply chain store I went did not have the usual HP 15-78 Combo cartridge set I buy nor did it have an HP 78 tri-color standalone cartridge. They did have a 78XL tri-color cartrige which (supposedly) can print "up to 2X MORE PAGES" because it has twice the amount of ink the HP 78  cartridge has. The package listed the HP deskjet 940 and the store tech person assured me the cartige would fit and I bought it, installed it (yes, it did fit), and aligned the cartridges. A test print using a sprite jpg file I got from Amazon's site printed beautifully. The printer's cartridge light was off but then I noticed the icon in the System Tray. The HP DeskJet 940c Series Toolbox program still had a "Tri-Color Print Cartridge Low On Ink" warning. I turned the printer off, waited awhile, turned the printer on, still had the warning. Restarted the computer. Still had the warning.  Am I doomed to always have this Low Ink warning with the 78XL cartridge? Is there some value in the Window's Registry I can chage so the warning goes away until one of the cartridge colors really does get low on ink? If I can do this and I actually do this deed, will the problem occur again if I install an 15XL cartridge? Is this a problem becuause the printer driver or some other HP software does not recognize the signals coming from the 78XL Cartrige chip? If this is the case, are you going to update the drivers from way back (say Microsoft unsupported Windows98 to and through Windows 7, skip 8.x, and 10?

Is the cartridge an original HP or is it a third party remanufactured or refilled cartridge? If you open the printer lid with the power on where does the carriage pointer point?

Hello @LeeBee2 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're having scan issues.  I would like to help!
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Officejet 4620 series Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Printing with only black ink

when i bought the hp 8600 officejet pro plus,  i was toil that you didnt have to replace the empty color catridges to print in black ink only.  i have jsut found out that is not true.  is there a way to make printer print without replacing collor cartridges?

Most likely the confusion is caused because the Office Depot sales person and the bushiness associate did not distinguish between the different kinds of printers.
There are generally a few different technologies used for inkjet printers - those like the Deskjet 6940 that have printheads and ink supplies integrated together are called Integrated Print Head (IPH) printers.
Another style has separate individual ink supplies and printheads.  This style has printheads that may be permanent and non-replaceable, or they may be replaceable after some number of ink supplies.  These are called Individual Ink Cartridge (IIC) printers.   An Examples are the Photosmart C7280, which has permanent non-replaceable printheads and the Officejet 8600 and 6700 which have replaceable printheads.
Most IPH printers will happily print with one (or even both) cartridges low on ink or empty.  Recent models will often allow printing even if one of the cartridges is removed completely, switching automatically to "reserve mode" or "ink backup mode".
IIC printers have long life printheads and generally have plumbing to connect the ink supplies to the printheads.  These printers (whether from HP or other manufacturers) generally require ink available in all colors to prevent air bubbles in the plumbing ar printhead.  Some ink is also required to keep the nozzles from clogging.  Even in the case of printing black only the color printheads are waving around in the air and may dry out.  Some ink is required to keep the printhead from drying out.
The document here has some information on how ink is used.

  • HP M1136 unable to scan & photocopy due to showing busy

Unable to scan & copying due to showing BUSY

Hi , I see that you are having issues scanning and copying, you are getting the error message "Busy". I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue today.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation. I will send you another step to try in a private message.

  • Unable to scan and communicate with scan function C6180 Vista Home Premium 64 bit Printing works

I have an all in one C6180 Photosmart connected by wireless network (infrastructure). Network consists of 2-laptops, 1-Desktop and the printer.  Everything works from HP solution Center on the Compaq laptop and the Dell desktop both running Windows XP. My newest laptop is a Dell studio XPS core2   2.4ghz running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I am unable to scan from the Dell Laptop using HP Solution Center nor can I scan from the printer buttons to the laptop. Solution Center opens I select "scan document" and immediately get an error message "unable to communicate with scanning device. Likewise with the copy function.  The laptop does recognize the printer though and I am able to print wirelessly.  All functions work when connected via USB so I believe the printer is fine.  I have been working with this problem since I bought the printer in 2007. I spent many hours reading hundreds of internet posts, talking by phone with HP and via e-mail support from HP.  I became frustrated and gave up for awhile but now I want to see if there are any new solutions that I don't know about. I downloaded full feature software and drivers for the 6180 from HP and performed various levels of uninstall (L1, L2, L3, L4). I also cleaned the registry with ccleaner, windows disk cleanup and manual registry deletions when allowed per HP. I have checked port settings, tried stopping HP functions is Services.Msc. The Digital monitor is currently running, however no scanner communication-computer to 6180 and no scanner communication 6180 to computer. I can print and fax from computer wirelessly. I have ran the HP diagnostic utility separately and it appears everything is fine, connection IPaddress etc. During install when prompted to run test it says the printer is connected to the network. I have tried to add a device to the network after install and get the message no wireless devices found. The scanner does not appear under Cameras and Scanners in control panel. Nor will it find the scanner when I try to add device. Firewalls and antivirus have been turned off. Still can't make it work. Suggestions please.

