Unable to see markups in Outlook 2010 attachment preview

Hi,
I am unable to see markup tags which were done in Word 2010 in the Outlook 2010 attachment preview window. The word file normally gets marked up and sent as an attachment. Most of the time the attachment preview will highlight the markup over the words and
when the mouse is hovered over it will show the actual comment. For a couple of my users, this has stopped working.
When they double-click on the attachment they also cannot see the comments. However, if they save it to the local or network drive and then open the file all the markups will automatically appear.
As a test I asked them to send me the email which had this problem to see if this happens on my Outlook and I cannot see the markups either. So I guess something must have happened with the Word file?
Any ideas what this could be? The documents were originally composed in Word 2010 as far as I know. I have also created a test markup file and emailed this to myself and this shows the highlights fine.
I attach a picture of when its working well.
But with the documents that my users have this does not show.
Any suggestions really appreciated.

Hi,
What if we copy all the content from the problematic Word document and paste it to a new blank document, save and attach it to an email, will you see the markup?
Please let me know the result.

Steve Fan

  • Outlook 2010 attachment previewer problem

    Dear All,
I recently upgraded to the office 2010 beta, and have been quite pleased with the new system, until i tried to view an image that was attached to an email. I keep getting on any type of image or pdf that the previewer is not available ad to double click to open the file. I then get photo viewer telling me it can't open the file. So i saved the file to my desktop and try to open the jpg in any program such a photshop, illustrator or fireworks and it tells me there is an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found."
I can't open any files that are attached to emails, which is getting really annoying now. I have tried everything i can think of, running outlook as an admin, turning off image previewers, checking image previewers are enabled, i've tried the protection settings, and disabling it for Outlook.
Nothing will work. I've searched google and found a few solutions where they say this is caused by google desktop search causing problems and that uninstalling it solves the issue, however I don't have google desktop search installed, just google toolbar.
Its starting to drive me round the bend, i've even ran and repaired the pst file which didn't make any difference either.
Have reported it as a frown but not holding my breath for a response.
    System:
    Windows 7 64 bit
Office 2010 32 bit beta version
The laptop is 2 weeks old from Dell and all updates are applied.
    Can anyone shed any light?
    Thanks
    Tom

I am having a problem which is a variation on the same theme.  What is even more odd is that I have a laptop and desktop which I installed Outlook 2010 on and they behave very differently.  On my laptop, I can easily view all doc and docx
attachments, while on my desktop, these very same attachments are not recognized or are considered as corrupt documents.  I have been fiddling around with trusted locations on my desktop (e.g., trusting my server folders etc.) but so far no success -
even after reinstallation of 2010 on the desktop.  My laptop's Outlook works fine without having to trust any particular location.  I installed Outlook on my desktop after doing a fresh install of the XP OS while the Outlook installation was an upgrade
of Office 2007 with a fairly weather beaten XP registry.  So currently, I see no rhyme or reason except that it appears that the 2010 installation is highly highly sensitive.  Hopefully there is a quick fix to this or I might also have to roll back
to an earlier version of Outlook.
    Had the same issue.
    Here is the fix
    Hello,
I finally found out what the issue is with this.  It actually isn't a "Protected view" issue, but a DCOM issue.
Somehow the DCOM permission got changed, so it wouldn't allow certain applications access to simple things like Preview mode on Outlook 2010 / 2007, or opening up attachments without it saying file corrupt.  I also was having an issue with Pop ups in
IE8, where javascript messages about security tokens were not authenticated.
The solution is as follows, and then you can turn on your protected mode back on in word, excel, and your "Preview mode" in outlook will start working again.
Go to start, then run.  Type dcomcnfg and push o.k. Component Services should come up.
Expand Component Services, click on Computers, then "Right click" on My Computer and go to "properties".
Click on Default Properties tab, and make sure the following is set:
Default Authentication Level: Should say Connect, not "None"
And Default Impersonation Level: SHould say Identify.
When those are set properly, hit o.k and turn on your protected mode back on your Office applications.  Everything works as expected :)
    Cheers :)

  • Unable to see PDF in Outlook but OWA can

    Hi,
I need some expert advise on how to fix this issue. I have searched to resolve the issue and found this links but seemed
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/478c326b-486b-461c-9141-dd544b245c75/outlook-20032007-cannot-see-attachments-but-owa-can?forum=exchangesvrclientslegacy
    and tried this as described above;
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954684/en-us
A user forwarded me the email that should have a PDF attachment and I received it in Outlook 2010. There is a paper clip but no attachment to download. I tried OWA and was there. I tried with Outlook 2003 and 2007 and not there too. After, I run KB954684,
I forwarded the email I received to another user, logged on to that user and attachment is not there and but OWA has it.
    Thanks,
    Pete

