Unable to script InDesign CS3 in Vista

I am trying to script Indesign through VB.NET 2003 on a new Vista machine.
Read other posts about this; I can't even add the Reference to InDesign CS3 in the COM tab 9it is not there). I upgraded to version 5.0.2 with no effect; Vista is at SP 1.
After a lot of searching i Found the Resources for Visual Basic.tlb file; tried to browse to it and reference that way (results in VS 'Reference could not be added' message).
Tried regsvr32 with the .tlb file; Vista says it is probably not a correct COM version.
What to do now, could someone from Adobe help here ?

Not a solution by my problem may be similar. Have hplj4000 printing via home network using Windows xp. New laptop using Vista, cannot intall printer because of missing drivers. I downloaded drivers for vista and it says that I dont have the right driver?  This vista sucks...

    any one know what script can make it ???

    Loic, great job, that's a very useful script!
    I found myself using it a lot, so I created an enhanced version, borrowing a few lines from yours, I hope that's ok with you. My script fixes most of the problems, and it installs itself in InDesign's menu system, so it is virtually indistinguishable from a built-in command. Once you run it, you can reach it via "Object > Break Into Columns". If you set the script to load when InDesign starts, you don't even have to use the scripts panel at all.
    Fixes/Enhancements over Loic's version/previous versions (hope I get that formatting right):
    * The code no longer uses script labels. Existing script labels are no longer lost and the command can be run more than once per document without manually clearing out all script labels first.
    * The script now installs itself into InDesign's "Object" menu. The menu item is disabled automatically if the command cannot be run (for example if no text frame is selected).
    * Frames with only one column are handled correctly
    * Z order is preserved
    * Text Frame attributes such as Fill, Stroke etc. are preserved
    * Locked frames are handled correctly (i.e. the command is grayed out)
    * Text threads are preserved
    * Assigned InCopy frames are dealt with correctly. They used to lose the link to the original story file and end up as "Unassigned InCopy Content"
    * Assigned InCopy frames no longer need to be checked out for the script to work
    * The new frames end up on the same layer as the original one
    * The new frames end up on the same page/spread as the original one, rather than being placed on the first page of the document
    Know Issues:
    * Choosing "Edit > Undo" will undo the script in steps. I don't know if there is a way for scripts to act as transactions in the scripting interface, but using the C++ API just for that is probably not worth it.
    * Transforms such as rotated frames are not handled correctly
    * Only InDesign 5.0 (CS3) and above is supported
    Here is the download link:
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/s9fcae
    Hope this is useful.

  • InDesign CS3 Visual Basic Type Library GUIDs difference in XP and Vista

    I have started migrating to Vista for some of our applications and have run across an issue. After installing InDesign CS on Vista I went to run one of the Applications and it did not work when calling COM object from the Adobe InDesign CS3 Type Library {666F676B-7790-4B6F-B691-EC43C6F94C18}. After investigating it turns out that the type library isnt installed with this GUID in the registry instead it has been installed under GUID {B694A47E-004D-48e0-AE77-B37A9CC18760}. I have tried to uninstall the install InDesign but this still doesnt register the type library under the right value {666F676B-7790-4B6F-B691-EC43C6F94C18}. Has anyone suggestly used C# to access the Visual Basic Type Library on Vista?

    I have resolved this. Basically the installation of InDesign CS3 on Vista doesn't register the COM interfaces in the registry. Once I registered all the interfaces everything is working.

  • InDesign CS3 & Leopard - Continual crashing all the time!

    3 months ago (Jan 2008) when Adobe released update 5.0.2 to InDesign CS3, the release notes read:-
    "This update does not address recently identified issues running Adobe InDesign CS3 on Mac OS
    X Leopard (v10.5.1). Known issues include the following:
    • Users are unable to hide InDesign CS3 using the cmd+h keyboard shortcut.
    • InDesign CS3 may unexpectedly quit when using the Place, Save, Save As or Export
    commands using either the OS or Adobe dialog boxes.
    Unfortunately, there are no workarounds for these known issues. Adobe and Apple are working
    closely to provide fixes. Initial testing indicates that these fixes should be provided through an
    update to Mac OS X Leopard. Consequently, it is not part of the InDesign CS3 5.0.2 update.
    No public schedule for these fixes is available at this time, but both companies understand their
    urgency and are working to address this."
    It's just as bad (if not worse) in 10.5.2. 3 months and no solution. No word from Apple, even though my work G5 is submitting several crash reports per day to both Adobe and Apple.
    If anyone from Apple reads these lists, could they confirm they are going to fix this, or do I revert to Tiger, trash Leopard completely.
    <post edited by host>