Sorry about your pain.  L3 uninstall is what I recommend.  Re-install from hp.com and this time, with the printer properly attached it should flow OK.

  • HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2060 K110 all in one printer. unable to scan to my computer.

I have issues with my HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 2060 K110 all-in-one printer. I used to be able to scan from my printer to my computer without any hitch. Yesterday however, I started receiving a message that my computer cannot detect my printer's "scan dialogue". So I can no longer scan to my computer. I still can print and copy documents just fine though. I've trfied the HP Print & Scan Doctor but my issue still persists. What can be my problem?

Hi Rocky_Balboa, Welcome to the HP Forums!  I see that you can't scan with your Deskjet Ink Advantage 2060 K110. Are you able to make copies with the printer? In the meantime, please take a look at this guide. • Printer cartridges HP 8610

We use 99% black ink, new computer HP8610. Message low on yellow ink, I take time away from work to drive to another city to get the ink $28.99.  Get back to the office insert the High Yield Cartridge, and now it says I need Blue ink.  What the f___, yesterday the scan showed only the yellow was low.  I still can not print and have a stack of emails and POs to copy.
How do I adjust the printer to print black only........ next buy will not be a HP.

The printer will use some ink from each color when a cartridge is replaced to "prime" the air out of the printhead.  If the cyan was nearly depleted replacing the yellow ink cartridge could have depleted it.  I would suggest checking the ink levels for the magenta cartridge as well, it is likely low.
HP and other printer manufacturers have different printer technologies for different needs.  For inkjet printers:
Some have printheads built into the ink cartridges.  These printers can typically print with one or more of the colors completely empty, or even with color or black (but not both) cartridges removed. The Officejet 8040 is an example.
Other printers have separate ink supplies and replaceable printheads.  An example would be the Officejet 8610 printer.  The printhead in these printers can be replaced if they are damaged by running the printhead with colors out.  Some of these printers will allow printing with a color out, other will not.  If the printer is run without ink in one or more colors the printer may be damaged, but the user may be able to recover without having to send the printer for service.  Running the printer without ink may damage the printhead.
Other printers have permanent printheads.  To run these without some ink in all the colors would risk causing damage to the printhead due to clogs, air ingested in the printhead or burned out printhead firing resistors. The Officejet 6700 is an example of this type of printer. For printers with fixed printheads this could require service to get the printer to print properly again when the ink is finally replaced.
The document here describes how ink is used.  While the document is written for HP Inkjet printers the same principles apply to inkjet printers from other manufacturers.
If you never print in color a laser printer would likely be a better choice.  If you occasionally print color but mostly black an IPH printer like those in the first category above may be a better choice.