    Hi,
    What is your exchange version?
The following article for your reference, it may give us some help:
Attachments visible in OWA but not in Outlook
If you are using Exchange Server 2010:
    - Stop the Exchange Transport service;
    - Locate the EdgeTransport.exe.config file (located in the following path: <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Bin\);</drive>
    - In the EdgeTransport.exe.config file, add the following entry between the
    /appSettings
    <appsettings></appsettings>element and the /appSettings
    element: add key="TreatInlineDispositionAsAttachment" value="true" /
    - Restart the Transport service.
If using Exchange Server 2007, just install Service Pack 2 and run the following command:
    Set-OrganizationConfig –ShowInlineAttachments $True
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • Outlook 2010 attachment size limit

We're using a sendmail server for our email and have been using Outlook 2003 for the client.  I'm evaluating Outlook 2010 but we've hit a snag.  Total attachments over ~20MB result in a "The attachment size exceeds the allowable limit".
    This works fine under 2003.
    How can I fix this?

    Hi,
First, please let us know the email server you are using. Is it Exchange and what’s the version? Also, does this issue occur on all the client computers or only
    one some of the computers?
As this issue might be related to some settings on the Exchange server side, you may also contact your network administrator to check the settings on the server side.
If there are no attachment limitation settings on the server side, we can troubleshoot the issue by the steps below:
Step 1: Disable background transfer of attachments to the Exchange server.
    =============
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you
follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
    1. Run regedit on the outlook client computer that has the issue.
    2. Locate the following registry key:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook]
    3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
    Value name: DisableBGSave
    Data type: REG_DWORD
    Radix: Hexadecimal
    Value data: 1
Note: You will see the Policies key if policies are deployed in your environment. If so, add the registry key under the following registry key:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook]
    4. Restart Outlook and test the issue again. Is the issue resolved? If the problem persists, let’s continue.
Step 2: Start Outlook in online mode/safe mode.
    =============
    1. In Outlook, click File > Info > Account settings > Account settings.
    2. Click your Exchange account, and click the
    Change button, then More settings,
Advanced tab. Uncheck Use cached Exchange mode.
    3. Exit Outlook . Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to
    Microsoft Office.
    4. Press and hold the
CTRL key, and then click Microsoft Outlook.
Is the problem resolved? If not, let’s continue.
Step 3: Create a new Outlook profile.
    =============
    1.    Exit Outlook.
    2.
Go to Start > Control Panel, click or double-click
    Mail.
Mail appears in different Control Panel locations depending upon the version of the Microsoft Windows operating system, Control Panel view selected, and whether a
32- or 64-bit operating system or version of Outlook is installed.
    The easiest way to locate
Mail is to open Control Panel in Windows, and then in the
Search box at the top of window, type Mail. In
Control Panel for Windows XP, type Mail in the
    Address box.
    Note
The Mail icon appears after Outlook starts for the first time.
The title bar of the Mail Setup dialog box contains the name of the current profile. To select a different existing profile, click Show Profiles, select the profile
    name, and then click Properties.
    3.
Click Show Profiles. Choose Prompt for a profile to be used.
    4.
    Click Add.
    5.
Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.
    6.
Start Outlook, and choose this new profile.
If this problem does not occur in the new Outlook profile, the old Outlook is corrupted. We can delete that and use a new Outlook profile.
Step 4: If it still not resolved, create a new Outlook profile on another PC that does not have this issue, then check to see if it persists. This can help us to narrow
down that if the issue is specific to the machines.
Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for
you, please feel free to let me know.
    Best Regards,
    Sally Tang

  • Unable to add account to Outlook 2010 for email address under custom domain

I am unable to add a new account in Outlook 2010 for an email account set up under a custom domain.
Can anyone explain why login credentials that work for outlook.com (successful access to email inbox) return an authentication failure (401 error) when used to test connectivity via https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com?
    Details:
I set up a custom domain at https://domains.live.com and did the following DNS configuration steps at my web hosting company following instructions from domains.live.com:
    Created custom MX record
Created CNAME record [name:] autodiscover.jrergonomics.com [value:] autodiscover.outlook.com.
I created email addresses at domains.live.com > jrergonomics.com > Member accounts and tested by successfully logging in to outlook.com.
When I try to add either account to Outlook 2010, I get a popup box with this information:
    Title: "Windows Security"
    Connecting to [email protected]
    [[email protected]]
    [ ] Remember my credentials
                                       [   OK   ]  [  Cancel
The credentials that I use successfully to log in to outlook.com don't work here; I get the popup box 3-4 times and then the Outlook 2010 Add New Account dialog displays an error:
"An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available. Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection."
Clicking Next results in an error message:
    "Problem Connecting to Server"
I have tried verifying the connectivity using https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com:

  • Create a DL group which does not expand to see members in outlook 2010

    Hi
I have 2010 exchange server and client side outlook 2010. A special request come from my management, to create a distribution list where the users are  restricted not  to see who are the members of that group.
Is is possible to restrict the expansion of the this particular  DL group?
    Thanks
    Venky

Sorry, but hiding the membership of a static distribution group isn't possible -- at least not with Exchange.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dgoldman/archive/2007/12/14/why-hiding-distribution-memberships-in-exchange-2007-is-not-supported.aspx
You can, however, manipulate the permissions on a group with ADUC:
    http://exchangepedia.com/2007/11/how-to-hide-distribution-group-membership.html
However, following that advice may prevent even the owner of the DL from seeing (or managing) the membership of the group.
Which leads to more extensive manipulation (which allows for ADDing members but not for removing them):
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kamleshk/archive/2012/02/01/managing-distribution-groups-with-un-hidden-membership.aspx
Even with all of that, it's still possible (with persistence) to discover the membership -- the address book still shows the groups you're a member of. And let's not forget the use of read receipts. :-)
All in all, the best way to deal with this is to use a dynamic distribution group where there are no static members.

  • Outlook 2010 attachment not received

    Hi,
in a system with Windows Server 2008 and Outlook 2010 I'm facing this problem: mails are received always without attachment. The problem occours with both Exchange and simply POP/SMTP mail accounts.
I've already verify that mails are always sent with HTML format (no RTF).
The problem is appeared after last week updates.
Anyone has faced this problem or have some information about some issues with new updates?
    Thank you!!

    Hi,
Try to send and receive the emails via OWA and Webmail only, check if the attachments exist.
I have noticed some issues have occurred since the February 10, 2015 update for Outlook 2010 (KB2956128), but this symptom is the first time to be seen. To verify if your issue is related, uninstall this update temporarily to check the result.

  • Outlook 2010 Technical Preview and Blackberry Desktop Manager

Hi There, This is my first post in this forum, requesting you to kindly help as I am really stuck. Coming back to the issue, I have recently installed the MS Office 2010 Technical Preview and am very much enjoying the same. However, I failed to make my Blackberry Desktop Manager 5 work with it, so am unable to sync my BB now Please help. Regards,

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Because you're using software that is not yet official, its in your own hands.  I'm pretty sure that the Desktop Manager software is not yet compatible with Office 2010 as it's not yet an official release.  Unfortunately this is the catch with using beta software or technical previews.  Software developers must rewrite their software to ensure it is compatible with that software and because there can often be changes between the beta or technical preview and the final version, many software developers prefer to wait until the official version is out before releasing their own fully compatible program.
At this point, you have two options as I see it:
Downgrade from the Office 2010 Technical Preview to a compatible version of Microsoft Office.
Don't sync with Microsoft Outlook until a compatibleupgrade of Desktop Manager is released.

  • Exchange 2013 / Outlook 2010+ Attachment size limit

I have an issue with my Exchange 2013 deployment.  I am unable to send attachments over 10MB.  I know, I know not another one of those threads, but I promise I have searched for a solution to my issue as best I can before posting.
So in the EMC I have set the Send/Receive connectors to unlimited, I have set the organizational limits to unlimited, I have even set both the Internal and ExternalDsnMaxMessageAttachSize
    to 2047MB.
I have restarted the the Exchange Transport service, failing that I restarted the Exchange Box.  I have closed and opened my Outlook Client Several times but when ever
I select an attachment over 10MB I get the message "The Attachment size exceed the allowable limit"
There must be something I am missing but I can't see it.  I did also check my (and other) user accounts to confirm that no limits had somehow been set, they are all unconfigured or
blank in the EMC which my research has told means there is no limit on the account.
Now I know in in non exchange environment there are limits on the client, but attached to an exchange server these limits are supposed to be driven by exchange.

    1. If you send a message larger than 10MB from an external client to your org, does it bounce back because its over the limit?
    2. Do you see the same problem sending internally with OWA?