    Hey, I've also been having the same issues with InDesign CS3 since installing Leopard on my iMac G5 PPC... have reinstalled said OS and software 4 times now... but still getting crashes and the dreaded 'serious error...InDesign is shutting down...' warnings when relinking, replacing and exporting (sometimes when saving too) in ID.
    It seems there are so many of us having these problems, so at least it isn't user/machine-specific (unless I need more RAM..). However, one of the support guys at Apple (UK) gave me another helpful (temporary) fix, which works until they fix it PROPERLY. I tried working from the Desktop and cutting/pasting everything into a new file, but this one works better:
    Quit ID, go to your User (the house symbol)>Library>Caches>Adobe InDesign>Version 5>'InDesign Saved Data' and add '.old' onto this file or just drag it to the Desktop.
    Then go to Library>Preferences>Adobe InDesign>Version 5>'InDesign Defaults' and add '.old' onto that file as well or drag it to the Desktop.
    Then restart ID and you'll notice your preferences are back to default (i.e. picas instead of mm/inches etc.) and no more crashes - until you start changing the prefs again....
    The other tip was that the account you work from has become corrupted, but I found the above fix works for a while. Hope that's helped, but like the rest of you, this problem is wasting valuable working time and needs sorting ASAP.

  • InDesign CS3 freezing with Vista

    Recently upgraded to Vista 32bit. InDesign CS3 files are freezing.  Unable to open files again even after ending program and rebooting computer. Help.

    Once I try to open an .indd file, InDesign keeps trying to open it
    without success. I have to reboot my computer to get it InDesign to
    open. When it does open, it shows all functions but it won't open any
    files. Tried moving the Suitcase folder to another location but
    couldn't. Had difficulty just getting the fonts to work in the
    beginning.  Do you advise uninstalling InDesign and then reinstalling?
    Is this a compatibility problem with this version of Vista?  Should I
    consider upgrading to CS4?

  • XSLT or Scripts (Mac -Indesign CS3)

    Good Morning Everybody,
    We are planning now to move our Journal (XML) production into Indesign CS3.
    I've been successfully (though with limitations, as I am newbie in Indesign) implemented our books productions into Indesign CS2. This has been achieved thru using XSLT and Javascript expertise.
    I've fair knowledge of XML features, like xpath, xslt, XSL, XSL:FO and Javascript though I still learning new things when it comes to use Javascripts in Indesign.
    Well coming back to my query regarding Journals in Indesign, I am writing a style sheet, which transforms the xml input with all required formatting (paragraph, character styles), data manipulations, successfully inserting the punctuations specially in references, which can imported into INDCS2.
    When it comes to informations like "Running Heads", "Journal informations, like volume, print issn, electronic issn" author infos in 2nd page onwards etc etc...In all these cases, I would prefer to use the XSLT (XML contains all these info) instead of scripts, simply because of reason, which I mentioned earlier that I am newbie in using Javascript in Indesign and there are may be some limitations of scripts in Indesign (Although thanks to Adobe for introducing XPath in CS3).
    It was pretty easy for me to tackle/automate all these issues in other pagination platform (and the template was generic) using various scripts, XML features etc, but as I said we would also like to transit few of our journals into Indesign CS2/CS3
    I've also tried to search the forum for possible answers but not very successfully. Can somebody suggest/guide how we should go about it? I don't mind to using scripts, if it is the best way of handling and developing a generic template. Or may be to look into other plug-ins, languages to make it successful.
    Apology for writing such a long details but I thought I should made it clear what I am looking for.
    Any help/guidance in this regard will be highly appreciated.

  • InDesign CS3 script that changes fonts on open

    Hello.
    I am trying to come up with a script that would change a specific group of fonts, that will always show up missing, to the new font. Basically, it is a bunch of our postscript fonts that are now using our open type font. Below is what I have so far. I want to create a list that goes through about 8 fonts that are old and replace them on the fly with the 8 new fonts. This would be great if I could have this happen on open.
    Can anyone see what I have and offer some guidance?
    thanks
    babs
    Open this Scriplet in your Editor:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
       set find text preferences to nothing
       set change text preferences to nothing
       tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
           set OLDfont to {"times", "arial"}
           set NEWfont to {"times new roman", "helvetica"}
           --set find what of find text preferences to testString
           tell document 1
               repeat with swap from 1 to 2
                   set NEWfont to item swap of OLDfont
               end repeat
           end tell
       end tell
    end tell

    For starters, you're going to have to use the correct font names, including correct capitalization. The property you want to change is "applied font", not "find what". And it would probably be more sensible, to go through all paragraph and character styles and make the changes there first, otherwise you'll have troubles again every time you edit stuff.
    So start off by getting the name of the font used in every paragraph style, and loop through your list to see if they should be changed. Do the same for character styles. And then do the find/change to find any that have been applied manually.

    Hi,

    Hi,
    Can you give me information for both cases? The truth is that I need to monitor something related with an InDesign plug-in and maybe one or both methods could help me.

  • Missing Plugins.  Unable to open InDesign CS4 file, using CS3.