  • Pc2510 Check Right Printer Cartridge/Not Supported/Hourglass Errors

    Hello!
If anyone has had success resolving these errors, please let me know, even if it has meant replacing your print cartridge. Thanks!
    Error Description:
Original problem: The printer cartridge error message "Check Right Printer Cartridge" is blocking any use of the psc 2510, including scan and nonprinting noncopying functions.
Current problem:Hourglass freeze accompanied by printer sounds (alignment?) which stop, but screen message never advances past hourglass..
    Summary of Troubleshooting:
I received an error saying: check cartridge in right stall. Tried cleaning contacts on printer cartridge and printer contacts with distilled water. In process of employing other tactics in online tutorial, I tried unplugging power while the printer was open. Ever since, it just runs through hourglass and printer sound, but does not advance past this screen icon.
    Customer Technical Support:
Suggested a semi-reset of # and 6 keys plus unplug and replug or try new print cartridge. When asked if there was anything I could try before purchase of a new cartridge, suggested I unplug and hold power buton for 10 seconds, then replug. (Full description of these at bottom). Upon further research, representative suggested an upgrade.
Hourglass fix attempts employed from forums:
Tried to plug into wall outlet vs. power strip. (Fully plugged in loose connection to brick when noticed was not in all the way.) Reset modem. No results.
    What I Haven't Tried:
Have not tried a new printer cartridge until have exhausted all non-monetary fixes.
    Full Description of Troubleshooting:
The first error: check cartridge in right stall occurred suddenly after problem-free use.
The contacts on the black cartridge were cleaned but the error persisted.
After disconnecting use for a time, I reconnected last night to troubleshoot printer cartridge error on current Mac machine. Installation was completed successfully.
The same error occurred once setup was complete.
    I performed the following:
    1) cleaned contacts on black cartridge using distilled water.
    2) unplugged power cord (per post in forum)
    3) unplugged power cord and tried pressing cancel/left arrow (per same post in forum)
    4) cleaned contacts behind black cartridge on printer
    5) removed black cartridge, closed machine and got insert black cartridge error (attempt to determine which cartridge was the problem)
    6) Even though this message appeared to indicate the black cartridge was the problem (per web support article) I cleaned the contacts on and behind the color cartridge as well.
In the course of all of this trouble shooting I got a second error: "Print cartridge in right stall not supported."
I noticed that the fit is looser than in the color cartridge. I inspected the spring and cartridge area for damage and found none. Cleaned dirt however below contacts on machine.
Also, at one point during the trouble shooting I was able to get to the scan menu but then it quickly reverted to the first error message.
    7) Per general support article online, I tried unplugging the power while the lid was opened (as indicated during cleaning of cartridges.) This information was not in the manual that came with my machine. I was hoping this might reset things.
Then I got the third error: a period of sounds of the printer (alignment?) followed by hour glass on screen.
The 2510 appears to be frozen. No buttons like cancel or menu or on button caused any response.
I unplugged it again (this time with the lid closed) and got the same series. A period of sounds like alignment and then a halt of sounds with the hourglass still on the screen.
Customer Service Rep sent the following:
    Email 1:
    1.      While the printer is powered on, without turning it off, unplug the power cable from it.
    2.      Press and hold the # and 6 keys together and while you are holding them, plug the power cord into the printer
    3.      Hold the keys for about 30 seconds, while the printer tries to power on, and release the buttons.
    4.      If the printer turns off, use the on button to power on the printer, and follow the instructions on the display.
If it still comes up with the same error, I request you to try with a new black cartridge and get back to us with the results.
    Email 2:
    1.      While the printer is powered on, without turning off the printer, unplug the power cable from it
    2.      Press and hold the on button for about 10 seconds and release it.
    3.      After about 1 minute, plug the power cord back and try powering on the unit.
The reason I suggested to try with a new cartridge is because whenever the printer powers on, it does a self test to make sure all the hardware components are working fine, which includes the cartridges. So if there is any error with the cartridge, then the printer might freeze if it is unable to determine the cause of the issue or the point of failure.
    Email 3:
I did some research and the issue seems more likely with the hardware of the printer.[...]
If the issue persists, get back to us with the information below for upgrade options for your printer.
    Forums:
I then tried unplugging from power strip into wall outlet and resetting modem without result. Noticed blue light for wireless connection is no longer on.

I had the same issue with my 7610 (error=print cartridge not installed correctly), and tried some of the listed suggestions - opened up another brand new cartridge - same issue; put the old one back in - same issue.  So I knew it wasn't a defective cartridge, but rather something wrong with the spring that supports the cartridge, because it didn't seem to 'click' in correctly anymore.  Compared the spring on the black (right) side, to the color (left) side, and saw the spring hanging down.  Put it back in place a couple times - still without success - until I looked closer and saw that part of the plastic that holds the spring in place must have just broken off.  Tried t a little piece of tape to hold the spring in place, and finally, the cartridge worked - for now.  Hope this helps someone else if they're having the same issue.  Good luck!