  • Email Stuck in Outlook 2010 outbox

First let me say that I use Outlook 2010 and for the most part I am VERY happy with it.  But yesterday I was sending emails with attachments and 4 out of the 8 that I sent are still stuck in the outbox.  If I send other emails that do not have attachments it is still taking a long time for them to go through.  I have now had to go to my hotmail account to send mail (which is what I did not want to do since I use Outlook) so that it can bypass the stuck emails.  Is there a way to move/delete something to get them gone so that I can send mail like before?

I understand that you are unable to send emails in Outlook 2010. The emails got stuck in the Outbox.
Based on the current situation, this issue can be caused by several factors, such as Internet connection, Outlook settings or corrupted outlook profile. We can try the following methods to see if the problem can be resolved.
    Method 1:
    ====================
Click the “Send/Receive” tab, then click “Send all”.
    Method 2: New Outlook profile
    ==============
    1.            Exit Outlook.
    2.            Go to Start > Control Panel, click or double-click Mail.
Mail appears in different Control Panel locations depending upon the version of the Microsoft Windows operating system, Control Panel view selected, and whether a 32- or 64-bit operating system or version of Outlook is installed.
The easiest way to locate Mail is to open Control Panel in Windows, and then in the Search box at the top of window, type Mail. In Control Panel for Windows XP, type Mail in the Address box.
Note    The Mail icon appears after Outlook starts for the first time.
The title bar of the Mail Setup dialog box contains the name of the current profile. To select a different existing profile, click Show Profiles, select the profile name, and then click Properties.
    3.            Click Show Profiles. Choose Prompt for a profile to be used.
    4.            Click Add.
    5.            Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.
    6.            Start Outlook, and choose this new profile.
    7.             Try to send the emails in the new profile

  • Originals tab unable to see

    Dear Friends,
I have to implement DMS on ECC 6.0, as you all are aware that with ECC 6.0 2 tabs are coming as a functionality of PLM. I will apply the solution to remove  those tabs. But Originals tab I am unable to see. Where can I attach my documents in DIR.
    Regards,
    Punam Modi

    Hi Punam,
generally you can add originals also on the first tab ('Document Data') too. Here you should see the original area in transaction CV01N, CV02N or CV03N.
However the 'Original' tab should be visible in the standard of ERP2005 as there is no functionality how this could be removed.
So if you go to CV01N and create a new document info record, then you will see the original functionality buttons at the bottom of the 'Document Data' tab. Here you will also find the 'Create' button for originals which allows you to add a new original.
    Best regards,
    Christoph

  • Outlook 2010 - Opening attachments are very slow

Recently we have migrated windows XP, Office 2007 to Windows 7 Enterprise edition with Office 2010.
After migration found opening outlook 2010 attachements are very slow.
First time when we click the attachments the orange bar is running for a while in outlook then only the appropriate program getting opened.
Approx. it takes 25sec to open any attachments (word, excel, pdf ...even txt files)
Second time if we open same attachment then able to open immediately, if we leave the outlook for a while then we try to open the same attachement then again it takes 25sec to open.
At the moment when we click the attachment the file getting saved immediately to the outlook temp directory.
It look like only opening appropriate program getting delay for some reason.
I tried to disable all the Add-ins, but still same problem.
    Can some one please help?

  • Exchange 2010's "Online Archive" doesn't appear in Outlook 2010

    Hi,
I recently installed Exchange 2010, and all is working fine but the online archive feature.
I activated it for 2 of my users, it appears correctly in OWA, but doesn't appear in Outlook 2010 (Tech Preview).
What I am missing ? The only howtos I found state that you only have to setup Outlook, and the main mailbox + the online archive will appear... But I just have the main mailbox.
    If you've an idea... :)

I did some testing on this whole Personal Archive thing as even when using a new version and new license key the archive wasn’t showing in Outlook 2010 (yet was showing in OWA).
So I setup two machines (VMs) running Windows 7 Ultimate.
One was x64 and the other x86 but vanilla installs.
Installed Office 2010 Professional Plus download from TechNet (the iso image with both x86 and x64 versions on it).
Installed the lastest Office updates published via MS Update.
Used the same license key for both installs of Office.
    Exchange 2010 backend running SP1.
When the machines are not in a domain the archive doesn’t show in Outlook (both x86 and x64).
Pop the machines into the same AD domain as the Exchange server and hey presto the archive shows on both Outlook versions (x86 and x64).
Just to check things I removed them from the domain - archive folder missing again.
Re-added back to domain - archive folder shows.
It seems for the TechNet version anyhow the machine should be in a domain.
    I can’t comment on other versions/license keys.
    Regards