    There are various updates InDesign CS3 available;
    Adobe InDesign 5.0.2, 5.0.3, and 5.0.4.dmg etc, plus 'Digital Editions'.
    Which one provides correct plugins to allow opening of a CS4 originated file in CS3?
    Alternatively, is there a link which provides a utility which will automatically detect which
    plugins you require to update from CS3>CS4?
    Thanks very much.

    My script in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4071273 will identify with what version of ID a file is created, which may be helpful at times. (Aside, you may be the first to try it with CS3 -- so it might not work.)
    Nothing to be ashamed of on your side, really. That infernally misleading "upgrade your plugins" 'error' dialog has been confusing first-time users from the very first time some lazy programmer at Adobe opted for a quick shortcut in programming and be at home before rush hour.

  • Sechs-Ecken-Objekt mit InDesign CS3-Script / JavaScript ???

    Hallo.
    Können Sie mir evtl.  helfen? Siehe Bild im Anhang.
    Wie kann ich dieses Sechs-Ecken-Objekt (Kontur 1 Pkt nach innen) mit Indesign-Script erstellen ? (InDesign CS3-Script / JavaScript)
    myPolySCHATTEN = myDocument.pages.item(0).polygons.add();   ???
    oder mit
    myPath = myDocument.paths.item(0).add();                                  ???
    Oder... ????
    Freundliche Grüße,
    AndreasRoe aus Germany

    Piece of cake.
    You can either create a default Rectangle or Polygon, and add and move the points around, or -- my preferred way -- add a GraphicLine and add the other points to that path, until you are nearly done. Then set the path type to "Closed", and you are really done.
    For starters, let's create a regular rectangle the hard way:
    var hoehe = 10;
    var breite = 20;
    newrect = app.activeDocument.graphicLines.add ();
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints[0].anchor = [0,0];
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints[1].anchor = [0, hoehe];
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints.add({anchor:[breite,hoehe]});
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints.add({anchor:[breite,0]});
    newrect.paths[0].pathType = PathType.CLOSED_PATH;
    Run this and experiment with breite / höhe.
    If you look at your drawing, you can see you need an inset value for the chopped off corners. You can also see where to add the new points, when you start counting at top left. That results in this -- notice how breite / höhe are adjusted one by one:
    var hoehe = 50;
    var breite = 100;
    var inset = 4;
    newrect = app.activeDocument.graphicLines.add ();
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints[0].anchor = [0,0];
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints[1].anchor = [0, hoehe - inset];
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints.add({anchor:[inset,hoehe]});
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints.add({anchor:[breite,hoehe]});
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints.add({anchor:[breite,inset]});
    newrect.paths[0].pathPoints.add({anchor:[breite-inset,0]});
    newrect.paths[0].pathType = PathType.CLOSED_PATH;

  • Unable to Insert Footnote in Indesign CS3

    We are using InDesign CS3 and that file has lot of footnotes. InDesign CS3 quits automatically when we click the option "Insert Footnote" in Indesign CS3. Not even insert one footnote on this chapter.
    Insert Footnote option will work in New document, but the same option doesn't work in the actual InDesign document. I tried to converted the InDesign file as .INX format and then opened it again in InDesign CS3. Eventhough the Footnote option does not work. Please help me to solve this issue.

    Does it quit when you try to insert a footnote *anywhere* in that document? Or just in the one spot where you want the footnote?
    I've seen ID react badly (though not quit) to footnotes in certain places, somewhere that causes it to have pagination difficulty, like if adding a footnote would cause a paragraph to break, but that paragraph is not allowed to break.
    What happens when you try to insert a footnote in a totally different place?

  • [InDesign CS3] Unable to place PICT image on InDesign document.

    Hi all,
    I am trying to place a PICT type image on InDesign CS3 document but it is being shown disabled in open dialog. And when I drag this image(PICT type) to InDesign document, I am getting an error message "Quick Time and a TIFF (uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture".
    Note: This problem is coming on both MAC and Windows.
    Thanks in anticipation

    When you place content from InDesign, why are you exporting it as JPG?
    You can either
    save the INDD file and place it directly into InDesign or
    export the INDD as PDF/X-4 and place it into InDesign.
    This should result in better quality than using JPGs which will be always a loss of crispyness, change of colors, blurry text and loss of quality.

    Hi Bert,
    Find and change in InDesign CS3 changed quite a bit from CS2, and scripting changed as well. Tell your friend to look at the examples of find and change in the Text chapter of the Adobe InDesign CS3 Scripting Guide: JavaScript--you can find the PDF and the associated scripts at:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/indesign/scripting/index.html
    ...and click the Scripting Resources tab.
    In brief: the search method was removed, and find and change methods corresponding to the find/change type were added (findText, changeText, findGrep/changeGrep, findGlyph/changeGlyph). The find/change preferences objects were also removed, and preferences objects corresponding to the new find/change types were added (findTextPreferences, changeTextPreferences, findGrepPreferences, changeGrepPreferences, findGlyphPreferences, changeGlyphPreferences).
    Thanks,
    Ole
